Happy New Year!
We’re beginning 2015 with a visit to Ocala, FL to check in with Ziconic. For the past few months he’s been learning the basics at Mayberry Farm, and we can’t wait to see him show off his new skills.
If you have a specific question for the Mayberrys about Ziconic or his training, ask it below. We’ll bring along some of our favorites!

Every day is a day of worship to the spiritual of the Tsi la gi. Born close to the basics, he sees “God in the clouds and hears Him in the wind,” as AlexanderPope wrote. The innate greatness of it buoys him up and helps him walk in a whole new dimension.
Reasons to understand come in the simplest of things-the ice crystals touching his face are just another form of the same moisture that forms dew and snowflakes, raindrops, and even steam when under pressure. It is no mystery that the Threefold Being can be together and yet separate.
Simplicity-and yet, deep throbbing life that might not be seen with the naked eye, but is sensed all the same.
I think the Great Spirit is looking at all that is said here, and for that reason I am talking the truth.

I volunteered to take care of horses tomorrow, Friday, no one else had come forward, when wind chills will be to 30 below. Thank goodness for heat paks! I am so layered I almost can not bend over to load the hay in the large muk buckets! I am like a snow man in clothes.

Having been born in Wisconsin and raised around chicago ….i understand below zero very well…that said …on the noon news the reason for delaying the opening of Oaklawn was that the track is “frozen”…. the track officials stated that it would be like running on concrete to race…..very bad for the horses…good grief who knew(sarcastic)…but the owner has bred horses for years…it seems he cares…

Eblouissante is running January 11th in the Paseana Stakes at Santa Anita. She will be ridden by Gary Stevens. She ran last in her last two races. I don’t care if she wins or not; I just want the real Ebby to show up. Let’s hope John has finally figured out what’s been bugging her and he has a trick up his sleeve.
Max
Thanks for this info. I also hope that John has found the key to success for Ebby and that she does well.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
So glad to hear Ebby is going to run again. Glad it’s Gary riding her, he supposed to have very gentle hands. I think Ebbys horrifying experience in the gate is what has remained with her all this time, and I’m hopeful a nice experience with Gary will make the difference. Run safe beautiful girl.
SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)
Wonderful to know. I pray Ebbe will show her stuff and come away injury free! hugs,

Yes, I hope she runsssssss!!!!!!

I am glad she will have Gary on board. He is wise and knows how to figure out a horse. He, like Mike, is not “whip crazy.” Ebby is in good hands with John and Gary.

Saturday’s racing at Santa Anita has John Shirreffs with three entries, two in the same race. Race 4, post time 2:00 p.m. pst is 1 mile on turf. PP7 is Moss owned Kerri Belle, V Espinoza riding. PP10 is Fresh Feline, B Blanc riding. That race has a field of 14. Race 8, grade II San Pasqual S. post time 4:00 p.m. pst is 1 1/16 mile. PP8 is Mr. Commons B. Blanc riding. Race has a field of 11. A trophy will be presented to the winner. I’m wondering if the St. George Racing folks will be there this weekend since they own both Mr. Commons and Eblouissante. I forgot to mention above that Eby’s race is 1 1/16 mile.

Good luck to all!
I will be next to the TV!

Sheena,
Thanks for Hovis this morning. We are really cold here in Indy and have been since Tuesday. Snow covering which will be with us until April at this rate as we don’t have temps. above freezing in the forecast for what looks like weeks. Wind chills in the -20s and -30s. Hovis always brings joy to Fridays. Thanks again.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Sheena. Hovis certainly paints some interesting pictures of his poor Mum :-)
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
Thanks so much for the Hovis link. I needed something to make me smile. It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my dearly loved Reilly. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge this morning very peacefully at the vet’s office — he let me know that it was time. I am broken hearted, but there are no regrets. The meds gave him a bit more time, time that he enjoyed. He had a good breakfast this morning, a small walk along with Huey in the crisp clear January weather, and a couple of treats (ginger cookie bits). I miss him terribly. Huey and I will have a little ride later and then maybe another walk.
Thank you for your good wishes and for always remembering Reilly and Huey.
Many Hugs and Lots of Love and tears aplenty
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark

So sorry to hear about Reilly, most of us here on the blog can cry right along with you. He had a great life with you and you were with him at the end, that’s the best any of us could ask for. Hugs

When someone slings a dart, a comment that hurts, we want to hit back. The indignity of an attack for no reason is beyond our understanding.
Persons with no conscience sling arrows without thought of where they hit. Their desire is to hit something. What we have not known is that we can turn them back. We don’t have to accept everything that is said.
The quickest way to deflate the egotist is to see him as not important enough to take into account. His type of disease is contagious, and you should never expose yourself to such painful maladies.
You have compelled us to do that which makes us ashamed.

Dear Kathy. It’s good to have Hovis back! With all the rain we’re having his feathers will,no doubt, stay muddy.Wish I could send some of our mild weather to your Northern neighbours.Although wet it is almost springlike here today! The security services in France are very busy today. The gunmen from Wednesday have taken a hostage and the gunman who shot a policewoman yesterday has taken hostages in a Kosher supermarket.Seems to be connected to the other terrorists. It’s not going to end well!I had forgotten it was Zeus’ birthday will be a double celebration on the 18th with Zoey.Great news about Fubu he’s put on a 1lb in weight! His doc’s visit went well but momma isn’t very well.Have’nt had much time to visit the rest yet only Zoe I loved the message she left for Mango to watch the mail!Abby’s coach was left out in the rain!and she’s got hold of the ibone again. There’ll be trouble!!Have a great Friday.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Yes, I’ve really missed Hovis. Got a kick out of his silly hat. The deep freeze in on in about 40 states. I, of course, am unaffected here in the west. We’re all on the edge of our seat with everything coming down in France. So upsetting. Yes, I saw too late that it was Zeus’s birthday. Maybe I won’t be too late for Zoey’s! That’s wonderful that Fubu has gained 1 pound! Hope his mom feels better soon. Haven’t visited Mango yet. Abby has to be watched at all times, apparently. I wish you a wonderful Friday, too. Enjoy the weekend! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Guess who was Coz’s training partner at Mayberry. Texas Red! Seems Red was a big goof off and no one thought much about him. When he decided to wake up, he woke up with a bang.

Thank you, thank you and thank you for the article on the beautiful Lea. Claiborne has not said much about him except that he spent some time on the farm just being a horse. Hope he makes a good showing of himself but I don’t expect a win after that long layoff. So happy he belongs to loving caring owners and is with a “horse first” trainer.

Glad to hear that Gary Stevens will be aboard Eblouissante for her next race. I sense that she just doesn’t want to race anymore. But if anyone can work wonders with her, it would Gary. I think :”E” is quite capable, but her heart just isn’t in it. No doubt, she’ll be a good broodmare. Love Ya, and have a safe trip. All the BEST.

Hope all our friends and loved ones, human, feline, canine and equine stay safe and warm. I wasn’t ready for such cold weather so soon. Run safe Ebby an Mr. Commons. I have always loved Mr. Commons. Perhaps someone told Ebby about her sisters great life at Lanes End Farm and she’s tired of being cooped up in a stall all the time then having to run circles around in dirt. But Dear Ebby we all have rooted for you for so long and want you to have success. Not for us but for Dear John.
