Thank you, Sheena!! I missed the earlier explanation. Hugs.

It’s been a hard term for many of us to grasp. It seems as though Hovis feels he must do a bit of this (abhorrent as it is) to accomplish certain goals (probably having to do with treats :-)
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Dear Sandy, I believe Hovis refers to any dressage-like (stressage) movements as “poncing.”

Dear Max Thanks so much for posting poor Hovis I can sympathise am wilting here in Wales!! .Lovely pic of “The Dark Destroyer”!!Just been on Laura’s website she continue to be sedated and incubated over the weekend for her lungs to heal Thank God there is no brain damage.Continued prayers for our girl Just seen Elusive Kate win the Falmouth beating Sky Lantern interference in the last furlong steward’s inquiry.hugs Sheena

Wow! Elusive Kate beat Sky Lantern???? She looked so impressive at the Ascot.

Here’s US bred Elusive Kate winning the Falmouth. She’s determined from the start. Like her trainer. He trained Locarno and Thought Worthy, sons of Big D.

Sheena. You are welcome. Glad to post Hovis’ diary for you. Hoping all goes well for Laura. She’s been through a every rough time.
Enjoy your talks with KathyR about cricket. When I was in England, I lived next to a park with a cricket lawn. I could never understand cricket. It’s kind of slow, and I could not figure out what was happening.
Kathy R.
Dear Max: I’m with you on the cricket thing! The public broadcasting service here (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) has a postal address of PO Box 9994 in any capital city. This is a reference to Don Bradman’s test batting average of 99.94 runs. Don Bradman is considered by sporting tragics to be an icon of Australian society. Like I said, tragic! The ABC, in cricket season, places a higher priority on cricket than the news – they don’t break into test cricket, for example, to bring news. And that applies now, with the game being played in the UK. (Don Bradman played way-back in the 1930’s). One of our Prime Minister’s wanted knowledge of Bradman to be included as part of the citizenship test. I’m so glad this information is just between Sheena and we Z-family!

Broken neck from horse-riding accident killed Woodford County veterinarian’s wife
By Greg Kocher —Lexington Herald-Leader July 11, 2013
An autopsy Thursday determined that a woman died of a broken neck after a horse-riding accident, Woodford County Coroner Ronald Owens said.
Christine Brown, 44, an experienced rider, was found dead Wednesday afternoon in an outdoor hurdle-jumping arena off Pinckard Pike, Owens said. She was found by her husband, veterinarian Dr. Stuart Brown

It is on page 2 on the forum side at the top of that page titled “Videos That Make You Laugh and Put a Smile on Your Face” and when you click on that thread, it’s almost at the bottom of the page and says “Z reigns supreme”. Does anybody know what will happen to the parts of Hollywood Park that have sentimental meaning to so many people? Surely they won’t just bulldoze everything. Perhaps there will be an auction with the money going to equine and jockey charities. What about the Zenyatta Way sign?

Eblouissante to Start at Saratoga
By Blood-Horse Staff Friday, July 12, 2013
Eblouissante, a half sister to Horse of the Year Zenyatta, will make her long-awaited return to the races during opening week at Saratoga Race Course, either in the $200,000 Shuvee Handicap (gr. III) July 20 or a second-level optional claimer July 22.
“She has a work coming up, maybe tomorrow or the next day, and then we’ll make a final decision,” trainer John Shirreffs said July 12. “It’s been a while since she has run.”
Eblouissante, who will carry the colors of the late Eric Kronfeld, is unbeaten in two starts but hasn’t raced since clearing the first allowance condition Jan. 17 at Santa Anita Park. In April, the 4-year-old daughter of Bernardini departed California when Shirreffs brought a string of runners to New York.

Dear Sandy It was the first time that Sky Lantern had taken on the older girls. Although Elusive Kate hung quite badly to the left she kept the race. She will run next in the Sussex Stakes.Any temps over 70-75f is considered a heatwave over here!!!going to be very hot in England tomorrow 90f expected in the London area. love and hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Sky is a beauty. Reminds me of Tasty. Stay cool. I recall going through those UK heat waves and with no air conditioning either. Worse is a sudden cold snap with no central heating.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Oh my – 90 degrees would be hot ANYWHERE and even worse if no air conditioning. Hope everyone keeps a low profile and stays cool (what will poor Hovis do?).
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Sandy–you are so funny. It would be a relief to us!

Dear Max Yes Sky is indeed a beautiful girl.I think it was Sandy who said Tasty’s foal did not survive this year but that she was in foal again. Having lived over here expect you realise the Brits always moan about the weather if you don’t mind me asking what part of the UK was your dad from? hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. He’s from Scotland like Henry Cecil. Still has the accent.
I had noticed that the weather is a main topic of conversation. As everyone has an opinion on it, it’s a good conversation opener. As I really like rain, I had a very good time there.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Max – a father from Scotland is also my British connection. He was from Bellshill (Glascow). All my remaining relatives live much farther north. Trina also has Scottish relatives on her Mom’s side.

I just had two friends from Colchester visiting, who went home to the UK yesterday, and they crabbed a few times about our cool summer here in L.A. They finally went out to Palm Springs overnight, where it was 110 degrees, and dropped to 95 at night — they felt it was heaven, after being sick of so much cold in England. To each his own!

Vicki-About time for some relatives of rednecks jokes.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Yea-ah, Terry. I just have to make time to write them. A quick one, on myself: I was so tired the other day when I got up, that I got to the front door, bag over my shoulder, ready for work, I unlocked the door, and went to put my keys in my pocket, which was all angled the wrong way… and I FINALLY figured out I had my pants on backwards. …which explained why I had SUCH a hard time putting them on that morning, I remembered I was thinking, “I haven’t gained weight, why are they so ill-fitting?” And the front pooched out, while the butt was too tight, and I still couldn’t figure it out. Just shaking my head. Somehow, that IS Redneck.

Kathy R.
Dear Bluegrass Girl: The weather pattern has been crazy down here this autumn/winter. The usual monsoon type stuff that comes into the Top End (W. Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland) just didn’t arrive causing huge problems in the cattle industry because of lack of feed and water. That system is supposed to push down to the rest of the country, but didn’t, so parts of South Australia including around Adelaide, and Victoria again missed the rain they need for grass growth and again a huge drought problem for the dairy farmers/grain growers. Just hope it doesn’t mean we’re in for a bad summer. Just need to find a way to keep the Rain Gods happy (the suggestion made down here is to sacrifice a politician to them!). Cheers!
Ann NC
Thanks, Kathy R.
Can’t wait for her return.

Dear Max Laura is steadily improving and is responding well to her family. She still sleeps most of the time but has seen some of her cards and messages and is thanking everyone.Morpheus did something his famous half-brother couldn’t achieve he won a handicap!!! very hot here today!hugs Sheena

Sheena. Hope that we continue to hear good news of Laura’s recovery.
Read that Morpheus pulled off another win. Jockey said that M is a big baby and needs time to grow up. Heard that they may move him up to over a mile. He’s a bigger horse than his brothers and may be a late developer. Looks like his mother, Kind, but has no markings on his face.

Dear Sheena,
Sorry you’re having to endure 90 degrees in England. I’m in Southern CA so we live with the 90s all the time. In our deserts here it gets into the 120’s. Be glad you’re not there!

Normandy Invasion Examined by Hoof Specialist
By Claire Novak, The Blood-Horse July 12, 2013 8:42 PM
Fox Hill Farms’ Normandy Invasion was examined by hoof specialist Ian McKinlay at Saratoga Race Course and will miss the Travers Stakes (gr. I), owner Rick Porter
said July 12
The 3-year-old Tapit colt could return to training in less than a month if all goes according to plan in treating the abscess that caused him to miss two planned works. This leaves a race like the Sept. 21 Pennsylvania Derby (gr. II) as an option for his
next target.

I like that they are willing to take whatever time it takes for the abscess to dry out and get him back when he’s ready. I lost my draft horse to a hoof abscess, so even though they’re usually no big deal, I have seen what they can do, how big they can get, and what drastic measures may have to be taken, and the pain involved, I don’t take them lightly at all
