Happy Friday!
We close off a quiet week with a few fun photos, courtesy of Alys. Zenyatta and her boys are delighting in the final days of spring. Break out the fly masks, here come the dog days of summer. As you can see, Coz has found a new way to keep himself entertained, it’s called a Jolly Ball. The farm likes to give them to horses that like to stay busy. Coz loves his!
Best of luck to all those participating in the Belmont Stakes. Have a great weekend.
Enjoy!

Thank-you Lane’s End, for all the lovely photos and videos that you send us; you know how important Zenyatta, and her life, beyond racing is to us. She came into our lives, and made us fall in love with her. As a race horse, she was “Unbelievable”; as a personality, she had it, with a “P”; NO ONE COULD HELP BUT FALL IN LOVE WITH HER! I know, that even though there can’t really be favorites on the farm, you can see with everyone’s interactions with her, she has your hearts too.
It is very obvious, that she has passed on her wonderful personality, intelligence, and love of people to her wonderful sons. It is one of the cutest things, seeing Coz play with his ball; by the looks of things, when he lets it drop, he looks for someone to pick it up. Zenny’s sons have so much of her in them, and it’s very obvious that she has them in training while they are with her; wouldn’t it be wonderful if her ability as a race horse is also in them. Here comes a “Triple Crown Winner”, oozing with personality. Thank-you for keeping her in our lives, and taking such good care of her, and her boys!!

Team Z,
Thx for treasure update. Love ya for them. OMGosh Coz is hilarious with that ball.

Sarbonne finished 4th in the $2500 claiming race race at Emerald downs 7th race. Wow, sure glad Zenyatta is doing better than her workmates. Just wish I could give them forever homes. Please friend Sarbonne on her facebook.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Yes, Sarbonne definitely needs help.
suew/Va
Remember the wonderful El Vino, too. He is taking a long rest from racing according to his FB page. Both he and Sarbonne were instrumental in keeping our Zenny fit and ready for the track. I hope each of these great horses finds a forever home, post racing, full of love, carrots and mints.

I certainly hope so too!!

Hi all, I saw a video from Belmont showing the tracks condition; very wet and some washed out areas that maintenance will be working on. Jockey Valazquez stated he has raced on this track for 23 years and that the Belmont track has never been dangerous when sloppy wet. That is good news. I wish a safe journey for both the horses and the riders.
Which horses will like the conditions and which ones won’t? We will all soon find out in a few hours. At Bloodhorse: also stated that if the sun would peek out and they would have some wind and the rain would stop the conditions could dry up quite a bit for the big race.
Go Orb go!!
hugz, Sally B

Thanks for the updates and new photos. Zenny looks terrific…motherhood certainly agrees with her. Love the videos! Hugs to all and a special thank you to Alys!

His Mom swings her carrots just like that :)

What sweet photos and video. Thank you Lane’s End and TeamZ! Safe trip today for all the horses and jockeys in the Belmont.
Linda Shull
Love it. He is really growing fast. More pictures please.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Yes, the Belmont track crew certainly have their work cut out for them. I wish track conditions weren’t such a factor in how a given horse runs. It all does boil down to racing luck, after all. At least we can be thankful that the field is not as large as the Derby. Praying for safe trips for all, not only at Belmont, but all over the country.
Every time we have a big upcoming race, it reminds us of how thankful we are that Zenny retired safe and sound.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Barbara, I think of Zenyatta too with every race she ran. I remember praying before her race because I did not want anything to happen to our Dancing Queen.
hugs, Sally B

Holy Moly – I’ve been out of touch so long that it’s hard to find a place to start. My sister and brother-in-law were here for several days to visit and help out. They had been gone from their home in Florida for almost a month visiting various family members along the way and got here (their last stop) later than expected so it was a very busy time. LOTS got accomplished that I couldn’t have managed myself, and it was great to eat some “real food” (as opposed to what I usually manage). A couple of good weather days resulted in the yard getting spiffed up, the gutter reattached to the garage, etc., and the bad weather days found us washing, curtains, cleaning closets and the basement (YEA!).
I’m sure that not matter how well-meaning I might be, I will probably forget something, but here goes:
Thanks to Alys, Team Z, and the Lane’s End peeps for continuing to keep us in the loop and providing the great pictures. I’ve never seen a horse play with a ball before, and Coz sure is cute doing it. Little Red is growing so quickly, and Mom looks great. What a treat to find this post today.
Happy belated Birthday to Stacy Ferris (and “epic” doesn’t even begin to describe another great poem from Trina!!!).
Loved reading the posts from Sue Noel – you paint such great pictures Sue – I can almost seeing you lovin’ on Barnaby.
Glad Barbara and Alan returned safely from their interesting trip – hope we will hear the details.
So sorry to hear about the problems with Sir and the rescue in general Sally – I hope a peaceful, humane solution will be found.
My condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Jean Stapleton and Esther Williams – great women to be sure.
Poor Hovis – what a week having to sleep outside with no duvet, eat “secondary” grass, deal with a sunburned nose and some kind of mask, and then the dentist! Hope this will be a better one coming up – thanks Max as always for the link (I know we could do this ourselves, but I would forget for sure, and I so appreciate being able to just “click on the link”)
Speaking of links, it’s time to fire up some new candles for our friend Marty R and her husband Pat: http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=Marty
So said to hear of another terrible shooting yesterday – this time in Santa Monica. Thoughts and prayers for all of the victims and their families.
On the horse front, I didn’t see any mention of the great run yesterday by a John-trained horse, Market Quote, at BHP. She lost by a neck, and she sure is a beauty. I had recorded some of the Belmont stuff yesterday so this morning I got to see the great run by Calidoscopio (age is a state of mind, right?). I join those who hope that El Vino will get a nice “vacation” and have a good come back or find a second career of some sort. There is a cute picture on his FB page today. And good luck and safe trip to all of those running today at Belmont. Sure hope the track dries up a bit before the “big one.”
Thanks to the Kennedy’s for the great post about the horse “digs” in Kentucky. I will be there for a brief visit (sounds like I will just miss Judy G so I won’t be able to participate in bailing her out of jail for trespassing at Lane’s End :-). I’ve never seen ANY horse farms, and although just a couple will be on the agenda, it will be a super new adventure thanks to the planning by our Debbie G – really looking forward to seeing her again and meeting her famous cat Leroy :-)
Hope everybody has a great Belmont Day!
vicki
So happy to see Coz having fun. I miss seeing him. Hope Zenyatta is passing along her will to win along with her winsome personality! Hope her little guys all have happy and productive lives. As for me I let myself dream a little that some day she’ll be known as the Mom of a triple crown winner. Or two.
nevadalil
Look at the rear end on that little red guy-he looks like a quarter horse! And of course his very thorough genes will show up when he grows a little more. Enjoy all the pics of the queen and her princes and wish the best for all of them.
Debbie G/Kentucky
@ JAG – LOL, your post is hilarious! I can just picture in my mind you and I running around Lanes End with a giant bag of carrots and security chasing us around. Too funny! It’s a good thing we know so many Dumplings who can bail us out!
@ Sandy – Whew, it sounds like you’ve had a busy week! It’s a good feeling to get stuff around the house like that done. You better rest up next week for your trip to Lexington. Leroy and I will keep you busy!

Alys and Coz,
Thanks for the great entertainment, the video is so funny! Have fun w/ your Jolly Ball,Coz. Lucky boy.
!3Z, you are built like a Mack Truck and growing so much. Good job, Zenny.
Happy Belmont Day to all. Wow, that mud was something else yesterday. My hats off to all working, racing, riding on those sloppy tracks.
Yeah,Margano and 10 yr old,Calidoscopio. They sure were hydroplaning across the mud, we were doing it on our roads as TS Andrea packed a punch here.
Thanks,Alys,you’re the best!!!

todays prayers:
God Rejoices In You
The Lord your God is with you…
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.

God rejoices in your life.
He believes in you… watches over you…
and tenderly keeps you in His constant care.
You are valued and loved,
not only by those who know you,
but by the One who created you!
may god bless you all & keep all horses & jocks safe today.

Power Broker wins the Easy Goer at Belmont,
Congratulations with Rosie N on board, you did your sire
Pulpit proud today. Had hopes he would have had a dance
with Zenyatta, but her handsome 13 Z has him for a grandsire.

Praying for safe racing in the Belmont Stakes — everybody stay healthy!
All the Best!

dear judy and Z fans heard in the racing post that Khalid Abdulla is reducing the size of his racing empire this year frankel is not on the “for sale” list!!will take a few months but will be more than the usual end of season sale also nelly’s owners were meeting up this week to chose her first stallion is sure to be an established one expect it will be announced soon Kathy R should be telling you this news not me!!!goodnight sweet dreams God bless love and hugs sheena
Max
Sheena. Abdullah has some fantastic horses in his empire. Here’s hoping that he keeps Frankel and Kind. Nothing is yet certain according to reports.
More uncertain is what is happening with Mad Moose. He’s still teasing us about Royal Ascot. Will he run?
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
I read that too. There will be some wonderful horses for sale.
Do you think Nelly will be going to Frankel?
Miss Kathy R too. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC broad)
Big Congratulations to Mike Smith and Palace Malice!! You guys rock!
Sorry that Orb couldn’t pull it off, or Oxbow (or Golden Soul), but the win went to a horse who had run in a Triple Crown race — not a newcomer. So glad everyone seems in good shape at the finish. Enjoy your win, Mike and Palace Malice (and connections)!!
CHEERS!!
Max
Congrats to Mike on his win. He’s always a class act. Can never look at him without thinking of Z. Coz, you could be next?
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Way to go, Palace Malice and Mikey! They all appear to have come through it, which is the most important of all.

Congrsts to Big D’s Point of Entry…great win…runs down Optimizer and pulls away …I kind of like Optimizer…only horse last year to run all 3 triple crown races….now second to Wise Dan last out and now second to POE…I think he is going to get better with age
Marshall (NC broad)
Yes, congratulations to Point of Entry!! Well done!
Max
Agree. Loved to see POE win as a son of Big D, but O is a great horse too. More to come from him for sure.

This sucks.

Well….. my O came in second and the girls were 6th….seemed to me that NONE of them wanted the distance …what do ya’ll think?
Max
Ox was super. He is a tough guy like Paynter. Hoping to see him later in the summer at Saratoga and in the BCC. Sire, Awesome Again, and uncle Tiznow both won the Classic. Tiz did it twice. Most of the blog talk on Ox elsewhere discusses what color Ox is. He’s kind of fascinating, a real character horse.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Have to say Oxbow and Orb were tremendous in that they ran in all three races and did extremely well. Takes a lot of stamina to compete in all three. Hugs, JB
Ann NC
So true, Judy B. Orb and Ox gave it their all and kudos to their connections for the wonderful sportsmanship!
Max, Ox will eventually wind up in KY, eat the beautiful bluegrass and turn into a beautiful Blue/Roan!
Max
JudyB. Yes, I think that Orb, Oxbow and Will Take Charge were the only horses who raced in all 3. It’s a very tough test in a short space of time. The English TC is spread over a longer period. Challenge there is to keep the horse at a high level over that long period, which is not easy and has not been done since 1970. Interestingly, the last English TC winner was Canadian bred and US owned. No British or European horse has been able to equal Nijinsky.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Carol:
No doubt the distance of the Belmont is a mighty task for many horses. Congrats to all of them for giving their all. Hugs, JB
