You are right. He gets to put the initials after his name, but cannot be called Sir. Ireland is not a Commonwealth country. The Canadians don’t allow the use of titles either, even if Canada is a member of the Commonwealth.

So happy for AP McCoy, such a wonderful guy and great representative for racing
across the world. He has a great personality, and such a great talent as a horseman,
good sport and funny as well. Love his At the Races video, from this year. He was such a good sport about the jokes about his “fashion” off the track and interview/discussion
with Adian OBrian that he actually worked/trained with before he went to Ballydoyle.
So glad that the recent attempts and the foiled terrorist attacks – recently in Turkey and Belgium for the New Year have been stopped. Hope the fight continues against these
unreasonable people for those injured in previous attacks, as they rehabilitate and return to life, ever to remember the terror they have experienced.
Dear Judy,
Great article on the Great Frankel; surprised the breeders are saying he is not
stamping his progeny and they look like the Dams; seems that the ones I have
seen here look like him. It is going to be a great year to see them run. Wish
Sir Henry was here to see them – of course he is looking down. Wish Lady
Cecil had been able to keep his stable going along with his legacy. Loved the
year end review, of Frankel video’s and Sir Henry video, I was able to do
over the holidays – a time to remember.
I agree, a lot of the foals resemble him I think. Yes, it’s sad that Sir Henry didn’t live to see them; but as you say, he and Bobby F. will be watching. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Kathy.I think I have told you before how the birds greet the day with a song. It’s turned colder today although we had thunder around lunchtime when I got home from town.Someone has put a lovely tribute up for all the horses that have left us this year.I had a shock to see so many are their lives no less important than a jockey?I’ve posted it on my timeline.I have no idea how the precious present ends. You’ve heard the story before. The ratties have been to Utah they hope to have all the states next year or they will hab a big sad!!The hot cross buns were on sale today I had seen them in Tesco back in November.Tesco was busier today than Christmas Eve.Everyone is thrilled for AP he is only the 2nd jockey ever to be knighted.Lester would have been except for his tax fraud. Her Majesty told Sir Peter O’Sullevan he had been “a naughty boy”Lester was hurt when they took his OBE away. There have been some cute videos up of the poms and Dexter.Lots of security for the firework displays tonight in London and none in Paris or Brussels.Have a great New Year’s eve.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Dear Sue and Tony,
What a wonderful poem, just lovely!
You have given a most sincere poetic tribute to Z, Team Z, and this great site.
Thank you for expressing what we all feel deeply.
Happy New Year!
Dear Sue and Tony,
Wonderful, true words – thanks so much for this beautiful poem for our Queen Zenyatta – so fitting. Happy New year. with love and best wishes for you both in this new year, Elizabeth
Dear Sue and Tony,

Zenyatta has given to us.
Hope you had a wonderful New Year’s eve

Speaking of birds there is a funny video a friend of mine shared with me, I will share it with you, too. Stay warm and cozy in the intermittent storms. You’re right, the horses we have lost are as important as the jockeys. I will check for that tribute. Stay tuned for the ending of the precious present. You’ll love it! I’m sure the ratties will accumulate licenses for all the states, as well as many other countries. Hot cross buns…that’s pretty funny. I always associate them with Easter. Congratulations to AP. Lester must’ve been pretty bummed about not being knighted. That would be pretty embarrassing to be told you were a naughty boy by none other than Her Majesty! Yes, I’ve enjoyed all the videos Dr. Jill has shared of her adorable furbabies. They’re all so adorable! I’m sure there will be wall-to-wall security in London tonight. Enjoy your celebrations tonight, and Happy New Year! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
I want to wish everyone over here on the “Blog Side” a Happy New Year and ask you to check over on the “Forum Side” under the very worthy “Worthy Horse Rescue Organizations and Current Needs and Updates” Discussion.
Some of you may remember that Mea Ola’s Place is the Organization that rescued Spider last year, back on November 3, 2014. He is the Thoroughbred racing stock colt (2013 son of Birdstone) who was diagnosed with an unhealed fractured pelvis that had been present since birth. Mea Ola’s Place (the Horse Rescue in Phelan, CA) was contacted to see if they could take him, otherwise his owner, fallen on hard times and very ill himself, was going to have to euthanize the colt whom he dearly loved. Mea Ola’s Place (M.O.P.–em oh pee) didn’t think they could take him on at that time, but after I told Ann that Spider was Mine That Bird’s half-brother (genetically-speaking) and made her watch the 2009 Kentucky Derby on her computer, she got all excited and posted this info on the facebook page and decided that maybe Spider shared Mine That Bird’s ability to win against long odds. The donations for saving Spider had been frozen for days at an amount way too low to provide him any vet help, but with the posting about the odds and Mine That Bird, the donations doubled.
I posted the notice about Spider on the Zenyatta Forum, and somehow Steve Haskins learned of it and mentioned it on his facebook page and the donations poured in. If any of you can get this story out to him now, we’d really appreciate it. MOP needs some help again.
See the Forum Discussion mentioned above (Worthy Horse Rescue Organizations and Current Needs and Updates) for details, beginning on p. 28. There are some great pictures of Spider, showing his back side a year ago, and again as it looks now. A year ago, his left hip was about 9 inches shorter than the right hip; now his hips are even. A year ago, Spider was barely able to walk, with a severe limp, and receiving 2 gms of Bute twice a day. He is no longer on any pain meds and can not only walk, but can also trot, canter, and gallop in wonderful fluid style; and he can buck, jump, kick back, prance, change directions instantly, stop on a dime, and rear. None of these movements were possible when he was a foal and a young colt. He’s also spectacularly beautiful and has grown from 15.1 hh to 16.3 hh when last measured. See http://www.meaola.org/#!spider/v0oit for his story.
If you click on the Home page at this Website, you will find a bar near the top that you can click on for a live cam view (4 cams) of MOP. You don’t have to be a member of MareStare to watch the cams. Spider can be seen live on the lower right cam, unless he is in his shelter, or out in the round pen or the arena. Best viewing is in the morning and early afternoon Pacific Time.
Thank you so much. Let’s all hope and pray for a peaceful 2016 and a good year for our beloved horses, especially Zenyatta and her hugely anticipated blessed event and little 16Z.
Dear Virginia H.,
Thank you so much for this wonderful story and for your help in Spider’s rescue, too.
Great to know about M.O.P., also. What a caring, loving facility. It is so great that Spider now has full range of motion and can eventually be ridden, as well. He has such a sweet personality. It is so heart-warming to see him in good health. I do so love a happy result.
Happy New Year!
I want to give my Shoutout for praise to the wonderful farms looking after our horses.
To the poster on the previous page’s negative comments why don’t you talk to a Veteranarian about Colic. I hope you read Z13rulz wonderful comment.
I have to comment about this. Colic can have many causes as yes already stated. These farms and individuals who have horses that get Colic are devastated by this. I have had two friends who have Colic Stricken horses. One vanned her horse a number of hours away to Central Florida for Colic Surgery and one friend lost his horse. Colic can be a devastating thing to see in some horses. As it can be very hard on the horse and he or she can suffer badly. I am so happy Regal Ransom did not suffer. These are World Class Farms with a lot of them with Vet’s on Staff. I pray for the New Year we can find a way to save horses with Colic.
I can not say enough about the care these farms give to these horses. I am so proud we have them. My very favorite horse resides on one of these farms and has for decades. The care he has been given is just the “Best” I just wish every single horse had this kind of care. These farms and care givers to the horses mostly all love them. I take my hat off to them this New Years Eve. Thank You.
Sorry your friends have been dealing with the colic. Give them my best, Peggy.
This crazy weather has us keeping special watch over these precious babies.
Dear Peggy,
Please read my response on the previous page to Z13.
I have seen many many horses colic in the barns that
I have ridden in and none died.
Dietary changes are the key to colic prevention.
As for Shared Belief, I am so impressed with how
everyone was devastated by his death. However,
he blew out his intestine after returning to his stall
after a work, immediately. He was also a very very
stoic horse; and no one read how very stressed he
was returning to training, which is very sad. And as Judy
said the pevlic fracture was the beginning of too
much stress. TB will give their life to run; because
of their heart and courage, it is the humans that
must read the horse and protect the horse from
laying their life down. My friend had a TB who lived
to be over 25 years old, he was as flighty, bold and
courageous as they come;and had she not protected
him from himself he would have died as a youngster.
Yes, Owned, Seven. Seven wonderful loves of my life
Tizgood
Then you have learned to protect them from themselves;
unfortunately those (not all) love the thrill of a winner, a
talent and great pedigree. Often not having their best
interests in mind.
By the way some of the Stallions breed 200 + in 4 months.
One of these stallions is Cape Blanco- not sure that
much breeding is in the best interest of the stallion and
can lead to complications from breeding -neck and
spine injuries ( Street Cry); intestinal prolapse Harland’s
Holiday etc …..
To Zenyatta, Coz, Ziconic, Ann, Jerry, Dottie, John, All From Lane’s End, and all my Dear Friends here hope you all have a very Happy New Year.
Baby Princess Z, Love you forever.
I wish all of my friends on the blog peace and good will. One from Hee Haw–Roy Clark and Junior Samples were both lying on bales of hay. Samples turns to Clark and asks “You going to the dance Saturday night?” Clark–“yep.” Samples–“You taking a bath?” Clark-“No it aint formal.”
Love it! Ha-Ha, and Hee-Haw!
Thanks for our dose of laughter, TC; you are our resident Doctor of Smiles and all things good, dear friend.
Best wishes to you for a Happy New Year with good health and joy.
Today’s devo:
Thou dost sweep men away; they are like a dream, like grass which is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and withers. So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:5–6, 12)
For me, the end of a year is like the end of my life. And 11:59 pm on December 31 is like the moment of my death.
The 365 days of the year are like a miniature lifetime. And these final hours are like the last days in the hospital after the doctor has told me that the end is very near. And in these last hours, the lifetime of this year passes before my eyes, and I face the inevitable question: Did I live it well? Will Jesus Christ, the righteous judge, say “Well done, good and faithful servant”?
I feel very fortunate that this is the way my year ends. And I pray that the year’s end might have the same significance for you.
The reason I feel fortunate is that it is a great advantage to have a trial run at my own dying. It is a great benefit to rehearse once a year in preparation for the last scene of your life. It is a great benefit because the morning of January 1 will find most of us alive, at the brink of a whole new lifetime, able to start fresh all over again.
The great thing about rehearsals is that they show you where your weaknesses are, where your preparation was faulty; and they leave you time to change before the real play.
I suppose for some of you the thought of dying is so morbid, so gloomy, so fraught with grief and pain that you do your best to keep it out of your minds, especially during holidays. I think that is unwise and that you do yourself a great disservice. For I have found that there are few things more revolutionizing for my life than a periodic pondering of my own death.
How do you get a heart of wisdom so as to know how best to live? The psalmist answers:
Thou dost sweep men away; they are like a dream, like grass which is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and withers. So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:5, 6, 12)
Numbering your days simply means remembering that your life is short and your dying will be soon. Great wisdom — great, life-revolutionizing wisdom — comes from periodically pondering these things.
The criterion of success that Paul used to measure his life was whether he had kept the faith. This is what I want us to focus on.
And if we discover that we did not keep the faith this past year, then we can be glad, as I am, that this year-end death is (we hope) only a rehearsal, and a whole life of potential faith-keeping lies before us in the next year.
Dear Sue.This is a truly wonderful message. They say the closer we are to death the more we learn to live.I hope you have a happier healthier new year.we only have 55 mins of 2015 left!Hugs Sheena
Hope everyone is surviving this wacky weather. The storms, flooding, and snow in many places has certainly wrecked havoc on so many people. Like Shirlee, I am happy NOT to be shoveling snow, but these gray days and all of this rain are getting old. Things are turning a bit colder here now, and we may see a bit of winter before the weekend is out (just so it happens AFTER the New Year’s guests arrive tomorrow when I definitely will NOT have time for snow removal).
The only remaining member of my parents’ generation turned 100 yesterday way up in the north of Scotland. Unfortunately, I will not be inheriting her longevity as she is an aunt by marriage, but she is also one of my most favorite relatives! I would love to have been there for the celebration (the weather even hindered some of the local participants), but I did get to talk with her on the phone which is always delightful. She even received a special greeting from The Queen!! So Bravo to my Aunt Teddy!!
Dear Sandy,
A very Happy Birthday to your Aunt Teddy! I understand how special members of our parents’ generation are to us — a dear family friend (my godmother’s daughter-in-law) died this past November at age 96, and she was sharp and active almost to the end. I think I have run out of those who can remember when I was born. They definitely were the best of the best.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, my friend!

Dear Zenny and fellow Zenyatta lovers,
Wishing everyone, and especially you, Queen Z, a wonderful, healthy, productive and happy New Year. Have loved everyone’s posts the past 5 years I’ve been a part of this amazing group of fans. Can’t imagine a day without you all. You have become part of my heart that I will cherish always.
with much love and prayers for blessings for you, Zenny, your talented ‘boys, Coz and Zi, Team Z – The Moss’s and The Sherriffs, everyone at Lanes End and this amazing fan family, Elizabeth
Best wishes to Queen Z, Coz, Ziconic, the Mosses, the Shirreffs, Team Z, Lane’s End and all here on this blog. Good health, happiness, joy and most of all, may this old world find some peace and kindness.
A new day, a new year, a new era. Many moons have passed and they were not all spent in good pursuits. We spent the time lavishly, we bestowed a profusion of attention on people and circumstances unworthy of our purpose. I am young and have all the time in the world, or I am old now and there’s no need to try this late in life.
Youth courts the hours the way Abram counted the stars. The aged bow to these words of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce: “Hear me chiefs! I am tired, my heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands I will fight no more.” But we cannot decide in one moment how many moons we have. The Great Spirit sees our hearts and loves us anyway. We ask permission to do well with this new time and we know we are not alone.
The frog does not drink up the pond in which he lives.

You don’t have to be a member of MareStare to watch the cams. Spider can be seen live on the lower right cam, unless he is in his shelter, or out in the round pen or the arena. Best viewing is in the morning and early afternoon Pacific Time.
You can also check MOP’s facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/OperationHorseRescue/timeline. PLEASE SHARE.

Thank You.

Colic happens and I’m still devastated about Shared Belief’s passing. Rest In Heavenly Peace beautiful boy.

Sorry your friends have been dealing with the colic. Give them my best, Peggy.
This crazy weather has us keeping special watch over these precious babies.
Tizgood
Dear Peggy,
Please read my response on the previous page to Z13.
Have you owned/leased a horse?
Love and hugs
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Yes, Owned, Seven. Seven wonderful loves of my life
Tizgood
Then you have learned to protect them from themselves;
unfortunately those (not all) love the thrill of a winner, a
talent and great pedigree.

Hi Zsters?

Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sandy,
A very Happy Birthday to your Aunt Teddy!

January 1
