Farriery: In my wanderings, I stumbled across a bunch of little videos on farriery, showing how a farrier does what he does on horses hooves, with a hoof stand. It’s educational, just how much is involved. There is even a demo of the dental version. The video links are all in a column on the left side of this link: http://www.hoofjack.com/v/vspfiles/home.asp

Clevadude on target for Magic Millions Classic 2013
Posted by: AAP Filled in: Australian Horse Racing | 29/12/2012 at 2:30pm
Clevadude sent out a warning to his rivals in next month’s Magic Millions Classic when he strolled home at Moonee Valley to keep an unbeaten record on Saturday.
Making it two wins from as many starts, the two-year-old led from the start in the Sportingbet Plate (1000m) and was never threatened
Jockey Craig Newitt eased the $1.55 favourite home by 4-1/2 lengths from The Yowie ($3.80) with Gold Hoffa ($17) third in a four-horse race.
In revised Classic markets after two-year-old races in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday, Clevadude shared favouritism for the January 12 Gold Coast race with the filly Assail at $3.80.
When prompted, veteran trainer Rick Hore-Lacy said Clevadude had already shown he had the potential to rank with his former stars, Blue Diamond winner Redoute’s Choice and Golden Slipper hero Canny Lad.
“He could be up there with them,” Hore-Lacy said. “He’s got to win a Blue Diamond or a Golden Slipper before you can make that remark – but he just makes them look sick, doesn’t he.”
Frustratingly, Hore-Lacy had to geld Clevadude.
“He struck out one day and nearly got me and he reared up going on the walker and took a big chip off his shin,” he said.
“When he did that I just thought he’d gone to the point of no return, he was just too big, too bully, too heavy and too colty.
“I was crying too, because I thought he would be a good horse.”
A $225,000 purchase at the Magic Millions second sale, Hore-Lacy said he was confident of Clevadude measuring up in the Magic Millions.
“There’ll be plenty of opposition but this bloke will take some beating, particularly if he’s lucky enough to draw a gate,” he said.
Newitt said Clevadude would not have such an easy run in the Magic Millions, but was quick to emphasise his untapped power.
“He’s got a huge cruising speed and the whole way he was just chopping and changing waiting for something to race him,” Newitt said.
“I just let him keep rolling because up there the pressure’s going to be on the whole way.
“But he went to the line with a fair bit in reserve because I’m sure once he’s challenged he’s got plenty more to give.”

Great article in the DRF today on Northern Dancer’s Legacy. Hugs, JB

Max
JudyB. Thanks for this. I noticed that Northern Dancer is in 12Z’s pedigree from Cara Rafaela, Bernie’s mother. Nearctic, Northern Dancer’s sire, appears twice. He’s the foal who was bred in England and later born in Canada after his mother, Lady Angela, crossed the Atlantic to travel to her new home.
It was also interesting to read in the article that Lisa Danielle might be broodmare of the year. She certainly deserves the title. I also liked the references to AP and Big D.

Dear Keta: Bensley will be sacking his trainer – Hoss Amor started as favourite, dropped to second last and stayed there for most of the race, finally running home at fifth. Oh well, there’s always next time. Incidentally, Rick Hore-Lacy is known as a great pick of a stallion – he trained (and was part owner) of Redoute’s Choice, and was also involved with Canny Lad. So no wonder he’s cranky at having to geld Clevadude. Rick has a habit of going to the sales with not enough cash to purchase a horse, so is very good at begging from relatives, etc. He raced a lovely colt called Toorak Toff, who was a roarer, had surgery, but never really came back, so is now at stud. Cheers. KathyR.

I love your sharing your insider info from Down Under.

So Hoss will not be happy with horse Hoss; performance.
Guess he doesn’t like the fact that it does take time for some to develop.

Dear Keta: Maybe Bensley shouldn’t take a holiday when he has a horse running: word is that you don’t bet on a Waterhouse runner when Gai is off in the States skiing! Wishing you a Wonderful New Year, and thanks so much for all your information over the (nearly) past year. Hugs, KathyR.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and well wishes when I posted about my husband. He moved to the rehabilitation hospital on Thursday and will be doing more therapies to get his strength back. I’m sure all your prayers and good wishes have helped and I sincerely appreciate it. Sounds like Barbara and Carol have experience dealing with husbands with illnesses like this. Guys can be so stubborn in admitting they need the help sometimes, but I think my husband learned with this episode of COPD that he needs to get the help sooner. Any way, before I ramble on and on again, thank you all so much for your kindnesses.
Power Up Paynter! So sorry to hear about Mr. Zayat on the ice and having to miss Paynter’s getting back to training. Was excited to see a notice that Dime Piece won the race yesterday, but naturally I am way behind on all my horse stuff – Zenyatta’s site is the only one I’m taking the time to check into because I know it will always uplift my spirits.
You are all dear. Thank you.

Dear Celeste,
So very glad to hear your husband is progressing and has moved into rehabilitation.
You are absolutely right on about men and stubborness, it is very hard to find one
that is not and is compliant. So KUDO’s to you for getting him to the hospital,
attending to him with your family and getting him through the crisis. It is sooo
hard for the folks with respiratory problems to not have difficulty in the winter.
Met a lung transplant patient yesterday, who had a horrible fungal infection, waited
3 weeks (while she was helping her brother with his dying wife) and became very ill and went to the hospital. The outcome was very good, she looks great and did learn
to got to the doctor sooner.
HAVE A GREAT DAY WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS, HUGS TO YOUR HUBBY.

Hi all, there is a story I feel I need to share with you. You know I have been volunteering for Cedar Valley Horse Sanctuary, a division of Cedar Community taking care of just four older very fine horses that otherwise would have had their demise.
A women named Susan Kolb, a pastor for the Cedar Community was instrumental in the start of her dream and love of the horse. I came aboard in late June and at one of the meetings soon learned from a head person, that Susan Kolb had ovarian cancer. It was not diagnosed, though they had looked for the cancer, and she battled for a year of treatments. I met her several times earlier, she had hugged me as a new volunteer, and was such a gracious wonderful person. When I learned she was now in hospice, I sent her an email telling her how warm hearted she has been and that I would promise to help care for the horses she loved. I will keep my promise. I just learned that Susan Kolb has passed, on her way to whom she has served in devotion and love. I am very saddened by this. She was only in her later 40’s early 50’s I think and had such a heart of gold.
I am glad you are here, even though many times I am not, but in my heart I am. God bless you all and I wish you a healthy, blessed Happy New Year. hugs, Sally
