Happy Wednesday!
Last week was a special one for the web team. We packed our cameras and muck boots and headed to Lane’s End to catch up with Zenyatta and her boys.
We roamed around the paddock with Zenny and 13Z (with pockets full of peppermints), spent a day with Coz to observe his new routine, and took a lot of photos. In the coming weeks we’ll put up photo galleries and add new prints to the Zenyatta Shop. Also in the works is a video interview with Assistant Yearling Manager Cooper Sawyer—he’ll explain how Coz is being prepped for the next stage in his career.
Since it’s that time of year where we begin to make plans for the Breeders’ Cup, we’d like to announce that there will not be an official Zenyatta Celebration at the Breeders’ Cup this year. Instead, we’ll hold a special event online that everyone can take part in, from the races or from home. Details will be announced at a later date.
Enjoy!

Zenyatta, your regal self looks stunning. You carry yourself so well, dear one. CoZ, look at you!!! I can hardly wait to learn more about the new phase of your life. You are so very handsome! My prayers and heart are with you as you grow and mature. PrinZling, WOW! You look so grown-up!! You are certainly a handsome spare who seems to be a scamp, much like PrinZ Harry!
I realize it is impossible to have the 3 of you in one shot; however, perhaps the Web Team could create some magic for Zenyatta Nation.

It need not matter which day, any day to see pictures and updates of Z and Z13 and Coz iz a GREAT day :-)
I love that pic of Z13 with the sunset!!! Both colts are developing into handsome individuals! Coz looks like he loves racing around on those legs of his as does Z13.
Z13 is especially striking while both colts are I love the rich copper penny chestnut. He reminds me of of my favorite fictional horse characters in the Thoroughbred series that were portrayed as chestnuts that gleamed like brand new copper pennies (I was a Thoroughbred series addict particularly of Ashleigh’s Wonder, Wonder’s Pride, Wonder’s Champion, etc.)
Z13 = Zenyatta’s Pride? (Still like Zenergy too!)
Happy Wednesday everyone! Thank you to Lanes End and everyone who continues to share Zenyatta with us. It is not every day that we get updates on the mares; fact I was just looking through a list that I had of some of my favorites and many have gone on to broodmares, you don’t hear about them as much. They include; Octave, Mauralakana, Folklore, Bushfire, Ermine, Rags to Riches, Wait a While, Balance, Wonder Lady Anne L, Stardom Bound, Ashado, Sightseek, Dreaming of Anna, Ginger Punch, Hystericalady, Panty Raid, Stellar Jayne, Bare Necessities, Behaving Badly, Blind Luck, Havre de Grace, Plum Pretty, Indian Blessing, Awesome Maria, Balletto, Swap Fliparoo, Sweet Catomine, Life is Sweet, Film Maker, Island Fashion, Six Perfections, Ouija Board, Forever Together, Healthy Addiction, Honey Ryder, Jewel, Round Pond, Proud Spell… this list can go forever as I have lots of mares and fillies whom I watch through pedigree query etc to see how their progeny are.
Thank you for sharing Zenyatta and her boys with us! Can’t wait to see the photos of Coz in his new stage of the journey to becoming a racehorse.

beautiful see someone else thinks of Z13 as prince harry a filly by war front??

THANK YOU!! Everyone looks FABULOUS!! I have had one busy day today and what a nice Surprise to come home and see these Pics!! Thank You Team Z and LEF and Mr & Mrs Moss. Coz has really Grown Up! What a Beautiful head he has and Little Red and Z look Great and all so HAPPY! HUGS TO ALL
Paul
Zenyatta, it seems as though both of your boys are doing great. They grow so fast, don’t they? Humans say that about their kids as well. They will both be adult horses before you know it. They will do their mother proud.

Stunning as always,Coz is such a handsome young fellow. I really loved the head shot of him. And Z 13 is growing such a good looking boy also. Zenyatta always the CLASS lady. Thanks for the photos.

Hey Judy,
Yes have to live each day to the fullest.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
A little sad today. Just lost a family friend. He and my dad were real good friends.
Just thought this man would always be around. He was a little bit of a JR Ewing type.
I can just see my Dad showing him around heaven..
Have to live each day to the fullest. Know they are shaking hands and glad to see each other. That helps my heart.
TIzHerself
Sorry for your loss – it has definitely been a year for losses. My grandpa (my dad’s dad) who was 94 passed away in January just after New Year’s… then not even six weeks later his son, my uncle (my dad’s brother, the middle brother) who was 61 passed away unexpectedly and suddenly in March. Someone told me everything in threes and I guess it was the same for a close lady friend of my grandpa’s, whom I considered a surrogate grandmother (my dad’s mother, grandma, passed twenty years ago due to breast cancer, and gramps met his second kindred spirit two years after; the close friend was also widowed) passed and her memorial was just last week…
Am still trying to reason through everything and remember the good times.
Take care of yourself and am sorry again for your loss.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Tizherself
Thank You so much. I will sure miss John. Can’t believe he’s gone.
I am so sorry for you loss too. And, the three’s thing that is definately true. I had a friend that use to be an EMT and he told me that when they’ld have one to pass lookout it was going to end up three. A cycle there.
So sorry for your losses. I just have to look up and see them happy.
I am pretty happy, though now I found my Gabby that I fell in love with at the sale last year. Lost track of her for a while and was frantic could not find her anywhere. She sold again, but with Judy’s help found her she’s at Del Mar. Now will just be sitting on pins and needles hoping she stays safe.

Dear TH:
Sorry for your losses. Hugs, JB
TIzHerself
Thanks :) And again Peggy, sorry for yours. Always have the memories :-)
My uncle who passed started the horse craze in me putting me on a kid’s pony as a small kiddie and leading the pony around… the western saddle that I still have as a keepsake in the horse room (full of all the Thoroughbred biographies that I can find and more to be added soon), a wall tributing my all time fav horse Skip Away (I love Z, too!!!) and Z has her own shrine too… as does Rachel, Barbaro, Bandini, Octave, Folklore, Secretariat, Rags to Riches… while my uncle was the Quarter Horse man, the Thoroughbred passion started with Skip Away and exploded from there and now is permanent staple… hope one day to be able to if not own one to do something where can analyze pedigrees (I am on pedigree query and bloodhorse, etc. more than anything)
This year has put lots into perspective and they say that everything for a reason and in all the bad there can be good… next week is the start of the good as have four weddings this summer, one in which am a maid of honor (as one that was previously supposed to for my friend had to cancel with two weeks to the wedding – eeek) and then three more – in which will be accompanied by a friend that I haven’t seen in a while but he is a good friend of the family so ….
and the never ending supply of Z photos and updates soothes one’s soul :-) I hope to one day meet that Z (and Rachel, too!!) (I would probably cry!) in 2010 had planned to see my first love in racing (Skip Away) and it was October 2010 that I was in the Bluegrass and unfortuantely Skip had passed that May… but Z was there to heal… even though she lost the Classic to Blame… I will never forget being in the presence (never got a good photo even though was the sixth row from the track, the crowd was very thick) when she ran by the first time by, it was silent and you could just hear her…
anyways got carried away and I tend to ramble… thanks everyone :-)
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Tizherself
You are not rambling at all. just loved reading the post. I got to see Zenyatta in 2010 as well. I might should say the top of her head. I saw the race but I went down to the saddling area before the race. I was about (oh gosh many rows back of people) waiting to see her.) So funny I was standing on my tippy toes and holding on to the guy in front of me. Total Stranger, oh my but everybody was kind of holding on as there were so many peopleclose together. Everybody I think understood. I was trying to peer over so many shoulders. Just too funny now. But wasn’t it cold that day. I was just freezing.
Just could not get warm. So many great memories. Thanks so much for bringing that up.
I rode my first pony at about age 6 and have been a horse lover ever since. I think sometimes its just in your blood. (That Love)
TIzHerself
I wish I had seen her in the saddling area – however I was not thinking about it right and when went to see the situation was I believe after the Mile or the Sprint the paddock area was like 50,000 deep lol…
was six rows from the track however there were people in their excitement and whom did not have the seatiing in that area rushed in to get a glimpse of her and ended up standing in front of all of us who did have the tickets to those areas so any chance of getting photos in the post parade or her going by was zilch….
tried to convince my mom to be late on our flight back to Alberta the next day because I wanted to see her on that Sunday however we did have to get back… I hope I get to see her in person!
That trip to Kentucky was able to see Rock Hard Ten (by Kris S) and he was also a 17 hh monster… absolutely wonderful big brute of a horse :-)… just putting a hand on his shoulder and feeling the power in him, the look in his eyes… I can only imagine being in Z’s orb.
Cigar, A.P. Indy and Curlin were that, too… the power and the presence about them… I got to see Giacomo in the flesh and give him a mint :-) he was the one that got away as I was set in my first year to be able to bet to put a couple dollars on him in the 05 Derby. My dad teased me about him being 50-1 (I liked Giacomo because I liked Holy Bull) and so I went with my other choice Bandini. I believe Bandini was 19th that afternoon and Giacomo flew by all comers to win the Derby at 50-1… of course called dad after the race to tell him. Seeing Giacomo up close was pretty special.
Seeing Monarchos was pretty special too… he was a clown with raising his head and moving his lips aorund.. Funny Cide, Da Hoss, and all the ones at KY Horse Park. My camera was not working the day we saw Old Friends and remember Wicked North, Marquetry, little Silver Charm, Commentator (he could not get enough mints!)
Though he was not yet who he is now, Wise Dan was also on the track in the 2010 Breeders Cup… I believe it was the sprint. Saw Goldikova’s 3 peat, Uncle Mo crushing the juveniles, Awesome Feather rolling in the Juvenile Fillies. Blind Luck and Harve de Grace in the post parade under the lights (pictures didn’t turn out so good) Gio Ponti in the post parade… saw Grand Slam, Munnings, and Giant’s Causeway at Coolmore, Slew City Slew, Indian Charlie, Proud Citizen, Istan, Flashy Bull, Brother Derek, Divine Park and Badge of Silver at Airdrie.. Einstein, Awesome Again, Ghostzapper and GIacomo at Adena. Pauls Mill to see Bellamy Road, Summer Bird, Artie Schiller, etc. Bandini, Successful Appeal and Songandaprayer at Walmac… Tiznow, Colonel John, etc at WinStar… Smarty Jones, Point Given, Flower Alley, and the crew at Three Chimneys (Big Brown was shuttled but will see him maybe next time)
At Nuckols Farm where Monarchos was, got to see a Canadian champion Home At Last (a real treat!! I did not know where he was)
It was too bad and bittersweet that did not get to see Skip Away in the flesh however some things just were not meant to be – saw that Hopewell Farm was auctioned off the other day – the end of the era. They did let me go in and see where Skippy’s paddock was and it was great to see where he was.. when I return will make the trip back to Old Friends as they had his burial site moved there and a proper headstone, too…

Since the Omaha Project began on this site, thought I would point out that Omaha has finally been honored. Check out Steve Haskin’s “The Story of Mort and Omaha” at http://www.bloodhorse.com. It is a recent post. (Hangin’ with Haskin series). Zenyatta is distantly related to the third Triple Crown winner.

Dear Allie,
Thanks for this link. Steve Haskin always does such an outstanding job. Omaha was a fine horse and deserves recognition and respect. Sure do wish his final resting place could be located so he wouldn’t be lost anymore. He certainly WAS the Horse of the Year even though he wasn’t given the title. A gorgeous legend!
All the Best
