Happy Friday!
We close off a quiet week with a few fun photos, courtesy of Alys. Zenyatta and her boys are delighting in the final days of spring. Break out the fly masks, here come the dog days of summer. As you can see, Coz has found a new way to keep himself entertained, it’s called a Jolly Ball. The farm likes to give them to horses that like to stay busy. Coz loves his!
Best of luck to all those participating in the Belmont Stakes. Have a great weekend.
Enjoy!

Great race Mikey, Vic and I are so happy for you and everyone came home looking safe. I think we will see some really good racing in the coming months.
It would have been a treat to see a Triple Crown horse for the 40th anniversary of Secretariat’s win but at least his magnificent year has been recognized with the 31 length winning pole at Belmont.
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Brenda,
You are so right! Glad to see that 31 length win recognized with the pole honoring Secretariat — my hero!
Great to hear from you — hope all is well. Hugs

Great to see you here, Brenda! I think of you often but it’s been a difficult 6 months “chez Abigail” so I didn’t want to call as long as I’m glum. Much love & hugs to you & Vic!

By the way, mega congratulations to Mr. Campbell and Dogwood Stables!
After all, Aiken, South Carolina is just down the road a piece from North Carolina!
More Cheers!

Peggy (N) South Georgia,
Huge Congratulations to Point Of Entry………..Great Job, Know Dad Dynaformer is very proud.
Dear Max, Congrats on his win, I know your very happy.

Dear Peggy and Max:
I was going to Exacta Box POE with Speaking of Which. SOW was scratched so I played a 10 cent Superfecta. I had the first three, but my fourth choice ran 7th.
Point of Entry ran a powerfu, determinedl race just like his Daddy. Here’s the video of Dynaformer’s win in the 1988 Discovery Handicap. Hugs, JB

Dear Max:
Yes, Big D was very impressive and handsome. So sorry to hear of Point of Entry’s injury. Hope he recovers fully and can return to racing. Hugs, JB

Thanks for that Dynaformer vid, Judy — he did look very strong and determined.
Max
Peggy. Was happy, but now upset about the injury. Bad luck. Hope he gets better to race again. I heard that he will be a big attraction at stud as a successor to Big D so that things might go that route instead of back to racing. Have to await events.
shirleeinindy
Injury to Point Of Entry? I had not heard. Is it serious?
Peggy (N) South Georgia,
Dear Max and Judy,
Oh no had not heard about the injury. I usually go into Blood horse first everyday. but I didn’t today. Oh I hope it’s not too bad. Will have to keep vigalent posts on him.
Ingrid Arnone
My dear Zenny, today I lost I got only three horses on the pick 6.
Last year I got five horses I lost by one, the paid out was $ 156.000.
Well! Maybe next year…. Boohoo
Congratulations! To all the winners!
Hugs, Ingrid.

Dear Z Girl,
Hope you are having a good weekend! All the very best to you, 13Z, and Cozmic — I know you are happy and proud of your dear Mike Smith for the win with Palace Malice today! Alas, no Triple Crown winner again this year, but 3 good horses gave us an exciting series, nonetheless.
Goodnight and sweet dreams! Love and hugs
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall and Z Fans:
No Triple Crown, but it’s been a much better year so far than last year when there were so many injuries to our three year olds. Outstanding efforts by Orb, Oxbow and Palace Malice in each leg of the TC.
Maybe it will be Z’s boys that give us the long awaited prize. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
If not one of Z’s boys, perhaps Jess’s Dream or Rachel’s Valentine Girl? In a couple of years it is going to be so exciting to see these guys and the girl hit the track. Praying for all to stay healthy and free of injury.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
I guess this is why the Triple Crown is so coveted. It is the horse and rider that shows up on that given day. There are too many variables to consider. Congrats to Palace Malice and Mikey, Oxbow and my favorite pick Orb who placed third. As one of the trainers said in an interview, it is all about timing when you run a mile & a half.
I am very happy for all of them.
Zenyatta, I think of how you raced 20 races and won all but the last, the most exciting time of my life. I prayed that you would be safe each time I saw you, that was more important to me. You truly were “Unbelievable”, a once in a lifetime horse, the Queen on and off the track. Now you are an unbelievable wonderful Momma to two awesome colts! Thank you for being in my life, I love you forever.
Goodnight and a wonderful tomorrow
Love n Kisses n hugs, and to your boys, Auntie Sally B
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Sally B.–you are so right about the variables. That’s why I’m not a betting woman–lol!

RACE REPLAY VIDEO AT END OF ARTICLE
Palace Malice Upsets Belmont; Oxbow Second, Orb Third
Story by: Jenny Kellner
Long shot Palace Malice emerged as the hero of Todd Pletcher’s record five starters in the 145th running of the Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Stakes, charging through the stretch to a 3 ¼-length victory over Preakness winner Oxbow, with Kentucky Derby winner and 2-1 favorite Orb finishing third in the 1 ½-mile “Test of the Champion” at Belmont Park.
Ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, Palace Malice ran in fourth, just off Freedom Child and Oxbow as Frac Daddy was gunned through a quarter-mile in 23.11 seconds and a half in a 46.66. Turning into the backstretch, Palace Malice continued to run easily as Oxbow took command and led the field of 14 3-year-olds through three quarters in 1:10.95. With Frac Daddy having already folded, the swift pace began to take its toll on Freedom Child. As they headed into the far turn Palace Malice drew alongside Oxbow and stuck a nose in front approaching the quarter pole.
Ahead by two lengths turning for home, Palace Malice was never threatened even as Oxbow stubbornly refused to give up. Orb, who had one horse beaten in the early going, worked his way up to finish third, another 1 ¾ lengths back, with Incognito making a run to gain fourth.
Palace Malice, owned by Cot Campbell’s Dogwood Stable, ran with blinkers off and completed the 1 ½ miles in 2:30.70 for his second victory in eight career starts. In his previous start, the son of 2007 Belmont Stakes runner-up Curlin finished 12th when running with blinkers in the Kentucky Derby, and he also owns a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Blue Grass and a third in the Grade 2 Risen Star in 2013.

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
So cute – thanks Keta. Boy I did not see him coming yesterday (before the race :-). As was noted above, too many variables across 14 horses to make a good guess. Congrats to PM and his connections and Mikey of course. So glad that both Orb and Oxbow were able to show that they weren’t a “flash in the pan.” Couldn’t believe how far back Freedom Child wound up after his previous big victory at Belmont – guess he just didn’t have enough gas for the distance?
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Grrrrrr – this is supposed to be in response to the NEXT post from Keta with the baby picture of Palace Malice. Oh for an “edit” button.

Only two weeks now before “Orfevre” races. I am just cherishing this year of his racing. Don’t know what I’ll do when they retire him. I’ll worry about that later.

Peggy. Also hoping for an Big O win.
Peggy (N) South Georgia,
Yes, I’m going to be real optimistic. Win Big O……………………Know he can do it.
Max
Peggy. If the Big O is in the right frame of mind, no horse can outrun him. If he parks his quirks, he is probably unbeatable. Go Big O.

orfevre have good care of your health and legs, then carefully try to breeze race, then have rest for some time, then choose next race, like black caviar in her 20th+ races, happy, all horses came home safe breezed belmont, zenny your 18 race was happy too, coz you are beautyfull with ball, zenny do you know how to move tip of your soft nose to left right, when horses do it they let me smile, beautyfull zenny lil red 13z coz walk and breeze on air with mates, some cool is in morning

I was missing Coz and there you are!! I see Zenny in you so much. You are a ham and so full of life! Thanks Alys for the fun photos/video of Coz and the lovely shots of Zenyatta and 13Z.
shirleeinindy
Thanks for the photos and video of Coz. He is not our little boy anymore. So handsome and grown up.
Our Mike did it again. As always, he did not mistreat his horse to get the win. Racing needs more people like him, Gary Stevens, Shug and Cot Campbell.
Happy for the beautiful Curlin. Guess he will have even more ladies seeking his affection
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Congratulations to Palace Malice and Mikey on a great win. Also to Oxbow and Orb and special mention to Incognito as the only horse running who was NOT on Lasix. His owner said he knew he’d be at a disadvantage but refuses to run his young horses on it. WOW, that’s pretty courageous. He came in 4th!!
Congrats also to POE and Optimizer on their great stretch duel, and Rosie and Power Broker on their great win.
It was a great racing day with no tragic breakdowns or jockey injuries. Thank God.
Hope you are having a great day beautiful Mama Zen, just love seeing you with Red enjoying your life.
And thanks again LE team for that video, I’ve watched it 5 times and it is hysterical. CoZ is magnificent. hugs to all

Yes, congrats to Mike. But I’m still mad at him for letting Zenyatta’s lose and not sure if I’ll ever get over it. Mike looked good in his polka dots and Palace is one beautiful doll.

Dear Keta:
Sorry POE is injured. Hoping for a successful surgery. Weather he races again or not is not as important as getting him through this. Praying for a full recovery. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Too true. Getting him back to health is the all important thing. He’s such a great race horse that I would like to see him return to the track. If not, he can carry on Big D’s legacy. Get well POE.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Yes, surgery is tomorrow. Prayers for his recovery, whether racing is in his future or not.
Peggy (N) South Georgia,
Dear Keta,
Thank you for the Update.

Brenda S.: So glad to hear from fellow Canadian. I’m an admitted Zenyatta freak & proud of it. Love this site. Feels like family, even though we are all a bit nuts. Is OCD about all things horsey a terminal thing? LOL. Just love reading all the posts here. I’ve learned an incredible amount about racing just by reading what you all share. Thanks so much. So great about Mike & Palice Malice; I’m such a fan.

Sheena. You’re right. Even if Moosie shows and goes into the gate, we still won’t know for sure until the gates open. Will he run to the finish line, or will he trot back to his stall?

point of entry not quick walk to well health, zenny smile, would horses can to sale and to buy we would buy orfevre back to kentucky, think is enough of clean water and green grass for all horses in kentucky fields
