We all appreciate very much what Dottie has created, bringing the voice of Zenyatta to her multitude of fans. We can also appreciate just how much work went into completing over a year’s worth of daily dairy entries, describing from November 1, 2010 the transition of a tremendous race horse to becoming a broodmare and, today, a successful one with a healthy colt by her side. For all of this we are grateful. Grateful, as always, for being blessed with owning this great mare since she was a yearling. Grateful for the treatment and training she received form John Shirreffs, Mike Smith and the great people at Barn 55. Grateful for all the terrific people at Lane’s End Farm, her current care-takers, doing what they do everyday for Zenyatta.
And certainly grateful to Dottie, our racing manager, who emerged to describe Zenyatta’s thoughts as if she could write them herself.
Well done Zenyatta!
And well done, Dottie!
With this website, we will do our best to continue to inform you of what’s happening in Zenyatta and her colt’s lives. Stories of interest will be published periodically with photos and news flashes as the events dictate. It probably won’t make up for the daily Diary that told her story so very well, but in the meantime, we hope you will continue to enjoy Zenyatta.com. We appreciate how much this community means to Zenyatta’s fans just as we appreciate how much all of you mean to her.
With gratitude,
Ann & Jerry Moss

Thank you so much, Mr. and Mrs. Moss, for calming our ruffled feathers about the daily diary. I always wondered how Dottie found the time to put together such a great entry every day and I’m amazed she was able to do it for so long, so I truly understand that it was time to “change the format”, so to speak. A periodic update of Zenyatta’s life and some pictures will be great so that we can keep up with her and not lose touch completely. Thanks for sharing her with us!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping the fans updated so long. Your entire team has done so much for the sport and I admire you knowing how much must have gone into your efforts. Zenyatta has brought a lot of joy into our world, and you have been her “voice.” May many blessings be granted to all those involved.
Judy from South Carolina
Dear Ann and Jerry,
I am sure you are dizzy from reading by now but please accept ONE MORE gracious thanks for WHO you are and WHAT you have done and CONTINUE to do for the sport.
And your brilliance in entrusting JOHN, not only with our beautiful QUEEN, but with so many of your other fine Thoroughbreds is a partnership that I hope will continue for many, many years to come. HE is the BEST and I intently follow each and every horse that you own that he trains for you.
All of that being said, I am sure I speak for everyone here in thanking you from the bottom of my heart for allowing us to feel like we have been an actual living part of ZENYATTA since she roared into the racing world. I know that you will keep us updated as best you can and we look forward to all of Zennie’s future babies!
WE LOVE YOU ZENYATTA! SEE YOU SOON!
Jeanie
Dear Z’isters,
Yesterday I felt our connectedness was coming to an end. Now that I see this change more clearly, I can see a future for us to continue to rally around what we all hold dear: Zenyatta, her foal, her connections, Thoroughbreds, welfare of our beloved horses and racing updates.
I will still miss hearing from the Great One on a daily basis. I can only use that term for her, so you won’t see it here — it is only for HER.
Ann and Jerry Moss, Dottie and John, Barn 55 and the Lane’s End crew have all treated us with such respect and warmth. In the history of racing, I don’t think any owners have ever done so much for their horse’s fans. We all appreciated that, and I think yesterday was really hard losing a part of that, the most accessible part for most of us.
I sure will miss HER, but I know her life has changed and she can’t be in the public eye to the extent that she once was. She’s a farm girl now, living in the bucolic blue grass of Kentucky. I hope we see and hear from her from time to time. (I’m watering up right now as I write this) and always have a way to know she and her foal(s) are doing good!
How about a Zenyatta webcam? That would help!
Thank you,
Jeanie

Holy Cow!! I know that the little one has to be weaned but he’ll be separated from his mother then, too??? The bond they’re creating will be altered that soon? all the happiness that we’ve been waiting for seems overshadowed now with disappointment that somehow we’ll have to accept.
Needless to say, the Mosses are wonderful parents to Zenyatta and nothing could ever be better for her than everything they have always provided for her, affection, devotion, security and safety, and love.
Ann, you’re a “cool mom,” too.

Thank you Ann and Jerry Moss, the Shirreffs, Mike Smith, Mario and family, Barn 55 and Lane’s End staff, and all of Team Z for this exceptional experience over the years. I doubt I shall see another like her in my lifetime, and how fortunate to have had you share Zenyatta with us. Also thank you for the Carousel at LA Zoo, forever a Zenyatta, Tiago, Giacomo, the coming statue at Santa Anita, the figurine, the portrait, the hats, the T-shirts, the posters, and the pictures and fan news. By showing Zenyatta’s career and life at Lane’s End, you have educated so many and shown how it should be done.

Mr. and Mrs. Moss,
Thank you so very much for your letter to all of Zenyatta’s fans.
She will never be forgotten even though there will no longer
be daily posts, but just knowing that there will be updates
now and then I can look forward to seeing, hearing what is
going on with her and her precious baby.
Blessings to you and all who were involved with THE QUEEN OF RACING.
Much love always.
Maureen
I am sorry to read that the Diary Postings will no longer be available. We all have come to love and identify with the beautiful Zenyatta, her team, owners, trainers, etc. Thank you Ann & Jerry Moss and Dottie for the wonderful posting.
I hope you will reconsider and at least post a brief diary and picture once a week or even biweekly. We love seeing pictures of the great Zenyatta and now her wonderful colt. The posting doesn’t have to be nearly as detailed as in the past; pictures are more important to me showing the growth progress of the colt and momma’s care for him.
Donna from Baltimore
I am also sad to see the daily posts go, but I am inexpressably grateful for the time and effort Dottie and the rest of Team Z put into sharing Queen Z and her prince with us.
You guys are class personified. Zenyatta learned from the best – her team.

Thank you Ann and Jerry for your letter to us. We all understand that the Diary was time consuming and probably challenging for Dottie to do 5 days a week. But she did such a marvelous job, we were a little spoiled LOL! We all want what is best for all of you too. You certainly deserve it. So when you can post somthing that will be great. In the meantime, I know Zenny and the Prince are in the very best and most loving hands. That’s the bottom line for me. We know you will update us when there is news. As you can see, she has been important to alot of us, and for some, she has helped them get through very difficult times. Her never give up attitude was inspirational for all of us. Thank you again for your letter. I wish you all the best of luck in your future racing endeavors. I will follow them with a hopeful heart for you, John and Dottie.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Moss,
I’m not sure what to say as so many have already echoed my thoughts and feelings. Thank you doesn’t seem enough, but I know you understand what this whole “ride” has meant to us. Zenyatta has been such a joy in our lives, day in and day out, thanks to another amazing woman, Dottie. It has been a privilege to be part of this rare and wonderful glimpse into your magnificent Zenyatta’s life, all the way to her first foal. Thank you so much.
Like most, I fell in love with Zenny the first time I saw her race. I was so stupid – I cried because she was “last” and I prayed to God that he would let her finish at least 5th. LOL I didn’t know how she raced, and that “last” was just her letting the other horses feel good for a few seconds before she passed them all! She never let me down, no, not ever. Her spirit made my heart soar with gladness each time I saw her, and meeting her in person, with her gaze deep into my soul, will forever be one of my most cherished moments.
God bless all of Team Z for everything. For Zenny’s excellent care then and now (including mini Z), and in the future, for allowing us to share her with you. I will continue to delight in all things Zenyatta. After all, who doesn’t delight in Angels?
Many thanks,
Love, Margie

Mr. and Mrs. Moss~ Thank you for not taking Zenyatta and her baby away from us completely. We always have something to be thankful for.
DOTTIE~ Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you have done for us the past 16 months. I think you created “monsters’ who have an insatiable appetite for ALL Things Zenyatta!
Love Always and Forever

…I am sad beyond words. I have to say, I did not see this coming. I was counting down the days until Zenyatta would foal…and now..just when that special foal comes, the Diary ends.
On the other hand, I suppose I understand the reason of why it is ending. I can imagine how much work it is to come up with new topics every day, but couldn’t there be a weekly Diary with Z and foal updates?
Thank you to ALL of Team Zenyatta and those who have made this website possible.
Love, Katie(future jockey)
<3 We love you Zenyatta <3

Not much more to be said than has already been said. Will miss the diary posts but totally understand—- Thank you to all of Team Z for allowing us to share in Zenyatta’s transition from racing to mommy-hood. Will be looking forward to the updates and pictures as they are posted—– I think it is probably a good thing to distance us a little bit. Some of us get a little nuts over Zenny. LOL She is there, happy and healthy and enjoying a wonderful spring…..and life goes on, for her, her baby and for every one of us. It has been a wonderful ride.

Mr. and Mrs. Moss,
What a privilege every day that you shared Zenyatta with us. She inspired us in our daily lives Thank you so much for the time with Zenny.
Dottie, thank you for all your time and energy that you have given to Z’s fans, it was truly appreciated.
Thank you all that we will still be involved in Z’s life, maybe not on a daily basis, but we still will have something to look forward to.
Life does go on and we will accept it, thank you for all the memories.
We appreciate everything you have done for us, we all LOVE ZENYATTA.

Mr. and Mrs. Moss……thank you so very much for allowing all of us to share this beautiful mare. Ann….the joy on your face while laying in the hay with babyZ and
Queen Z was very special. I have been lucky enough to share that feeling with my big chestnut mare aka ANGEL when she delivered her first foal. It is truly a moment to savor.
We will look forward to the updates on Queen Z and little z. Thank you again.
Crystal
I know I rarely commented on the diary, but I loved being able to read it when I could.
Thank you so much Jerry, Anne and Dottie. For letting a bunch of complete strangers into yours, and Zenyatta’s, lives. The effort put into it by everyone involved was very appreciated. ^^

***HOW TO SET UP ‘GOOGLE ALERTS’ ON YOUR COMPUTER******
This is so easy… Go to Google.com/alerts, in the top space type in ZENYATTA, then click on the rest of the tabs in the dialog box to let Google know how often and what you want to be informed of where ever Zenyatta’s name us presented on the web. I believe we are going to love , love, love, this. Also, you can go to Youtube.com and type in Google Alerts and you will find a treasure trove of tutorials on there that will show you and explain how the Google Alerts work.
The good news is even if you don’t have a google.com email account they will send the info to any email account.

ZENYATTA IS A NATIONAL TREASURE — not just Horse of the Year and three time champion.
As aficionados of Greco- Roman Civilization, we have always thought of her as an Equine Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, Courage and Battle. Her blaze is Zeus’ thunderbolt emblazoned as she sprung out of her father’s forehead. She is the ultimate composite of physical beauty, intelligence, charm and great athleticism.
How fortunate we were to ‘discover’ her early in her career — at the 2008 El Encino Stakes. We were overwhelmed by her performance that day and followed her career thereafter missing only her two Apple Blossom races. We made many visits to Barn 55 for almost three years watching her gallop and workout, get her morning bath, kissing her muzzle and receiving her kisses in return. Needless to say, we fell totally in love with her.
We knew early on that we would never see another like her. How fortunate we were to “Experience Zenyatta.” We will be forever grateful to Ann, Jerry, John, Dottie and the rest of Team Zenyatta in California and Kentucky for making this possible.

@Carolyn–I’ve been doing this for our Baylor Lady Bears for years, so I can just as easily do it for Zenyatta. Why didn’t I think of that??

A big “high hoof” to Dottie and her team. You brought a very special Mare into our lives, and we will never forget her beautiful spirit. As long as we continue to receive those updates – we will be content. One more big Thank You to John Sherriffs, Steve Williard, Mario, and the whole team at Barn 55 for opening it up to us fans of Zenyatta. It was so incredible to see her in person and actually stroke her neck! I will never forget that day in November 2011 – right before she left for Lane’s End. It was magical – just like Queen Zenyatta.
Hugs and Love,

In the beginning I was a Rachel fan. Loved her and her jockey, Calvin Borel(such a character)! And then he won the Derby, too! Not too long after that I started babysitting my new granddaughter for a year until she was old enough to go to daycare. They had HRTV and TVG on sattelite so I watched tha all the time. The guys on there kept talking about Zenyatta but I didn’t know who she was. Then they carried one of her races on tv. The first time I saw her I thought something was wrong. One of the commentators did, too, But I think it was Jerry Bailey said that was just her little dance that she always does. What a relief!! I have been in love with that horse ever since. I was kinda relieved that Zenyatta and Rachel never faced each other. Nothing ever good comes out of match races.

Thank you so much, Team Zenyatta, for these updates! Yes, we will all miss the diary, but this allows us to keep in touch and still be able to keep up with Z and her foal a bit. Again, thank you!
Barbara
Thank you to all involved! It was awesome and most appreciated! Best of luck to you all, Zenny and her boy, everyone! Best regards, Barbara

Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful, fabulous, Zenny with us all. Looking forward to seeing all the news about her and THE PRINCE.

Nine times do the Mosses mention words such as “gratitude” and “appreciate” in this post. I once had a wonderful English teacher who was fond of saying, “Write—that I might see thee.” Ann and Jerry Moss have painted a very clear picture of who they are through their choice of words. What I see are two extraordinary people who, in blessing others, are they themselves blessed. I feel grateful to be alive with them in the same world.

Beautifully stated, Cynthia!
