Zenyatta, The American Thoroughbred
A journey of a lifetime
The artist offers a rare handmade print of Zenyatta when purchasing the “American Thoroughbred” book. See below for details.
I often think back on the making of American Thoroughbred. I miss the quiet nights I spent under the stars in Kentucky. Listening to the sounds of nature as I lay in my tent thinking about the next day’s photography session. I feel so fortunate to have dedicated a part of my life to documenting these incredible beautiful creatures. There are few things greater than to have the freedom to work on your dream, and feel a great sense of pride and gratitude upon completion.
Since American Thoroughbred, I have started numerous projects that have stopped as quickly as they have started. I find myself wondering if I will ever find the intensity and passion I had when working on American Thoroughbred. It just felt so completely simple and honest. I have been searching for that feeling again. I believe the moment finds you, and searching is hopeful but rarely fruitful.
The day I met Zenyatta was a special day. By the time I had the chance to photograph her my lens had been in front of the most famous thoroughbreds of our life time. None had struck me the way Zenyatta did. I remember her walking around the corner of my back drop. She was like no other Thoroughbred I had seen. She was sophisticated, gracious and confident. More than anything I felt a connection that is hard to describe. I was emotionally connected to her from first sight. I understood her, I could feel her, we were communicating. Above all she gave so much love, that feeling will be with me always.
The strange thing was that as I was working on American Thoroughbred, I was often asked “When will you be finished”. I would always respond with the same answer “when I know it’s over”. I remember the exact moment I knew it was over, it was the very last time my shutter clicked when photographing Zenyatta. I knew what I had on that roll of film said it all, there was nothing left to say. I can recall the precise moment; the camera fell to my side, I turned away and handed the camera to my assistant and said “it’s finished”. I felt a sense of sadness as I said those words, I was never happy to have finished, I never wanted it to be over.
I am forever grateful to the Moss family and all the supporters of Zenyatta. Your generosity and kind words are with me.
Receive a handmade 8×10” silver gelatin print.
The artist notes it is important to return the gift back to the supporters of Zenyatta. His fine art prints in the American Thoroughbred collection are often out of reach for many people. The artist is pleased to offer the following gift to Zenyatta supporters.
For a purchase of the “American Thoroughbred” book, the buyer shall receive a handmade 8×10” silver gelatin print. The prints are handmade by the artist in his darkroom. This is a rare opportunity to own a print from the collection. It will be of the print that led the launch of the book. This photograph in its own right is becoming the most coveted of all the prints in the collection.
To receive a print you will need to send your proof of purchase to info@neillatham.com. All purchases must be done through twinpalms.com. Include your proof of purchase (email receipt of your order), name and address of where the print is to be shipped to.
The offer is limited while stocks last.

I hope a Happy Thanksgiving was had by all. I had an exciting Sunday. A small herd of cows decided to escape from their field and travel down the highway and up my driveway. When the responsible parties showed up they were at a loss how to get them home. Finally the owner arrived with one man sitting on the tailgate with a bucket of food and one honking the horn. The cows decided to follow them home. I never knew eight cows could poop that much.
I am better but have very little strength. I look forward to the day I can resume my normal activities. As always just seeing the photos of Zenyatta makes me so happy.

Dear Vicki,
Great to hear from you! Exciting Sunday visitors and very compliant once food was introduced. Glad you had some live action entertainment.

Black Caviar’s Oscietra steps out for Nolen (PHOTO)
Andrew Eddy Racing.com 28 November, 2016
Luke Nolen vividly remembers the day he sat on Black Caviar for the first time in 2009 and the jockey is hoping that Monday’s date will also stay with him forever after taking his first ride on the superstar’s two-year-old daughter.
Nolen made the trek to Lindsay Park at Euroa on Monday to get a feel of Oscietra before the filly makes her first public appearance either this Friday or next at Flemington in the official jump-outs.

Sorry Judy, I guess my Comment was confusing
I posted it not because the article included a photo, but because
“the filly makes her first public appearance either this Friday or next at Flemington in the official jump-outs.”

One-track thinking absorbs energy and hides good ideas like thick fog. People want to think for themselves, and they should. A good thinker seeks input from sources that benefit what he is trying to accomplish. His ear is turned to the sound of something that will help. But be aware that not everyone is open in this way. Some people throw up guards against the truth if it goes against what they want to believe. They hotly protest that they know as much as anyone else, which may be true-but on different subjects.
Remember that if what you offer rings of or looks like truth, know that it may not be well received. The market is not flooded with takers for truth. But be diligent: some will be open to your help even though they may not be beating down your door.
Everyone is ignorant-but on different subjects.

Dear Kathy.A cold day here but at least it is sunny. We have the painters outside and they have just stained my front door and it has to be kept open until dry!!Not a good idea in this weather.I hope all went well with Steve yesterday.I hope you watched the video of Nikkos he was being taken to the airport and we get to see the elusive Viktor! Some sad tales again.I cheer myself up by watching the John Lewis advert most days.Such a joy.The polish PM was visiting yesterday another woman am not sure of her name but Mother Theresa was all in black when they visited the memorial to the war dead. She doesn’t have a stylist her husband advises her!She reminds of Her Majesty we know her and yet we don’t.
They have been storms in the US according to Zoe and I think she was talking about Ohio.I loved the new cover photo on Marty’s page and putting the President elect in a mixing bowl. There must be a law against it!!A lot aren’t keen on this new idea on FB Nerissa preferred the videos on the left.I put a message in for Fubu some peeps are still donating. They playing “summer Breeze” on the radio lol.
Some thieves stole Christmas presents from St Mary’s hospital. They were for critically ill children even Rupert was lost for words.I think Richard is still out in Eygpt.Did you hear the story of Princess Beatrice pretending to “knight”singer James Blunt at a party she swung the sword and cut Ed Sheeran’s face!Lucky his head stayed intact.Hope you have a good day back at work.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar. SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Oh dear, having to leave your door open in the cold. How miserable! Steve is fine today. He was a little drowsy after the procedure but otherwise okay. They found a small polyp and removed it. He doesn’t need another colonoscopy for 10 years, the nurse said. Yes, I saw Nikkos’ video. Nice to get to see Viktor! I’m glad you have the John Lewis advert to cheer you up. As to Mother Theresa’s husband advising her on fashion…I don’t think I would want to go out in anything Steve would pick out or me! lol Zoe is praying about the storms and unrest over here. Yes, I think she was talking about Ohio. Haven’t seen the new cover photo over at Marty’s page. Will go over and check it out. Yes, FB has changed things around. It certainly takes some getting used to1 I don’t know what to think about Fubu. Summer Breeze on the radio…funny! Yes, I saw the piece about the presents being stolen at St. Mary’s. That’s just horrible. Hadn’t heard about Princess Beatrice. Wow, she must have felt awful! Hope Ed is okay! Jane Lyon is a lucky woman! Eblouissante is such a gorgeous horse. Have a good day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

A great OTTB story!
The story of two middle-aged people, two ex-racehorses, a grueling ride across America – and a lot of broken bones
Emily Shields Thoroughbred Racing Commentary Nov. 29 2016
The plot is cinematic: a 60-year-old woman and her boyfriend jump on two former racehorses and ride from Northern California to Virginia, a journey of 3,500 miles. Along the trail, the woman breaks numerous bones but rides on anyway. The twist is that the story is true and took place in 2016.

Think long and hard before you give control of your life to something or someone. Never having to think for yourself and take care of yourself does not mean you are free from responsibility. The only thing it does mean is that you have fewer choices over which you have control.
Now is the time to think about controlling the choices in your life. It’s very easy to give up control over many parts of our lives if we don’t take care and pay attention to what is happening. There are enough things in our lives that dominate us without giving society and government control over life itself.
Consider the mess that things are in and stop looking for ease and freedom from responsibility. Rev up your thinking, doing, and voting. Let the world know you have a right to have control over your own life, to make choices about your own life. When you do this, your self-respect will become stronger. Never violate the sacredness of respect.
When we are poor we will tell you of it.
