Happy Thursday!
Our favorite colt has new paddock-mates this week. 12Z and his two best buds joined five other horses in a 40 acre paddock. All are the same age and from the same barn. There are two fillies in the group, and they both like to hang out with the new guys.
Alys sent these pictures for us. She says 12Z is just like his mom, always coming over to check out the camera!
We also wanted to share this video from our visit earlier this month. It was shot early on a gray morning, right after turnout.

There is nothing finer that coming to this site and finding new photos and a video from our firends at LE. I can never get enough of Zenny or her little guy. Are we spoiled? YES, but please don’t stop.
Barbara Brayton
Gosh, they are great. Thanks for all the wonderful pictures, everyone looks happy.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful photos and videos! We are so lucky and you are spoiling us wonderfully!

Ok, I read the insulting comment from what’s his name? Anyways, I used to blog on NTRA for a long time when RA and Zenny were running and wow, some of the comments were way way out there and it would start wars. Of course, I was in the midst of it and then, some friends and I decided to create our own Private Blog with invite only. This small group has become very good friends and that’s how we stay in touch. I don’t blog there anymore because of the nastiness. So, my New rule of thumb is, to ignore them unless, it’s so bad that I have to say something! Then, I’m all over them like flies on …….. LOL
One of the many things I love, love, love about this site is that we were all brought together by the Queen and her Team. Yes, the majority of talk/chat is about Zen and the Prince but, there’s other things out there to learn and share. It’s a diverse group as well. Some have no horse knowledge and are learning and then there are those that have vast knowledge that share and educate. The Patrons of this site have become friends and family. Where else can you get that?

So true. This Z Family is united in the shared love of Z, The Prince and all things horses. Have never been a part of a more caring, loving group of people. So happy I got to know all of you. Hugs, JB

Wow! What great pictures and video! They are all growing up beautifully. And that lush, green grass would be envied by any horse.
@Heidi K.–you are so right about the pleasant times we have here.
I, too, am puzzled about the males and females being turned out together. Maybe it’s only until a certain age?
@TC, GP. I know NOTHING about wine, but the Thunderbird joke was the best!

You might be a redneck if you don’t drink wine any more ever since you got the cap caught in your teeth.

Getting a hair cut and donating almost eleven inches to children suffering from hairloss. Today is a big day! I hope it turns out well as first day of my senior year is Monday, and my hair won’t grow out that fast if something goes wrong. LOL
Ann
Wow, Pati, great you are helping those children.
Good luck on Monday, seems to be the same here, for our county.
Things will be just fine…w/ your good karma, everything will be coming up roses for you!
Enjoy your senior year….I wish I could do it all over again w/ my kids, really! Yes, I just said that. Ha! Have a fun year ,mixed in there w/ hard work, I know college is calling for ya.

Hoofray for you, Pati! That’s a great thing you did. I’m sure your hair looks good shorter. Best of luck on your first day of school Monday!

Pati, what a wonderful thing to do for those in need. The beauty of your spirit will shine for all to see!
Max
Pati. This is a good thing that you are doing for others.
Do not worry about your shorter hair. Duct tape is quite useful for making wigs. LOL.

Max…….LOL,don’t forget the dippity doo and Zenny would help w/ any hair tips!

Good for you, Pati. That’s a great donation.Make lots of good memories this school year.

Pati or should it be “Pixie Pati”:
Short hair in in! You will be every girls envy! Just saw something on an entertainment show that ALL the “young Hollywood stars” are cutting their hair short! And changing the color too! I have thought about doing it myself, and am still considering it. This maybe the extra push I need so “Thank You”! Everyone keeps telling me long hair is out, and short is in, so that means your in girlfriend!
I am sure you look absolutely adorable, or glamorous, take your pick!
I hope my next statement doesn’t offend you, but I can’t believe your only a senior in High School, I thought you were older, you have such maturity that most 17 or 18 yr old’s don’t have. Most girls your age are so very selfish and self absorbed, they never think of anyone else besides themselves. I’m sure your mother is so very proud of you, you are a rare breed! You are truly and inspiration to young girls, and the younger will see that.
Totally impressed and admirable.

Have been a little “blue” this week with all the news of the 3 year-olds being injured and/or retired…kind of discouraging….BUT pictures of 12Z and friends make for a wonderful cure! I hope he’ll always be safe and happy!

Here is a link to a video of Tasty Temptation winning the Wonder Where, which is the third leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara. There are some very good shots of Tasty as she comes “out of the clouds” to win. The man at the end of the race in the suit in the winner’s circle is her trainer, Mark Casse. He trains a lot of horses for LE connections.

Great Link, Max.
TT is a real career woman !!!!
Max
Sign. It is pretty amazing how she comes from so far back to win. Like Z. No wonder that they get along so well.
Tasty is Ontario bred which may explain why Bill Farish based her career at Woodbine. She could then be entered in some good stakes races for Canadian bred horses, such as the Wonder Where. She was running on turf in that one, but I think tht she mostly ran on poly.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Oh, Thanks Max for the explaination.
Bill Farish has horses from around the world, and to have a Canadian
Champion like TT, even though she has skipped out on her motherly
duties, is a feather in his hat !!!
Terry Crow GP
Considering the early fractions, it was a remarkable run.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Great video Max! How nice to see Tasty T actually run. She looked so much darker in the video than in the photos we’ve seen from Lane’s End (???). I guess she and Zenny could really compare notes about their “come from behind” adventures.

OMG, what a treat, we are sure getting spoiled here with all these posts coming within days of each other. LE is spoiling us for sure……..but don’t tell them I said that, don’t want it to stop. Hope mama Zen is just as happy with her girlfriends gossiping about old babies and those on the way.
Wanted to say how sorry I am for Dr Hansen, and our beautiful boy being injured and retiring. If ever there was a guy who didn’t seem to care about studding them out so soon it was him. He is an assent to the sport, bringing enthusiasm and fun back to racing. It’s really sad.
Congrats to the great Frankel on his glorious win…….he is very special. Hope he stays healthy.
Terry Crow, you never cease to amaze me, the jokes crack me up again, hubby comes into the den and says what in the world are you laughing at? Also I’m wondering who you really are that you have led such an interesting life and met all these famous people, and know all the old horses so well……..are you the son of a famous movie star, or director? My life has been so boring compared to yours! Love to read the stories you tell as well as the jokes.
Have made my fantasy picks for the Travers, I’ve got to win big, I’m saving up to buy HDG when they put her on the block. If breeders here let her go to Japan…….they’re nuts! Anyone who wants to chip into the pot…….feel free.
Kisses to my beautiful Zenny and your stunning son EARnie.

My mother knew a lot of famous people through her association with the Westmore family, a group of male hairdressers who did hair and make-up for several of the movie studios. She did own and race a few horses, but got out of the business when her trainer was murdered. Anything I know and have observed over a long lifetime I owe to her.
Keta
Terry,
Westmore was one of the big names in the day.
Remember the name on the silver screen;
The murder must have been terrible for your Mother.
She must have been so proud of you–watching you grow into such a grounded & funny person.
Hugs, Keta

Thank you, Lanes End, for these incredible pictures and video. Z12 and his buddies are just precious. I love to watch them romping in the field. Too sweet!

With the upcoming Zenyatta Stakes (formerly Ladies Secret) quickly approaching, I thought it appropriate to post this video. I was lucky enough to be at almost all of the Queen’s California races and this was one of them. The noise from the crowd in the video is loud, but in person it was that loud multiplied by 10. You literally could not hear the person next to you even if they were screaming directly in your ear.
Shari Voltz: I thought maybe your new class would be interested in watching Zenyatta do her job and do it well. I have all of her races on tape, but this is one of my favorites. I wonder if they have shown it to the Prince?

Thank you so much Rosemary,
Still makes me cry, still makes me smile, still gives me goosebumps, and always will.

How appropriate you posted the Lady’s Secret, which is now the Zenyatta. I’m not sure but I think this was the last race before the 2010 BCC.
Rosemary McCauley - Pres/AZ/New Mexico RNC
Terry, you are correct. It was her last race before the 2010 BC and her last race in California. The atmosphere this day at the track was even more electric than usual and as usual, she was breathtaking.
Ann
Thanks Rosemary B. for sharing that story w/ us. I bet being there was a blast!

I remember that day well. You could always find John S down with the normal folks before the race was run. After that, of course, he had business to take care of in the winner’s circle.
Pati- Heavy Hearted
It looks like life doesn’t enjoy it too much when I am happy. My teddy bear hamster named Sammi, she passed on today. She was only with us for two years. We did our best to make her comfortable ad spoil her rotten, but she never acted the part of a spoiled hamster. She was kind, and a really beautiful creature of nature. She would waddle when she walked because we also tended to give her lots of fruits and vegetables which she dearly loved. But the most one can hope for is that she died comfortable and she did. She died an old lady; warm in her bed. She never needed and she had everything she could ever ask for, and still, I can’t help but miss her. Her curiousity and joy with the world was a beautiful thing to see, and she taught a simple lesson. Love everything you have and hamster it away, but always cherish it.. We buried her in the softest paper towels we had, and she is now laying peacefully under the large fir tree in our backyard. She deserved nothing less. I also pet her one last time before I wrapped her up, and that will be one last touch I will always cherish. She is safe now. Away from dogs that could dig her up, and away from the harsh light to burn her pretty skin. She will be sorely missed, and I have a large aching hole in my heart that one doesn’t think an animal as small as a hamster could leave, but she did. She was perfect in everyway, and she died in a dignified way. She fell asleep, and just didn’t wake up.Though I didn’t get to hold her yesterday, I will always remember her as the active, bright little orange and white ball of fur, running around in her little ball. I got the honor of placing her in her resting place, and I cried quietly to myself as my father covered her with dirt. I don’t like it when people see me cry, but Sammi was special and she deserved every tear. And now I must face tomorrow without her, my beautiful, special Sammi. I still have her birth certificate on my wall, and there it will stay. How I loved that teddy bear hamster. Rest In Peace, dear Sammi. You are dearly dearly missed and forever loved. I only wish you could live forever.

Pati: I feel for your loss of a dearly loved little friend. I just know though, that your Sammi is being welcomed to Heaven by my beloved standard poodle, Reynolds, and my rescued goose, Rupert (among others). Pati Brokenhearted:
I am not trying to one up you in any way 5yrs ago I took one of our barn cats home that had lived at the barn of all of her 16 yrs (since she was a kitten). She was attacked by one of the instructor’s dog, he ripped her open from her neck all the way down to her tail (stomach area). My boss and I took her to the vet and he said there was nothing he could do, he couldn’t even stitch her up, he instructed us that she could no longer live at the barn, the only home she’s ever known, we had 2 choices put her to sleep or find her a home. Who would take a 16yr old cat, who basically wasn’t boxed trained (since the indoor rink was her BIG potty box!) All of my fellow co-workers had dogs, which she now was deathly afraid of…..I on the other hand I had 2 cats! The vet said she was going to die within a week maybe 2 and they discovered she had an enlarged heart. Well……..as you have probably guessed I took her home, I created a sterile environment (per the Vet’s suggestion) fed her by hand and did all I could. To my surprise one day she was up moving around (slowly) and ready to mingle. She became my couch buddy, every nite she would curl up with me on the couch while I watched T.V. or read. I know a lot of people don’t like cats, but she was the sweetest, kindest, cutest little lady you have ever met. And oh that face, was adorable even at the age of 21! On March 11th of this year she died in my arms, I knew it was coming, she stopped eating and drinking and she barely moved around. Even though I knew the end was near, I wasn’t prepared, I guess you never are. I cried for about 5 days, we buried her in the front yard under her favorite tree, I was afraid to bury her in the back too close to the woods, I didn’t want anything digging her up. I understand your pain and profound sadness, I was lucky to have my Marbes (her real name was Marbles, because she looked like marble cake!) for 5 years, and I know she was happy, spoiled and very well cared for, and that’s what I am most proud of.
It is so very hard to let a friend go, especially a trusted one, but remember your Sammi had the best life she could have had with you, and she die peaceful and knowing she was loved.
With a very heavy heart for you
