July at Lane’s End

Happy Wednesday!

Last week was a special one for the web team. We packed our cameras and muck boots and headed to Lane’s End to catch up with Zenyatta and her boys.

We roamed around the paddock with Zenny and 13Z (with pockets full of peppermints), spent a day with Coz to observe his new routine, and took a lot of photos. In the coming weeks we’ll put up photo galleries and add new prints to the Zenyatta Shop. Also in the works is a video interview with Assistant Yearling Manager Cooper Sawyer—he’ll explain how Coz is being prepped for the next stage in his career.

Since it’s that time of year where we begin to make plans for the Breeders’ Cup, we’d like to announce that there will not be an official Zenyatta Celebration at the Breeders’ Cup this year. Instead, we’ll hold a special event online that everyone can take part in, from the races or from home. Details will be announced at a later date.

    Joyous! These photos make me so happy. Little Red is getting so tall. Cos is simply irresistable. Lane’s End is such and lovely place. We are all so blessed that the Z-team allows us to share in this wonderful world where dreams sometimes do come true.

    Team Z, can’t say thank you enough for the time you took to take these pictures and publish them for all of Z’s fans. Coz is growing into quite a looker and 13Z is just astounding. I’ve rarely seen a colt that’s not even 4 months old look that mature, muscled and balanced. I have to keep reminding myself that these colts haven’t even started training yet and no one knows what the future holds for them. If they take after their mom, they may not be mature enough to run in their third year and the truth is, no one knows yet how fast they may or may not be. Lots of “ifs” and only time will tell. I do know that whether they are good on the track or not, they will always be taken care of. I can’t imagine Ann and Jerry letting anything bad happen to them as happens to so many TBs that just don’t make it in racing. They are so goegeous and I wish only good things for them.

      Your comments are very well taken. Just making it to the races will be an accomplishment. Judy looked up the stats on the number of foals in a given year making it to the races and it isn’t pretty. We all hope for the best.

    For all of you that have prayed and sent warm thoughts for Sassy.
    We are waiting for the vet and our girl will be making the trip over the bridge soon.
    The last 2 days, she has developed labored breathing and her last trip outside, she stumbled and fell over. She looked at us and we know she is ready now.

    We will miss her, but I know she will be running pain free. I reminded her to say hello to TC’s and Pati’s pet friends.

    I am glad I can look at Z and her boys and feel some comfort.

      Although I know you were glad for the “extra time,” this is still heart-breaking. Please know that warm thoughts are headed your way. Sassy will be joining my two kitties over the rainbow bridge along with so many other Zenny friend pets. I’m so very sorry.

      I’ll never forget having to make the same decision for my “little girl” Gina when she told me it was time. As TC and other Z’sters have said, Sassy will be welcomed in heaven by all of our Sweeties who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

    So sorry to hear there will not be a Zenyatta celebration at the Breeders cup this year. We had already planned to attend and go to BHP b4 it is demolished to see where the queen lived during her racing career.
    We may go to Ca anyway. Who knows

    Thanks and high hoof to NBCSports for again broadcasting Summer at Saratoga. It begins on 7/27 so we won’t get to see Ebby but will see most of the big races. I will get to watch my beloved Muchie (MMM) run in the Whitney. Hope that dreaded Johnny V rides somewhere else that day!

    Just Love these Beautiful pictures Of Zenyatta and her boys. They are growing up to be so handsome and for sure they look much like her. When they hit the racing scene , I can tell you that all will just go crazy to see them race and they will remember Zenyatta in her racing days. This gives us a lot to look forward to. Lane’s End is doing a great job keeping the horses in good condition, Thank’s. The pictures of the Kitty is so cute. Thank’s so much for sharing the pictures with us. It mean’s a lot to see Zenny always looking good and healthy and very happy. Seeing her boy’s being born and growing up is a wonderful thing. Will be waiting for the next pictures as they arrive and that always makes my day. Love you very much Zenny and love your baby boys that are growing up fast.

    Thank you so much for these wonderful photos of Zenyatta and her boys. I will be very interested to hear the interview with Cooper Sawyer about what Coz is experiencing as his training now and in the future. He is my first experience with watching a foal become a yearling and beyond. We even saw his first visit by the farrier. I assume 13Z has had his hooves trimmed by now, but we’ve already seen how it goes plus we had that informative interview to go along with the visit.

    I made it into the Zentaastic Fantasy Capping League. Thanks to Sue Fl CPRC and Sandy NE Ohio for your help. Yes, I caved and called Sandy to get me through the final steps. I had a problem with terminology. Now I’m looking forward to the races. Hope I can be even a small asset to the team.

    @ Janet, My best thoughts and wishes are with you at this difficult time I know Sassy knew she was loved and you did the absolutely right thing for her. May your memories bring you comfort.

    Janet, I’m so sorry about your Sassy. It’s never easy saying goodbye to one of your beloved four legged friends. She’s pain free now and running at the Rainbow Bridge with my Abby and Leo and all the other precious fur babies that are there. Sending hugs and prayers your way.

    Wow, I can’t believe how big 13Z is! It’s hard to believe he’s not even 4 months old yet. He’s big and gorgeous, just like his mom. And Coz is growing up to be such a handsome young fellow. I can’t wait to see more pictures!

    I’m disappointed that there’s not going to be another Zenyatta party at the BC this year, but like Sandy said, we’ll find some way to get together. Last year’s BC was the trip of a lifetime and I can’t wait to do it all over again!

We are all roasting or toasting over here .They say it’s the driest July for over 200 yrs even the roads are melting the gritters have been out!!Hovis and I will not survive!!!       Here’s the link to Kauto’s fridge raid. Looks like there could be mints or other treats on top of that little fridge. He looks very well.
      My sympathies on the heat. Know what you are going through because it’s miserably hot practically everywhere. We need a break. Hope it cools down at Saratoga. Oxbow, Dan and the others are there.
      Nacarat is a beautiful gray. I would invite him to a wedding or to any other event. Would love to have a dinner with him. Carrot cake?

    Dear Sheena,

    Get yourself one of those spray bottles with a little fan like people use at the beach. Also, I’ve heard that “cool towels” work really well to wet down and drape over your neck. Ice cubes rubbed over pulse points work well too.
