Happy Friday!
While we were at Lane’s End at the beginning of the month, we spent time dreaming up ways to share the experience with all of you.
Zenyatta and her colt enjoy life on one of the most beautiful farms in the country, and they are cared for by the extremely knowledgeable and experienced Lane’s End staff.
We thought you would like to meet some of the people who are involved with Z on a daily basis, so we created a series of video interviews.
The first in our three part series is an interview with Alys Emson, who is in charge of Client Management at Lane’s End. Alys takes many of the photos that we use on this website. Thanks Alys!
Alys Emson: Client Management
“I was born and raised in the South of England, and my love affair with horses began at a very early age—I was able to ride almost before I could walk! My career began in Newmarket and continued in France before I settled in America. The early years were spent gaining valuable experience in every division of the farm including a couple of breeding seasons with the stallions and a stint on the racetrack. My duties now mostly involve evaluating the yearlings and foals and keeping our clients current on their progress and development. Zenyatta has been a welcome and special addition to the Lane’s End broodmare band and it has been both rewarding and memorable to watch her fulfill the next chapter in her life.”
Enjoy!

THANKS SO MUCH TO LANES END AND TEAM Z FOR GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY
TO SEE MEET THE WONDERFUL, LUCKY, EXPERT FOLKS WHO WORK AT LANES
END.
I THING THOSE ON THIS SITE WHO REALLY DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT BREEDING AND HAVE MADE INAPPROPRIATE RESPONSED TO ISSUES THAT COME UP, WILL NOW SEE HOW VERY TOP CLASS AND COMPETENT THIS BREEDING FARM REALLY IS.
ZENNY IS SO LUCKY, WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW SHE IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER MARES, MAYBE DOES NOT GET INTO ALL THE “GOSSIP” AND JUST TAKES CARE OF HER BUSINESS RAISING HER FOAL ????
THANKS SO MUCH ALYS, YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL JOB, I AM SURE IT CAN BE QUITE CHALLENGING DEALING WITH THESE VERY EXPENSIVE HORSE AND THEIR
SOME HIGHER MAINTENANCE OWNERS, BUT SO VERY WONDERFUL. IT IS SO MUCH FUN WORKING WITH THESE TYPE OF FOLKS. I HAVE DONE IT WITH THIS
CLASS OF PEOPLE IN ANOTHER SPECIALTY AREA.
THANKS AGAIN FOR LETTING US LEARN MORE ABOUT LANES END, ZENYATTA AND 12 ZENYATT, WHO IS GROWING LIKE A WEED.
Peggy
Thank you sooo much for all the great pics of Z abd her boy! I love the updates everday!!

I love these sporadic updates. It’s always a treat to see something new about the GREAT Zenyatta….and her colt. Thank you.
Andrea
Look at the ears! He’s so cute and looks to be as intelligent as his momma.
I’m still waiting on my own foal. She was due 2 days ago… pacing, tapping my feet. It’s been a long 3 year process as she’s lost 2 late term foals. The waiting is pretty much doing me in.
Everyone, please finger, toes, hooves, footy-paws crossed for my Blanchie!
Thanks Lanes End, you guys are great to keep the Z fans updated!
Terry Crow
Am keeping everything crossed. Please let us know when the event happens.
Andrea
Thanks, good karma everywhere!

Hi everyone. A great interview. As we know, Zenyatta is so intelligent, human like in so many ways. She is so beautiful. I saw a video yesterday on HRTV on Zenyatta and Baby Z. He is so awesome and those ears – whoa, what a treasure. He is going to be something!! Just love the interview idea. Picture of Baby Z is too cute and brings a smile on my face and tears to my eyes. God Bless them and all who care for all of the horses and especially the foals. Have a great day.

Sorry, I meant video, and it is DELIGHTFUL!!
Paula McCaleb in AZ
Thank you LeslieA for posting this link. I watched HRTV off and on during the Santa Anita meet but I missed this video. Oh my gosh, it was so cute seeing baby Z running around like a little racehorse and playing with his momma. Motherhood seems to fit Zenyatta very well, she’s the Best at Everything she does!
Sarah Powell, Clemson, SC
Thanks for posting this link – loved seeing him run! He looks to be quite a “handful”!!
Maryp (New York)
Thanks Leslie. I don’t get HRTV so I wouldn’t be able to see it if not for this site.
I love seeing them in action and he is just a joy to watch and Zenny is the picture of “calm and collected” but lovin to roll!
Luv'n Zenny & Zunior
MaryP, just click on the link above it will take you straight to the HRTV.com site, You don’t have to be a member to see it. It’s free. the only problem I have with it is the continuous loading of the site but I still just wait patiently through it and enjoy.

That’s great, LeslieA, thanks! It’s wonderful seeing little 12-Z run so much, and Zenny rolling on the ground and covered with dirt. Just great.
Linda Edwards in NJ
Thanks for letting us know about the video and Lesile thanks for posting the link. This is the first time we see little 12Z running. How cute and Zenyatta she is the best Moma. Too Cute!
Mary Lee
What a treat to hear Alys comment on her work at the farm and her words about Zenny. We all know Zenyatta is in a ‘class of her own.’ Both Zenny and Baby Z look great and appear happy and healthy at Lanes End who gives great care to ALL their horses. THANK YOU for keeping the fan base in the loop. We’re delighted for every post!
Wendy Treadaway
Thank you again, Lane’s End, for keeping us all updated! Looking forward to the other interviews!
Chris Balmes
This was really interesting and well done. Thank you so much for continuing to share; we are all so attached to Zenny and her little man. He is precious to say the least.
The Kennedys in San Diego
Thank you, Team Z. Great way to share your Lane’s End experience. Particularly fascinated by Alys’ comment that Zenyatta doesn’t really act like a lot of the other mares attributing that to her intelligence. How we would love to spend time with Alys and hear her compare/contrast Zenyatta with other mares.
Terry Crow
Great to hear from the Kennedys, a true class act.
The Kennedys in San Diego
Terry, we missed you at the Santa Anita meeting, hope you plan to be there for the Hollywood Gold Cup — the first anniversary of the charter members of Z-Dumplings.
Linda Edwards in NJ
Hello to the Kennedys in San Diego and Terry and Everyone — Oh my goodness that’s right! I can feel a reunion coming up!!
ladybri77
I wonder in what way she is different from the other mares, would love to hear that!
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Yes, I really liked that comment, too, that Zenny’s “a funny mare, cause she doesn’t really act like a lot of the other mares, and I think that some of that is her own intelligence, probably what helped her win so many races”. Nice to have our own sensibilities about Zenyatta confirmed, yet again.
Sue Fl CPRC
Hi, Thank you for the new post and that great photo of our Baby BOY. Z12 is really bulking up and he looks like mini Z standing there in his paddock. I think he is fully aware of the fact he is special. love you all
Terry Crow
Sue-I thought it was Zenyatta when I first saw the photo.
Sue Fl CPRC
Hi, We all love those ears. I am noticing another item that is looking much like Mom. That rump is starting to look like you know who.
sharon in seattle
Terry – me too, for just a second there. Maybe it’s those lovely rear quarters : )
Trisha from VA
This is so great. We Zenyatta “crazy” fans and Z12 god mothers and aunties are always wanting more. So special to see and hear about her extended team/family. It must be a wonderful job being around her and other great animals all the time.
Love the information, keep it coming.
Z12 is growing like a weed. He is such a darling dumplin and Zenyatta is a wonderful mother.
How is Tasty doing?
Love hugs and kisses to all
Barb Zylbert
Thanks so much for the update!!!! A name for Baby Z yet? Has Z been re-bred yet? All curious!!!

Video yesterday said she had been bred and they were “counting days”

Delightful! Always fascinating to learn about Lane’s End and of course, to receive these updates on Zenyatta and foal.
Thank you!
Donna in CA
Thank you so much for the interview and update phote of Baby Z! This is a great idea. I found the interview very interesting — always interested in whose taking care of Zenyatta and her baby and what’s Lane’s End really like for them. Baby Z is looking more like a colt and less like a baby — look at those shoulder muscles and the rear end is showing some definition too. He’s Hot!
Thank You.
Ashley
Since i am deaf and theres no subtiles.. What are the events mentioned as the board says?
:-D
Sue Fl CPRC
Hi, What did you want to know?
The interview was about the work that Alys has done at the farm. Alys has been at the farm for 14 years. Alys is in an office job now and is like a liaison between the farm and the owners. Alys keeps in contact with the owners through their web pages.
Alys grades the foals and yearlings. She comments on the babies to the owners and sends photos and videos. Alys keeps the owners up to date.
Alys talked about what a smart horse Zenny is compared to other horses. Alys guessed that is why she won so many races. Alys said it was nice to have a horse at the farm with so many fans and was such a great ambassador of the sport. If you need anything just let me know. I will be very happy to help you. Sue big Z fan
Raylene So Cal
@Sue Fl CPRC – Thank you so much for answering Ashley. I wanted to but did not have time since I am at work. Alys also mentioned about how smart our Queen is too!!
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Dearest Ashley, Sue in FL has already filled you in on most of it (Thank you, Sue!). Let me add just a couple details: Alys calls Zenyatta is “a classy mare” and a delight, easy to deal with, and says that the whole foaling process went smoothly with her. Another thing that may interest you– Alys speaks with a charming British accent (as you read above, that’s where she is originally from). She came to Lane’s End to work in her twenties, went home again, but returned because “the allure was too great.” High hoof to Alys and Lane’s End!
Linda B from Va
So great to hear from the staff. I know they work hard but what a joy that they share caring for such god gifted animals. Zen is of course is my heart and her baby boy a joy. Thanks for sharing with us the life at Lane’s End. God bless all the caretakers.
KellyM444
Thanks Team Z for the update. Love you Z & 12Z!
Jan S. / Houston, TX
Thanks Lane’s End for the delightful interview with Alys. Its always good to hear about Z and Master Z. Can’t wait until the next one. Boy, he is growing in leaps & bounds, and those big radar ears of his are just like his Mamas. ;)
Marion
Thank you sooo much for a update and picture on Baby Z….He is to cute for words and really getting big fast. I just love hes ears , ” to cute ” like Dotti used to say.
I miss her daily writings dearly .
Barbara Wood (Texas)
What a great new blog! Love the interview with Alys (more as time permits, I see?) and thank you Kyle for the great photo. What a doll-baby baby Z. is!
@Andrea–we’re pacing with you and praying for Blanchie. We have lots of practice at this!
@Ashley–not sure what you question is, but she mainly talks about her job of reporting to owners, especially those who can’t get there too often. Her job is to report on the foals, etc. on each owner’s own farm website.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Cynthia H./ 12th ♥
Thank you, Team Z. Brilliant!

Thank you Alyss and all of Team Z and Lanes End!
