Happy Friday!
Alys recently spent some time with both Zenyatta and her colt. She sent us these photos of Zenyatta getting some attention in her stall and the yearlings enjoying winter weather out in the paddock.
We are also proud that Bloodhorse has named the birth of Zenyatta’s colt the most popular story of 2012. You can see the whole “2012 in Review” newsletter by clicking this link.

The first reported foal by three-time Eclipse Award Winner Gio Ponti was born Jan. 11 at Huntington Stud Farm in Kleinburg, Ontario.
Kissin Party, a stakes placed daughter of Kissin Kris, produced the chestnut colt by Gio Ponti.

Race favourite Assail who was a $3.60 chance this morning has been a late scratching for today’s Magic Millions Classic at Gold Coast racecourse. Assail has been taken out on stewards advise due to a foot abscess. With the scratching as expected the whole market has changed with Clevadude the outright $3.40 favourite ahead of Missy Long Stockings at $4.60 . View the full Magic Millions Classic market.

Dear Lanes End and Team Z,
Love the photos of Zenny and 12 Z and his yearling pals. My oh my he is one already !!!
She looks as loving as ever enjoying her grooming and maybe looking for a carrot
or peppermint. No mints for now Zenny, you are weight watching.
Loved to see the honor Lanes End received from Bloodhorse on
Zenny’s first foaling. Lanes End you are such a very special place and we are so
very lucky that you keep us in Zenny’s and 12 Z’s life.
Thanks so much for all of the great updates, can’t wait to see 13 Z, a grey filly, hopefully !!!!

Great pictures. I could stare at Zenyatta all day long and
12Z Wow!. I love his chestnut buddy with that white blaze.
In the last picture it looks like they were caught planning something
and decided to act like nothing is going on. So cute!
Greta job Alys with the pictures as usual.

I normally don’t post personal issues but, this needs to be posted. My sister has been sick for about 6 years. Doctor after Doctor, Er room after Er room, no one has figured out what her issue is. Pumped her full of meds and she’s still getting sick. Now, she has another Doctor that might think it’s her gull bladder. Why didn’t they find that in the first blood test? So, her appointment is next week and we’ll go from there. On top of that, she is scheduled for arm surgery in March due to carpal tunnel. In which, she’ll have a bone removed and another shaved. What is wrong with Doctors today?? Six years of her suffering, always in pain and unable to enjoy her life. If it turns out that it is indeed her gull bladder, you better believe, there will be a major law suit. Please, Dumplings, keep my sister in your prayers and that the new Dr can figure this out so that she doesn’t have to be in pain anymore. Thank you! Heid

Dear Heidi,
Thought and prayers to you and your sister. This type of medical situation is
so very difficult to understand and deal with. There are just times when a
medical diagnosis is not clear and things evolve over time. Hope things
work out well for her and everything clears up. She has really been through a lot.

Dear Heidi,
Renew Our Minds, Bodies and Souls
Lord, we come before you today in need of your healing hand. In you all things are possible. Hold my heart within yours, and renew my mind, body, and soul.
You gave us life, and you also give us the gift of infinite joy. Give us the strength to move forward on the path toward better health, and give us the wisdom to identify those you’ve placed around us to help us get better.
Amen.
HeidiK Vallejo,Ca
Sign, thank you for the prayer. I will forward or rather have my sister say it with me on the phone. She’s just so miserable and talking to her and listening to her just tears my heart apart. I’m crying as I’m writing this too because, that prayer means so much and is so touching. I just want her to be pain free for once.
I have decided to be by her side as much as possible to support her. I know that will mean a great deal to her. And, possibly by being there for her Dr. apts, they’ll get more information from me that can be useful?
Trina Nagele in SoCal
You’ll both be in our prayers, Heidi. I’m glad you will be going with your sister to her appointments. It will be very helpful to her emotionally, and you can ask the doctors questions in addition to helping to answer theirs. Also, you can take notes–it is so hard to absorb in the moment and later remember what the doctors are saying without notes, and you will be in a better position to do the notetaking than your sister. We wish you both all the best and will look for updates here.

While I was writing, I was calling my Mom. She brought up a point that, I didn’t think about and that is: her Heart! My father died of Sarcodosis (sp) which attacked his liver and caused heart disease. Or, something like that. During that time, they were called “fatty tumors” which were not cancer but were ugly. My sister and I both have “fatty tumors” and as we both get older, the more appear. My Doctor has tested and x-r’d my chest to make sure that it wasn’t Sarcodosis that I had. So, I don’t know if this could be of any help to my sister’s doctor or not. I don’t know what History they have but, there’s been a lot of History that they can research.
History: Heart disease, liver disease, high blood pressure etc…
I miss spoke. SCD we’ll call it: as I understand: cells that attack one another and some can portray cancer cells and attack any organ at any time.? I’ve had a conversation with my Dr about it and, I’m still confused about it.
Sign: I called my sister and asked her to pray with me. Thank You! After we said the prayer together I said: I have friends in low places! She got a chuckle when I told her who they were!! I said: ” Dumpling Hood!”..
I’ll try and keep everyone up to date with this situation.

Sign, there was really no need for you to comment that this was “reposted info,” meaning that YOU had posted the info earlier. You seem to love to engage in oneupmanship, but I find it quite rude and wish that in the future you would take your earlier post about “courtesy” to heart. I’m just sayin’…

In psychological terms, Kelly defined hostility as the wilful refusal to accept evidence that one’s perceptions of the world are wrong. Instead of reconsidering, the hostile person attempts to force or coerce the world to fit their view, even if this is a forlorn hope, and however harmful the cost.

The Rescuer not only depends on her role to give her a sense of self, but she also depends on it to bridge the gap between self and others. In other words she needs the Rescuer role just as much, probably more, than the rescued needs rescuing. In fact, the Rescuer tends to feel as if her self-esteem has taken a big hit when there is a lag-time between rescues. Though on the one hand she might be relieved that she’s not having to take care of every little thing for the rescued during that lag-time; on the other hand, she’s wondering what she’s doing here if it isn’t to rescue someone else. There’s a deep unsettling underground tremor that tells her that something is really wrong with this picture. So, without really paying much attention to it, she launches herself into another search for the next victim in need of rescue.

DAILY RACING FORUM: BRAD FREE ON GOLDENCENTS AND KEVIN KRIGGER
(So very glad this talented rider has gotten this wonderful chance to ride a
potential derby mount )
01/10/2013 2:03PM
Brad Free: Goldencents, Krigger could be this year’s version of I’ll Have Another, Gutierrez
By Brad Free
Jockey Kevin Krigger hopes that the Doug O’Neill-trained Goldencents can take him to the Kentucky Derby.
Jockey Kevin Krigger could have stayed in Northern California and ridden a lot more winners than he rode the past year in Southern California. None of those Golden Gate winners would have put the 29-year-old rider on a trail to the Kentucky Derby.
It took Krigger less than one year in Southern California to find a dream mount – four rides on Goldencents produced three wins, including last weekend’s Grade 3 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita. If Goldencents makes it, Krigger will try to win the Kentucky Derby with his first Derby mount.
“When you get a Derby mount for the first time, you have to capitalize every moment, because you don’t know when the next time is coming,” Krigger said this week at Santa Anita, where he was busy working horses for Goldencents’s trainer Doug O’Neill.
It is habit for Krigger – showing up early and working hard.
“He’s here every morning at 5:30,” O’Neill said. “There are a lot of riders here with a good work ethic. Kevin’s is as good as any.”
Work ethic is how Krigger got the mount on Goldencents in the first place. He showed up one morning last summer to work an unraced 2-year-old for O’Neill and was thrilled.
“This might be one of the best horses I’ve been on,” Krigger said.
O’Neill also liked the chemistry he saw between Krigger and Goldencents.
“He was a kid with talent who got along with a really good horse,” O’Neill said and suggested Krigger and agent Tom Knust contact the majority owner to express interesting in riding the colt first out.

Thanks for this post, Sign. Good luck, Kevin Krigger and Goldencents–hope you make it to the Derby!

Dear Alys,
Thanks you so much for all of the great photos of Z and her young man 12 Z.
Bet you had fun spending time with her and with those “crazy” yearlings, always
playing and into a little mischief. She looks so gorgeous and happy as a broodmare

there puts the horse first.

@Heidi K.– of COURSE you can bring your problems here. That’s what Dumplinghood is all about– caring for and supporting each other! It is so amazing that in this day and time, doctors can work miracles in some areas but not in others. I think we can all put ourselves in your place and empathize with your (and your sister’s) frustration. Praying that you will get correct answers to correct questions. Please do keep us informed. Big hugs.
@sign–thanks for the appropriate prayer.
