Dear Kathy.I really enjoy being my own best friend! It’s turned much colder today we had a stormy wet night but lovely blue skies now.I heard it rained quite heavily in CA.Gosh, another earthquake! The ratties were able to cuddle with mum after their visit to Michigan. No trouble there or jail for Mr Fibbs.I am glad you enjoyed the pics how quickly the time has passed seems only yesterday William was attending nursery and I remember Prince Charles starting at Cheam when he was about 8 or 9.George looked sweet carrying his own rucksack. Was’nt that a touching goodbye letter from Rocky.May God bless him on his way.Zoe is getting used to not being the only furbaby.I can understand how she feels!Mr Al is improving slowly but given his advanced years it will take a long while.I am late today been shopping a lot of Easter eggs are already out and chocolate bunnies.Still no announcement from Fubu!!I see Found may win an award in the turf category.Maurice has won Japanese horse of the year remember Ryan riding him.Hope you have a great day,Love and hugs to you, kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
We have had a lot of rain. This is really helping to lessen our drought. The earthquakes get us pretty excited at the time, but then they sort of drift to the recesses ’til the next one! The ratties were enjoying some quality time with their mom, it seems. Really enjoyed the pics of George going off to nursery school. Can’t help but reminisce about his grandfather and father as they entered school. As Zoe’s mom says, Rocky’s story gave me leaky eyes. As I posted, I pray his crossing is peaceful. Feeling so brokenhearted for his family…Such a cute pic of Zoe and Oliver both on Daddy’s lap. Zoe seems to be doing the best she can with sharing. It’s never easy! I’ll have to see about picking up a get well card for Mr. Al. Wow, they’re selling Easter eggs really early, aren’t they? I don’t know what to make of that whole Fubu situation. Good for Found, and congratulations to Maurice. Have a good Friday Eve. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

I hope all of my friends on the blog had a happy and safe new year’s. Looking forward to California Chrome’s race on Saturday. However the weather is so bad here in SoCal that he may be scratched. At any rate, this is mainly a conditioning race for him and money should not be bet. Here is another from Hee Haw and I apologize in advance. Here it is verbatim–woman to Archie Campbell, playing a doctor–“Are you looking at my legs?” Archie–“No, I’m way above that.”
Terry
What weather you have been having in SoCal-rain, wind, mudslides, and even an earthquake! Yikes.
So, hoping there is enough time to dry out a bit before Saturday.
Still laugh at your jokes-even when I don’t get a change to acknowledge them.

Dear Abigail,
As always, wonderful stories! Love that you found that great photo. Will have to re-read this issue of the Vault again. Your articles are treasuries of horsedom. I wish you could see the rock collections we have in and out of the house. Wherever we go, our car or truck almost always have rocks rattling around in them. I told my husband a long time ago – rocks don’t cost anything. My two favorite famous horses are here in my studio with me every day (well, not ‘them’ but their sculptures and models) ~ Zenny’s model and also ‘Finish Line’ – by Nina Kaiser and Sgt Reckless. Zenny is also ‘dancing’ in our living room (another sculpture by Nina). Most artists are ‘collectors’. Aside from horses, our collection includes rocks, dried leaves, dried flowers, interesting (well interesting to me, pieces of wood . . . .
Thanks again for another great historical read. with love, Elizabeth
Elizabeth: My turn to thank you and it’s so much fun to meet another rock collector. Like you, I have rocks and horses all over the house. In my case, it’s horse photographs from my collection: Zenny, Man O War, Secretariat, Your Host (Kelso’s dad), Count Fleet, Phart Lap, Exterminator, Terlingua, Dance Smartly, Flanders, Istabraq, Lammtarra, Nijinsky…..and others I still need to frame! Glad that you enjoyed the article. Love & hugs, Abigail
Dear Abigail,
Wow! What a find! So happy you got this great photo of Exterminator and that you found out who Robert P. Dorman was. This is a very interesting piece, as are all of your works. I think there should be some memorial/statue at one of the tracks where Exterminator raced. He definitely was a phenomenal horse — still flying around the track at age 8-9!
How wonderful to learn something about this great thoroughbred who has been overlooked in the history of racing.
Thank you for this beautifully written article and for all your articles!
Hugs and Love
Marshall: thank you so much. I was delighted to get the photo and it was such good luck I’m thinking that it was meant to be mine. And thank you so much for this beautiful response to the article. It was really very fascinating learning about Dorman. As with Exterminator, he too deserves some kind of lasting recognition. Love & hugs sweetie. So pleased you found the tale interesting!

Auntie Sally B
Dear Sally,
So very sorry you’re sick. Hope you stay warm, drink lots of water and do nasal rinses (medi-plus saline rinses -hope you don’t mind me giving you this advise – I use them twice a day since I have had lung ‘issues’ the past decade or so). Zenny is good medicine too! Keeping you in my prayers, with love, Elizabeth
Dear Sally B.,
Sorry to hear that you are sick and hope that you will recover quickly. Bronchitis is not to be taken lightly so I wish you a speedy return to good health. Power up, Sally!
Hovis has had time off and having a lot of fun in the mud with mum and the American dude!!! Yes it’s rained a lot!!!Safe trips to all horses and jockeys this weekend in our Wesh Grand National plus good luck to CC!Sheena http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/blog/hovis-friday-i
Thanks for our Hovis update. Hopefully his fields will dry out! Maybe all that mud will be good for his skin and his manly coat. Safe trips for all horses and jockeys this weekend on both sides of the pond. Go Chromie!
Please try to be happy. Not just in outer things but in those of the heart. Too many things exist to interfere with outer emotions. Go where you can relax in the knowledge that happiness is something deep in your heart.
Some stretch their hands out to catch the stars and forget the flowers at their feet. We cannot ignore those things nearest us and expect happiness, for happiness is born within. Our hearts contain all the tools for creating happiness. As elusive as it sometimes seems, happiness does exist-and it is closer than we think.
Happiness is not only good in itself, but it is healthful.

Dear Kathy.A sunny day over here!!A lot are getting tired of the rain in CA I thought you’d all be happy!!We are far more used to the wet and windies.Diane is getting better but Oliver was in the dogsters overnight trouble with the waterworks.Mr Al is holding his own.The ratties took some trabel juice and enjoyed their bisit to New Hampshire. Some lovely stories on Joey today especially Eddie the Maine Coon and his relationship with the baby in the family almost motherly instinct.Loved the pic of them hand in paw.Loki and Freyja enjoyed having their mum home for 2 weeks lots of bedtime cuddles. Can’t believe Elvis would be 81 today. It’s also our Dame Shirley Bassey’s 79th.Judy had a painful visit to the dentist something to do with her braces and Mattie is taking up a lot of room on the bed the sissys are annoyed!Still no news from Fubu!!I found Sheena de Corgi last night I haven’t visited her pages for ages she has a brother Max.Rocky had a very peaceful end at 8.35am yesterday his owner hopes to keep the page open in his memory.I remember Homer the blind cat had about 16000 friends when he died now his page has 3/4’s of a million.I don’t think Karen had a good time in the mud with Hovis but the Yorkshire born lass is tough.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
I’m off today, work tomorrow. Pilates at 11:00. Sun is shining right now. We have had a lot of rain and I’m certainly happy about that. we need every drop we can get! I’ll pick up a card to send to Mr. Al while I’m out today. Diane’s cold has really hung on. Poor little Oliver has so many issues. Hope he’s well again soon. The ratties have enjoyed their travels. Loved the pic in the library! Loved the story of the Maine Coon cat with the baby. Loki and Freyja were spoiled just like my dogs while we were off all that time. Furkids love having their “parents” with them! It very hard to believe Elvis would be 81. Happy birthday, Dame Shirley Bassey. I think the dentist + braces=PAIN! Hope Judy feels better soon. I feel sorry for the sissies. Furkids love to sprawl out on beds! I don’t know what to make of Fubu and Kimberly…I’ll have to visit Sheena de Corgi more regularly. I feel so bad for Rocky’s family. They love him so much. I’ll have to look up Homer. 3/4 of a million…incredible! Karen needs to stay out of the mud until it dries up! Have a great Friday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Dear Sue, just now catching up on posts. Praying for you and your Mom and a happy belated birthday. Back to the doctor routine for me. Hate it. Looking forward to CC’s race return. And the boys! How soon do you think we can begin pacing? Zenny you look magnificent.
Corinne has announced Cirrus is to carry on racing next year!!Also Faugheen is likely to take on his conqueror Nichol’sCanyon later this month. It will be a hard slog in the Welsh Grand National tomorrow due to the heavy ground.Sheena
Sue in Fl. Happy Birthday. I hope you and your mom have a very special day together.
Judy B. Thank you Judy for the link on the 43 horses lost. I was not aware of this. How devastating with the loss of these horses; must be just heartbreaking for the owners of them. love n hugs, Sally B
Dear Judy.Oh,I only own a few of the hairs on Nobby’s tail!!!But we are all excited about him Treve has posted a beautiful pic today. She looks amazing.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Hi all, I hope all of you have begun your 2016 in a great way.
I have now received my Christmas present in 2016. Here is my story. Back I think in 2011 I just had to have the artist’s print of Zenyatta’s dance. Back then it arrived; I loved it. Three years ago I could not pass purchasing the Fred Stone print “Zenyatta and foul”. It meant so much to me as this was Zenyatta’s first foul Coz. It is truly so beautiful. They look so much a like.
Well, I kept them in their protective cylinders thinking some day I will be able to afford to have them framed.
This year just prior to Christmas I told my husband that I do not want any thing else but to have my one print framed, Zenyatta’s dance. He said he would be in agreement with it and in fact he would go and have it done. I did express and show him the color and type of frame I’d like etc.
One day he said “Get me the print” I handed it to him.
While lying in bed now sick Jim went to pick it up and when he walked into the bedroom, he turned the finished art now toward me. “Oh, how beautiful…but I gave you the wrong print.” WHAT!!!! he said! I had forgotten that I actually did purchase Fred Stone’s print!! It was more than I thought I should spend. Am I losing it or what!
It looks just fabulous!! Now I am really happy I made the mistake because Zenyatta and her foul, Coz, are more than precious. I’ll get around to having the other framed one of these days. hah hah I am so very happy!
Have a super week end. love n hugs, Sally B
Stay warm Zenyatta! Things are to get colder here and may by you too.
love you with kisses and to your sons

Baffert, O’Neill Look Strong in Sham Stakes

Get ready, everyone! Another terrific day of racing awaits on January 9th, highlighted by the return of 2014 Horse of the Year California Chrome in the San Pasqual Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita. But for Kentucky Derby fans, the best race of the week is probably the $100,000 Sham Stakes (gr. III), a one-mile race that marks the first Derby prep race of the 2016 Santa Anita meet. The race has drawn a talented field of nine up-and-coming three-year-olds, so let’s take a look at the entries! http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/unlocking-winners-handicapping/archive/2016/01/07/baffert-o-neill-look-strong-in-sham-stakes.aspx

Dear Sally,
So very sorry you’re sick.

January 8 Cherokee Devotional
Please try to be happy. Not just in outer things but in those of the heart. Too many things exist to interfere with outer emotions. Go where you can relax in the knowledge that happiness is something deep in your heart.
Some stretch their hands out to catch the stars and forget the flowers at their feet. We cannot ignore those things nearest us and expect happiness, for happiness is born within. Our hearts contain all the tools for creating happiness. As elusive as it sometimes seems, happiness does exist-and it is closer than we think.
Happiness is not only good in itself, but it is healthful.
-Hopi

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I’m off today, work tomorrow. Kathy XOXO

My gosh, I have written foul instead of foal. Now I know my mind is not clear. Sorry.

Baffert, O’Neill Look Strong in Sham Stakes
By J. Keeler Johnson The Blood-Horse 07 January, 2016
