Don’t know if this Steve Haskin’s article has been posted before, but it’s another wonderful SH piece written in Chromie’s “own words”: California Chrome Meets Mr. Peabody. I think, if you haven’t seen it, you’ll really enjoy reading it. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy and Steve Haskin,
Mrs Elizabeth here. Mr. Peabody and Sherman – is it possible to have a consult to i know if Zenny is having a colt or a filly?! Waiting and pacing in New Meixco,

Dear Judy B.,
Thank you for this article. As usual, Steve Haskin hits it out of the park! This is truly a delightful piece. I love that he is a Rocky & Bullwinkle fan. He certainly makes some very astute observations here. Loved it!
Thanks again for a great read.
Every last one of us is in need of a loving hand-not a permissive hand, and not a hand that strikes out, but one that soothes and stops short of clutching. The human condition is a result of disobedience. Every rule has been broken-every law written and unwritten-has been ignored. Imbalances, injustices, broken hearts, and instability are part of the human condition.
Where is the loving hand? It is within us. When we forgive, when we speak kindly, we set ourselves free. We are part of every loving hand. Though the bad may get worse and the good will become better, we decide which-good or bad-we will be.
You must speak straight so that your words may go as sunlight into our hearts.

Dear Kathy,
Such great words. So often, I’ve spoken without thinking. Will try to remember “where is the loving hand?”. I wish there was vacuum cleaner to sweep up mis-thought words. Thank you so much for such a deep and thought-searching devotional today. Pray that it sinks into my (and our) heart(s). with love, Elizabeth
Dear Kathy. All humans seem to break the rules don’t they?I watched the film “The Pianist”the other night.Oh, God the way the Jews were treated and yet still we never learn.A suicide bomber in Istanbul today killing 10 I think.
No news of Zoe’s patients yet she made a lovely video for Mr Al.I hope he’s a little better than yesterday also Oliver.I didn’t know it was Wookie and Luni’s 4th birthday the other day he seems more stable now not much coughing.Loki has some stunning photos up today. He has the most gorgeous eyes and Ripley is doing well with his chemo. The only problem is where they shaved his fur for the op it’s grown back grey!!That’s a small price to pay for life and he looks wonderful.Ray is out playing but got his coat on.It’s cold here today bitter wind oh,for the balmy December days!!Frankel’s first foal of the season arrived last night at the National stud Take a look on my timeline. Also the 2nd one to arrive on Sir Henry’s birthday.Mum is Chigun and already has a filly by him. It’s lovely to see all these new babies arriving.Have a lovely day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO.The ratties had bisitors yesterday lots of cuddles!
I remember how hard-hitting the film The Pianist is. The depths that humans can sink to is truly unbelievable. Yes, I heard about the bombing in Istanbul. So scary. We’re all so vulnerable. Terrible world we’re living in. I know Mr. Al will love Zoe’s video when he’s up to it. What a sweetie she is. I hope she gets to visit him in person. I’m anxious to know what the doctor says about Oliver’s treatment. He sure is a cute little dog. I loved the birthday pic of Wookie and Luni. They are such beautiful little dogs. Yes, it’s very encouraging that Wookie has improved so much. Will look for Loki’s pics. Good to hear Ripley is doing well. Always nice to see Ray outside enjoying the day. Good thing they put coats on. It’s very cold in New England these days. I’m sure you really miss the balmy days you had in December. Stay as warm as possible. I’ll look for the pic of Frankel’s foal. It’s very exciting this time of year. Before long we’ll be welcoming Zenyatta’s new little one! Anxiously awaiting the second Frankel foal. The ratties enjoyed the bisitors. I’m not sure if I would want three rats on my shoulders, though! Have a happy Tuesday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Sandy,
Thanks for the post about the photo. Had to be taken between Sunday and today. She looks very happy and content with her “girls” in the field. As cold as it is, hope they take her inside today. Hope that little one comes soon.

Freezing outside tonight, but we ran out to peek at the stars. It’s an amazingly cold and starry night! Thinking of you all and praying everyone is warm and happy tonight under the twinkling sky.

We had a couple of very clear nights last week, and although I didn’t actually go outside, I was so excited to see the entire Orion constellation and Sirius (I think) from my bedroom window! I remember as a child walking with my parents to a point where we could see well to the north over Lake Erie and spotting the Big Dipper! We must have been having astronomy in science class ?✨✨
Dear Sandy,
Lovely remembrance from your childhood. God bless your parents for giving you such a special memory – especially braving the frigid night air. Love Orion! We’ve gone often in the early dark winter evening to star gaze, and also out in middle of the night or predawn hours to watch meteor showers. Not as often as in the past, but sometimes. The ‘waking up in the middle of the night’ is not so bad, but the cold gets a bit harder to do. Thank you for your ‘star-gazers’ update. with love, Elizabeth

Dear Kathy.Miracles happen every day in the world but we only get the miserable news on TV.I stayed up to watch a bit of the state of the union address last night so you can imagine what time I got to bed!!!It’s pretty cold again with very heavy hail showers.Ray got some snow good to see him wrapped up well! That would be considered a lot of snow for us lol!I read about the 2nd police dog killed called Krijger I went on their FB.So sad to see them give their lives because of the stupidity of humans.
Dolly’s mum has been very depressed and they haven’t been online. No wonder living in Tripoli. The far-right wing went on the rampage in Leipzig the other night and the French are going to bulldoze some of the Calais camps the refugees have refused to move into a housing unit they built saying it looks like a prison camp!A bit too fussy???
Zoe got to see Mr Al and there were leaky eyes.Loved her in her nurses uniform.Still praying for Mr Al and Oliver too.Did you see Mango’s wonderful conversation with Judy yesterday she was sooo sad there were no butterflies around in the winter and Judy explained how nature rests until the spring.Brought tears to my eyes and then Michael had posted a pic of Kauto at Kempton on his last visit in 2014 so many more tears!Paddy Power are saying the Irish will definitely win the Gold cup this year record number of entries. What do you think of Jerry Hall getting married? That’s her pension plan all sorted!!!Have a great day.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Wow, you really were up late if you were watching the State of the Union address! You might want to turtle-turtle a little bit today! Stay inside as much as you can with those heavy hail showers. Ray was bummed that they only got a dusting of snow. He’s such a cutie, all bundled up. Very upsetting reading about Krijger’s death. It’s horrible we’re losing so many of these wonderful officers, all because of the stupidity of humans, as you say. May he rest in peace. Sorry to hear of Dolly’s mom’s depression. Yes, we would be depressed too if we lived in Tripoli! Gee, what are the refugees in Calais supposed to do??? That’s horrible. I’m glad Zoe was able to visit Mr. Al. We’re all joining her in praying for a miracle. Also prayers for Oliver. Mommy is picking him up this morning at 9:00. I missed Mango’s conversation about the butterflies. I’ll have to go over to her page and read that. I’m sure the picture of Kauto made you cry. So hard to accept that he is gone. We’ll have to wait and see who wins the Gold cup. Yes, Jerry Hall’s set for life! Might be a little difficult with a husband old enough to be your dad! She’ll most probably have to hire a nurse before too many years, but she’ll have more than enough money to cover that. Have a good Hump Day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
RIP K9 Krijger, Norfolk Police Department, Virginia. It happened after police say an armed, barricaded suspect shot and killed the 4-year old Belgian Malinois while police were trying to arrest him. Krijger, which means “Warrior” in Dutch had served 3 years with the Norfolk Police Department. Krijger was a warrior for sure. Justice, the man shot by the police has died.
RIP Krijger, courageous one.
Many thanks for your bravery. So sorry it ended this way and much too soon.
Apologies to you for the actions of my defective species.
Dear Judy.Zenyatta is getting really spoiled this week!Bei-Bei or Bruce-Bruce is making his public debut on Saturday!Goodight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

Kentucky Derby 2016: What Are We Waiting For?
Trackside with Trackman -Horse Racing Nation-Jan. 12 2016
Old Man Winter’s sabbatical from the Western New York area has come to an end.
Just a couple of days prior to Christmas, our region was basking in the warmth of 65 degrees. The entire month of December was highly enjoyable. Mild temperatures and no snow. None, Nada, Zilch! The above normal conditions carried over into January. However, winter conditions have returned…and with a vengeance. As I write my first Trackside With Trackman blog for 2016, the current scenario outside is an ugly reminder of what things should feel and look like around here in mid-January: COLD and WHITE, complimented by shovels, snowblowers and plows.
So, what’s a person to do? Stay in, keep warm and think ahead to springtime.
Of course, when you’re a horseplayer and entertain thoughts of springtime, the 2016 Kentucky Derby should be first and foremost on your mind. That’s because, it’s never too early to look ahead to the Derby. So, let’s get started. http://www.horseracingnation.com/blogs/Trackside/Kentucky_Derby_What_Are_We_Waiting_For_123
BGG,
Thanks for the post. I just can’t get excited about the colts this year. Think the fillies are more interesting. Last year I was in the Texas Red corner and after him Far From Over as longer shots and AP for a winner. Hope the competition between Songbird and Valentina develops into something special.
What about Nyquist???. Then there’s the Tapit, Mohaymen.
shirleeinindy
Sandy,
Nice colts but they just don’t give me that “feeling.” Still early and there are some promising ones out there. I like Swipe some in spite of that late birthday. Nyquist keeps beating him but hopefully Swipe has matured quite a bit during the layoff.
Dear Judy B, I really loved the article you shared ” Chromie and Mr Peabody” by Haskins. So well written in CC’s words.
I am so glad CC does know he still has his fans that have loved him from the beginning of his racing. I have never stopped loving this beautiful horse and continue to think , pray for him and wish for him the Gold Cup if this is what his heart wants.
love and hugs, Sally B
Judy,
He said it well. It is so hard when one of them that you have loved for years leaves us and even more so when an accident or illness takes them away while young. Thought I would never get over Barbaro and Eight Belles. But along came Zenyatta, Muchie and Rachel and racing had me again. But like the old song says “Love Hurts!”
Thank you Judy for this article with such warmth. I always hug Fancy and Jo because as a volunteer and the fact that they are older, I may not see one of them again.
love n hugs, Sally B
Dear Sally B.,
Give Fancy and Jo hugs from me, too! I am glad that they are still here for you to love on. Thank you for your wonderful care of the rescued ones.
Yes, your Fancy and Jo are so well loved in their senior years and as we know only too well, our beloved horses can be fragile. I always hug Charlie and tell him I love him too. Love and Hugs, JB
There is a Tiznow colt named Tiznoble entered in the Derby prep LeComte Stakes at Fairgrounds on Saturday. He is a gorgeous Gray and his Dam, Tamboz, is a daughter of Tapit and full sister to Tapizar. This is a replay of his last race on 12/28/15 at Fairgrounds. You have to scroll down to Race 6 to watch the video. He has a lot of competition in the LeComte, but I believe he has a good chance. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy,
Thanks for the heads up about this colt. I can’t get into the boys this year and hopefully one will win my heart soon. Of course, the trainers might want to pay me to not like their horses considering my record in the Derby. Had AP but as a second choice I had Upstart who finished last and Vicar the year before who also finished last.
We’re just getting started with the Derby Preps. Who knows, maybe a certain Red Head will make it an easy choice this year. You never know. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for the link. Tiznoble is a beautiful grey. What outstanding parentage, too! Son of Tiznow and grandson of Tapit (on dam’s side) — impressive to say the least.
Will be following him and hope he stays safe, sound and successful.
That was a real treat. You have the knack for finding talent. As I recall, you were one of the first to identify Chromie as a winner. I also liked that other gray in the race. What a great looking horse.
When you are tired of it all and nothing seems worth the time and trouble, remember that you feel that way not because you want less life but because you want more of it! Feeling discouraged can be a sign that you want a fuller life, a better quality life.
Everyone has felt sick, left out, overcome by age or bad experience. Though we may feel like we’re the only ones who have ever felt this way, we’re not. Our challenge is not to give in to despair when we’re discouraged. Instead, when we reach out and give to others rather than always expecting to receive from them, we begin to find love and respect-both for others as well as for ourselves. Then our discouragement dwindles and doors open that we didn’t even know existed.
If a person fell into icy waters during the winter they took off their clothes and rolled in the snow and rubbed his body with it and got warm. Then they forgot it.
-Pretty Shield, Crow
Well, Steve is working from home today so my schedule will be all messed up. The FB furbabies I visited were all okay. Darling baby picture of Ray and his favorite toy from back then. I hope you have a great Friday Eve. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
On this day in 2014 the mighty St Nicolhas Abbey passed away during surgery for colic. For 6 long months he had battled against injuries and we all felt he had recovered but sadly it was not to be.He showed as much courage at the end of his life as he did on the racecourse.Rest easy brave boy.Always remembered SheenaXOXO
“The heart hath it’s own memory and in it are enshrined the precious keepsakes”
Dear Sheena,
Remembering St. Nicholas Abbey and his brave spirit. RIP SNA
Thanks for the beautiful quote/sentiment, too. Gratefully, our hearts do have unlimited capacity for our precious keepsakes. They are always with us.
Two years gone. How well we remember the courageous fight that Nic waged to live. I think of him often and recall those photos of him bravely standing quietly in his stall. He was a great horse with a lot of heart.
Dear Kathy.Yes I am often tired and overcome by age!!!!I think we all tend to think we are the only ones visiting the doctor or dentist!Heard there were 3 winning lottery tickets in the US.We had a rollover in the UK with 2 tickets winning only one has claimed so far!33 million each.Mango has a pile of post to open and Zoe gets to see Mr Al again today.I haven’t seen Ray yet. There was a heartbreaking photo of a kangaroo cradling his dying mate in the papers today The little Joey was looking on and she stretched out to him in her last minutes.I had to choke back the tears in Tesco. It’s bitterly cold here today but dry and sunny. Was’nt the cat beautiful.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar SheenaXOXO
Dear Judy.Summer has got a big show coming up but she’s only going as a petting cat.I am sure everyone will fall in love with her!Seville has had snow now winter seems to have set in with them.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaXOXO
Oh, I’m sure everyone will definitely be smitten with our Summer. Well, the good news is, Seville’s Winter hopefully with be a short one compared to what they went through last year.

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Wow, you really were up late if you were watching the State of the Union address!

Dear BGG:
Thanks for this great link to all the Derby preps coming up. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
BGG,
Thanks for the post. I just can’t get excited about the colts this year. Think the fillies are more interesting. Last year I was in the Texas Red corner and after him Far From Over as longer shots and AP for a winner. Hope the competition between Songbird and Valentina develops into something special.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)

Dear Shirlee:
So true. The pain of the loss is as great as the joy of the love we have for them. Love and Hugs, JB

Thank you Judy for this article with such warmth. I always hug Fancy and Jo because as a volunteer and the fact that they are older, I may not see one of them again.

Dear Max and Z Fans:
There is a Tiznow colt named Tiznoble entered in the Derby prep LeComte Stakes at Fairgrounds on Saturday. He is a gorgeous Gray and his Dam, Tamboz, is a daughter of Tapit and full sister to Tapizar. This is a replay of his last race on 12/28/15 at Fairgrounds. You have to scroll down to Race 6 to watch the video. He has a lot of competition in the LeComte, but I believe he has a good chance. Love and Hugs, JB

shirleeinindy
Judy,
Thanks for the heads up about this colt. I can’t get into the boys this year and hopefully one will win my heart soon. Of course, the trainers might want to pay me to not like their horses considering my record in the Derby. Had AP but as a second choice I had Upstart who finished last and Vicar the year before who also finished last.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
We’re just getting started with the Derby Preps. Who knows, maybe a certain Red Head will make it an easy choice this year. You never know. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for the link. Tiznoble is a beautiful grey. What outstanding parentage, too! Son of Tiznow and grandson of Tapit (on dam’s side) — impressive to say the least.
Will be following him and hope he stays safe, sound and successful.
Hugs and Love

Dear Marshall:
Yes, great pedigree and so gorgeous. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
That was a real treat. You have the knack for finding talent. As I recall, you were one of the first to identify Chromie as a winner. I also liked that other gray in the race. What a great looking horse.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Thank you for your kind words. So do you with Beastie, Oxbow, Danimal and others.
Yes, the other Gray was very beautiful too. Godspeed to Tiznoble and all the horses; safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB

January 14 Cherokee Devotional

On this day in 2014 the mighty St Nicolhas Abbey passed away during surgery for colic. For 6 long months he had battled against injuries and we all felt he had recovered but sadly it was not to be.He showed as much courage at the end of his life as he did on the racecourse.Rest easy brave boy.Always remembered SheenaXOXO
