Happy Friday!
We’re kicking off the weekend with new photos from Alys! As you can see, Zenyatta and her colt have been out enjoying the lush spring grass at Lane’s End. We’re sure they’re also anticipating our visit (and lots of peppermints)!
Our trip to Lane’s End begins early next week. If you’re eager to keep up with us while we’re at the farm, follow us on Instagram (TeamZenyatta) and Twitter for live updates.
Enjoy!

Liane Crossley: Pitino horse Goldencents attracting plenty of fanfare in Paris, beyond
KY Foward Thursday, April 25, 2013
For dreamers who root for underdogs from humble beginnings—and, really, who doesn’t?—Goldencents is a logical Kentucky Derby pick.
The colt has attracted plenty of fanfare because of his high-profile connections and his own racing success, but in many ways he is just a hometown boy from rural Kentucky.
Three years ago, Goldencents was romping with other youngsters and their mothers in the rolling meadows of Paris.

Keta,
In total agreement with you, you would think they were twins! Thanks for the post.
Have a wonderful day.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR, PUJ
Thanks Keta – what a great story. He DOES bear a certain resemblance to another colt we know. It took me a minute to remember that there is Paris, KY (my sister and her hubby once lived very close to there :-)
Terry Crow
If there was any way that Godencents could attain racing glory in the Derby without his owner benefiting, I would be all for him. However the business he is in (the owner) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I do not believe that any of the horses who have raced in California have much of a chance.
Pati- Derby Dreamin'
I’m on the Orb wagon myself. I think Cali will have a year as bad as last year was amazing.
Terry Crow
Orb is also my selection.

Q & A with Storm Cat’s Ric Waldman
By Evan Hammonds, The Blood-Horse Updated: Thursday, April 25, 2013 1:08 PM
Ric Waldman served as syndicate manger for the mighty Storm Cat from 1990-2008 when the two-time leading sire was pensioned from stud duty. Storm Cat died April 24 at Overbrook farm at the age of 30.
Storm Cat had a phenomenal run as a sire with 180 stakes winners from 1,415 foals, 108 of them winning at the graded/group level, eight champions, and the earners of more than $127 million.

Godolphin horses banned by doping inquiry
Posted by: AAP+ | 26/4/2013 at 3:48am
British racing’s governing body on Thursday handed six-month bans to 15 horses owned and trained by the leading Godolphin stable in connection with a doping scandal that has rocked the sport.
The bans mean that the 11 horses that tested positive for anabolic steroids, including former 1,000 Guineas favourite Certify, and four others that were not tested but who were administered the drugs, are ineligible to compete until October 9.

Happy Thursday (and new picture day) to my Zenny family. Some of you have noticed that we haven’t heard much lately from our friend Marty R in Colorado. I wanted to tell you that Marty’s husband, Pat, was hospitalized for an extended time, then received some rehab at home, and is now under hospice care. Marty and her family will be facing some challenging times in the days and weeks ahead, and I know that she would be comforted by your good wishes. Marty has been one of our most faithful “lighter of candles” whenever the need arose, and thanks to Trina for helping, there is now a candle site where we can do the same for her. You can access the site at:

You are sweet to do that,Sandy and Trina.
Sending you my prayers, Pat and Marty.

That is, indeed, bad news. Hospice care can only mean one thing. God bless the family.

One of my favorite videos of our Queen, with Mario, shows how much rhythm she had, even while walking; also her love for her fans (checking them all out). She has taught her sons the love of camera, and people, I wonder if they will inherit her rhythm too?

What an adorable picture of 13Z peeking out around Mama Z!!! Also love the one of him grazing just below her head. In this black and white #1, he looks so proud and precious walking beside his glorious mom. Thanks for all.

Thank-you AmandaF; I really like his will to win, just like his great-granddad Seattle Slew. Did you like the video of Zenny and Mario? I liked when they were both looking at the same thing, and when they turned back to look at each other, they bumped heads; they were so close! There is a video “Simply The Best” by Tina Turna, Zenyatta is at Lane’s End, running free; she comes over to Mario snuggles up to him, and closes her eyes; later she stretches her neck over his shoulder, in a hug; SO MUCH LOVE BETWEEN THEM!!!!

Lisa Danielle is KY Broodmare of the Year
By Blood-Horse Staff Updated: Thursday, April 25, 2013 4:14 PM
Morton Fink’s Lisa Danielle, the dam of Horse of the Year Wise Dan, was honored April 25 as Broodmare of the Year by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association at its annual awards luncheon April 25.
A son of Wiseman’s Ferry , Wise Dan is the best foal produced from the mare whose progeny have earned more than $4.8 million to date. The daughter of Wolf Power, purchased by Cecil Seaman for $29,000 at the 1995 Keeneland September yearling sale, also produced Successful Dan, a multiple graded stakes winner from 2009-’12. After producing an Afleet Alex filly in 2012, Lisa Danielle was not bred back that year.

Keta. This is so wonderful. A few days ago we could not even find a photo. Now Lisa Danielle’s picture is everywhere. Congrats to her and her owner, Morton Fink, on this well deserved win. dear max am sure tilly is keeping a close eye on our boy she has strong competition!! so great to see him enjoying life sad to hear Laura’s horse rayef is out of badminton she’s gutted hugs sheena
Max
Sheena. According to Willie Mullins, Quevega is only interested in racing. Many think that she should retire and be a mom, but Quevega is a racing mare first and last. The other horses in that race were all males, and she ran them all down and beat the nearest by 5 lengths on a hand ride. Ruby did not move a muscle. Glorious!
Max
Sheena. With Rayef out on the injury list, it’s all on Super Steve now? Hope Rayef is not seriously hurt and will be back soon.

Dear All,
I just don’t have the words to explain my appreaction and gratitude to the Zenyatta Nation family for your expressions of love and comfort for Pat and myself and our family.
I do love the gratefulness candles. The first site I saw was Zenyatta’s and it was like a spiritual experience to me…I expected to hear bells ringing and choirs singing. I never expected there would be a site bearing my name. Thank you to everyone who has lit candles for us.
Pat has a good attitude and some reasonable goals for the near future. He’s a fighter and will give it his all to realize them. I’m sure he will feel even more strength and resolve from all of your well wishes. He will also feel very humbled that so many people unknown to him are showing so much caring concern for us all.
@ Sandy, N.E. Ohio- Thank you so much for your friendship. I wish we could have met that year we were in Jr. High School together.
@ Trina N.- Thank you for helping Sandy with the candle site.
