Happy Friday!
While we were at Lane’s End at the beginning of the month, we spent time dreaming up ways to share the experience with all of you.
Zenyatta and her colt enjoy life on one of the most beautiful farms in the country, and they are cared for by the extremely knowledgeable and experienced Lane’s End staff.
We thought you would like to meet some of the people who are involved with Z on a daily basis, so we created a series of video interviews.
The first in our three part series is an interview with Alys Emson, who is in charge of Client Management at Lane’s End. Alys takes many of the photos that we use on this website. Thanks Alys!
Alys Emson: Client Management
“I was born and raised in the South of England, and my love affair with horses began at a very early age—I was able to ride almost before I could walk! My career began in Newmarket and continued in France before I settled in America. The early years were spent gaining valuable experience in every division of the farm including a couple of breeding seasons with the stallions and a stint on the racetrack. My duties now mostly involve evaluating the yearlings and foals and keeping our clients current on their progress and development. Zenyatta has been a welcome and special addition to the Lane’s End broodmare band and it has been both rewarding and memorable to watch her fulfill the next chapter in her life.”
Enjoy!

Thanks go to Ann and Jerry for responding to our requests and providing us with updates and pictures and all the wonderful things going on with Z and Little Z!
The interviews are super, introducing the people who are involved in the day to day lives of these beautiful animals (even after rolling in the dirt)!
How little guy is growing and the HRTV video shows that he is full of energy and showing the signs of what he will one day become…..a Champion! Always a champion in our hearts just like his mama!

Baby Z is beautiful just like his mom!!!

Alys,
Thank you for the informative interview and the wonderful pictures you take. Boy, I’d love your job, I bet you enjoy going to work(?) everyday. It is really nice to meet all of the kind professional people at the best farm ever, who take care of our Zen and EARnie. He looks like a Handsome handful, bet Mama Zen wears off the baby weight chasing him. Hugs to all you caretakers at LE.
Elaine
His nickname should be Magic because with Zenyatta “every little thing she does is magic”!!

Good Morning Queen Z & “little one”,
Be sure to say Thank You to Alys & Lane’s End for continuing to share your, and their, time & lives with us. Enjoyed Alys background & info. Strong, intelligent, caring women making a difference in the world of racing & breeding. Who knows, maybe you will end up with Havre de Grace as a buddy.
A little eavesdropping:
“Did you hear about MY Breeder’s Cup”? “Well, how about last year’s Woodward”? Queen’s Rule the Sport of Kings! Miss your on track heroics. Be safe, happy & well.
PEACE & LOVE
T.Buck/Texas
he has grown into a remarkable colt ….he is too cute jst like his mom

I’d like to add my own thanks to Land’s End, Alys Emson, and all of Team Z for sharing information, photos and videos of Zenyatta and her colt. I no longer own horses but recall one of the joys of my life was when my mare foaled a colt, and watching him grow into a fine animal. He was physically quite capable but just as important (to an amateur) he had a friendly and charming personality. It does add bonus points! Again, thank you SO MUCH for the sharing.

Terry–Too Funny!! Lol!

Oops Sorry Linda, I meant to place my comment under Terry’s post.

OK, I am going to jar the reverent tone of the blog. @Don-I miss you, old friend. Say hello to Kari Bussell and Russ Berube for me. @Vicki B-Love the dead skunk song. Perhaps it should be the club theme song. Also noted is the names of your relatives. Truly classic. A salesman dropped in to see a business customer. Not a soul was in the office except a horse which was emptying waste baskets. The salesman stared at the horse, wondering if his imagination was playing tricks on him. The horse looked up and said “Don’t be surprised. This is just part of my job.” “Incredible,” the salesman said. “I can’t believe it! Does your boss know hat a prize he has in you? A horse that can talk.” “Please don’t tell him,” said the horse, “If he finds out I can talk, he’ll make me answer the phone, too.”

Do you know my husband??? Dead skunk in middle of the road!!!
Karen Gogue / Oh B♥by!
LOL!
Terry Crow
Carol-I don’t know what to say. Is he still your husband?
Marty R / Colorado
Oh my gosh, carol. That is too funny.
Terry, Love your response, too.

LOL!!

Another good one Terry! We are probably running you ragged looking for new “talking horse material” but . . . . they provide high quality laughs (especially when you try to envision the horse doing things like answering the phone :-)

Thanks, Terry. I suspect many might not have seen the verses from “Dead Skunk”, as they were posted in reply to Barbara Wood’s “finding a dead skunk in one’s swimming pool” late yesterday: https://staging.zenyatta.com/news/life-at-lanes-end-time-for-a-trim#comment-149757

And I’ll repost from Terry’s yesterday “You might be a redneck if one of your relatives is named Cletus”. Well, some of mine are named Elmer & Hazel, Cornelia, Gladys, Virgil, Ruby, Pearl, & (Uncle) Chick. Not a bad redneck assortment.

DON’T EVER WORRY ABOUT CHANGING THE TONE ON THE BLOG; YOUR
COMMENTS AND JOKES ARE VERY MUCH A PART OF THIS BLOD NO MATTER WHAT THE MOOD, AND WHEN THINGS USED TO GET SO MORBID; A VERY WELCOME
UPLIFTING RELIEF.
KEEP THEM COMING TC; LOVE THE HORSE JOKE;
JUST SAW WAR HORSE, “JOEY” IS SUCH A VERY TALENTED “ACTOR”. HE IS SOOO VERY EXPERESSIVE, I HAVE NEVER SEEN A HORSE THAT EXPRESSIVE, IT IS A TRUE STORY OF THE FLIGHT RESPONSE HORSES, PARTICULARLY, TB HAVE AND THE TROUBLE THEY CAN GET INTO ( CAUGHT UP IN BARBWIRE) AND THE HUMANS THAT RESCUE AND CARE FOR THEM. ALTHOUGH A WAR FILM, THE SCENE OF THE GERMAN AND AMERICAN/BRITISH SOLDIERS RESCUING JOEY WAS VERY SPECIAL, ESPECIALLY THE PART WHEN THE GERMANS WERE ASKED FOR MORE WIRE CUTTER AND ABOUT 100 PAIRS OF THEM WERE THROWN TO THE TWO SOLDIERS.
A VERY SPECIAL MOVIE WITH A VERY SPECIAL HORSE; LIFE ON THE TRACK FOR HIM WOULD HAVE BEEN A WASTE; HE IS TRUELY A WONDERFUL ACTOR WITH A VERY WONDERFUL TRAINER.
Terry Crow
I have now seen almost all of last year’s nominated films and I can say without a doubt that War Horse was the best of the lot, at least in my humble opinion. The scene near the end when the temporarily blind soldier whistles even affected this old goat. If Hollywood wants to commit suicide, make more silent movies with French actors.
Terry Crow
Today’s redneck jokes–You might be a redneck if you and your dog use the same tree. You might be a redneck if your dad’s cell number has nothing to do with his phone. You might be a redneck if you think J. R. Ewing owns the Dallas Cowboys. You might be a redneck if you keep a can of Raid on the kitchen table. You might be a redneck if you have been married three times and still have the same in-laws. You might be a redneck if you chewed tobacco at your wedding. You might be a redneck if you hold a frog and it worries about getting warts from you.
Marty R / Colorado
Terry,
Great jokes!! Yesterday I finally informed my husband that we have a Red Neck Club here and I am the president of the Colorado branch. He shook his head in disbelief. Imagine that. But, now he better understands why I spend so much time here. LOL
Terry Crow
Well, he should, But, didn’t he suspect when you washed off the bird droppings on the house with a hose?
Marty R / Colorado
No, he didn’t catch on then, but now he understands why I’m insisting on planting MY tomato plant in front.
Karen Gogue / Oh B♥by!
Another LOL!

MADE MY DAY WITH THE JOKES AFTER A VERY STRESSFUL WEEK.
THANKS, TC
Brenda S..Ontario, Canada
What a great way to end the week with a new post. Thank you Alys and Lane’s End. Baby Z is developing quickly, he’s growing into those long legs and he’s looking less and less like a baby. Zenny is doing a fine job, with some assistance from Alys.
Kathy R. Canberra Oz.
Agree Brenda S. – it does make for a great end to the week. Like other folk, I’m very grateful to Team Z for the updates – the Forum may be entertaining to some, but the treat of an unexpected post from Lanes End or the connections is just a delight!
Karen Gogue / Oh B♥by!
Pretty cool, and so thoughtful of you, Lane’s End and Team Z, to do this for Z’s dumplings! I believe we are more comfortable with Zenny being at Lane’s End each time her caring, loving members on the Z Team staff are introduced to us. We like to feel an on going connection to this beautiful mares life, and LE and Team Z certainly has supplied Z best of Z best for us – above and beyond what should be expected, beyond our own expectations as well! Thank you! Please keep blessing us with video and photos – never can get enough of the Queen of Racing’s precious first born! This one is indeed special … a graceful, charming ‘magic star’ … divinely blessed to us through this magnificent ‘magic mare’. L♥ve XooXXoXoo …

Marty R / Colorado
Many thanks to Team Z and Lane’s End for keeping us informed about Zenyatta and 12Z. Considering how many mares and foals there are and clients Alys has to report to, it is extremely appreciated that she has taken the time to do this interview. Really looking forward to parts 2 and 3 as well.
@ Andrea, Like the others, I wish the best for you and your Blanchie and that her foal arrives soon. Got everything crossed.
