Happy Friday!
We’re kicking off the weekend with new photos from Alys! As you can see, Zenyatta and her colt have been out enjoying the lush spring grass at Lane’s End. We’re sure they’re also anticipating our visit (and lots of peppermints)!
Our trip to Lane’s End begins early next week. If you’re eager to keep up with us while we’re at the farm, follow us on Instagram (TeamZenyatta) and Twitter for live updates.
Enjoy!

such a big colt…/such a mature colt already at .. 18 days…i beleive he will be a beautiful red roan……

Miss Z, yet another handsome baby. You enjoy yourself and we will enjoy seeing him running about and being in the sun. :)
Sandi Walters
What a gorgeous colt! He seems to have it all. Any word if Zenyattas will be bred for next year?
Rose Edwards(Quarterhossgal)
So happy to see Queen Z out in pasture with Z13. What a handsome colt, his rear end looks like a quarter horse!! Zenny….you certainly have handsome sons. Cozmic One is really maturing, he looks great. Who is the stallion for Z14? Thanks for sharing such great pictures.
Zenyen
I was responding to a comment a couple of pages back but wanted to expand.
The comment asked about was 13Z bigger than Coz at the same age…
I think 13Z is more closely coupled, so there is strong definition in his hip and shoulder that gives him a very muscular appearance. I believe he did weigh more at birth that Coz so he’s probably got some physical size on Coz comparing them at the same age.
IMHO the biggest difference I see in them is their attitude. The pictures we saw of Coz he was an adorable foal, full of foal antics and attitude (usually pestering Mom!) There is a dignity and ‘Old Soul’ regal bearing that 13Z has that commands respect.
Yes, he is beside his mother the Queen but he catches the eye all on his own. Its the type of charisma you always hear the broodmare managers saying the great ones had when they were first foaled.
That last picture in particular. He’s a 3 week old baby, yet his stance and the look in his eye is like “Don’t worry Mom, I’ve got your back.”

I love your last sentence….confidence …..

Dear Zenyen:
Thanks for another informative post. Yes, I think Prince 2 was 10 lbs. heavier at birth than Coz.
I will say, though, Z really stamps her babies so far. They are just gorgeous. This little guy does have a presence and commands attention. Love Z and her boys. Hugs, JB

Zenyen,
Thank you for your beautiful words.
This fellow,Z13 brings tears to my eyes.
He shines in every photo.
There have been some spectacular looking foals born this season but the Z13 just takes the cake!
We are very blessed that Ann and Jerry Moss have shared him w/ us.
Marshall (NC broad)
Ann,
I agree. 13Z IS quite smashing, isn’t he? I think he takes the cake, too — and what a cute little bit of cheesecake he is! Hugs
Roberta
I have to say, from the very first pictures, I thought, he has a special look about him. With these new pictures, there is no doubt that he has something special about him; he holds his head so high, and even though he loves his mother and wants to be near her, he has an air of independence and confidence about him, that I have never seen in such a young one. I just turned 71, and pray I live long enough to see him run in the big races; I know he is SPECIAL!! A PLEA TO THE MOSSES, PLEASE KEEP HIM, AND CHERISH HIM LIKE YOU DID ZENYATTA, HE WILL REWARD YOU!!! How do others feel?

I am with you…..he just “fits” perfectly
maureen phi-llips
Amen to that. Totally agree with you. Have a great night.

I just can’t believe the change in him in less than 3 weeks! I love all the pictures, but in those beside Mom, they are in perfect choreography together.
Selfishly, I hope he exhibits the joy of life of C.O. (remember the snorting?–too cute!)
Good night, sweet Z. We are so enjoying all you have given us.

Fantastic Pictures…all worthy of framing!! They both look so happy. Zenyen..I agree, he is quite different from Cos….Perhaps more Tapit (Pulpit/AP Indy) traits at this early age. I would expect him to be a little larger at birth, Cos was Z’s first foal. When Cos was still a little man…running and squeeeeeeling, I think he was telling the world…”watch out I’m here”. Who know’s what the future holds…but right now…The Queen has two incredible colts to be proud of and wonderful owners and a team who will ensure they are well cared for.

Geez he’s a strong little fellow!! He has a huge shoulder and hindquarter already. Looks a real runner, even at this age!! Let’s hope he’s inherited his mother’s ability.
maureen phi-llips
Absolutely.

I can’t get over these gorgeous photos. Mom and colt seem to be posing for each shot. They look so regal together. I am thrilled to see this update. Much love to you all!

What great pictures of our Zenny ad her 13Z. He already looks so sturdy and strong…I’ betting he will be quite a runner when he hits the track. Coz is splendid, too, and will always hold a very special place in my heart because he was the first. Can you imagine if these two face one another as competitors? Then throw in V’s new colt and you’d have quite a race. Oh, imagine all the possibilities!

John Shirreffs’ move east is sad sign for Southern California racing
John Shirreffs, trainer to Zenyatta and 2005 Derby winner Giacomo, will leave Hollywood Park, where a cloud of uncertainty hangs, to go to Belmont Park.
By Bill Dwyre The Los Angeles Times April 19, 2013, 5:45 p.m.
John Shirreffs should not depart the Southern California thoroughbred racing scene without a salute. So cup your right hand to your forehead and read on.
There will be no brass bands playing when Shirreffs leaves.
That’s partly because it will be early Monday morning, when racing bustles and everybody else sleeps. Moving vans will pull up to Barn 55 South and load boxes of racing equipment accumulated over three decades at Hollywood Park. That done, the quiet man in the baseball cap will head to LAX and fly east.

I don’t even want to think about that. Too sad, it is well though and every thing will work out . Have a good night.
Terry Crow
That is, indeed, sad. I am sure John will be a biog success in his new surroundings. But, to be blunt about it, California racing is dying for various reasons, not the least of which are political.

Haskin’s Derby Trail: Fate Brought Palace Malice to Derby
Steve Haskin The Blood Horse 19 Apr 2013 9:16 PM
In the movie, “Back to the Future,” Michael J. Fox goes back in time and encounters his parents as strangers when they were in high school. He must do everything in his power to make sure they meet and fall in love in order for him to be born.
Although a light comedy, the movie still is thought-provoking, as it demonstrates the intricate network of events that dictate the course we take in life, even to the extent of being born.
In the case of Palace Malice, it was a simple, but fateful, decision by Burl McBride, the trainer of the colt’s dam, Palace Rumor, that has led the son of Curlin to Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby.

Very touching story, I don’t know whether to be happy or sad.

Dear Keta:
OMG, what a horrendous ordeal Mr. McBride and his horses went through and how lucky beautiful Palace Malice is to be here. I think I just found my Derby horse. With a story like that, I have to root for him and Mikey. Hugs, JB

Beautiful photos. Zenyatta looks awesome as ever, her baby boy is gorgeous. Will be fun watching him grow along with his big brother Coz… Thanks again for giving us photos and sharing Zenyatta and her sons with us…………

Queen Z you look fabulous and 13 Z is amazing! Love you Z!

I was remembering that Cozmic One could walk right under his mom at this age. But you said from the beginning that he was a “leggy colt”. He definitely has long legs and beyond gorgeous. Happy to see these lovely pictures.

Ramsey Farm Friday April 19 2013
In 1941 during the Spring Meet, Calumet Farm won an astounding 12 races, that was a record they held alone until 1968 when Mr. and Mrs. Robert Roberts tied them with 12 wins during the Fall Meet. Those two shared that record until the Fall Meet of 2012 when Kenneth L. and Sarah K. Ramsey also won 12 races.
Today Animal Style ridden by Joel Rosario and trained by Mike Maker won an allowance race so that we now tie the all time record held by oursleves and 2 others with 12 wins. We are running 10 horses over the weekend. We are hoping to break the record that has been held for the last 72 years of Keeneland’s 75 years.

Oh my goodness, what a day. When I could, I was watching the events unfold in Boston and Watertown Ma. Thank goodness that horror is over. I was also happy that in his remarks afterwards, President Obama remembered the people in West. Tx. and promised resources to them.
Next, I checked the LE foal list and Life is Sweet foaled her Tapit filly today. The pink shirt comes out tomorrow.
Finally, I came here and Wow, what wonderful photos. I just have to echo all the praises already expressed. We in Zenyatta Nation are blessed to be given all these glimpses into Zenyatta’s life including her time with her babies. This is a good place to end the day.

Oh what beautiful pictures. Just Gorgeous
Love You Zenny, Coz, 13Z

Hi all,
Did any one notice the young Prince ZT’S knees? very similar to his mama’s, very well built, strong and sturdy with strong ligaments. See how muscular he is, to me and my novice self, that spells power and says he will be a powerful runner. Amen to that. Good night to all.
Queen Z, Prince CoZmic, and Prince ZT, have a great night. It is well.

Dear Keta
Thank you so much for posting VyJack’s Breeze
Marshall (NC broad)
Thank you for these splendid photos! Great job Alys — love the black and white ones, too! 13Z is gorgeous, and he certainly has a beautiful form. Zenyatta just gets more stunning as time goes by.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
Cathy Carusillo
Just reading through some of the comments, and looking at the photos ,. Amazing ! Love that ” Queen Z” , and her babies . I think the first one that most resembles her should be named , “Lota Yatta” ! Whadda ya think ?
Pamela Kafton
I am a HUGE Bernardini fan and Tapit fan, and both of Z’s colts by them are beautiful!!–but after seeing those new pictures of 13Z today, there are NO words to describe him. He looks like a sculpted bronze or gold statue. The definition of his chest muscles, his shoulder muscles, and his rear end is UNBELIEVEABLE–especially for a colt not quite 3 weeks old. HE IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for 14Z, how about that very HOT stallion, MALIBU MOON!! Same family line as Bernardini and Tapit. He’s the sire of Orb and Kauai Katie!! It’s too bad Pulpit passed away, because Alan Porter, the pedigree expert, said that other than A.P. Indy (who has been pensioned, unfortunately), Pulpit was the other PERFECT stallion for Zenyatta. We’ll see, but so far so good. The A.P. Indy sire line lives WELL through our Zenyatta!!
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Dear Pamela K,
I agree completely with your Malibu Moon choice. He is gorgeous and producing some nice babies, its so sad that Pulpit is gone too soon.
I think COZ is going to be dynamic as a runner too. He’s more refined but certainly has the right equipment. They both will be great someday, who knows maybe one will be a grass horse, wonder if the Mosses ever thought of trying that.
Mary McCrea
So thankful that you go to all the work of keeping us all in the loop on Z and her colts. You will never know just how much her fans so appreciate the pictures, the blogs and the videos. She is such an awesome and wonderful mare, i know that I will always keep all who care for her in my prayers! t u….

I know one thing. Zenyatta’s boys will never see a sales ring. After these boy’s racing careers end they will both be syndicated to prominent breeding farms. More than likely, the exact one they were both born and raised at. I wouldn’t be surprised if they haven’t already received offers on both boys for future breeding rights regardless of what they do or don’t do on the racetracks. Does anyone else agree?
Jan Overman
13Z looks to have it all……what a power package!!!!!
Susan
Wow. He is really something. She is turning out some beauties.
