Happy Friday!
We’re kicking off the weekend with new photos from Alys! As you can see, Zenyatta and her colt have been out enjoying the lush spring grass at Lane’s End. We’re sure they’re also anticipating our visit (and lots of peppermints)!
Our trip to Lane’s End begins early next week. If you’re eager to keep up with us while we’re at the farm, follow us on Instagram (TeamZenyatta) and Twitter for live updates.
Enjoy!

A Birthday Poem for Kathy
(April 21, 2013)
How great
That you get to celebrate
With two unexpected gifts
Which each in turn
Your heart uplifts:
First to learn
That Z’s yearling son
As “CoZmic One”
Shall be known
(A name
Truly stellar
Which the prince befits),
And then new pics
To be shown
Of Z’s second-born fella,
Looking every inch the champion,
And game
The world to take on!
Happy birthday, Kathy, and many, many more!
Kathy
Thank you, Barbara!

I have re-looked at the new LE fb picture and have changed my mind…what little mind I have left….do not think that is Z13….no green tape on the halter…someone compare and let me know
Pati- Derby Dreamin'
I don’t think it’s him. Z13 has a lot more white on his legs, face, and belly so far. Of course he could change, as most foals always do, but I don’t think that’s him either. There is also a lot more of the white mixed into Z13’s overall coat color than there is on the foal in the picture that Lanes End has made their cover photo. While it is a gorgeous foal, I don’t think it’s our gorgeous foal.
HeidiK Vallejo,Ca (In Awe)
That is 13Z. How can you mistake those shoulders, the light chestnut color and the, front left sock? Plus, the ears?!
Pati- Derby Dreamin'
Really?? I don’t know. I was looking at the pictures I had saved of him on my phone, and they didn’t look the same. The color was off but maybe it was a different camera angle or my phone being stubborn.
Max
According to LE Facebook, the updated photo is a one of a Candy Ride foal. See Friday comments.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR, PUJ
The mane on the foal identified as a Candy Ride looks darker than the one in the newer picture (nose to nose with the other foal), but I don’t see any green tape on this one.
shirleeinindy
Carol, it could very well be him. The Candy Ride foal seemed to be a little darker and have a darker mane. Lanes End likes to mess with our minds every once in a while. On April 8 they posted an unidentified picture of just the top of the head and the ears of a foal. Never did see where the ID him.
Kaitlynn
Umm Actually it is him. They added the green tape to his halter and everything. It is our beautiful girl Zenny and her beautiful baby boy 13Z

Good morning to all my Z nation family, continued Blessing I send to you all, may today be the Best day yet with love and prosperity. Happy Birthday to anyone who has a Birthday today.

Thanks Kathy, hope you had a fun day. It is well.

I didn’t think it was possible for Z to top her first, but I have to say, what a handsome boy 13Z (“Blaze”) is! Just outstandingly gorgeous in every way! And how absolutely astonishingly beautiful does Z look! The picture of health, her coat shiny, and she just seems to relish being a mom! She looks like she enjoys the “mom” experience so much! That in and of itself is very gratifying to see her look so happy! Thanks so much Alys and all at LE and Team Z for allowing us to share in this joyful time and be a part of Z’s life. Hugs to all!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR, PUJ
Good to hear from you Ann Maree. Hope you are powering up over a little set-back and will be back on the road to mending soon!

Dear Ann Maree, I join Sandy in saying I am delighted to see you posting again! High hoof!

Thanks Trina and Sandy and all my well-wishers!
I’m just overwhelmed at how unbelievably magnificent Zenyatta is and her babies just keep getting better and better. Makes me want to be around 2-3 years from now when they start hitting the track!!! Of course we won’t know for years and years the impact she could have on the Thoroughbred….Pretty Polly comes to mind….Z could wind up with a “line” of her own….I want to be a witness to that! Of course, if she did nothing else, she is forever in our hearts and minds as the greatest racemare ever and nothing can ever detract from that! I’m just so thrilled we are being allowed such a big window into her world! We are truly blessed to have connections like those of Team Z!

Oh my goodness! That chestnut baby boy is sooo precious! I just wanna hug him. Looking at his beautiful face you just know that God is good and the best sculptor ever. And, Zennie is such a good mama, love how close they look to be.
Thank you so much to Lane’s End and Jerry and Ann Moss for sharing these beautiful photos with all of us. It is such a treat to get to watch Zennie and her babies grow up! Best part of my day when I check in and see a new post with photos!
Thank you ! Thank you!

Thank you Team Zenyatta for EVERYTHING! Priceless, cherished memories of watching her race in person for several straight years and your generous sharing of her life after racing. Being able to go back to Barn 55 once and see her, and most of you, in person is one of the cherished memories of our lives. And going to the tracks here to watch John’s other horses race, including Ebby, are another blessed time I won’t forget. I am SO sad for myself and racing fans here in Socal, that I don’t know when I will be able to bring myself to go back to the tracks again, truly depressing. But I wish Team Z the very best in happiness and success, and I am happy for all of the East Coast fans to get to experience that magic in person. Thank you for always loving the horses and putting their welfare first even while achieving the pinnacles of racing success and thrills. Bless you for what you have brought to the sport, to the fans, and to the horses and may your new way be paved in light.

Can understand your sadness at JS leaving CA for NY. Thank you for wishing us here on the East Coast a chance to experience what you all have in SOCA. Hope we get to meet Ebby too.
JS has said he will return to Santa Anita in the Fall, so maybe you will return to the track to see Ebby again then. Hugs, JB

Charles Town Classic: Game On Dude refuses to lose
By David Grening Daily Racing Form 04/20/2013 11:41PM
CHARLES TOWN, W. Va. – Mike Smith wasn’t concerned when longshot Percussion outbroke him and Game On Dude in Saturday night’s $1.5 million Charles Town Classic.
He had other concerns.
“My main concern was he was slipping a lot,” Smith said. “I slipped leaving there. I slipped in the first turn. I slipped in the middle of the turn, but he just wouldn’t stop.”
Despite slipping all over the place, Game On Dude held off his California-based rival Clubhouse Ride and Ron the Greek to win the Charles Town Classic by one-half length, earning the $1 million first-place purse that went to the winner.

Orb Impresses McGaughey in Latest Work
By Michael W. Compton Apr 21, 2013
Florida Derby (G1) victor Orb impressed trainer Shug McGaughey Sunday morning at Payson Park.
The colt breezed five furlongs during a key workout for a scheduled start in the Kentucky Derby (G1) on May 4.
“This was the one we need to get behind us,” McGaughey shared with Gulfstream Park Publicity. “What I really wanted to see was to see him finish good. I didn’t want to see him walking the last part of it.”
Scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs later in the day, Orb breezed five furlongs in 1:02 1/5 and galloped out six furlongs in 1:14 4/5 under regular exercise rider Jennifer Patterson. Working in company with Puzzling, a 5-year-old mare ridden by Octavio Vergara, Orb ran the last quarter of a mile in :23 4/5.

Kebede Wins London Marathon Amid Tight Security
By ROB HARRIS AP Sports Writer LONDON April 21, 2013 (AP)
Tsegaye Kebede claimed a second London Marathon title on Sunday, cheered through the streets by thousands of spectators reassured by enhanced security at the first major race since the twin bombings at the Boston event.
A race that started with a tribute to the Boston victims with a moment of silence ended with a thrilling conclusion under clear blue skies.
With a black ribbon pinned to his chest, Kebede chased down Emmanuel Mutai in the closing stages, and overtook the tiring Kenyan to cross the line first in front of Buckingham Palace.
Kebede clocked 2 hours, 6 minutes and 4 seconds to emulate his 2010 triumph in London, while compatriot Ayele Abshero was third.
The women’s race saw Olympic silver medalist Priscah Jeptoo go one better in the annual London race.
The Kenyan cruised over the line in 2:20:15, the fastest time this year, ahead of compatriot Edna Kiplagat, while Yukiko Akaba of Japan was third

Dear Judy,
I just watched the post on the previous page about the Stallions in Japan.
I have seen that before and in Kentucky. I worried about it for a while. It is hard to watch sometimes, but I learned to understand it.
Zenyen’s post I believe is right on accurate.
I think you just have to have the control. Some probably may need more control than others
I was at Claiborne Farm one time and one of the guests there was commenting on there visit to see Dynaformer before he passed. They were saying how sorry for the girl that was trying to handle him. They said she was having a terrible time. This could have been horrific.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
Big D definitely “Did It His Way”. Yes, I understand handlers need to have control. It’s just that in the videos I posted of DaHoss, Medalgia d’Oro and Bernardini, the handlers seemed to be more relaxed and not pulling on the horses’ mouths so much and the horses looked more comfortable to me being on lead lines than the stallions in Japan. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. I love the bad boys. Both Hastings and Dynaformer are related or share relatives with Z. She’s a descendant of Man o’ War on her distaff side. Hastings is MoW’s grand daddy. And she and Dynaformer have Roberto in their bloodlines. Roberto is Big D’s sire. There are many other horses who might be considered to be “mean”, such as Danzig or Ribot. Love those guys too.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Gotta love the feisty ones. Love to investigate bloodlines. Z has some great ones. With the inclusion of AP Indy’s line, imagine what potential her boys have. Love and Hugs, JB
