HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of my wonderful Zenny friends, to Team Z, to the folks at Lane’s End, and to our horse of a lifetime, Zenyatta, and her children. Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all of our beloved horses!
I found the following on a card several years ago and thought it was so lovely that I bought one to keep. I may have posted this before, but it still seems more than appropriate:
A Prayer for the New Year
May all who work for a world of peace and reason be granted the gifts of strength and courage.
May the good that dwells within every human heart be magnified.
May the blessings of truth and understanding always be ours,
and as we grow and build for tomorrow, may we join hearts and celebrate the miracle of each other.
I wrote this for Tizgood, because while this blog has always encouraged discussion, the flat out bashing of these farms, the judgement and constant insistence of ‘knowing all there is to know and they need to listen to ME’ has got to stop!
Tizgood
Your experience is not the experience of others.
I feel no need to explain myself but I have worked on these farms and with these people for decades now. To see someone swoop in with what is a lay man’s know it all and judgemental attitude based solely on experienced gained second hand from ‘someone I know’ or ‘someone I boarded at’ is sickening.
You have an opinion yet you state it as ‘I know better then anyone’ without the common decency to accept that you have no knowledge of the details of this particular horse, this particular farm, these handlers.
You insinuate that these people neglect these horses because there are so many but you have no knowledge of how a breeding farm/nursery operates.
You are just like the people who swooped in demanding answers from Lanes End and making disgusting accusations when Princess Z was lost as a way to further their own agenda.
And the worst thing you do?
You wrap up your comments with a condescending ‘Love and Hugs’ which you obviously use as a pat on your own back as to how clever you are to dupe other blog members into thinking you mean it.
Just because someone signs their name ‘Love and Hugs’ it doesn’t absolve them of being condescending and judgmental. Rather than write ‘Love and Hugs’, consider acting on those words.
Stop, before you post and maybe consider that maybe, just maybe the men and women on these farms, the people who don’t have Christmas break or New Years holiday because the horses have to eat, be groomed and be cared for, just maybe they actually know more about these horses and these conditions than we do. That maybe these losses hurt them, yet they pick up and continue because they have horses looking to them to continue caring.
Maybe consider a little charity in their direction, before you start flinging your accusations that ‘young horses shouldn’t die, there’s something wrong, they need to do this, this and this because I say so and I know best’. Signed of course ‘Love and hugs’.
Dear Maxine,
Happy New Year and wishing you joys
and happiness in 2016 the world at war is not able
to bring us at this time. Your comments
are so very poignant.
Love and hugs
Max
Better days to all, including you, Sign, currently masquerading as Tizgood.
Z13Rulz
LOL!!
No wonder all this sounded painfully familiar. Thank you for the heads up Max.
Thank you, Max. It really is something I am passionate about, especially after the horrible things that were said about Lane’s End and the caretakers on these farms after Princess Z was lost.
I have great hopes for Ziconic, looking forward to him getting into the starting gate and of course waiting to meet the next gift Zenyatta will present us with, hopefully around March.
Tizgood
Dear Z13,
Passion is one thing, rudeness is
another.
Love and hugs
Tizgood
PS:
As Jeremy Nosedra said,
“What annoyed me the most was the rude response…,
It was an ill-mannered lack of class …”
Z13Rulz
Precisely.
Your lack of class in choosing to judge and bash the professionals with their hands in the horse in question is what strikes the nerve.
If you want to share your experience that is one thing. Presenting your opinion as gospel and using language that makes your opinion fact is ill mannered and as you can see being ill received.
Interesting tidbit about the feeding of guinnes to race horses;
The great Irish chaser Arkle used to have 6 raw eggs, mash, oats
and two bottles of guiness in his feed.
Also, did not realize the cecum, a part of the equine colon, acts as a fermenter
in horses, that is why they are able to eat raw grains ( humans do not
have this type of processing). When a horse does not eat, the cecum
continues to produce gas, which can further decrease a horses appetite,
lead to colic and colon perforation. Guinness has been feed to horses
for many years by Irish trainers. It has barley and hops in it, which horses
love and the stout seems to be the most tasty to horses. It increases the
appetite, and allows digestive processes to work fully so gas does not
collect in the cecum after a hard workout. Thus, preventing colic.
Dear Tizgood,
I only have one more thing to say. Yes, would you please stop this. Not only are you bashing the farms, but have you stopped to think. There are young adults and teenagers that love and read this site. You could be playing on emotions here. What if there are young horse owners that have lost horses to Colic. You don’t know a particular horses condition. People hurt badly when they loose a pet. We don’t want anyone to blame theirself at something there may not be any control over. Are you a medical professional? You need to stop these comments. Even if you were which I doubt, this issue needs to be left to the professional on here.
Yes we all need to learn what is best for the horse, but you are going into a Medical Area here. When you talk about Intestinal area you are in my opinion doing just that.
Please Stop This.
Although I have never posted to this site before, I feel that i have to respond to this posters comments. Having dealt with numerous colics both fatal and non fatal and having a more than a passing knowledge of equine nutrition, i can reassure the readers that thoroughbreds are no more likely to colic than any other horse breed. As several posters have remarked the causes of colic are varied and unique to each case. Digestive stress can result for many reasons including changes in the weather it is not fair to generalise regarding individual animals.
With regards to stout, the yeast it contains is an appetite enhancer and stout also contains small amounts of minerals primarily iron and vitamins B12. It is fed to fussy feeders, to encourage them to eat their feeds, it is not used as a colic preventative.
Ps rolling to adjust fetal position only occurs at the very end of gestation not months in advance. I think the mare is just enjoying a good wallow.
Hope this clears up some misunderstandings

Dear Deborah:
Thank you for your very knowledgeable information. Colic can indeed be a serious problem in horses and, unfortunately, is all too common.
As with people and human illnesses, some horses are more prone to it than others and, as you indicated, some cases are more serious than others. Love and Hugs, JB

It is very sad that some posters on this blog have created such conflict on this blog
on New Years Day. May god bless those who are so unhappy on first day of 2016,
and give them the vision to see and appreciate all that is wonderful here from
everyone. We are so fortunate to be able to share all of our thoughts, ideas and
opinions.
There is a big difference between a paddock accident, which is tragic and unpreventable; and colic of all kinds, which is preventable.
Please lets enjoy the joy and happiness of Zenyatta rolling in the mud,
eating her peppermints and growing the lovely foal we are to see
in the next few months.
Dear Sheena,
Oh how much fun, just read about the WocketWoy Syndicate.
They are selling one year leases with two options for Nobby.
It would be so much fun to be a part of their syndicate in chasing.
There are lots of perks, too. They are developing a great website.
What a very fun group. Hmmm
Love and hugs
Dear Tizgood.Yes, a lot of us have bought a share in Nobby. They are developing a great website.Hopefully he will win next time out.Kauto tweeted a very poignant message for the New year.Enjoy every day it may be your last.I pray he was having fun in the paddock the day of his accident.Hugs Sheena
Dear Sheena,
I may join you and the group in leasing Nobby for a year.
What a fun opportunity. What a powerful tweet from
Kauto, but so true. I second your prayer for
him. He was such a special boy. Happy New
Year my dear friend.

Sad news from Santa Anita today 3 horses have had to be euthanized 2 in the 2nd race and 1 in the 3rd.I think Mike was riding one of them but all jockeys were fine. Not a good start to 2016.RIPSheena
More than 30yrs of continuous racing coverage on Channel 4 will come to an end later this year.ITV have sensationally won the contract to show all the top meetings and Saturday meets.I can only hope they get new presenters.Viewing figures had fallen dramatically these past few years.
Dear Judy. This is too adorable!!We could learn so much from the animals who share our world!!!Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Hope you had a lovely New Year’s day.Love and hugs SheenaX
Dear Judy,
How very very cute; maybe the breeding farms need to
install stallion size hammocks and pipe in soft music to
their stalls as a stress relaxer and new part of colic prevention
regime. I would love to see Tiznow relaxing and swinging in
a hammock, that boy would love it !!!!
What a great find and such a very sweet baby donkey.
Love and hugs
PS
In the western world of horse training, they teach their horses
to lay down, it is quite a sight to see and an example of the
complete trust the horse has with rider. Just add a hammock
and music.

A new door opens-a new year has begun. This is a very special time, one year passing away, another beginning. All of us are awed by this event. Yet some are worried while others are confident about what has been promised. What do we see? What is on the horizon?
Seeing what is coming is little different from spotting a deer in the woods. Most of the time we look for the entire outline of the deer-from the rack of the flicking tail-and we miss the joy of glimpsing a live deer scampering through the woods. When we know what we are looking for, we focus: a tiny movement, an ear, a white tail held high-any evidence that points to what we are trying to see. But when we do not believe there is even a deer in the woods, we fail to see any evidence and end up jeering at the idea. What do we miss? Everything, simply everything.
Mutants [whites] have something called gravy. They know the truth but it is hidden under the spices of convenience, materialism, insecurity, and fear.

Dear Kathy.Wonderful devotional. We sent the wet welsh weather over to Sandown.Very heavy ground horses finishing pretty tired and muddy.Zoe is having trouble with facebutt and she’s getting a foster brother today!Poor Diane has had a dose of a cold. Is’nt it unlucky to remove the decorations before January 6th?Everyone is surprised about Channel4 losing the right to broadcast racing from next year. Now I am old enough to remember racing on ITV of course the BBC showed all the big meetings then. The BBC has no racing on now..The viewing figures for channel 4 have fallen dramatically since this new production took over.Lovely videos of Ray and they have snow!Kimberly has an announcement to make today I think?Mango is nearly home lots of flooding in Missouri.Mattie enjoyed looking at herself in the mirror.I had no idea the X-Files is back.My mum loved that show It will start on our channel 5 next month.Hope you have a great Saturday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Looks like we will be having rain possibilities for most of next week here in SoCal! Sure hope that happens. We need every drop we can get. Lots of flooding back east in MO. I feel so bad for everyone affected. I hope Zoe isn’t too jealous of her new foster brother. Hopefully they will get along together without too many problems. I don’t think I remember hearing that January 6th rule. That means I can procrastinate a little longer! I enjoyed the video of Ray running around. He’s so sweet. I wonder what Kimberly’s announcement will be? We’ll all feel better when Mango and family are safely home. You’ll have to watch X-Files in honor of your mum. Enjoy this first Saturday of the new year. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Dear Judy,
How very very cute; maybe the breeding farms need to
install stallion size hammocks and pipe in soft music to
their stalls as a stress relaxer and new part of colic prevention
regime. I would love to see Tiznow relaxing and swinging in
a hammock, that boy would love it !!!!
What a great find and such a very sweet baby donkey.
Love and hugs
Tizgood
PS
In the western world of horse training, they teach their horses
to lay down, it is quite a sight to see and an example of the
complete trust the horse has with rider. Just add a hammock
and music.

January 2 Cherokee Devotional

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Looks like we will be having rain possibilities for most of next week here in SoCal! Kathy XOXO

Wonderful seeing Phar Lap in his prime and in motion.
There is more information on the site which is not posted here.
PHAR LAP Last vintage film of him in Australia before going to North America
Uploaded on Dec 18, 2010
This is a vintage film of Australia’s greatest racehorse, and one of the best in the world, the magnificent ‘Phar Lap.
In his short time on the earth ( 1926-1932) Phar Lap ( nicknamed, ‘Bobby’, and the ‘Red Terror’) won two Cox Plates, a Melbourne Cup( bigger than the Kentucky derby), and 19 other weight for age races.
