Happy Friday!
Alys snapped these early morning pictures around Zenyatta’s paddock this week. As the weather warms up, we’re counting the days until summer is officially here. The horses at Lane’s End have been enjoying the balmy weather. Z Princess is growing up fast, and Ziconic will soon start his basic training and conditioning at Lane’s End.
For those of you awaiting a restock of our most popular item from the Zenyatta Shop — it’s here! Our new batch of Key Tags has arrived. Order yours here.

This filly is just gorgeous — from the caboose that can to those Zenny ears, just beautiful.! And her legs — they look so strong, so sturdy. Can’t wait to see if she has Z’s power and desire. If she does, step aside boys and girls!
Zenny, of course, is magnificent. Love to see her so happy and content.
I was watching the videos of our Coz at Belmont again, and noticed something that I think is actually quite important…. the first time he trotted unto the track, and John has stopped on his horse and is watching Coz ride away — Coz flags his tail! He was truly happy to be on the track. That is such a good sign.
Zenny’s offspring are providing so much joy and hope and excitement. As long as they are healthy, whatever each turns out to be, it will be wonderful to follow them.
Each is special in his/her own way, and each seems to have a lot of Z in them, physically and in sheer presence and confidence
Thank you so much to Team Z and the gang at LEF for sharing all this wonderful info, videos and photos. You’ll never know how much this all means to so many of us — and yes I’m happy to member of the Cult of Love and Happiness Share the love, the more the better!

Anne you said everything so well that I wanted to say. Let me just add that the filly’s legs look almost as long as her mother’s. Love the promise of these babies no matter where there path goes.

Such a pretty princess!! Glad there was an update on Ziconic. Can’t wait to hear how his training is going!

Thank you all for allowing us to stay connected with the beautiful Zenyatta and her babies. As they grow into beautiful beings in their own right, I pray that they stay sound and happy. Again, thank you!

Hi there Zen family and hello to my sweet Zenny, the Princess, Coz and Ziconic:
How ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS is this filly of ours?????? Which is not to say, of course, that the boys are any less than stunning. But the photo of the Princess from the side….I mean WOWZA, right? Mind you, I was somewhat prepared for her gorgeousness because Julie June Stewart, a racing writer, is a friend of mine on Facebook and she has visited Zenny and her Princess because she’s planning an article on them. Anyway, she wrote to say that if I thought the boys were to die for, get ready for the Princess! So I’ve been waiting for an Alys photo that did Julie June’s comment some justice and this one is IT. In fact, I don’t know if Sheena, Max & those who follow British racing would agree, but the Princess looks like a British thoroughbred in this shot…..in fact (be still my heart) she reminds me of some of Frankel’s babies……
One must hope that she doesn’t have the rumoured “War Front Lazy Gene.” Of course, I do know that any individual, parents aside, can be a lazybones. But according to Aidan O’Brien, the Coolmore-Ballydoyle War Fronts are pretty much 100% lazy. Lots of potential, but not all that keen to show it. Pretty funny to imagine a lazy Princess with an equal dose of the Queen’s “attitude” in her first few months with John, right?
I was also VERY thrilled to get some news on “The Redhead” aka Ziconic. I was remembering that Coz started his early education around this time a year ago, before heading off to the Mayberrys in August, I think. I’m as excited to see how he comes along as his big brother. Zen’s family is certainly going to keep Granny & Poppy Moss busy!!!!
Has anyone been following Royal Ascot? I enjoyed Leading Light’s edging out of the Queen’s brilliant Estimate and was interested to read that in her loss Estimate probably ran the most impressive race of her career. Was baffled by Treve’s defeat and I’m still waiting to hear if there was any reason physically for her run and running style (she never really flowed the way she does when she’s into the running). But thrilled for THE FUGUE, who set a track record — I just LOVE this mare!
Another very cool dimension was the presence of Wesley Ward who does great things with his 2 year-olds, the fabulous Kingman and the not-so-fabulous trouble that Rosalind got herself into. In the latter case, she came out of the gate very badly, stumbled & dislodged her jockey, Keiron Fallon, who didn’t ride for the rest of the day. Rosalind, according to early tweets from trainer McPeek grabbed a foot and was cut up, but not badly. Poor girl! I can’t help but feel that they were asking too much from her too soon.
Also of interest was the HUGE number of American sires represented at Ascot, as either sires or BM sires, among them Dynaformer, Quality Road (whose son HOOTENANNY won), War Front (of course!) and Lemon Drop Kid (whose son CANNOCK CHASE won). So much for the theory that there’s something wrong with North American thoroughbreds, right?
Thank you, ALYS, for more great photos, as well as Team Z for taking such good care of us. And LE for taking such good care of my Big Girl and her family.
Love & hugs to all
Deana from Texas
For those in the “know” about horses I would like to ask a question. Does a mare know the difference between a male or female foal? Just curious if they know?
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
These pictures of mama Zen and Lily are so beautiful, Alys, you are a photographer extradenaire!! Lily is just gorgeous and I must disagree with those above, but she is her fabulous mothers girl all over. Now that she’s shedding she will look even more like mama Zen, a beautiful dark bay……..love it. That cute hiney she has I’d recognize anywhere and those ears are a family tradition.
Love and Kisses Mama Zen, Lily, Zi, CoZ and my Indy.
Max
Abigail. Don’t know much about this lazy gene theory of O’Brien. The War Fronts are winners on the track where it matters. There was nothing lazy about Danzig. Coolmore is also one of Claiborne’s top sale clients for War Front foals. The Princess Z looks alert and game for anything. Nothing lazy about her. If she has inherited Z’s attitude from the Roberto line and her paternal grand daddy’s intensity: look out world.

P.S. Maybe the Princess should be called WOWZA! What do you think?

Dear Team Z, Alys and Lane’s End:
What a gorgeous place Lane’s End is. Max and I often post about being able to retire there.
Alys, your photos of Z and Z Princess are just beautiful. That little girl seems to be a replica of Z in her conformation. She actually looks more mature than she is. Just gorgeous. Giving credit to the Sires too, what absolute beauties Z’s babies are. Thank you for these new photos and for sharing Z and her babies’ lives with us. Love and Hugs, JB

JudyB. The photos of Z and her daughter are very nice. Lane’s End is impressive. I’ll have to retire or get a job there if I’m ever going to get a look at Tasty. Still waiting. Tasty, do you need a PA? Will do grooming.

The blaze on Z Princess’s face reminds me of an Olympic torch. She is so beautiful.

I noticed Coz’s tail flagged and thought of the first time Zenny was turned out in the snow with her tail straight up. A friend of mine criticized my fascination about Zenyatta as seeming cult like about 3 years back. It’s not cultic just adoration in its truest sense.
Unbelievable how much Z Princess has grown. She’s just lovely. Anxious to see how Ziconic does with his early training and so happy about Coz’s progress. Love them all!!
Barbara Brayton
Wow! The Princess is beautiful. As someone said,no matter what happens on the track, we want them all to be happy and healthy.
Thank you for the beautiful pictures.

Beautiful photos Alys,,you have a way of capturing Zenny and her babes so naturally.
The early morning shots are so peaceful and the shots of Z Princess give us a feel for this little gem and her presence. Thanks to you and Team Z.
