Happy Friday!
We’re kicking off the weekend with new photos from Alys! As you can see, Zenyatta and her colt have been out enjoying the lush spring grass at Lane’s End. We’re sure they’re also anticipating our visit (and lots of peppermints)!
Our trip to Lane’s End begins early next week. If you’re eager to keep up with us while we’re at the farm, follow us on Instagram (TeamZenyatta) and Twitter for live updates.
Enjoy!

Sheena. Bobs Worth did win at Cheltenham, but he did not show up to run today. I give full credit to Mullins for getting his horse to the race. Maybe the two will meet again next year? As you know, Long Run was one of our Kauto Star’s rivals.
Is Kauto going to Badminton already?

Goodbye our great Storm Cat. You will be missed but your influence in racing will be felt for many many years. We seem to have lost so many in just a few months. Dynaformer, Pulpit, Storm Cat and many others.

Dear Shirlee and Z Fans:
Got to the Blog late today. Did not realize our beloved Storm Cat had passed. RIP beautiful boy. Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
This is one of the days when I wish I was so gifted as Trina and could give a great poem, but I will just speak from the heart.
My Dear Storm Cat,
Oh my today I got to go into the computer early as I usuall don’t. What I found brought such tears to my eyes all day. I have been so sad that I didn’t get to see you in this life. I tried very hard. But the answer was Do not allow visitors. Even though I never got to see you race or see you in person, I feel like I know you. I guess its through the heart.
I love you very much and wanted to type it. You were more than special and words I don’t think could describe you by anyone. I think one of the hardest things we have to deal with in this life is losing loved ones Animal and Human.
Storm Cat everytime I think about your passing today or anytime i have been so distraught about losing loves of our life this voice tells me Your leaving this life as I know it also.. Which yes, gives me comfort.
There’s more Dear Storm Cat and I know it. The Good Lord promises he can give us victory over death. I believe my Darling Boy there’s a better place where you Secretariat Northern Dancer Barbaro and me and all can be. A place of love
I know you are Ok but I will miss you untill I get to see your face in person when God calls me home.
Love you very much, Peggy.
Max
Here is a video of Storm Cat. Like Big D, he was a king among horses. No one messed with Storm Cat.

Dear Max
Love this video. Love wathching this over and over again.
I bet he and Dynaformer are running free together.
maureen phi-llips
Thank you Max, loved the video, I hope Peggy -N- South Georgia was able to watch the video.
Watching the Video, what came to mind was that the great ones always had special markings and blazes on them. Storm Cat had the star on his forehead and the white stripe on one side of his nose, the side that he had the 2 stockings on. I thought that was real special. You see Secretariat and he had the 3 white stockings. Am just saying, its interesting. Reminds me of the Queen’s 2 Prince’s and their special markings and Blazes, I tell you, these are champions.
Again, thanks for the post. It is well. Have a great evening.
Max
Northern Dancer, Storm Cat’s grand sire, also had three white socks. Storm Cat appears to have inherited his temperament. Storm Cat’s sire, Storm Bird, was feisty too, as was his momma, Terlingua. Stay Thirsty, son of Bernie, has Storm Bird as his dam sire.

Dear Peggy-N-South Georgia,
I just read your post and it brought tears to my eyes, through your writing, I can feel both the Love and Pain you feel at loosing your sweet Heart Storm Cat, especially since you had tried time without number to see him in person. Am sure he is truly touched by this amount of love from you and is smiling to all his friends and bragging.
You summed it up well, that when you are called up, you will again be reunited with him. Cry no more, it is well, and his Spirit lives on through his off springs.
Have you a wonderful rest of the day, it is well. R.I.P Storm Cat.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Maureen
Yes, it is well. Thank you so much for your post.
They were very nice at Overbrook on the phone but it was just they didn’t allow visitors. They always told me to call again to see if things had changed. Others had called also that I knew and it was always the same.
Maureen his spirit does live on through his offspring and we are very fortunate.
Have a great day.

Storm Cat, I’m very very sorry I could never see you in real life. I bet you were a sight to behold. You’re probably roaming around up there with Secretariat, Northern Dancer, Barbaro, and all the others who have passed on to the next world. Don’t get together with Dynaformer and cause too much havoc….not without me there to assist at least. I’ll see you when my time comes, somewhere in the very distant future. Just be a little patient and say hi to Kari B. for us. She is our guardian angel and is definitely someone you would love to meet. Rest peacefully ole’ man.

Peggy (N) South Georgia
Great Great Interview. Thank You so much.
Janet Newman
Great article in the drf. This is from the last few paragraphs and I can picture this in my mind. Storm Cat thundering into the heavens.
Terrazas and Reyes turned Storm Cat out for the last time at about 7 a.m. Wednesday morning and let him graze for about an hour and a half.
“He wanted to go out, so we let him go out before we made the decision,” Terrazas said. The horse had lost weight and those around him knew that now was the time to let him go. “I’d been thinking about it for about a week, and I was just glad we got it done, because the waiting is the most difficult thing for everybody—knowing you have to do it and waiting for the right moment. We just wanted to do the right thing for the horse, and nobody even thought about anything else. It had to be what was best for him.”
Storm Cat now lies in a grave headed by a life-sized bronze statue of himself and prepared by Overbrook’s Terry Judd and John Young. His legacy, of course, lives on in the breed and its records, and his memory will not soon fade.
“Coincidentally, after Copelan gave the injection, we heard a lot of thunder,” Terrazas said with a sigh. “It was a storm moving in. It started raining about 10 minutes after he passed. Copelan made the comment that the heavens were not happy because of this storm, and I said, ‘Maybe they are welcoming him up there.’”

Peggy (N) South Georgia
Janet,
Thank You, Yes definately to welcome him up I believe
maureen phi-llips
Thanks Janet Newman, for the post. Very interesting, Was he lying down when they put him to sleep.? I heard they took him to the grave site to put him to sleep then buried him.
Must have been tough for them to say good bye to him.Thinking about it now, brings tears to my eyes, its not easy.
I too believe the thunder was his last roar and the Heavens welcoming him home. I also think the name, ‘THE LAST MEOW’ is befitting a name for one of his last foals. It is well. He can rest now.
Good night .
Janet Newman
I remember reading from Old Friends and how they euthanized Precisionist by taking him graveside. The vet gave an injection that created a disconnect between his neurological function that would cause him to lay down. No longer aware of anything, the final injection was given. At the graveside, it was easier to place his body into the ground. Not a very good explanation, but it is the same when I had to have my beloved dogs put down, although much smaller.
I assume he was buried whole, while it is not customary to do it with all of them.
maureen phi-llips
Good morning Janet,
Thanks for the explanation to my question above. I didn’t know the
‘Tiger’ aka STORM CAT but pretty sure I would have love him had I known him. His passing is just so emotional for me, may be because I can feel the love and admiration those that knew him had for him especially after reading Peggy [N] South Georgia’s post!, a most powerful declaration of love and pain I have ever read that moved me to tears! Now am the one crying. Waoh, the power of the written words.
It is well though, now he rests.
Have a Blessed day.
shirleeinindy
I believe in the old days, they did not bury the entire horse. Just the heart, hoofs and as a groom at Claiborne told me many years ago “the breeding equipment.” Man O War was an exception as they buried the whole body.

Love your story, Darlene! Best wishes for your new restaurant to be a great Zenyatta-esque success!
Trina Nagele in So Cal --PUR
OOPS–I meant this to be a reply to Darlene’s second post below.
Darlene Daniels
P.S. I forgot a short story I want to share. But before I begin, this is in no way a commercial for my business, ok? My husband and I opened a restaurant/bar a few months ago. A local celebrety came in and placed an order. I (being the main cook) prepared the order. My husband asked if I made it extra special for such and such person. I said “no” I made it as good as I always do”. He then asked “well, if it had been for Zenyatta, what would you have done”? I just rolled my eyes and said, “if it had been for Zenyatta, it would have been free and been the very very best I could make”. Now the ongoing statement is “give it the Zenyatta treatment”. I just say OK, you got it. All my customers get the best, but it just goes to show how Zenyatta has transcended the most common and everyday businesses for so many of us. She is perfection and makes us all strive to be the best we can be.
Janet Newman
Darlene,
I think we can all apply the “give it the Zenyatta treatment” in everything we do.
Give it 100 percent all the time and with love.
Thanks for sharing.
Darlene Daniels
Amen, Janet. 100% all the time!
