Zenyatta, The American Thoroughbred
A journey of a lifetime
The artist offers a rare handmade print of Zenyatta when purchasing the “American Thoroughbred” book. See below for details.
I often think back on the making of American Thoroughbred. I miss the quiet nights I spent under the stars in Kentucky. Listening to the sounds of nature as I lay in my tent thinking about the next day’s photography session. I feel so fortunate to have dedicated a part of my life to documenting these incredible beautiful creatures. There are few things greater than to have the freedom to work on your dream, and feel a great sense of pride and gratitude upon completion.
Since American Thoroughbred, I have started numerous projects that have stopped as quickly as they have started. I find myself wondering if I will ever find the intensity and passion I had when working on American Thoroughbred. It just felt so completely simple and honest. I have been searching for that feeling again. I believe the moment finds you, and searching is hopeful but rarely fruitful.
The day I met Zenyatta was a special day. By the time I had the chance to photograph her my lens had been in front of the most famous thoroughbreds of our life time. None had struck me the way Zenyatta did. I remember her walking around the corner of my back drop. She was like no other Thoroughbred I had seen. She was sophisticated, gracious and confident. More than anything I felt a connection that is hard to describe. I was emotionally connected to her from first sight. I understood her, I could feel her, we were communicating. Above all she gave so much love, that feeling will be with me always.
The strange thing was that as I was working on American Thoroughbred, I was often asked “When will you be finished”. I would always respond with the same answer “when I know it’s over”. I remember the exact moment I knew it was over, it was the very last time my shutter clicked when photographing Zenyatta. I knew what I had on that roll of film said it all, there was nothing left to say. I can recall the precise moment; the camera fell to my side, I turned away and handed the camera to my assistant and said “it’s finished”. I felt a sense of sadness as I said those words, I was never happy to have finished, I never wanted it to be over.
I am forever grateful to the Moss family and all the supporters of Zenyatta. Your generosity and kind words are with me.
Receive a handmade 8×10” silver gelatin print.
The artist notes it is important to return the gift back to the supporters of Zenyatta. His fine art prints in the American Thoroughbred collection are often out of reach for many people. The artist is pleased to offer the following gift to Zenyatta supporters.
For a purchase of the “American Thoroughbred” book, the buyer shall receive a handmade 8×10” silver gelatin print. The prints are handmade by the artist in his darkroom. This is a rare opportunity to own a print from the collection. It will be of the print that led the launch of the book. This photograph in its own right is becoming the most coveted of all the prints in the collection.
To receive a print you will need to send your proof of purchase to info@neillatham.com. All purchases must be done through twinpalms.com. Include your proof of purchase (email receipt of your order), name and address of where the print is to be shipped to.
The offer is limited while stocks last.

If you want to know the meaning of peace, go down to a little stream and sit quietly. Sense the timelessness. Watch the water as it ripples past roots and over stones, and know it is washing away stress and worry and unhappiness. Close your eyes and listen to the wind rustling the leaves, and hear a bird chirp or a squirrel bark. Be so quiet you can hear the deer’s hooves dragging through a carpet of autumn leaves and the hoot of an owl in the dark part of the woods.
Be still and silence the fears that try to invade this time. Touch the earth and feel its rhythm and its vibrations. See how it restores itself after being turned upside-down. God made it for us, so receive it as a gift.
The Great Spirit made these mountains and great rivers for us, and all this Land.

Native Dancer has won the Hennessy from a fast-finishing Carole’s Destrier. The rise and rise of Colin Tizzard.Run at a frenetic pace from the off Smad Place found the weight too much this year. The Duchess of Cornwall is presenting the trophy.
Max
Native Dancer is the iconic Gray Ghost and the dam sire of Northern Dancer. He’s one of the most famous and successful US racehorses and sires of all time. His name is unlikely to be used again. You could mean Native River? Might be an idea to provide some background info on these horses and people in your posts as they are not that well known over here.

Sorry I was breathless after the exciting finish and typed quickly. One lucky punter won about £314,000 on the scoop6 today.

Long ago I had a teacher who was nicknamed “Buffalo,” partly because of her great shoulders clad in black crepe, but mostly because she threatened to whip shy students for going blank at the blackboard.
Years later she attended a school reunion. We assumed that the nickname would no longer fit, and that something soft and gentle would have taken the place of the harshness we’d known. We were wrong. She came with the same attitude, the same overbearing manner, and informed most of her former students that she did not remember them at all.
Whole lifetimes can be lived without learning the importance of kindness. We had the privilege of knowing we were right in our judgment, but the greater lesson was that we had learned gentleness and that a real buffalo-unlike this human one-was quite amiable.
Perhaps the hardest duty in the performance of parenthood was not so much to watch the conduct of their children as to be ever watchful of their own.

Dear Sheena,
Hope you’re having a good day so far. It’s still early morning here…I’m just getting started. Very chilly here this morning. More rain later today, they’re saying. Snow in the mountains. Miss Diane got all the decorations put up. She worked hard on them! Love the pics of Zoe admiring all of Mommy’s effort. Little Mouse visited an aquarium, and Wookie was pulling Luni’s tail. She won in the end, though…she had the sock! Have a blessed Sabbath. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

A Cherokee elder once said, “Indian forgive, but Indian never forget.” It was obvious by his tone that he was not carrying a grudge-but that only one broken trust is sufficient. Trust is fragile, and truth is necessary for building trust. Most people play fast and loose with the truth, believing that others are not intelligent enough to remember what really happened. Often people couldn’t care less about the truth. They say, “It happened. OK, let’s all forget it.” But forgetting about the truth, isn’t the way-at least it’s not the right way. We must be trustworthy, we must care. Truth and trust are beautiful gems. We must treasure them. When we do, the world will become a better place.
Agreements the Indian makes with the government are like the agreements between the hunter and the buffalo after it has been pierced with many arrows. All it can do is lie down and give in.

Dear Kathy.Same as me I always forgive but NEVER forget. It was so sad to hear about Wimbley last night and so soon after Marty’s anniversary. He had seemed to be improving lately but it was not to be.He had a wonderful final day though and is now on the biggest adbenture of his life one we will all have to take one day.
It promises very cold for us tonight and temps only 4C tomorrow. This time last year it was soo mild temps were around 63F on Christmas day.I love the fact Rex and Oscar are scared of Larry,The Belgian PM was visiting Mother Theresa last week and Larry was in amongst the press pack then they heard him fighting with Palmerston. He rules the roost.Did you see Theresa in her leather trousers?I have been looking for a link to send you but no luck she was giving an interview to the Times.A real fashionista.Bojo may be going to Castro’s funeral Comrade Corbyn is definitely going. Still celebrating in Miami.I saw Zoe’s beautiful tree Miss Diane worked really hard.I found a new cat called Benjamin Button he was due to be euthanised but has a new home now and is walking well.He is ginger. There is a lovely photo of Ebby on the National Stud twitter sale in a few days. She looks gorgeous. Untapable will stay there while visiting Frankel Felix was on CBBC the other day she goes to the vet for a bath and gets her matts removed(very floofy)I used to chase Katie around the house with a comb in my hand.Did you see the Samba I posted from Strictly?Gosh,Danny Mac is hot stuff!Manthlet came home safe and was giving a reading at Grosvenor chapel yesterday all 1940’s fashion,We must do extra turtling today in honour of Wimbley.Loved the video of him pea fishing.I wil neber forget his adbentures.I am sure we will still get messages from Heaben.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Dear Sheena,
I’m off today because the day after Thanksgiving was a regular day off for me, so they had to give me another day. Today’s the day! It’s kind of a bad day off so far. Steve was scheduled for a colonoscopy this morning so I have to drive him. I have to leave pretty soon to pick him up. The price of getting older! Yes, I’m very sad about Wimbley. The corm and pea fishing video is classic. Love it! Be sure to stay warm! That’s pretty funny that Rex and Oscar are scared of Larry. Didn’t see Theresa in her leather pants. Will look for them. You can tell Diane is an artist. Her decorating is very professional looking! I’ll have to look for Benjamin Button. Also Ebby. She has always been stunning. Yes, I saw your Samba. I agree, Danny is very hot! Manthlet is a colorful character! I must run to pick up Steve. RIP sweet Wimbley. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

In Memoriam: A Cowboy’s Ride
Chelsea Hackbarth | 11.27.2016 |The Paulick Report
He spent his life in the background, a subtle supporting act for the grand display. Plain in color and not particularly flashy, the older gelding never complained about his job, marching to work each afternoon with the same efficient stride. It didn’t matter if the day was insufferably hot, freezing cold, or even pouring down rain, Jack was the same steady companion.

Prat was thrown to the ground at the start of race 3 when his mount, We Got Now, stumbled badly. Prat was cleared to ride by first-aid but prior to his remaining three mounts noticed blood in his urine and took off.
