Happy New Year Zenyatta Fans!
We hope everyone had a joyous holiday season filled with friends and family. As you may have noticed, Team Z took some time off to celebrate and to make plans for the coming year. We’ve been dreaming up blog features, new Zenyatta products, and eagerly anticipating the birth of Zenyatta’s third foal.
In the meantime, Zenyatta and 13Z have been greeting the winners of our Zenyatta.com Celebration drawing with enthusiasm. We’ll share Alys’ photos from these visits in a future blog post.
Before the holidays we asked you to show us how you’re using your Celebration Stickers. A few of our favorite submissions are below. Thanks Susan, Mary Ellen, Pam, and Cathleen for your photos!
We always welcome feedback from the fans. Send photos of your Zenyatta products in use or suggestions for the future to fans@zenyatta.com. We can’t reply to every email, but we do read everything!
We approach the new year with a sense of gratitude for this loving community. We’re excited to see what this year will bring, and we hope you are too!
-Team Z

Hello Zenyatta and Happy New Year. I see that you are still doing as good as ever. I have not been on Face Book for awhile now so I have a lot of catching up to do and I will. I am sending you my love and many best wishes for the New Year 2014. You always looks so great in all your pictures and I will be watching to see how all is going with you as the year progresses. I see that you still like to dance and I love it because that is so like you. I know that you will always stay the sweet Zenyatta that you are and I will always love you dearly.

Huge Congratulations to Wise Dan and all his Connections
Great horses in this category, but so happy for you Dan
Congrats to Wiseman’s Ferry & Lisa Daniele
Max
Peggy. Looks like your favorite Wiseman’s Ferry is finally coming into his own. Lisa Danielle is a blue hen for sure. Hope that her upcoming fillies do her proud in the new season as well as the Dans. I would like to see Successful Dan get a grade 1, and Wise Dan keep rolling up the victories.

Dear Max Huge congratulations to Wise Dan HOY!!! Enjoy!Hugs Sheena

Congratulations to our Top turf female Dank! Good wishes to Sir Michael Stoute and all connections.Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Dank’s owner gave a nice acceptance speech on her behalf at the Eclipse awards. He wants her to run again next year in the US. She’s a beauty, but why give that name to her?
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Great win for Dank Sheena. I couldn’t watch the awards so didn’t see the speech Max notes above, but she sure looked great in the BC!! High Hoof to her and all of her connections.

We have to actively resist the suggestion that something is going to make us sick. It is not easy to talk illness and poverty without believing strongly that we may have to deal with them. The easiest way is to cancel negative suggestions and claim what we want. Money, which is a de la in Cherokee, will run for cover if we continually talk hardship-and we know what happens when someone tells us we do not look well. We begin to take our pulse and wonder whether we should lie down. Too much sympathy and self-pity destroys our immunity to difficulty. When we shut down on it and begin to talk health and begin to talk about excellent opportunities, then we open the way to be well and prosperous.
They came to you under the guise and pretense…and gained your confidence…they are enemies of you and your band, instead of friends.

Congratulations to all the Eclipse Awards winners and their connections. And also to all the wonderful horses who were in the running but alas didn’t win. There just weren’t enough awards/

Wonderful tribute to Elsa on today’s Horse and Man blog:
http://www.horseandman.com.
Just the right words.
Kathy
Dear Barbara,
Yes! A perfect tribute. God bless her little soul. She is no longer in pain, content, and running free for all time.
Janet Newman
Barbara,
Cannot see through my tears. Very touching article. I prefer to think of her running free in Heaven and not the way she was found.
God Bless hose who gave her love and comfort until she chose to leave this world behind for a much better place.

I know we should always strive to forgive. I do hope God has a special place in hell for those who abuse children and animals. How they can do this, I just don’t understand.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Rest in peace and comfort little Elsa. So glad that she knew some very kind people at the end.
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Sandy,
That is just exactly what I was thinking — God bless those kind people who gave her such gentle, constant love. RIP little Elsa

Good morning Zen Family, Zenny & boys!
I’ll need to keep poking my head in & out here for a bit I’m afraid. My mum isn’t doing well and although she’s not critical, she does have acute leukaemia and it means a lot of constant running around. Thank goodness I have my Zen family and THE VAULT and my art to keep me grounded and to help me along.
With the ECLIPSE Awards fresh in everyone’s mind, I thought I’d add this — VERY IMPRESSIVE — tidbit.
SECRETARIAT appears within 5 generations (where his influence can still be felt) of almost all of this year’s winners, specifically: Wise Dan, Royal Delta, Beholder, Shared Belief, Will Take Charge and She’s A Tiger!
So much for the theory that Secretariat didn’t do his job @ stud!!!!
Max
Abigail. In Wise Dan’s case, Secretariat is on both sides of his pedigree, as is Northern Dancer. Throw in Wolf Power, and you have a racing freak. Go Danny!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks as always for another very interesting horse fact. I had never heard that Secretariat “didn’t do his job, ” but for those who thought that . . . . “HA!”
Thinking of you and your family Abigail.
Max
The observation about Secretariat by experts is not misplaced. Secretariat produced no sire line to carry on his brilliance. He has however had considerable breeding success through the generations as Abigail has pointed out from his daughters such as Terlingua who was not only a good racer in her own right, but was the mother to the remarkable Storm Cat. Storm Cat’s father is Storm Bird, a son of Northern Dancer.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Max. I’m trying hard to rise above “clueless” but it’s going to take a long time.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Max, thanks, I also wondered at the reasoning behind it.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Abigail and Z Fans:
You’re so right. The Big Red legacy is carried in COZ and Little Big Red too and Northern Dancer’s legacy in the new baby. Oh, the possibilities. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Abigail,
Thanks for this information. Best wishes to you and your mother.
Take care! Hugs

I hope I am not to far behind. I just found 36 photos of visitors with Zenny and the Red Prinze. They are under the Photo tab. They are really nice. It looks like everyone had a Zentastic visit. Including Zenny and her big boy!
Stay warm everyone

Zenny is the Hostess with the mostest.
Wonderful photos.
Thanks , Sue. Nice seeing all of the smiles. Lucky folks!

These photos prove our Zenny hasn’t lost one once of her charm! She thrives on attention as does our Red Prince. Lucky folks, indeed. Talk about creating memories…there are plenty of those in these pictures.
Max
Very nice photos. Z looks beautiful and regal as ever. 13Z is a big guy for his age. Love those white socks.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
OMG! It’s the REST of us who are “behind.” Had NO idea those photos had been posted. They are absolutely TERRIFIC. Just imagine BEING there and getting to pet Zenny and the Little Red Prince (I still think Tap ‘N Zee should be the name)!!!! What a wonderful experience for those lucky folks. Zenny looks charming as always – so cute with that little girl. Thanks for the “heads up” Sue!!! :-)
Sue/FlCPRC
I am glad you all like them.
Zenny looks very happy she loves people I wish Team Z would consider more visits. I think 1 a month would be a start.
I would also like to see visits with the kids allowed.
Coz and his brother Red PrinZe have there moms heart they must love people too.
Just a suggestion Team Z more visits please.

Yip yip yippee to all winners last night.
Am happy for all, especially my chestnuts with their blazes! Ya see that, Z13, sweet boy!
Will never forget that Firecracker win and Classic, incredible.
Love, hugs and prayers to all.
Zenny, hope you are staying warm and cozy.
@Sally MacB-good job with the H2O. You are a horsey hero.
Max
Ann NC. The women who snapped that photo of Dan running in the rain in the Firecracker won an Eclipse for it. Dan looked fantastic in that photo. Go Danny!f

JudyB. That’s it! I like the way Dan runs like he’s completely on his own with no need of any jockey. He also always takes a quick look to his right to the crowds in the grand stand on his way to victory as if he’s saying: watch this. He’s totally amazing!
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Judy B.,
Thanks bunches for posting this Eclipse-winning photo of magnificent Dan!

Thanks, JB and Max. Glad that great photo was given credit.
That Firecracker win will stick with me forever, thanks Danny!

What an amazing shot!! That sharp foreground against the blurred background is really something (I’d never be able to do that in a million years). Thanks for finding it Judy :-)

Thanks, Judy. I watched it, but that photo went by so fast.

@Ann in NC
Here’s hoping! Really would love some of the white stuff — remember that “yours truly” wants to be able to sing “It’s a Marshmallow World” and walk my canines in the beautiful soft snow; although, no one can sing that song like ol’ Dean Martin. I miss you, Dino!

Almost forgot!
If you’re on FACEBOOK, here’s the fabulous (“amateur”) photography of Brit TOBY CONNORS, beginning with MOOSIE!!!! (Go forward to find several other Mad Moose shots.) I’ve corresponded with Toby & used his photos when I wrote about SPRINTER SACRE last year. As long as you don’t try to sell them, he’s quite happy if you want to download any of his amazing photos.

Hope your mom’s health improves.

MAX: FREE THE MOOSE is dead right! Glad you liked Toby’s photos. Here’s another place to look at his stuff and, like I said, he told me he posts them for fans to download. His photos of FRANKEL are astounding…but everything he does is great.

JudyB. Unfortunately the BHA has not yet relented. The Moose is still banned. I wish that his peeps would give him a rest and bring him back next fall. I read that the ban was for 9 months only. Tidal Bay is still on the jumps at 13 years and is doing well. Free the Moose! Neigh!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
I misread your post; thought he was being allowed back in 10 days. Now I see you meant his ban has already reached 10 days.
Another Senior Brain Freeze. Seems I’m having them more and more lately. Sorry. Love and Hugs,JB

Dear Max Must have been a wonderful night for you with WD winning, I have no idea who came up with such a drab name for a horse such as Dank!!Made me wish Frankel was a gelding at least we’d still be seeing him!Great pic of the Moose he’s really quite a handsome boy he tweeted Sire de Grugy he wishes he could be at the Cheltenham festival to add to the entertainment SDG’s twitter followers are rising too after his win on Saturday. Free the Moose!Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Dank is an odd name choice for such a brilliant filly. Her vote count in the Eclipse was quite remarkable, no competition. Here’s hoping that she’s back to racing this year with her usual form. Her owner was really well spoken in his remarks, a real gentleman. You’d be proud.
I saw Moosie’s comments to SDG. Moose is such a great character. He’s now lending support to helping find missing people. His followers rise. Be sure to check out Abigail’s post. The Moose looks magnificent in those photos. Check out Big Buck’s grooming too. Really good.
The Fly races next Sunday. Mullins says that The Fly is ready.
Max
For those who do not know Dank, here she is, a real beauty. Her support team is all female.

Kathy
Thanks, Max. What a GORGEOUS horse!!!
Max
Dank appears to have inherited her elegant head from her grand sire, Danehill. He had a calm temperament unlike his father Danzig, who was very intense as were most of Northern Dancer’s sons. She also seems to like eating. Danehill loved his food.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Oh, she’s elegant looking. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, JB
Ann NC
Thanks, Max and congrats to that beauty and her team.
Dank, will call you, Ms. Dankalicious. Eat away sweet girl!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks for the great picture Max. I was so happy that she won because she was very far behind in the fans’ vote. Turns out it wasn’t even close. Love the spiffed up name Ann!
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
LoL, Sheena, I thought the same thing when I first heard the name Dank. There’s no accounting for taste. Thankfully, she does not match her name, “so there!”

Dear Max
I am so glad to see Wiseman’s Ferry getting recognition. Still think he should get more.
He’s such a gorgeous boy. Maybe we will see some more really good offspring come from him. I so hope we do.
Go Wise Dan & Successful Dan in 20l4.
Hope Lisa Daniele will have a few more great foals. I know she’s getting on up there in age isn’t she. Hope there’s a few more.
Max
Peggy. Hate to have to tell this to you. Lisa Danielle lost her foal about a week ago. She is okay however. Morton Fink has retired her from breeding.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max
No, I had not heard that. Oh, I’m so sorry. I am glad she is OK. So sorry she lost the foal. All this is just so fragile isn’t it.
It’s probably good Mr. Fink retired her now.
Sure hope Dan’s Daddy stay’s safe and has a long life. I’ll hope for many more foals from him.
Max
Peggy. Morton Fink will take care of her. He kept her as his only brood mare because she’s named after his grand daughter. Here’s to a long and happy retirement for her. She certainly deserves it.
Wiseman’s Ferry has another good racer called Riding the River. He races out of Woodbine and is trained by Dave Cotey. He’s the guy who was the first trainer of Mine That Bird. Small world.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Sheena
Congratulations for Dank.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max Lovely pic of Dank Girl power!!! Toby Connors certainly realises the pulling power of the Moose in the UK beautiful photos of all the horses . Did’nt realise the Fly was running again before the festival,am nervous for Big Bucks he’s been off the track over a year and now has the Moose’s jockey on board.Wonderful to see Zenyatta and 13Z greeting their visitors he’s getting redder! Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Dank’s like The Fly with female grooms. Dan had a female exercise rider and grooms while he was at Woodbine. He cooperated and seemed to like it. Moose wants in on this too with a female jockey. Might be a trend? According to those photos, his groom is a woman.
Don’t worry. Sam should do well with BB. Apparently Paul chose him because Darryl did not have much enthusiasm for the ride. According to Paul, Darryl wants to ride only the younger horses.
The Fly’s going for another record at Leopardstown. He’s closing in on Istabraq. That Fly is relentless.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max Yes I read about Daryl Jacobs.I had really hoped Ruby would have kept the ride on Bucks, they knew each other so well.We will find out on Saturday and of course if Buck’s is as good. The ground should suit the Fly Ireland’s had as much rain as us if not more.Free the Moose! Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Young Sam will do the job. The none running of the Moose was not his fault. Sam also showed courage beyond his years in defending the Moose in public against the BHA. BB is a classy horse and has come back before from long lay offs. He might be like Dan and he won’t care who rides. My bet is that anyone could have won with Frankel. These first class horses know exactly what they are doing, or in Moosie’s case, what they are not doing.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max As they say over here any jockey can ride a good horse except the Moose that is. As you know the British have a soft spot for the underdog.Hugs Sheena

Just reading through the blog and gotta say I don’t know who this Moosie is and saw some mention of his photos but the pictures of Zenny with her fans and 13Z are the ones that I think are really outstanding. I can’t imagine what it would be like to spend time with Zenny and get a tour of LE. Seeing 13Z would top it all off. Team Z has shown over and over again how they appreciate the fans and they continue to be the standard all owners and handlers. The photo of Zenny with her head on the fan’s shoulder while the lucky lady
is taking a pic. is one in a million.
