Happy Thursday!
Today we have a few new photos from Lane’s End. Alys has been spending time with Zenyatta and 12Z, capturing aspects of their daily routines. She sent us these two videos, each featuring a 360 degree view of Lane’s End!

12 Z is a little stinker……trying to get a nip in here and there. Clever little boy. The queen looks so happy. Count down to the new little tap dancer in March or April.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
12 Z is already a nipping stallion, remember from his early foal video, Charles
mentioned that he was nipping and causing bruises on everyone.
That boy is going to be something !!!
Kathleen
My stallions learned very young that nipping was bad manners. I never had a stallion that bit

Dear Lane’s End: Many thanks for the latest photos/videos. Wonderful. Safe and Happy Christmas to all the team. Hugs, KathyR.

Paynter And The People Who Powered Him Up
by Ryan Patterson| HorseRacingNation.com 12/19/2012 8:44 AM
Let your voice be heard! Vote for Paynter to win the 2012 Secretariat Vox Populi Award!
After Bodemeister burst onto the scene with a terrific maiden win in which he flexed his muscles en route to a 9 ¼ romp, I sent a congratulatory text message to owner Justin Zayat. He replied thanking me, but informed that if I thought Bodemeister was good, I should wait until I see the Awesome Again colt he had in the barn waiting to debut.
The first thought in my mind? Yea, right; if you have one better than Bodemeister then you might have the best horse in the country.
It turns out that Awesome Again colt was the vaunted Paynter and regardless of how unbelievable Justin’s assessment sounded out the time, it turned out to be true.

Kentucky Derby 2013: Top 20
Pete Denk The Locksmith Report 20 Dec 2012 11:39 AM
This will be the first of six (monthly) editions of my top 20 contenders
for the 2013 Kentucky Derby.
Future lists will be ordered/numbered. It’s too early to split hairs.
These horses need to do a lot of developing between now and May 4, 2013.

Thanks to Lanes’s End and Alys for the great pictures and videos.
12Z is such a handsome handful for sure.
If I were a young horse, I would want a stall just like his.
Big with lots of light coming in.

How did Ebby do in her last race?
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Pam:
Ebby was scratched from the race on 12/15/12. She bumped and bruised herself as the horses were leaving their stalls to be saddled, but was nothing major, thank goodness. Don’t know if she is entered this Saturday at Betfair Hollywood Park. Will check the entries on Equibase.com. Hugs, JB
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
She was scratched. She bumped her hip in the saddling area and gave herself a scrape. She’ll be fine, but she won’t make her next start until Santa Anita.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Laura J.:
Thanks for sharing this info. There was some speculation that she might race sooner. The good news is she’s sound and well. Hugs, JB

Dear Laura J.:
Just realized that the 16th was the closing day of racing at Betfair Hollywood Park. Santa Anita opens on the 26th, so JS is probably looking for a good spot there for Ebby’s next race as you said. Hugs, JB

Hollywood Park: Eblouissante scratched from second start
By Steve Andersen
Emiy Shields
Eblouissante struck a stall door in the backstretch receiving barn.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Eblouissante, the 3-year-old half-sister to 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, was scratched from an optional claimer at Betfair Hollywood Park on Saturday after suffering an injury to her hip when she struck a stall door in the backstretch receiving barn.
The incident occurred about 30 minutes before Saturday’s fourth race, and her injury was considered minor by trainer John Shirreffs.
“She took some hide off,” he said. “It’s like a burn mark.”
Shirreffs said the decision to withdraw Eblouissante was made after “she took a couple of bad steps” following the incident.
Horses are kept in the receiving barn for approximately 15 minutes before being walked to the paddock.
Tim Grande, the official veterinarian who oversees the receiving barn, telephoned the stewards at 1:30 p.m., 32 minutes to post, to advise them to withdraw Eblouissante.
“It’s unfortunate,” Shirreffs said. “Mr. Kronfeld flew out from New York.”
Eblouissante is owned by breeder Eric Kronfeld. The filly won her debut in a maiden race over 1 1/16 miles on Nov. 16, leading to heightened interest in Saturday’s race, her first start against winners.
Saturday’s race would have been five years to the day since Zenyatta made the second start of her career at Hollywood Park. Zenyatta won her first 19 races before finishing second to Blame in the Breeders’ Cup Classic in her final start in the fall of 2010.

Thanks soooo much for sharing the great videos 12Z is really growing into quite the handsome colt.

It was great seeing the two of them. Little Man Z will be a year old soon …doesn’t seem possible. Soon Z will be teaching another baby the ropes and showing us what a great mother she is. I admire Mr. and Mrs. Moss for their dedication to Z and making sure they stay active in her life as well as Little Man Z. Not many would fly across country to see their mares. Bravo….to them!

Arc heroine Danedream retired to stud
By David Conolly-Smith 10:05AM 21 DEC 2012
STAR German filly Danedream, winner of the 2011 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and this year’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, has been retired.
Trainer Peter Schiergen, currently on holiday in Florida with his family, confirmed her retirement in an interview published Friday on the website Galopp-Online.
It had been hoped Danedream could make up for missing this year’s Arc, due to swamp fever in her Cologne training base, by running in the Dubai Sheema Classic this coming March, but owner Teruya Yoshida has now decided against this.

Dear Zenny Fans, Dumplings, and All,
Do not look forward to what may happen
tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares
for us today will take care of us tomorrow and every day.
Either He will shield us from suffering,
or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace, then. Put aside all anxious thoughts and
imaginations, and say continually: “The Lord is our strength
and our shield. Our hearts have trusted in Him and we are helped.
He is not only with us, but in us, and us in Him.”
Amen
THANKS SO MUCH TO LANES END, TEAM Z FOR KEEPING US IN

BROUGHT ALL OF US TOGETHER.
Happy Holidays to all and a blessed day.

Dear Sign: Another wonderful prayer to start the day – thanks so much. And couldn’t agree with you more in thanking Lane’s End and Team Z – it’s been a great blessing to have this site, and “meet” such lovely caring people. We’re about to go into another weekend of racing, so I’m also praying for a safe journey to the equine athletes. Hugs, KathyR.

PAULICK REPORT; RACING DAY PRACTICE USING STEROIDS TO CHANGE
“The goal in bringing these experts together was to develop scientifically-based and enforceable recommendations for the regulation of corticosteroids,” said RMTC Chairman Dr. Robert Lewis. “The group’s recommendations allow for practitioners to use corticosteroids where medically indicated for treatment of the horse and remove the pressure of treatment based upon whether a horse is entered to race.”

PAULICK REPORT LINK:
Acutually, steroid withdrawl times before racing to change.

Signofthetimes
This new steroid withdrawl is regimen is a great idea, steroids cause tissues,
Muscles and ligaments to thin and can lead to breakdowns.
Work well for inflammation with rest not extreme work of racing !!!
