Happy Wednesday!
Last week was a special one for the web team. We packed our cameras and muck boots and headed to Lane’s End to catch up with Zenyatta and her boys.
We roamed around the paddock with Zenny and 13Z (with pockets full of peppermints), spent a day with Coz to observe his new routine, and took a lot of photos. In the coming weeks we’ll put up photo galleries and add new prints to the Zenyatta Shop. Also in the works is a video interview with Assistant Yearling Manager Cooper Sawyer—he’ll explain how Coz is being prepped for the next stage in his career.
Since it’s that time of year where we begin to make plans for the Breeders’ Cup, we’d like to announce that there will not be an official Zenyatta Celebration at the Breeders’ Cup this year. Instead, we’ll hold a special event online that everyone can take part in, from the races or from home. Details will be announced at a later date.
Enjoy!

Wonderful pictures! They brighten my day so much. Thank you for sharing. Coz looks so mature. Can’t wait to hear more about his year. Z looks so peaceful and content. I love what we see of that body on 13Z. Can’t wait to see what will become of these foals as they take their paths to maturity. Right now it looks like they are in horse heaven.

Mike Smith opts to ride Royal Delta at Delaware on Saturday
instead of Princess of Sylmar or Fed Biz.
Terry Crow
Royal Delta threw in a clunker in her first race after going to Dubai, which happens often. Expect a big turnaround on Saturday.

Best of luck to Eblouissante!! http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/79483/eblouissante-could-dazzle-in-shuvee-return

How cool is it that Eblouissante is also 17 hands as Z is too… Wonder how big Coz and Z13 will mature to? If they too will be in that range.

Opening Day at Del Mar
Attendance: 43,030
Handle: $4,395,595
Figures look very good.
Terry Crow
Del Mar is an unusual situation. The meet is held during vacation time, much like Saratoga, and opening day is always well attended. Crowds will go down, but not to the level of other SoCal tracks, and the meet will do quite well. However, this is not an indication that California racing is getting well.
Anita from SoCal
Zenny’s boys are growing up so beautiful, and she is as beautiful as ever. Thank you so much for the pictures Team Z. They warm my heart <3 <3 <3

Dear Judy
Wonder which race they will choose for Gabby.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
She won her Maiden Claiming race in November 2012, as you know, and hasn’t raced since then.
My guess is that the new owners won’t want to take the chance of losing her in a Claiming Race, so maybe they’re looking for an Allowance Race or Allowance/Optional Claiming, where you have the choice to enter your horse for a claiming price or not. We’ll have to wait and see. Because it’s her first race in quite a while, they’ll probably choose a race where they feel she can be competitive in her return.
Go Gabby. Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks for the fabulous photos of Zenyatta, Coz and 13Z,so natural and showing their own unique personalities.Coz reminds me of his Mom in the way that he carries himself and in the way he is so connected to everyone and everything. I wish him the best and appreciate the opportunity to stay in touch with him as he grows. Zenyatta is so beautiful and such an amazing Mom. She continues to grace us with her presence and her joy in being a mother. 13Z is thriving and is in the best of hands as Z imparts her love and knowledge to him. Great photos, much appreciated.!

Royal Delta entered to defend Del ‘Cap
By Sports Network Miami Herald Posted on Wednesday, 07.17.13
Champion mare Royal Delta will take on five rivals Saturday as she defends her crown in the 76th running of the $750,000 Delaware Handicap (Del ‘Cap) at Delaware Park.
Trained by Bill Mott, Royal Delta will attempt to become the first back-to- back winner of the 1 1/4-mile stakes since Nastique in 1988-89. The other consecutive winning horses were Endine (1958-59), Obeah (1969-70) and Blessing Angelica (1971-72). Susan’s Girl won in 1973 and 1975.
With Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith again riding, Royal Delta will leave from post 3 and is the even-money morning-line favorite. In her 18-race career the mare has 10 wins for $3.8 million.

…
hope you and your boys are having a stellar day
…
got signed up for the “capping” to start soon….it was a lot of fun last yr
….
kiss the boys for me…

Carol, I read Steve’s piece on Omaha and Morton. It sure is a shame that nobody came to the front when the track closed to move him before construction started. Triple Crown winner and a fine representative of their State! Just a shame.

Thank you to all of Team Z for the wonderful pictures of Zenyatta, Little Red and Coz. Coz seems to have that sweet peaceful look about him as does Zenyatta. Of course, we all know how she became a spitfire once she hit the track. I wonder if that look comes from being loved and well taken care of by their humans. They neither one have ever felt cruelty.
Little Red has “that” look in his eye. He is a big beautiful boy who loves the camera. He just might be a handful to train.
Crista Worthy
As an avid follower of Zenyatta’s “diary” I really appreciate that you folks are keeping Zenyatta’s thousands of fans up-to-date on her life as well as that of Cozmic One and 13Z. What a joy to see such beautiful and well-cared-for horses with such personality. I think Zecretariat is an awesome name for 13Z!
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Love that name!
