Happy Monday!
We’re happy to share a few new photos of Coz in training. The folks at Mayberry Farm call him handsome, personable, and lovely to be around! He’s pictured here with his rider Ronaldo, who has been at Mayberry Farm since Zenyatta’s training. His kitty friend, Daisy, is shown perched at her regular spot above Coz’s stall.
When we recently asked for feedback and suggestions concerning the Zenyatta Shop, we received such a wonderful response. Thank you! It’s going to be a fun year with new product releases down the line.
Last but not least, at the bottom of this post you’ll find a special note from Ann Moss. She wanted to share a very sweet moment with all of you. Enjoy!
The last time I had seen Coz he was running around in his own paddock showing off for us and his buddies in the paddocks next to him. A very happy young man. This is the first time I had seen him since he started on his new life with Jeannie Mayberry, getting ready for what he was born to do… race. His racing career had begun. Jeannie had given him the same as his Mother: the last stall where he has perfect view of the whole barn and even the training track. Made me weep with joy (which I’ve been known to do smile) to see him standing there as he let me kiss his sweet nose, this big boy already grand and majestic receiving his saddle and his rider and proudly doing his lessons.
Later in the day standing in a gentle mist visiting with Zenny, I suddenly felt inclined to show her the video I had just taken earlier of her boy and knew how proud she would be of him, of how well he was doing with all his lessons and how Jeannie had said he was so smart and kind and how wonderfully he moves… She suddenly started her dance and tossing her head and turning her head to look at my iPhone! She totally knew she was watching her son Cozmic One and she was very proud. She especially liked the video of him getting his bath and she literally licked my phone! Reminding me yet again how I have to pick up my conversation with her. That she totally gets and understands All. Of course she and I have had many chats on the phone over the years and he’s always been around nosing in on our conversations, so it totally makes sense but still stunned me as well. So I wanted to share these constantly amazing Beings with YouS :) and say again Thanks! for all the Good Thoughts Well Being and Love YouS send to Them =)

Way too cool. I’m so glad that Z’s first born is doing so well. But I really didn’t expect anything else. There are special moments to be had with one’s horses. When they trust you and know you well enough that they put their head into your chest just to take in your scent and then give a big sigh. It’s like touching ET. They are smart beings and get to know you very well.
I look forward to seeing Coz later this year or maybe early next year on the track. Let us know how Z’s #2 is doing. I just love this colt too.

Very good description Diana. I had that pleasure when my mother owned and raced horses many years ago. I will never forget it.

I hope you have a wonderful happy birthday and many many more.

Happy birthday, and many, many more, to both Marshall in North Carolina and Brenda S in Fort Erie, Ontario!
Here are reprises of your birthday poems which I hope you will enjoy.
A Birthday Poem for Marshall in North Carolina
(February 9)
“Marshall”–
This time
It’s not the name of a man,
Nor is it a rank,
But the name of a lady fine
Who lives in North Carolin’
And whom we today thank
For her loyal participation
Here in this Zenny Nation.
Our dear Marshall
With us does share
Love for the incomparable mare.
She’s an ardent fan,
As are we all,
Of the great Z.
But please allow me
To recall
That she
Additionally
Is a big fan
Of mammography,
For that scan,
With subsequent surgery
Twelve years ago
To the day,
To her did give
The opportunity
To live
And enjoy longevity.
Dearest Marshall,
From your every post
We know
You’re grateful to the utmost
To still be alive!
We full-heartedly toast
That you did survive,
And we pray
You’ll continue to thrive!
We hope this birthday
For you will be
Another one on which you say
WHOOPEE!
A Birthday Poem for Brenda S in Fort Erie, Ontario
(February 9)
Outside it may be
A day cold and dreary,
’Specially this time of year,
But Brenda up north in Fort Erie
Is still of good cheer
If a new post from Z
She gets to see.
Dear Brenda never gets weary
Of following Queen Z
On her Internet Diary.
For our Brenda,
Checking in with Z
And the Z family
Is ever on the daily agenda—
For her it lends a
Festive tone
To any day
When she not only can read
Zenyatta’s news feed
But also can post in this special tome—
And in that she’s never alone!
Dear Brenda, it was such a treat
At the 2012 Breeders’ Cup
You finally in person to meet
And with you to sup—
Here’s hoping this year
We’ll get to repeat
Those days of celebration!
We Dumplings today you salute–
In your honor we’ll drink a libation
And send you best wishes to boot!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)

Happy Birthday Marshall and Brenda!
February 9 Cherokee Devotional
To some, power is domination, ruling anything defenseless. But that isn’t power, it is abuse, and abuse is cowardly. Abuse takes advantage where it can, always pretending to be the victim, but looking for the opportunity to overpower. Forget the idea that power is from the world. Whole worlds have been changed in minutes. Power that was bold and bragging can suddenly be a whimper. Empires have crashed and those that caused so much misery have deflated like balloons. Real power is not nigvnhdiha, which is understood by the Cherokee to be put on. It is from an inner source, characteristically calm, like a great river that flows smoothly but drives huge cities with energy. A single drop of water seems powerless and takes the way of least resistance, but joined to all the others, it has force. One person may seem inadequate to change anything, but united with others, can change anything.
The red man must leave the land of his youth and find a new home in the far west.

Love the pics of Coz – cannot wait for his first start! They grow up so fast and so thankful of the Mosses and Team Zenyatta for sharing the journey with us fans – which not a lot of people would take the time to do!
Congratulations to Moss and John Sheriffs for Blingo’s win in the San Antonio yesterday. He looks like a very attractive son of Artie Schiller (hope to see him back in the US some day with the likes of Blingo, My Conquestadory and We Miss Artie… cannot wait to see more kids by him! I hope Game on Dude came out of the race okay as that was a hot pace that he contested vs Blueskiesnrainbows.
I am in love with another filly! Gracer, daughter of Exchange Rate – Tina’s Goal, by El Corredor) who won the Dearly Precious Stakes for three year old fillies by 10 lengths. Not only does she look extremely talented but she is unique color wise. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/83278/gracer-long-gone-in-dearly-precious-stakes – she is a grey filly but she has these white spots on her that i have sine learned are called “Chubari spots”. One to watch and she is indeed on my watch list now!
Love the effort by Candy Boy in yesterday’s Lewis Stakes – he is going on my Derby watch along with Honor Code, Cairo Prince, Top Billing, California Chrome, Conquest Titan, Commissioner, Shared Belief, Indianapolis, Havana, Strong Mandate, Noble Moon, Vicar’s In Trouble (almost wish i was a better for he is 42-1 in the last Derby pool wagering), this list can go ON and ON lol. http://www.thedowneyprofile.com/more_racing_news/2014/02/04/kentucky-derby-trail-where-theyre-going-next.722658 pretty much everyone on that list. Candy Boy looks like a big handsome horse.
Keep up the progress Coz!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Very unique looking horse and quite a victory. Thanks for this heads up TH.
shirleeinindy
Tiz, Until I read your post and looked closely at the pic of Gracer, I thought those spots were snowflakes. Thanks for the info. I had never heard of Chubari spots.
Terry Crow
Being a son of Artie Schiller, I am surprised that Blingo has not been tried on the grass. Would expect to see an improved race by Game on Dude in his next start. He had been off for awhile. Not too many spots that such a horse can prep and that may have been what it was. We’ll see.
Rosemary McCauley
Terry – I hope Dude does give us the answer to how he’s feeling as a 7-year-old. I’m looking forward to seeing him next time.
Tiz Herself
I read somewhere that Big Brown’s spot on his shoulder was referred to as his “go or power button” lol… if that’s the case Gracer’s got plenty of “go buttons” lol… I cannot wait to see more of her, I have been following her more on Three Chimneys page and there was a photo of her working out before her victory this weekend… I had to take a second and a third look…
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151870366426050&set=a.75265196049.87303.62777301049&type=1&theater this is from their Facebook site.
I don’t always know alot about Beyer speeds, but according to Three Chimneys, Gracer ran a 98 beyer which is faster than any three year old filly in North America to date and one point slower than the boys!

Dear Kathy Wise words Power corrupts. Lovely video of Ray trying to get Hawley to play with him they are a SUPER family! Gosh Boo has already reached 9.6 million is well on his way to the magic 10!Like Zoe’s Mom I am not watching the Winter Olympics because of the officials at Sochi slaughtering the feral dogs and cats! There hasn’t been a word said over here about it and we are meant to be an animal loving nation!!Poor Marty is in prison and he had to have a baff! But he looked to be enjoying his cheese and crackers I’d keep an eye on that cat though!Have a lovely Sabbath Hugs to You, Kisses for the Puppy Pack Sheena

Sheena. The Tullow Tank ran second at Leopardstown today to Vautour who did all the leading with Ruby. The Tank did not jump as well as usual, and 2 miles may be too short for him. Vautour races for the same colors as Ms Power. Another win for Mullins.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I’m all ready for church. I’ll check on all the FB furbabies when I get back home. Boo has to be one of FB’s highest numbers. Incredible fame. That’s horrible about the feral dogs and cats in Sochi. I haven’t been watching either, but I do get medal highlights on the news. I saw the Marty in prison pic. SO CUTE! That rat has a pretty cushy life. Primo eats plus baths. I agree with keeping an eye on that cat! lol. A lovely Sabbath to you. Hugs from me, kisses from The Pack. Kathy.

Barbara-Pleased that you are reading A Wild Ride. Hope that this isn’t a spoiler, but the guy who was being touted as something of a hero at the beginning of the book was subsequently convicted of perjury after the book was published. Seems that his absence during the crucial time was not an accident. The more research I did into the death of Alydar, the more shocked I became. J. T. Lundy and his cronies deserve to burn in hell.

JudyB. Very interesting. As the video says, there is no guarantee that Frankel’s progeny can repeat his own success on the track. Only time will tell.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
So true; but oh, the possibilities. Wish the powers that be would make a photo of the little guy available. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. The law of averages dictates that few horses will ever come close to the levels reached by Frankel and Z. These horses are extraordinary, and no one can really explain definitively how it happens. Another exceptional horse, Secretariat, could not reproduce himself or any offspring who could even rival him. He has however done rather well as a broodmare sire. Breeding a mare to an unproven stallion like Frankel is always a big gamble especially in view of his fee, as the video said. It is however the thing of which dreams are made.
Terry Crow
If breeding was as easy as matching the best with the best, there would be no claimers. A risky and expensive business, indeed.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max and TC GP:
Just proves the point, “Even when you know, you never know”.
The part that concerns me the most is what happens to all the foals that are born that don’t develop into racing prospects. That’s the problem with breeding so many Beautiful Jewels to find that one Diamond. Hugs, JB

Ann NC, I found Fox Sports 1 on my TV so got to watch the race. What a thrill! He is such a beauty. When the sun hit that chestnut coat he reminded me of Ferdinand who I saw while he was at Claiborne many years ago. It is such fun to follow a horse as I have been doing with him and MMM for years. As I said before I first saw Lea at Churchill in May of 2013.

Now that the floods have reached the Thames Valley everyone is jumping into action, what about the “country bumpkins” in the West Country they waited weeks for help.Good win for Groupie Doll Mandy Pope in tears.Hugs Sheena

Sheena. Have just read that the Bristol croc goes by the name of Chris. He’s staying in the Avon. Apparently some Aussie croc expert says that crocs could live in British waters however cold. You might have another Nessie. Chris’ twitter fans are climbing. From what I’ve read, Chris is a cheeky sort of croc. Good sense of humor. Don’t go in the water! Neigh!

I wish all those that have had birthdays many more happy ones.
I have been away being so involved lately with our Horse Sanctuary, the bitter cold, Jo’s laminitis which has not improved very much, the loss of some volunteers and required extra coverage, and now at the last meeting told that Cedar Community will be ending the program in July of 2015. I imagine they are hoping that Fancy, who will be 34 in 2014, Frito who will be 32 will pass during this next year and a half and they will not accept any more horses that otherwise would be uthenized.
They made it clear that they are ending the program. The economy has had them focus totally on the human elderly at their centers.
I feel God created all; they did make a commitment 4 years ago and now say we have not been self-sufficient. I never thought we needed to be self-sufficient only that it would be self sufficient as a “volunteer program” and we should attempt fundraisers etc.
Never the less, I am rather down even though I know I can care for the horses for the next year and a half before???? of them???
I think I would walk away from the program right now, but I love the horses too much and it is not their fault at decisions reached.
Zenyatta, you and the Zsters are my rock I can come to and spill all my troubles once in awhile. hugs, Sally B
Zenyatta; You will always be No 1 in my heart

Dear Sally B.,
How upsetting this is. So sorry about this bad news. I do hope something good happens before 2015 to turn things around for the horses and for those who care so much for these beautiful souls.
Poor Jo — I was hoping the laminitis would improve more quickly. Thoughts and prayers continue for her and for the Sanctuary residents ,as well as those who work there.
All the Best and Lots of Hugs

Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Thank you Marshall and others. Jo is not responding as we had hoped, but now the farrier as well as our leader believes there must be an underlying reason perhaps Cushings disease. We always have to wait for approval from the go between person with Cedar Community. We have been wanting a strictly horse vet instead of the general vet. We finally got the okay and I am waiting to hear if Dr. Tani, a highly regarded strictly horse vet (female, I met her once with Sir)can make it out to the barn today as the two horse volunteer leaders asked if I’d go out there with the farrier to be with the vet.
hugs to all, Sally B
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Sally B.,
It is good that they have consented to having a horse vet check on Jo. I hope Dr. Tani can figure out how to help her.
Hugs
shirleeinindy
Sally, Bless you and all the volunteers. Perhaps something even better is meant for you all and the horses. Prayers.
Terry Crow
Sally-If an entity was required to be self sufficient Washington would have gone out of business years ago. If the government can spend millions of dollars to study catfish, which was in the recently enacted farm bill, why not some funding for sanctuaries such as yours? If the government can send billions in foreign aid, why not some horse money? If it wasn’t for the horse, there would be no America as we know it. I, for one, am getting tired of misplaced priorities. The money that is spent on flying the president back and forth just so he can engage in fundraisers is getting to be a bit much when one hears about things like this.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Terry, I agree 100%. AMEN.

Dear Sally:
So sorry to hear this news. I hope the administrators reconsider and at least try some means of fund raising before they close the rescue.
You are a Guardian Angel to these horses and God Bless you for all you do. Love and Hugs, JB
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Dear Judy; There are more issues than just us having to be self-sufficient. The barn and property Cedar Community owns needs some needed expensive repairs and a couple areas topographically changed for the safety of the horses and us volunteers as well. I believe they do not wish to address these issues now and no longer wish to have the liability with us volunteers. They should never have committed to having a horse sanctuary and then decide against having one. It is a sad situation; at least the horses do not know this.
hugs, Sally B

Dear Sally:
I see now that there are issues here that may be insurmountable. I hope that new places can be found for all of the horses and I can relate to your feelings and sadness as the closing date approaches.
I know you will give all of the horses your best care and love in the time remaining. There’s always a chance that something good will happen from now to July. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Love and Hugs, JB
