Happy New Year!
We’re beginning 2015 with a visit to Ocala, FL to check in with Ziconic. For the past few months he’s been learning the basics at Mayberry Farm, and we can’t wait to see him show off his new skills.
If you have a specific question for the Mayberrys about Ziconic or his training, ask it below. We’ll bring along some of our favorites!

Wanted to share with everyone that I so fortunately got to visit with Ziconic recently in Florida. He is just absolutely beautiful. Just gorgeous and seems like such a happy horse. Just loved my visit with him. I see both Zenyatta and Tapit in him. But I just don’t know if he is going to be as tall as mom Z. Think only time will tell. I have not personally seen Tapit but from pictures sure see the resemblance. I was told that he is a biter too., but you know most Colts are. He was absolutely wonderful around me. As was told that he absolutely loves it there. And I can sure understand why. The Mayberry’s and staff I think are just wonderful with the horses.
I wanted to share something else kind of cute. Well, I saw some of the most beautiful yearling filly’s there that I have ever seen. Ziconic may not ever want to leave there, but I know the Filly’s will eventually leave too. There were two that I just absolutely fell in love with. Oh Gosh. They were just so beautiful. One was by Smart Strike and one was by the number one kitten Kitten’s Joy. And, she was the sweetest thing I have ever seen. Could have lost my mind. I was wondering if the one by Smart Strike was owned by Lane’s End, but I didn’t ask. They were just gorgeous. I am worried by the time Ziconic leaves he may be madly in love. I am sure going to follow these precious lives of Ziconic and the Filly’s.
Looking so forward to hearing from the team about their visit to Florida and our beautiful Ziconic
Thank You so much Ann, Jerry for sharing your beautiful horses with us. Dottie, John, All the Mayberry Team. Lane’s End Team Thank You So Much for all you do for us.

Know that you are not the only one to ever feel humiliation and pain. There is nothing new under the sun. Many have been through this valley and they understand what you are having to bear.
Never lose faith because you asked and did not receive. We can ask amiss, but more than likely we are edged out by a subtle something we did not recognize as danger.
As remote as it seems, this experience will pass. This time and place and reason cannot be stolen when the space is filled with praise, because praise is giving.
We always give the Great Spirit something. I think that is good.

Great news in N.M – the 1st reported foal, a filly, for Soldat arrived January 6th in Ruidoso! (Ruidoso is up the road from us on the mountain behind our house- the mt. I mention in my posts.) Her mom is Magnificent Melody. We’re so excited! She is so cute!

@Peggy (N)–You are one lucky girl! That must have been a visit good for the soul. I believe you are right about the biting. If memory serves me correctly, I recall reading or hearing that at one time Smarty Jones bit off part of a groom’s finger.
@shirlee in indy–Love the nickname Red Prince. I think I will start using that. So much easier to say than Ziconic (I have to think a moment before saying it). And besides, we have bestowed nicknames upon them all.
Hugs to all. I think we’re already ready for spring.

Dear Sheena,
Have to get ready for Pilates. Have a marvelous Saturday! All seems well in FB furbabyland. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear Kathy. At least it’s stopped raining here!hooray!Gosh, the horses are finishing tired in the races on heavy ground it’s hard to watch.Have you seen Finn?he’s staying with MM while he recovers from the OP!!He’s a cute little guy but not Marty!!Ray was wrapped up warm for the cold!Did you read about wittle Katy having a kind of seizure?Poor Mango was so frightened but mum Judy’s army training kicked in and she was calm and collected giving her CPR.Her blood work is good now and the vet thought she had eaten her food too quickly because seizures do not stop you breathing. She is such a tiny little dog!Such a wonderful video of a homeless dog on Joey. All those folk who just passed by!Have they never heard about the good Samaritan. It was so lovely to see him enjoy his bath and make friends.Animals are are much more forgiving than humans than humans.Miss Kitty’s boyfriend Ty has been through a lot at the vet and he’s going to Germany in the summer!Hope you have a great Saturday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.

Dear Max.Another Mullins star today at Punchestown today.Douvan wins in style with shorty on board.Very long race on now at Warwick and in heavy ground too.Moosie.s boy Sam has won with Hawkes Point.I find it very hard to see tired horses hit at the end of a grueling race though!Sheena.
Max
Duovan was really good in that race. It was not even an effort for him. He’s from France like Quevega. I recall a story from Mullins about Quevega when they brought her over to Ireland. Her breeder spoke no English and Mullins said that his French was not so great either. They still however managed to communicate and Mullins understood that Q was a very good racer and would improve with age. Alors, c’est absolument vrai!

One thing is certain, Willie reads and speaks horse.

I am so sorry to hear about Reilly and know how much you will miss him.It takes great strength and kindness to listen to our animals when they tell us it is time. Saying a prayer for you both.

Hi Zsters!
Well, having struggled with the bloody flu for about 10 days I’m getting back into the groove with something new from THE VAULT. Enjoy!

Hello Abilgail; I have begun to read your latest on the Vault here. Really great so far.
Hope you are feeling much better now. I hear the flu this year is really nasty.

Dear Abigail,
Great article! I love reading about these wonderful horses, past and present. Yes, the great anticipation persists! Good luck to all the novices — may they all stay healthy and sound.
Thanks for your fascinating work which is always so well-written!
Hugs and Love

Thank you both so much! I just couldn’t resist trying to situate Coz & Taco in a larger context because — I must admit — I fear that expectations can be cruel & especially in horse racing. We saw so much of it with Secretariat’s babies and the result is that several of them still haven’t been given their due, e.g. Terlingua was a superstar on the track — so much more than just Storm Cat’s momma!

How amazing you were able to visit Mayberry Farm and see Ziconic!! You were up close to him; exciting! I think they may have moved to a new farm and that it is still fairly close to the other, am I right? Mayberry’s and crew are wonderful.
Lucky, lucky YOU! Zi will no doubt fall in love with one of the lovely fillies and he may break one of their hearts when he leaves.
hugs, Sally B
Marshall; So sorry to read about your Reilly. I feel so badly for you. In time you will be able to think of all the wonderful memories Reilly and you shared. Wishing you better tomorrows. hugs, Sally B

The beautiful Lea won the Hal’s Hope for the second year in a row. Was so thrilled since I didn’t expect him to win off that long long layoff.

Shirlee, JB and Zfans,
Congrats to, Lea.
Great race for him, took care of business. Champ!
Max
Very good news. Bravo Lea!
Max
Shirlee. Just watched the video of that race. He really worked for that win. Really good. Saw that Uncle Johnny was fourth. Maybe your luck has changed and a new trend has started? Good luck to all chestnuts.
Ann NC
Where’s Lea gonna go? Guess he answered that question from the track announcer.
Good boy, Lea! Hope he enjoyed his bath with extra bubbles and smooth conditioner.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
It was a great race Shirley! He really hung in there for the win. Bravo!

Dear Max.Your french is far better than mine!I can’t remember when Quevega’s foal is due is it about April? We have been promised more wet weather next week and Nicky will not risk SS on heavy ground especially his first race after a long lay-off,Disappointing really but the New One is running at Haydock.Moosie’s neighbour.Sheena.
Max
Not exactly certain when the foal is due, but Quevega is expecting one with Beat Hollow. He was trained by Henry Cecil before being transferred to the US where he raced brilliantly for Bobby Frankel. He won the Arlington Million with Bobby.
I can understand Parisian French, any other dialects, and my eyes glaze over.

Dear Marshall,
I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Reilly. Having lost 2 cats and a dog in the last 11 months I know how painful it is to say goodbye. It did help me to be with all of them when they took their last breath. Although the tears you shed now are tears of sorrow, the tears you shed later on will be of joy for the fond memories that you had with Reilly. I believe that when each of our pets pass on, a piece of our heart goes with them, joined together, until we meet again at Rainbow Bridge. Hugs and lots of comfort sent your way.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Doreen:
So sorry for your losses. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Abigail.Hope you are feeling better.I loved your article for the vault especially seeing Hyperion’s Derby in 1933 the course never changes despite the passing of the years. So many great champion’s hooves have thundered around Tattenham Corner and down the straight.Loved the photos of Sadler’s Wells and Urban Sea too.We all have much to look forward to with the new “babies”Will they become champions who knows?I certainly hope so.Hugs Sheena.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Judy. Thanks for the article about Jamie.I,for one,am happy he’s to continue riding far too young to give up.Speedy is doing well and Nissy has had a lot of snow but it looks pretty!.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Little Cap Hercules Frank Boo and all the Sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Don’t forget those that are Ebby fans she is running at Santa Anita tomorrow in race 7. I hope John has found the key to her head games and she runs like she did in her first two races, big stride, just like Zenny. Gary Stevens is riding and he is known for his soft hands so hopefully she will run like we know she can.
Just Have to say, “GO PACKERS GO”, for the big game tomorrow.
My love and smooches to Mama Zen, CoZ, Zi, angel Princess, and my beloved Indy.
