Happy Preakness Day!
Zenyatta and her colt got to see Ann and Jerry this week! Alys took photos of their visit, and Mike Cline and Charles Campbell stopped by.
Also, at the end of this post, see a conversation with Ann and Charles about the night of the foaling. They discuss Zenyatta’s inclination towards motherhood and the special bond she shares with her foals.
Enjoy!

I took some pictures of ♥ SWEET BOSS (see my FB page). Karen and I were there for support. Like Karen said, we brought John “good luck” (wink wink). When she got into her closing kick it was almost as exciting as Eblouissante’s maiden win :-) Lots of cheering from us WOO HOO Kudos to Michelle and Steve for helping John get this win! It was great visiting them at Barn 55.

Thanks so much for this post. My current favorite commercial is of a dog greeting its owner apparently back from duty. The dog is huge and the greeting appears to be genuine.

Whew, so much has happened in the past couple of weeks and I don’t even leave for NC until bright( doubtful) and early (for sure) Tuesday morning. I thought I’d better get this in now. I flipped back the pages and read some more NC suggestions: thanks ladies! After I get there, we’ll see what we end up doing, in addition to just hanging out. Regarding Trina’s birthday, it was great to read the poems of Diana, Jeanie and Sally B. Quite clever, and sent to such a wonderful birthday recipient! And Trina, your thank you card to us all was so touching.
Must not forget Karen and her video! I dragged Rod over to the computer (away from TV) so he could expend 1 minutes and 24 seconds of his time watching it. (Not quite KY Derby timing!) He was so impressed he smiled as he watched it.. Seriously, Karen, it was great!
Also, Max, I THINK, really enjoyed that Tiznow video…waiting for his din-din.
And that Bob Baffert quote about the TC, “stay alive a little longer.” Sorry, I can’t remember who(m?) to acknowledge with this one. Senior moment, but I definitely agree with him there!
Onto the present: thanks JSmith for your video links. I was especially taken with the one from CNN. And Diana, thanks for your postings on Judy Glore. These situations, along with the passing of Mr. Kronfeld….so much sadness in such a brief time period.
Preakness notes (already gone over I realize): congrats to Oxbow, Lukas and Stevens (Trina reminded me he is my “honey.” In the mix of it all I had forgotten!)
Terry Crow, was it you who had that exacta? So did Rod. Congrats to all who had that foresight! One of the newspaper headings the day after read, “No Triple Crown due to Oxbow Incident.” Clever.
To end the evening on a pleasant note: thanks to Lane’s End and Team Z for these photos and videos. They pull us together and make us smile.
Everyone have a safe and happy holiday weekend. Most of my Monday will be spent packing. P.S. The refrigerator is fine! Thanks to all for your responses to my story that day. Was that really two weeks ago? Yikes!

Dear Stephanie in SD:
I listened to an interview with Dottie Ingordo Shirreffs and she indicated that Z was or would be bred and that she would leave it to Mr. and Mrs. M. to name the stallion. She said the chosen stallion had many stakes winners. I think Mr. and Mrs. M. will announce when they are sure Z is safely in foal. Hugs, JB

Abigail_1849
I’m wondering if it’s Malibu Moon, since all previous dates have been with sons of A.P. Indy. Failing which, I’m wondering about Smart Strike, Lonhro (if he’s still here) or Distorted Humour — trying to think of “lots of winners” stallions. And John has had at least one pretty decent runner out of After Market. One thing we do know for certain: it won’t be Frankel, Sea The Stars or Galileo….sigh.
DeniseC
Shame it won’t be one of the Euro Champions; surprised
Lanes End has not enticed one of the Euro’s you mentioned
to come to Lanes End for a breeding season???
Think it will be an AP Indy line, guy.
Do you think Lonhro is “too bulky”; he is sure produces
gorgeous runners. Yes, Lonhro is still at Darley and maybe
a become a “US Citizen”.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Abigail:
I was thinking the same; it may be Malibu Moon. Love and Hugs, JB
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
Denise, there is absolutely no reason why Galileo or any similarly successful European stallion should come to the U.S. It is not worth the hassle and uncertainty. They have plenty of customers where they are. Sufficiently motivated North American owners can and do ship their mares to Europe.
DeniseC
Sorry to disagree Laura J,
Why would Pierro, All Too Hard be considered to stand here in the US
at a KY farm and AK standing in US and Australia? Your statement
is very incorrect.
It is perfectly realistic and possible for a Euro Stallion to stand in the US if a contract were negotiated, perhaps that will happen soon. It would save
a huge expense for US TB breeder to send them there and the worry of
the foal left behind and the pregnancy to travel home.
DeniseC
PS:
It would be nice to share all of those wonderful EURO pedigrees
here, no matter how business is for them in the UK. They don’t
breed all year around.

If you saw the CNN video I posted on previous page, here is a photo of the mare & foal that were reunited at Dr. Wiley’s equi hospital after the tornado. The foal had a bad cut, has been treated and will be alright. There are other photo’s with this, you should be able to see them all, they were posted by Red Earth Tack & Feed in OK City who have been doing a fantastic job of co-ordinating donations and volunteer help for animals. What a great event, and happy to see it getting publicity in the Paulick Report. As it’s one thing to retrain off the track thoroughbreds, but if nobody adopts them, not many can get retrained. It’s also important to support events like this, again, if there’s not much of a turn out, why would the organizers bother to spend their time on it. 1000’s of TB’s leave the track every year, many with no safe place to go. Also, you never know who you will see at these events, imagine the suprise of the local So Cal race goers who went to the All TB show in Orange County recently, when a magnificent looking horse took the ring and strutted his stuff perfectly, it was Liberian Freighter!!! A regular on the So Cal tracks for 5 years. He was barely retired for a year and you’d think he’d been in the show ring all his life. Brought a tear to our eyes to see ‘our’ boy doing so well in a second career. :)
I will repost the link in the ‘Discussion’ I made in the Community section, titled Horse/Charity Events Around The Country. Do check that Discussion from time to time, lots of people post events in it, you might find a fun event to attend in your area. Denise C, thanks for posting this I look forward to keeping up with it.

Wonder about Algorithms as a potential suitor. Some wonderful horses have been bred from first crop stallions. He is a son of Bernadini so from AP Indy lines. A pity his race career was cut short would have loved to see him dual with I’ll Have Another.

I just don’t think it would be out of the relm for a few of the Euro Stallions to come here.
Not sure I’m thinking right but wasn’t one of the Euro’s scheduled to come here this year. Oh gosh, can’t think of who it was he was to come to I’m thinking it was something like coming to the Stallion Station. We were talking about this a few months back.
Could it have been Frankel’s brother, Oh my I’m going brain dead. someone if you know, I’ld sure like to remember.

My old BFF just posted that she lost her gelding, Taylor earlier this month to “epm?” What the heck is that?
Janet Newman
it is called Equine Protozoal Myeloencepahalitis and is transmitted through the feces of possums. Horse can ingest it in food, water, grass they eat that is contaminated with it. Causes lesions on the spinal cord and brain stem and diagnosis can be hard since it has similar sign/symptoms of other neurological problems. I do not know how fast it progresses, but prognosis is not good generally.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Just a little note.
Lately with all the horrific things happening, everything I think it’s hurt all of our hearts so badly. The images we have seen the death, destruction not only with humans but with animals as well. With over l00 horses killed as well. I know it’s just hurt my heart so bad I can’t even say.
Just wanted to share, our paster has been talking about the holy spirit lately. About the spirit of God. Do we listen? I have been listening lately
Romans 8 is a wonderful read. Tells how we should listen to the holy spirit. To listen to the holy spirit is life and peace God tells us about everlasting life and nothing can seperate us from the love of God.
A powerful message that can help our hearts if we will let it and bring peace.
Janet Newman
