Happy Friday!
We close off a quiet week with a few fun photos, courtesy of Alys. Zenyatta and her boys are delighting in the final days of spring. Break out the fly masks, here come the dog days of summer. As you can see, Coz has found a new way to keep himself entertained, it’s called a Jolly Ball. The farm likes to give them to horses that like to stay busy. Coz loves his!
Best of luck to all those participating in the Belmont Stakes. Have a great weekend.
Enjoy!

Mucho Macho Man and My Happy Face Return
Zipse at the Track Horse Racing Nation June 11, 2013 11:14 AM
They may only be overnight stakes, but Friday’s $90,000 Criminal Type Stakes, and Thursday’s Lotka Stakes for the same purse, have attracted a couple of very big names to consecutive weekday afternoons at Belmont Park.
Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic runner-up, Mucho Macho Man will look to make a triumphant return in the mile-and-a-sixteenth Criminal Type, carded as the 3rd race on Friday. The 5-year-old millionaire hasn’t made it back to the races since not being persevered with after disliking the track nearly five months ago in a sloppy edition of the Sunshine Millions Classic.
Excerpt from article
One day earlier, the $90,000 Lotka, also scheduled as race 3, has attracted the returning My Happy Face. The daughter of Tiz Wonderful will be making her first start for trainer Chad Brown, after being transferred from the barn of Rudy Rodriguez, in the flat mile affair.

A Poem for Pati Szpyra on Her Eighteenth Birthday
(June 12, 2013)
Dear Pati, we’re sending you
Very happy birthday salutations!
And how awesome is it too
That further congratulations
Will in just two days be due
For your high school graduation!
Dear Pati, as we your posts review,
It’s clear your dreams and aspirations
Around the horse do coalesce,
In all its nobleness.
Pati knows with exactitude
What she wishes to do
And blessedly also has the aptitude:
Yes, Pati already does us impress
With her equine knowledge,
But just wait until this fall
When she’ll be off to college
And as always, without vacillation,
Will be giving it her all
As she
Her degree
Does pursue.
Her major she already has declared–
’Tis Equine Business Management–
And she’ll complete certification
In equine reproduction, too.
With this firm foundation
Pati will be well prepared
For her future intent:
To breed
Thoroughbred steeds
And mares
And train the progeny to race
At her very own place.
This goal is no chimera
For our dear Pati Szpyra,
Nor a fanciful mirage.
Cazenovia, her chosen school,
Will be perfect to meet her needs
And provide every requisite tool.
While getting her education,
She’ll also advance in equitation,
Especially in the art of dressage.
Since Pati was nine,
She rides
Every day,
And at Cazenovia,
She’ll train
To further refine
Her touch on each rein
And on her mount’s sides,
In much the same way
As Andrés Segovia
Would masterfully coax the strings
To make his guitar divinely sing.
Dear Pati,
We hope this day will to you bring
Marvelous things
And a lively wingding
From friends, your mama and pappy,
And most of all, may you be deeply happy!
Happy birthday, Pati, and many, MANY more!
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark

Thanks to Trina for another winner (and I’m sure Pati will be raising winners herself!)
Pati- 2 Days to Graduation
Thank you!
I love tinkering with bloodlines. I want to see how “international” I can make the pedigrees on my farm. Mixed dogs have always been said to be smarter, faster, and healthier than their purebred counter parts (in some cases) so why not try to get every country’s influence into the horse blood lines? Animal Kingdom is doing pretty well. Plus, it gives me a reason to travel overseas and I love flying!! However, I hope one day that my farm will be like Stonestreet for racing quality and Lanes End for stallion quality, but that might be a lot to want all at once. Hehe

Some of you kind people have asked me to post more horse jokes. The rest of you will have to suffer through this one. A horse went to the Western Union office to send a telegram. He got out a blank form, addressed the telegram to Dobbin, and wrote neigh, neigh, neigh, neigh, neigh, neigh, neigh, neigh, neigh. The clerk examined the paper and politely told the horse “There are only nine words here. You can send another “neigh” for the same price.” “But,” the horse replied, “then the telegram would make no sense at all.”

Interesting. I will like it better when there is no need to make a point of the gender of the jockey. There are so many capable female jockeys that I do not believe that it should be considered remarkable any more.
Keta
Terry,
I agree and I know that Rosie does.
She has made that clear in more than one interview.
It was good having not only names but races won, money & accomplishments.
There was one interesting omission-Chantal Sutherland.

This is a good time to include a story about when I used to visit my mother’s horses. Her trainer’s barn was right next to Rex Ellsworth and I used to see Swaps on a regular basis and Bill Shoemaker was very nice to me. I will never forget him. Wish I didn’t know now about Ellsworth that I didn’t know then. The main reason my mother got out of racing was that her trainer was murdered by a family member (his family).
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Terry Crow,
Whaaaat? Tell us more.

There’s really not much to tell. He disappeared one day and there was a lot of concern as he was not the type to not take care of business. His body was found in the trunk of his car and they eventually arrested his son-in-law for the crime.

Hi all,
Just wanted to thank all the wonderful people on this site who took the time to leave heartfelt condolences for dear Faith. This is truly the most caring of all the Zen sites.
Penny emailed me and left this message: “Our Faith is now looking down on her babies and running free, out of pain, over the rainbow bridge.” Freddie has called out for mama but Penny put him with her old appy mare Poka and she has adopted him……thank God, I won’t lose any sleep over that worry. Love you all for the caring, horse loving people you are, who care about all horses even those who have been thrown away.. hugs sue

Sue–thank you for the report back to us. Made me tear up. You know the ones that are thrown away are the ones who need us most. Praying for healing of all hearts involved, including Freddie’s. Love and hugs.

Well said, Barbara. Thank you for the update, Sue, and prayers for all who loved Faith, from near and from afar. Run free now, dear Faith. Hugz.

I could not expressed things better Barbara.
This is the most caring site, I sure do agree! Perhaps Freddie could use a Teddy bear such as the orphan foal that Max let us know about.
love n hugs

Dear Sue
It made my heart break too. I know now that Faith is out of pain and Freddy will do just fine Poka is a amazing appy mare I took to here last year I have a picture somewhere in my computer of the 2 of us. This was Penny first Rescue that she had to make the heart wrenching decision to let Faith Go. The first is the worst and I feel Penny is comfortable with the decision thanks to all of you and your words of support

Where to begin. It seems like there’s so much going on today.
First: Happy Birthday to Pati, the 18th bday is a huge one! Not only that but, to have your high school graduation in the same week is remarkable. I learned more about you through Trina’s poem. Keep your dreams a live and don’t fall prey to peer pressure in College. Leaving home and moving into a Dorm can be a very exciting but scary thing. I can’t wait to see your name by a winning TB as owner/breeder. That would be awesome. But, for now, enjoy your youth and your special day and graduation. Congrats!
Faith, Rest In Peace and prayers for Freddy, Patty and her hubby.
Love in Dumplinghood!
ps. If you haven’t listened to the clips of Liza G. Fly’s new album, I suggest you check it out. Also, found out that Jerry Moss started a new label in which she was signed. Very interesting. High hoof, Liza and Jerry!
Pati-2 days to graduation
I’ll make sure to keep that in mind! I have so many wishes to print out, and tack to my dorm wall, I’ll have my own personalized wallpaper! No restyling required. LOL

Dear Z Fans:
John Shirreffs just got, what I think was, his first win at Belmont today with Maiden Special Weight winner Peace and Justice. J. Alvarado aboard. Very impressive win; lead from start to finish. Congrats JS, JA and P and J. Hugs, JB

Thanks,JB.
Terrific news.
Diana Stuart - WOO HOO JOHN!
Thank you for this great news! Haven’t been to my Virtual Stable yet today to see it. P and J is Moss-owned also, I believe, so nice gift for them too.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Yes, the TVG guys said it was his first win at Belmont! WOO HOO indeed to our John. Sadly, he is not a Moss owned horse, but he sure ran a heck of a race!

Dear Diana, Sandy and Z Fans:
Peace and Justice is owned by Justice Family Racing, but interestingly he is by War Front out of Smart Strike mare, Strike the Sky.
Rumor has it????? Bodes well for the choice of War Front for Z if it’s true. Love and Hugs, JB
Pati-2 days to graduation
Smart Strike is very compatible with many bloodlines. Example today for P&J.

Wonderful news. Thanks, Judy! Hugs.

seems dawn approach is a surprise entry in the st james palace he should cope with the distance hope he wont get so upset this time he has magician to contend with wonder if moosie will decide he’d like a day out??? hugs sheena

There was a tribute to Sir Henry on TVG today. I didn’t realize that he was still such a young man. RIP.
Max
Sheena. Yes, I read that Henry Cecil had a special training ability with fillies. Bobby Frankel also had that gift. I’m still in shock over Sir Henry’s passing, a huge loss to racing. Kauto tweeted that Cecil was a legend. I too am concerned about Warren Place. I think that he has 2 sons and a daughter, but I do not know if they have inherited his love for horses. Such talent is rare.
As to Moosie, he’s still teasing us with the possibilities. Run Moose run.
