Happy Wednesday!
We hope you are all having fun this summer. 12Z certainly is! He has grown quite a bit, and he now spends much of his time socializing and playing with other colts.
Alys sent us these photos of 12Z having a great time with his buddies–and mom!
Check back this week for the next Ask The Experts post plus an exciting announcement.

It’s wonderful to see these photos of Queen Z and the prince. Can’t call him little any more. He is gorgeous,,.very like his mom in energy and looks… so much promise just waiting to be discovered. But I am happiest to see Zenyatta looking so well, running and bucking, blooming in good health. I miss her and look forward to every new photo.
Thanks to Team Z for sending these.
All the best to everyone!

WOW!! Look at him kick up those adorable hoofs! I also love that front leg action – “Mommy Zen Step” :-P
Thank you for sharing these lovely photos with us!
Happy Hump, Baby Tapit Bump Day, Queen Zenyatta! ♥ Stay healthy, Sweetheart.
I look forward to the “news” – I hope it’s about the “Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta Party” we’ve all been waiting for! Our BC weekend revolves around that time party :-)
I would love to visit Mommy Z and Prince Z – how thrilling it would be – I’d probably bawl like a baby seeing them……. Peeps who have been there are soooooooo lucky!!!
♥ All my love, Auntie Judy XOXO ♥

Since after the Curlin Stakes Friday they are going to announce the name for Rachael/Curlin baby… Maybe the announcement on when they are going to announce the name of Zen’s baby…. I would think it would maybe after the race named in Zen’s honor…..
While that is usually true that most TB’s are named at two, by their owners usually after the sales are over, I think the in this case, it will be soon. Especially since they had the name the baby contest for Zen’s baby, like with Rachael’s baby.

The Mosses do not name their horses until the are in
2 year old training !!!!

I guess we’ll cross the bridge when we get to it. It’s still exciting to think about what the special announcement will be. None of us are in the Moss’s heads, so we’ll never truly know what wonderful things they have thought up for us Queen Z fans.
Trisha-VA
Thank you Lane’s End for so many wonderful pics of our Zenyatta and boy. Such a hoot looking at them kicking up their heels. 12Z is only 4 mos old. I hope he is not leaving Zenyatta yet. Aren’t they all so beautiful and handsome? Love them, love them , love them. Well my withdrawals have subsided a bit, but you know we can NEVER EVER get enough of our girl and her boy or all of her Team Zenyatta.
Love hugs and kisses to all

He is amazing! Can’t imagine having a pasture full of them – I would live in the pasture!! Zenyatta looks great too. Isn’t she in foal again? It is so nice to see happy, healthy horses that people truly care for! Baby Z is so gorgeous. Thanks to all for the pics.

How Fun. Mom is so awesome, It is good to see her enjoying life and all that surrounds her. The Baby Wow what a looker he is. Thanks LE for the photos you have out done yourselves this time.
Cheryl Smith
Great pics! He is a frisky fellow! Love Z and her prince so much!
ronni
Thank you so much for sharing these pictures. He has certainly grown up alot! He (and mama Z) can certainly kick up their hooves!! My guess is that the big announcement could also be that he will soon be weaned. Hoping we get his official name though!
casey
Thank you Alys for your beautiful photos, for the team @ Lane’s End for keeping us updated, for Team Z for EVERYTHING!!!!! Zenny, you’re looking MAHVELOUS! And the Prince is so much like you, I can’t wait. I’m thinking we’re going to weaning soon :( but he looks like he’s ready to be with “the boys”. Love you!
Jennifer
I’m so sorry for the stupid question, but…in the second and third pictures from the top is that Zenyatta bucking? That horse appears to be wearing shoes, at least on the front feet. Is it just an illusion in the picture?
GirlSaratoga
Hi Jennifer:
I believe that is our Girl Momma Z, but I think it might be an illusion or her legs maybe wrapped? Plus the grass looks a little brown in the pic, so that may be throwing you off. And by the way no question is dumb, I’ve asked a few myself! Have a great day!
Fontella
Zenyatta has front shoes on, barefoot in the rear and has no leg wraps on. She looks great running and bucking with her colt doesn’t she!!
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Zenny is barefoot and has been barefoot since
Arriving at Lanes End. Broodmares do not wear
Leg wraps they are not working horses, they are relaxing
Horse and growing babies and enjoying life.
L♥VE Auntie Judy aka JAG / Southern CA
Yes, Zenyatta is wearing front shoes :-)
GirlSaratoga
Now I have a stupid question……do they normally take the shoes off horses if they aren’t racing? I thought the shoes protected their hooves? I looked at the pic’s again and can see the shoes, i guess i thought Jennifer was referring to something else?
Zenyen
There could be wide reasons for Zenyatta to be wearing front shoes. Ranging from safety to reduce the risk of slipping to comfort. Not all horses are comfortable going completely barefoot.
They would not be racing plates, like she wore at the track but just a typical shoe as worn by any horse.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Zenny had her shoes removed when she arrived at
Lanes End see early diary entry there was a whole discussion
About it !!!
zenyen
Sign,
She had her racing plates removed. She could also have gone barefoot for a few months and then it was decided that she would be better off with front shoes.
Maryp (New York)
Jennifer, Yes, that horse is Zenyatta and it does appear she has shoes.
Jennifer
Thanks for all the responses on this. I remember reading that Zenyatta had her shoes removed upon arriving at Lane’s End. As some readers seem to agree, she appears to be wearing front shoes in these pictures which really surprised me. Does anyone think this is reason for concern?
Zenyen
No.
In a situation like Zenyatta’s front shoes are most like (keyword MOST LIKELY) like wearing flipflops down to the beach.
Sure you could be barefoot and probably be all right but why not have the flipflops and make sure you don’t step on a small pebble and bruise your foot.
GirlSaratoga
Ok Everyone!
We forgot one little small detail, although we LOVE our Girl Zenny, and baby Z, his daddy was a beauty too! He was a champ and a real looker too! What perfect parents baby Z has! So I’m sending a shout out to Bernardini and his team for producing a fine looking colt. They should be every bit as proud as Team Z! Let’s try not to forget the daddy’s in this whole process, they are just as important as the momma’s! (Even though he looks just like his mom!) Maybe the “Big” announcement is Z-Girl’s gender of her next foal? Hope the announcement happens soon, too excited to wait!
Jan
Bernie is indeed VERY handsome – that combined with Z’s beauty produced this luscious foal – thank you for reminding us that he deserves half the credit – lol!
Moss’s don’t find out foal gender….they wait until birth (as much as us fans don’t like that practice). ;)
GirlSaratoga
Jan:
Thanks for sharing the Moss’s practice on not finding out the gender of the foal! So that won’t be the “big” announcement! And thanks for acknowledging BERNIE, baby Z wouldn’t be as adorable as he is without his daddy’s genes!
Jan S. in Houston
Yes, a big shout out to Mr. Bernardini. He puts out some fine looking horses and winners too.
Marty R / Colorado
Thank you, thank you for these wonderful pictures!! I won’t try to guess the announcement, I’ll just be surprised. Gotta go back for another viewing of the pictures.
Sandra Ryan
For Pete’s sake….give that baby a “barn name”!
lizzie
I can’t believe how much he looks like mom, especially in the one photo where they are side by side…physically they are very similar. Hmmm, maybe that’s a sign;)
Beautiful pictures!!! Waiting in anticipation for “the news!!!”

AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
SO EXCITED!!!! COULD IT BE? IS IT HE?!?!?! I’M ALMOST IN SHOCK FROM EXCITEMENT!!!
maria McLeese
isn’t Zenyatta pregnant? Is that her bucking?
L♥VE Auntie Judy aka JAG / Southern CA
Yes, she is very pregnant with Tapit and, yes, she sure can buck LOL
Auntie JAG
Amanda
yes Zenny is in foal to Tapit and that is her bucking.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
Not to worry. She is a 1200 pound animal, and the fetus is about the size of a chipmunk. Bucking won’t hurt her or the foal in utero. She’s healthy and happy.
sharon in seattle
isn’t that just too glorious to behold – Z and Z12 romping, bucking, hanging out with pals – WOW!
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC

How wonderful!! He’s getting so big and Zenny looks wonderful. I can’t wait to hear what the announcement is.
Fran
Thanks for sharing such awesome pictures of Z and baby Z. He is going to be so big! What a wonderful life they are having!
ellen
Great pictures. Would love to see a video of them kicking up their heels and having fun
Sandra Bennington
Thank You to the Zenyatta team for posting pictures of Baby Z & Zenyatta! It is so nice to see pictures of them playing an interacting and how fast baby Z is growing!!
Allen
Thank You Alys and Team Z for the wonderful pictures, you are truely amazing people to continue to share Zenny and 12Z with all her fans. Zenny you look terrific, and The Little Prince has really grown up and his confirmation looks perfect. I don’t think the announcement is the sex of the Tapit foal, since Ann and Jerry have always prefered to wait. My choice is a name for 12Z is coming soon. Thank You again Lanes End for taking such good care of Zenny and her Little Prince.
Marilu V
Thank you Team Z for the wonderful pictures. They are so happy!
Made my day! Marilu
Maryp (New York)
Thanks Alys for the great photos of Zennie and PrinceZ w/his friends just loving life!
I do hope that the “news” will be announcing his official name. Many thanks to Team Z for the great job keeping us informed and to Lane’s End for the great job caring for all those wonderful horses.

These are great pics!! I love Zenyatta and miss watching her race. Baby Z looks and acts soooo much like his Mom. He looks like he is having a lot of fun kicking up his heels and galloping around with his Mom and other horses. I’m sure when he gets to be 2 or 3 we will see him racing……Can’t Wait!!
Brianna
Thank you so much for the wonderful pictures of Mamma Z and Baby Z. Momma Z is definitely looking more like a broodmare every time I see her! She is an absolutely amazing mare (Bernardini too is a great stallion), and I’m sure Baby Z will be a great racehorse someday to carry on his mother and father’s legacy! I wish the best to Queen Z and her up and coming foals! Does anyone know what happened with the name the foal contest? I was just wondering. I hope the news is a name for the prince, or maybe about her next foal! Keep us updated with all the amazing pictures and stories!
Beverly Gerth
Wonderful pictures!!!! The highlight of my day is going out to Zenyatta’s web page and seeing all the pictures of Zenyatta and baby Z. Thank you Lanes End Farm for keeping us up to date on Zenyatta and baby Z and sharing all these wonderful pictures. I really appreciate it.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
12Z looks like a little horse now, rather than a baby. Spooky’s boy is really starting to gray, isn’t he? Anybody know who the third foal is–the little bay fellow?
Alex Bowdoin in MA
WOW, He is a handsome boy!! Our Z looks just Beautiful, does she not!! I love to see her running and bucking in the paddock!! Brings a few tears into these eyes to see her running FREE and So Happy!! HUGS TO ALL
Randy
What a wonderful Wednesday surprise! Thank you Team Z, Lane’s End and of course Alys Emson (would love to know what kind of camera you use… it takes marvelous pictures, even the action shots, and you’re a very good photographer).
I can’t believe how big Z12 is now and he’s not even five months old yet. My favorite is the profile one where he’s running with Zenny (six down from the top, or four up from the bottom)… he has the most gorgeous head and neck… it actually made me catch my breath when I saw it. He’s turned into a stunning colt, and when he grows up… well I can’t even imagine.
I love seeing Zenny’s exuberance where she’s running and bucking and I’m thankful that she seems happy with her life… she so deserves that happiness. And Z12 galloping and playing with his friends is just precious. They’re all gorgeous colts, every one of them. They’ve lost their fuzzy coats for the most part, their tails are getting fuller, and they certainly don’t have baby faces anymore (actually that last part is kind of sad).
I’m afraid if I worked at a place like Lane’s End I wouldn’t be able to stop watching all the young ones playing… I can’t even stop looking at these pictures now. Guess I’m better off doing office work — it would be absolutely humiliating to get fired from my dream job!

Love you’re comment Randy. And ditto….

I am so sorry, I forgot to Thank You LE for these pictures!!!
