Ann and Jerry went to Kentucky to visit Zenyatta, 13Z and Cozmic One last week. Ann sent us a few clips from their time on the farm.

      Great to see Lava Man leading the Hollywood Gold Cup post parade today…looked like he was ready to race again but high hooves to Game On Dude for a dominating win. Very sad indeed that this was the last Gold Cup at Hollywood Park.

      Have you heard anything on Orfevre lately. I was looking last night, but it was just old news Just don’t hear much about him. I know he’s on farm rest. They sounded concerned as I was about the bleeding from the lungs. Sure hope he is OK.

        Peggy. Last that I heard was that the UK Racing Post in late June still favored the Big O if he races in the Arc. They say that the Big O is a thinking horse, which makes him somewhat unpredictable. However, he’s got the talent and experience to take that race. Here’s hoping that he doing well with his time off. I’m not giving up on him. I would love to see that grand ole chestnut win.

          I’m not giving up on Orfevre either. He’s a fighter. Al did do spectacular. Great Race. Just too cute at the end.
          I watched a good bit of the racing from Woodbine today. I was so sorry they had to deal with the rain, but what do ya do.
          I always love seeing them walking around on the inside at Woodbine. They look so regal in the inside.

        • Peggy and JudyB. Al must be a thinking horse too. If you watch him in the final furlong of the race, he takes a look over at the crowd. I got a laugh out of that.

        • Thanks for posting the race, Max. It was very exciting. What a final stretch and Al was very proud as he acknowledged the cheers. Love it!
          My poor Fugue…hope she is OK. How about that turf flying,great racing.

          Peggy,Judy B. hoping we see Big O. soon. Last summer he gave us some real racing thrills! Our Big O. chestnut.

          Hope all had a safe and fun 4th. I hear a 16-1 won The Queens Plate,wow.

        • Ann NC. Midnight Aria went wire to wire at Woodbine to win the Queen’s Plate. He’s a $35k claimer who just won $600k for his US connections.
          There’s another story about that race. Spring in the Air aka Little Zenyatta was fourth. Her jockey was very seriously injured in a fall from a horse in a race a few years back and nearly died. Riding Spring today was his comeback to the big time. Mark Casse, who trained Tasty and other Lane’s End horses, took a chance and gave him the mount. Little Z unfortunately did not get an opportunity to dance step because the rain prevented much of an outdoor post parade. The horses stayed inside until they went to the gate.

          Wow, what a story on Midnight Aria; $35,000 Claimer winning a $600,00.00 race. Congrats to him.

          Glad Trainer Casse gave Jockey Gary Boulanger a chance to ride. Hope he does well. Little Z closed late in the race and was on Lasix; hopefully she will not have anymore bleeding issues. Hugs, JB

    Hello, all– was away all day yesterday for an out-of-town baby shower, so I missed all the racing. Hubby was to tape Jackson Bend’s but after 2 hours, it had not shown on TVG, which is all we get. Hope I can find the replay on BH site.

    @Janet Newman–you absolutely opted for the right choice if you were not completely at peace yet. Life is always the best choice until it’s no longer possible. Hugs.

    @Max–the horse you mentioned the other day, Bend Or, is one of our Money’s ancestors. Here is his link on the pedigree site. He was a son of Doncaster and was born in 1877.

    @Carol in Arkansas–so glad you have your hubby out of the slammer. I can sympathize. Mine had 5 hospital stays in 6 months last year. It was a nightmare. Hugs.

      Barbara. There was a great controversy at the time of the Derby in 1880 over whether the Bend’Or who won was really another foal by Doncaster called Tadcaster. They still don’t know for certain. But either way, a colt called Bend’Or won the Derby. He was said to be a grand ole chestnut with a very pleasant disposition. It is very neat to have his bloodlines in your Money.

        • JudyB. I think that the 1st Duke of Westminister won the English Derby four times. His favorite interest in life was horse racing. Naming his grandson Bendor is testimony to how much he loved that horse. The person Bendor who became the 2nd Duke always was known by his horsey nickname.

      Thanks for posting this. It is important to remember that Lee was not in charge of the Confederate army until Joe Johnston was wounded in the battle of Seven Pines. Before that he was an advisor to Jefferson Davis.

        I should have said The Army of Northern Virginia. There were several confederate armies, all under different commanders. That was one of the problems.

        • Dear Terry: One of my treasured memories of visiting the USA is a trip to Lexington – timed to be there are 9.30 am on October 12 – it was very special to “visit” with the General, and then to stop by Traveller’s final resting place. Cheers, KathyR.

      Sheena, I was at the Glascow airport waiting for a flight home. There was obviously something going on – gobs of security – but no one said anything. It wasn’t until I landed in Newark and saw people glued to TV screens that I knew what had happened. A very sad anniversary indeed.

      Has anyone mentioned what will happen to the remains of the horses buried there.
      I know Landaluce, the daughter of Seattle Slew is buried there.

        Old Friends in Georgetown, Kentucky brought the remains of Noor home. Perhaps they could find space for some if not all of these horses.

        They do have some time to determine what will happen. There are a lot more than the ones mentioned. There was a decree some years ago that horses who perished in races at HP were to be buried there.

        • Terry, I hope they make the time to take care of the horses remains, so we won’t be trying to exhume them from an eventual paved over who-knows-what. As I live near, I guess I’ll be crabbing about it all, for some time to come. But better now, than later.

        • Vicki-I wouldn’t say crabbing, I would say watchdog. They do have until the end of the year but I understand the issue of what to do about the remains is a real sticking point.

      I’ve been away for a week, so I didn’t even get to watch Wimbledon this year. Nice and surprising to me that Murray was able to beat Djokovic in straight sets! I’m guessing the home crowd must have helped too. Andy has fully come into his own, with the Olympics, US Open, and now Wimbledon.

    Was at Hollywood Park yesterday for the Hollywood Gold Cup and always think of the
    beautiful Zenyatta when I am there. I will continue to pray for this great historic race
    track. Everyone out there in the Zenyatta Nation, please continue to pray for divine
    intervention to save this track!!!

        You are correct, unfortunately. It does seem that everything these days is about money. This is very sad since probably in 20 years or so, they will want to tear down whatever they replace this lovely track with and throw up some other inferior and short-lived development. Unbelievable!

    It’s a wonderful thing to come here and see the always beautiful Zenyatta having visitors and coming right to the camera!! Her boys are looking so good, growing strong.
    Cozmo is handsome and is getting to be a big boy with a bridle and that little red prince is just like mom poking his nose at the camera. Love to watch them over and over and over again!
    Wishing the Moss’ good racing luck this year with John at Belmont & Saratoga. Thanks again and again to them, TeamZ and Lane’s End for keeping us in Zenyatta’s life.

      Nice to see. It doesn’t seem like it has been that long since she retired. So good to have this blog and all the pictures and videos of her.

      I think she started something since so many of the farms have developed facebook pages and are communicating much more with the fans now than before she did her diary and blog. Zenny the marvel!

    dear Max lovely pics of Kauto at Barbury today on his twitter(wish I knew how to post) everyone said how great he looked perfect weather perfect horse what more could you ask for?even moose was enjoying himself in the paddock Al Kazeem isn’t going for the King George and Queen Elizabeth seems more likely the Juddmonte.     Taking Lola Mae to the vet tomorrow at 9:30 to check out the loose tooth; still hasn’t fallen out. Here is a picture of my Queen in repose. She is so spoiled.

        Dear TC GP and Z Fans:

        Thanks TC. Well, the news is not good. The vet said that the small premolar that is loose should fall out on it’s own, but Lola Mae has a loose molar that I did not see. Even though I brush her teeth faithfully every night, the molar is so far back that I didn’t see it. That tooth, another one next to it and the little premolar (if it doesn’t fall out by itself) will all be extracted on July 30th. Have to bring her in at 8:30 in the morning and leave her for the day. The vet is going to clean her teeth as well.

        I hate leaving her, but it’s the best thing for her overall health. Poor baby hates going to the vet. She shakes from the time we walk in to the office until we leave.

        I’m nervous about her having to be anesthetized too. Pray that all goes well. Love and Hugs, JB

        • Please don’t worry for Lola Mae. My little 15lb. feist had a front tooth removed, as well as, had the whole dental cleaning. She came through the procedure & recouped quite nicely. I just had to keep her quiet and from jumping on the couch, etc. The vet even gave me the tooth for the tooth fairy. Hope all goes well.

          Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. Lola Mae only weighs 5 lbs, 11 oz. so they have to be very careful with the amount of anesthesia they give her. I was worried when she was spayed too, but she came through fine. Will be relieved when it’s over with. Love and Hugs, JB

        • Judy, Sorry about Lola Mae’s tooth problems. Try not to worry too much. I can understand how you feel since she is so small. My kittie PB (Pretty Boy) needs to have his teeth cleaned at this next visit. He is much bigger than Lola Mae (around 16 lbs) but I never like to have one anesthetized. Know that all your Z friends are here for you.

    Z family,

    I am writing to ask for prayers. I have tried my best, but I can’t get a loan for college. If I can’t find the money before August 1st, I can’t attend. I don’t know what else to do, and I’m scared I won’t make the money in time. Just prayers is all I ask for, as I don’t know what else to do anymore.

      Pati, I will pray for you, of course, but I know almost any student can qualify for financial aid. Have you thought about anything like that? You are super-smart and I know there are things you can do. Seriously, there are ways, but you have to look into it and find out how to apply and where.

        I maxed out on all my federal aid. The only thing that I can hope for is that the school gives me a higher scholarship next year; if I end up going. The first year is always the most expensive.

        • Also Pati, If you can get in somehow, perhaps they have a work-study program or something like that. I just know there has to be some way for someone as smart as you who really wants to go. Also, maybe a family member or friend could help you with a loan or sign for you to get a loan? I’m just throwing out ideas here, but I feel sure there must be something that can be done.

        • After my mom got her cancer, she and my dad had to call for bankruptcy because all the bills were just too much. That’s the reason they can’t be cosigners with me.

          My aunt and cousin have bad credit because my cousin is finishing her lawyer degree and my aunt has had a recent spark of bad luck as well.

          My grandparents believe that I will drop out the first month and don’t feel that I am a good investment.

          (I just realized, my family is either very unlucky, or very stingy.)

          Oh well, I’ll just work harder to get the money. I only need 6,600 a semester (down a lot from the original cost of 45,000+) but no one will loan me it. I have a lot of dog sitting to do.

          I tried for the work study, but they didn’t give it to me. I’ll try calling them tomorrow and asking about it. Maybe they’ll give it to me if I ask enough for it.

        • Gosh Pati, I’m sorry you are having a bad time with this. I’ll try to see if I can think of some other ideas and I will be praying for you. Everything will work out the way it is supposed to. I feel sure of it. Don’t give up on your dreams!

      Pati, I’m sorry to hear that your grandparents don’t have more faith in you. Without family support, even the moral kind, everything becomes harder. But I hope you don’t give up, and can find out WHY they didn’t give you work-study, etc., so maybe they will, after all.

      Pati, I don’t know what collage you are interested in but have you considered Midway Collage in Midway, Kentucky. It has an excellent equine program, is just down the road from Lexington and about 2 miles from WinStar.

      I will lift you up in my prayers. I know how difficult finances can be for collage as I was a single mother with a daughter to educate. God Bless.

      I was the first in my large family to ever go to college
      it was an enormous shock to the family
      I had scholarships and loans
      DO NOT GIVE UP….
      praying that some light will shine on your situation soon

        • Pati, I had the same situation when I went to college. However, I had to alter plans of going to UCD due to lack of loans and funds. I ended up going to the community college, got a Pell grant and financial aid. From there, I went to Sonoma University which my then husband paid for. There are ways, it might not be the direction you want at this time but, maybe, you can go that route? There’s plenty of grants out there that, I’m sure you’d qualify for. Keep your head held high because, you are worthy of it.
