Happy Friday!
We’re kicking off the weekend with new photos from Alys! As you can see, Zenyatta and her colt have been out enjoying the lush spring grass at Lane’s End. We’re sure they’re also anticipating our visit (and lots of peppermints)!
Our trip to Lane’s End begins early next week. If you’re eager to keep up with us while we’re at the farm, follow us on Instagram (TeamZenyatta) and Twitter for live updates.
Enjoy!

Thank you. Hugs, JB

So glad he got a chance to visit with his favorite girl.
13 Z looks interested in the banana too.

Thanks for the posting Amanda, loved the pics and read all the comments on the face book page. Our Queen is simply amazing, once she touches your soul, you are hooked for life. Glad that Mikey was able to make time out of his very busy schedule to visit with his ‘ Only Girl in the World’. Simply amazing.
Have a restful night.

While she was pregnant with Prince, Zenny wrote about her new fondness for bananas. Guess it turned into a lasting “crave” :-)

So cute!

Thanks Amanda. What a great guy to take time to visit Zenyatta and her little one. They made a great team. It’s heartwarming.

Dear Z, COZ and Little Red Prince:
Sweet Dreams. Love you so much. Hugs, JB
Bev
That is one beautiful colt! Now I understand the Tapit direction. He is georgeous in everyway. Loves his Momma too. How sweet. Who is her boyfriend going to be this year.
Whinnyforme
This is one wonderful foal – he looks so big
and beautiful – love his color and markings.
Love you Zenyatta. Mike Smith, my favorite
jockey, and very loyal to Zenyatta, as always.

Does anyone know what the green tape means on Cozmic One and 13z’s halter? I know other people were curious about this, but I never noticed an explanation from anyone.
carol in arkansas
Next time LE opens the question line up ….I am going to ask…lots of different ideas
AmandaF
They tape the long pieces of the halter down so the other foals want chew on them. At least that is what I’ve read.
carol in arkansas
But then why do only Z’s foals have that greenish tape?
Pati- Derby Dreamin'
Maybe it’s an ID system for us. In case there is more than one dark foal head or chestnut head in the picture.
AmandaF
Same reason so the foal will not chew her halter.
tony
It looks to me like Zenny is still Mikes best girl! He always said no “man” was worthy of her but that new Tapit baby looks like perfection.
maureen phi-llips
Dear Tony,
Amen to the Perfection part. TGBTG.
Terry Crow
You are right, Tony. Near the time when Zenyatta was set to retire I asked Mike this same question. He replied that none of them were worthy of her. Glad he is staying in touch with her.

Alys, you are becoming quite the photographer! Love the photo at the top of the page.

Dear Trina
Such a beautiful poem for John. I know this must be so hard for all of you in California. But, I’m sure he will be back in the fall.
I am so sad about Hollywood Park too as I love watching the races from there. It is my favorite track in California.
Terry Crow
You talk about history. Seabiscuit won the Hollywood Gold Cup and the great horses that raced there is a who’s who of racing. Money should never mean so much that the end result is the destruction of history.
Ann NC
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot….ouhh.la la la la.
Rhonda
That colt is drop dead gorgeous! He is so balanced and correct and that gorgeous hip and great shoulder. I have to say I think I like him better then his older brother.
maureen phi-llips
Am sure you did not say that about my darling Prince CoZmic One, he will yet surprise every body.
Have a great nights rest, it is well.

Max
JudyB. Thanks so much for this. I love reading about the Dans. They are handsome horses. Morton Fink has said that they look like their mother. Lisa Danielle sure gave them good looks, talent and the will to win. I put it all down to her and her sire, Wolf Power. Wolf was a very handsome gray.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
You’re so welcome. The “Dans” are fabulous looking. Will try to find a photo of Lisa Danielle (love that name).
You have also, maybe, just described our Queen and her boys when they are grown and racing. They certainly look like her and they have Street Cry’s genes for stamina. Hugs, JB
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Couldn’t come up with a photo of Lisa Danielle. But in looking for one, I checked her pedigree and her Dam is a daughter of Secretariat. She also shares ancestors with Z; Princequillo and Prince Rose in both her Dam and Sire’s lines and Northern Dancer in her Sire’s line. The “Dans” come from Royal stock. Hugs, JB

JudyB. We will have to take Morton Fink’s word for it that all her foals look like her. We know that he is right that they can run. No photo just adds to the wonder. Here is a nice article on Dan’s family. Impressive. Wolf Power!

http://www.drf.com/news/kentucky-derby-2013-point-standings
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR, PUJ
Thanks for the update Judy. Just amazing how many have been “side-lined.” I’ve never paid any attention to this before – is it usual to have so many contenders hurt at this point?
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sandy:
This list is of the horses who qualify for the Derby and the points they’ve earned by finishing in the money in their races. It’s not a list of injuries. Sorry if I confused you. Love and Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR, PUJ
Judy,
At the end of the article they list the ones who are “side-lined or off the Derby trail” (Flashback, etc).
Sandy
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sandy:
Oh, I see what you meant. Yes, unfortunately there were some injuries. Sadly, always a risk. Hugs, JB
Terry Crow
I find it remarkable that the last three horses listed would probably not have made the Derby under the old system. Also, the new system makes it almost impossible for a filly to make the race unless she is campaigned against males.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear TC GP:
What you say is true. I never thought of that; unless the girls compete in the Derby Preps against the boys they can’t earn the necessary points. Hugs, JB
Irene Caty
Zenny you did it again, a wonderful looking son and now you have two beautiful boys to carry on where you left off.and I’m very sure that they will. I can’t wait to see them out racing..Z13 also has your wonderful ears and also looks like he is built much like you. I just love his color and am waiting to see more of him. Cozmic One looks alot like your Mom and also has those wonderful Zenny ears and much substance. I love the boys so much and as I look at them I see you and I remember all you did for racing and I can see them bringing all that back again. One day all the excitment of your racing days will be back again within these two wonderful sons of yours and until then, enjoy your beautiful Colt Z13 and teach him all that you are and he will be Great. I love you Zenny and miss you much and so happy to be able to follow how you and your family are doing. Be happy always. Irene Caty in Lake Elsinore Ca.

Dear Irene Caty,
Thanks for your wonderfully written blog. You are quite the writer and I enjoyed everything you said about the Queen’s dynasty. We will all cheer her on again through her wonderful kids, she deserves it. Again, thanks.
Be Blessed.

Dear Judy Berube,
I chuckled when you talked about Lola Mae supervising you. I always tell my husband that our senior pomeranian Holly is our supervisor. She always follows us around keeping an eye on what we’re doing. The perfect supervisor, right???

Love, love this video…especially hearing Mario’s comments about his girl, Zenny.
His feelings for our Queen are so evident. I cannot imagine what it must be for him not to see her…she was such a huge part of his life for several years.
maureen phi-llips
Thanks, I wondered what Ebby was thinking when they were talking about her sister, Proud?, or was she saying, what about me?. Ebby is such a doll with Queen Z’S disposition, I think they got that from their mom.
Have a restful night. May the dawning of tomorrow bring with it sunshine and Blessings from above. It is well.

That made me tear up. You can just see and feel the love that Mario has for Z when he talks about her.

Thanks so much, Judy! This is WONDERFUL! I LOVE Mario! I’m glad that he and his wife Carmen are going to NY–he’ll be taking care of beautiful Ebby, with Carmen’s help, I imagine, like they mutually took care of Z. I’m so happy for them and for Ebby. Hi Trina:
Thanks for sharing the link. I don’t remember seeing this article.
I just finished reading your farewell poem to John. My eyes hurt I was crying so much. What a beautiful poem you wrote!!! You should have it framed and send it to John at his new address at Belmont Park. I am sure he would really appreciate that!
He always showed his appreciation to the fans! And welcome fans when Zenyatta was there and even after she left. I know that I will really miss not going to Barn 55 when I visit.
John, Barn 55 and Hollywood Park will be sorely missed. I wish they could moved stall number 85 to Belmont Park.

Judy–thank you so much for this! I LOVE Slew. If you want to know what Money looks like, just look at Slew. And I loved the comment about his personality–you don’t force him; you ASK him. It’s a matter or respect. Fortunately for Slew, he wanted to race, and our boy didn’t. SO much of it is mental want-to, despite the breeding.
Hugs.

Judy,
Enjoyed this video. He was a wonderful horse and gave us A.P. Indy out of the daughter of my all time favorite Secretariat.
maureen phi-llips
Hi Judy B,
Thank you again for this amazing video on the Slew, what a story, I was about ready to run out and buy me a horse until that guy had to spoil it by saying not to do it if you think this come by everyday then you need your head checked. Men, I was already licking my chops.
One last thing, Slew reminds me of Bernadini, the same brooding handsomeness and gait which I might add, my Prince CoZmic One has.!
Have a Blessed day.

Dear Maureen:
Slew was just gorgeous. He has left us an incredible legacy through all of his progeny and especially through A P Indy.

Betty in Tampa
Thank you so much Lane’s End, Ann & Jerry Moss and Team Zenyatta for posting all these beautiful photos of Zenyatta and 13Z. The queen looks so gorgeous — back in shape and ready to romp with her magnificent chestnut colt. He is just too perfect for words. I think he got all the right genes from all the right places! I just love how sturdy he looks — strong legs, big in the hindquarters, well developed chest and those Z ears!! I sure hope he has Zenyatta’s personality and disposition — that would make him just about perfect! To our beautiful Dancing Queen — you’ve given us Coz and he’s so special and now this spectacular chestnut colt — I hope your next “dance partner” can provide you with a big and beautiful filly — you deserve a little lady to love! P.S. You know Z — your 13Z chestnut does look alot like another great Champion — he was a chestnut with three white socks and a white blaze — he had big, strong hindquarters and sturdy legs — they say he had a huge heart — his name was Secretariat.
Jan Overman
Loved your charming blog, Betty. Your comparison to Secretariat tugged at my heart and filled me with the “blue skies” potential of this special colt. Anticipation is washing over all who have seen those extraordinary pictures taken by Alys. She has captured the magic of the moment so even those like myself, without first hand experience with horses, can see into the future. Kudos to both of you.
Jan S. / Houston
I also love your charming blog. :)
maureen phi-llips
Dear Betty in Tampa,
Thank you for you beautifully written blog, I couldn’t agree more with all you said. Both Prince’s will be great, it is their destiny. They come from a long line of great gene’s.
Have a wonderful day, it is well.

Great comment, and I agree.

Don’t know if any of you all go to Mucho Macho Man’s facebook page, but if you don’t, take a look. There is a breathtaking photo of spring at Fair Hill. Just beautiful. And I don’t care what they say, he looks like a red horse to me.

Dear Sue,
Good morning, thank you so much for this video, learnt a lot and am glad I did see some Slew in Prince CoZmic One, even before I saw your post. Our Prince CoZmic One is in very good company and will be just fine.
Am amazed that Tapit is completely grey, who was his dam, how did that happen. Waoh.
Both Princes will be just fine, they have great gene pool.
Have a wonderful day and keep those vids coming. It is well.

Dear Sue Fredrick:
Thank you so much for this link on AP. Z’s boys have such potential from Z, Street Cry and AP’s line through Bernie and Tapit. Add Z’s little bro and what an exciting next few years it can be. Hope I’m around and kicking to see them all race. Love and Hugs, JB

Goodness, look at the dapples on the Queen – certainly the picture of robust health! I just love that they let us share in their world through pictures and video – many, many people would’ve put Z on a farm and that’s the last we would’ve seen of her.

I hope Z13 stays a chestnut. He’s so big and pretty, and that way he can be Big Red III.
Cathi
Love Z13’s color, I too join many in hoping he stays this color.
