Happy Friday!
We wish all Zenyatta fans a happy Valentine’s Day, and we’re sending extra love to those of you who put a valentine in the mail for Z. She enjoyed each and every one—particularly the peppermints!
What’s better than to celebrate with some new photos of 13Z in the snow and an up close and personal view of Zenyatta eating her peppermints? Thanks Alys!
Enjoy!

Congratulations to Phipps Stable for their victor in the Canadian Turf Stakes with Reload. I have been following this son of Hard Spun – Hidden Reserve, by Mr. Prospector for a while now and he is going to be the one of the next top grass horses. He defeated Joha, Rydilluc, Bad Debt, Guys Reward, etc. in the race… I like, I like!
He comes from an amazing family – Hidden Reserve, a daughter of Mr. Prospector – Pure Profit, by Key to The Mint is a half sister to Inside Information and a full sister to Educated Risk ($1 million +) – Inside Information of course the dam of Smuggler, Illicit (dam of Gone Astray), etc.
And of course I am a huge Hard Spun fan and follow any and all Phipps Stables horses I can find.
Congratulations Reload :-) I am trying to look for the replay – I saw on my Virtual Stables the result —- anyone have the replay? Thanks :0(

Dear Tiz Herself,
Thanks for the post/video — Yay, Reload!
Always loved Hard Spun!
Cheers
Tiz Herself
It is too bad we didn’t get to see Hard Spun on the turf as being a Danzig, he should have excelled on the grass, too!
I follow as many Phipps horses as I can.
Survival (a 2011 colt by Giant’s Causeway out of Matlacha Pass – making him 1/2 to Point of Entry) who should break his maiden any time now
Bokeelia Island, another 1/2 to Point of Entry, sired by Medaglia d’Oro
Mischieviously (2011 colt by Indian Charlie out of Illicit – 1/2 to Gone Astray and Contentious) who am also waiting for him to break his maiden.
Secret Bid (Street Cry – Inside Information) who is a four year old.
2011 filly Guilty Verdict (Medaglia d’Oro – Smuggler, by Unbridled. Smuggler of course is daughter of Inside Information)
Scam, also a son of Smuggler, a 2010 colt by Giant’s Causeway, and add in one more Smuggler colt, her 2012 by War Front named Security Risk
Secretive – 2010 colt (Indian Charlie – Collusion, by Broad Brush), Collusion is also a daughter of Inside Information – also have Collusion’s 2012 filly by Tapit on my Virtual Stables watch.
Captured – 2011 colt sired by Curlin – Alluring, by A.P. Indy. Alluring is daughter of millionaire Educated Risk
Complicated – 2012 filly (Blame – Consequence, by El Prado) Consequence is a daughter of Educated Risk
Blast Away – 2011 colt by First Samurai – Hidden Reserve (1/2 to Reload) and Hidden Reserves’ 2012 colt by Medgalia d’Oro named Depositor…
also worth watching Lulu Le Mon (2011 colt Lemon Drop Kid – Emanating, by Cox’s Ridge – 1/2 brother to Boisterous)
Love bloodlines…. is fun going through and finding more :-)

Thanks for the post Tiz. I was not really aware of this horse. I do like the Phipps family so will keep an eye out for him.

Reload is also half to the sire Philanthropist – who stood in Ontario Canada until 2012 and is now in South Africa. Philanthropist (by Kris S- grandsire of Zenyatta) his tops include Pender Harbour (3rd Queen’s Plate, won Prince of Wales Stakes and Breeders Stakes in Canada), etc. and $1.3+ million in earnings.

Coolmore’s connections had a nice winner in three year old Sloane Square (gray filly by Giant’s Causeway out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Marylebone) she won race 6 on Feb 21 at Calder by 9 and 3/4 lengths…

Think Top Billing did a good job considering his being so far behind and coming on like gang busters. I was surprised that the jocks let Wildcat Red and General A Rod get away on the lead like that. General A Rod’s broodmare sire is Big D.
Tiz Herself
Top Billing reminds me a lot of his daddy Curlin… hope he’s in the gates for the Derby! Him and Conquest Titan – those two will be coming into their own and cannot wait to see what they will do!
Terry Crow
I think Top Billing ran an outstanding race. The other jockeys let their horses roll because there was an obvious speed bias that day

Hi Zenny & Shirlee & Judy…..
“Rivers” looked fabulous today…..as the post parade went by I told my hubby I was worried about #4….looked really good….
Rivers friend Guns scratched from race…
He went off as second favorite behind the entry 2 & 2x….wasn’t worried too much about them
Rivers got a better start than last time….only 8-10 back instead of 20+ like last time
Went wide on turning for home….passing most of the field ….
then he ran…only to come in second by less than a length…
he needs more ground…both his last race (finished a closing third) and this one he was going past…just ran out of race track….
If he ever gets out of the gate clean….look out world….
…..
Take care of yourself Zenny…..I am PACING!
shirleeinindy
Carol, I saw the replay and River really did well. A little more ground and I think he could have caught the winner. Hope next time he is not so far back. Glad you got to see him in person. Keep us informed on how he is doing.

there was a moose attack just the other day in Smithers, British Columbia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khJ4J4Vcuf8 this was shared on FB and through our news station in Alberta… thankfully the mail carrier is okay but that is scary stuff.
Loved your video… here is another one that is a feel good although I would be way too chicken to be anywhere but inside my house with these two on the porch…

In the city where I live, I walk my Border Collie x in the parks all the time and see moose constantly and they are very protective of their offspring… I would never want to be this close to them in the wild…
it is different when the moose is raised by people.. That’s amazing – thanks for sharing :-)
Max
VickiB. Moosie would look good in a pair of antlers like this moose. He’s trying to impress Annie Power. His current race stats are not going to do it. Free the Moose. Let him loose.

Thanks, Vicki B.
Did, Teddy R. Ride a moose?
Tiz, have 2 Border x mixed and the one would surely use her herding skills, even on a Moose, nothing scares her! Yikes!
Free the Moose!
Tiz Herself
In this case the moose had two calves with her – the spring calf from this year and one from last year …. when she was starting to get agitated and her ears go back it is automatic to get out of there… the minute their ears go back (same with horses I guess :-) ) they are definitely not happy.

Love that moose video!! We went to that Wildlife Conservation center when we were in Alaska a few years ago, but it was a rainy day and the moose was lying down and obscured by the drizzle and fog!! How cool to finally see him!! Thanks!

Dear Vicki B.,
Thanks for this link — really enjoyed reading the Native Diver article! Such a remarkable horse and such a loss.
I am relieved that they found his remains under the monument so they can relocate him to Del Mar. Too bad that this was necessary and too bad that Hollywood Park is no more.
Hugs
Terry Crow
Vicki-Thanks so much for posting this, There was a lot of speculation that he wasn’t really under the monument because of various reasons, which all made sense. Now that it has been determined he’s really there, I hope more care is taken with this site than Hollywood park management did with the momentos that were hanging in the track buildings. I have expressed my admiration for the ‘Diver on my occasions on the blog. I thought he was my once in a lifetime horse before Z came along. The HP vultures and Del Mar management better do this right. A lot of people who care are watching.
Max
TC. Enjoy your posts about Native Diver. Inspired by you, I did some reading about him. I learned that he was his own horse, and did things his way. I like those kind of horses.

Max-Some of his old races can be seen on You Tube. He was a little like Z in that he liked to pose for the fans in the post parade. Funny, he was the complete opposite of Z as far as running style is concerned.

Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
I was reading an interesting article in a past Bloodhorse article. I never realized that the Thoroughbred is a breed where twins can be conceived more so than most other breeds. I NEVER KNEW THIS! That is why there are various checks at and during pregnancy. The article stated a mare having twins does happen, but in many cases it can become critical or fatal to the mare and the twins. Sadly, the article spoke of various ways the equine vet can abort one of them to prevent the serious complications. Does any one have more to offer about this?
hugs, Sally B

About all I can say is horsemen consider twins to be bad luck and do everything they can to avoid such a birth.

Thank you so much for the info on Native Diver. I had been just a few nights ago thinking that I needed to ask if any of you had heard any plans lately for the horses buried at Hollywood Park.
The article brought tears to my eyes. So glad they found his remains.
Thank you so much Vicki.

It was my understanding that Charlotte Farmer, the lady who did so much to save the remains of Noor, was involved in the project. Now that the remains have been identified, I suspect that Charlotte is satisfied.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Peggy, Marshall, Terry, Judy & Max — you are all so welcome. I found the article moving, too. I was thinking that when Native Diver was buried, people must have imagined it was safe, that he would be there “forever”, as no one expected the great Hollywood Park to ever close. How naive we were!

A winner carries with him the quiet knowledge that he has heard every argument, faced every opposition, felt every criticism, but there is no turning back and no accepting defeat. Rejection is one of the oldest forms of torture. If a dozen people approve of us and one does not, out thought is riveted on the one and what his reason is for not liking us. But time and circumstances change so swiftly. Nothing stays the same. What was real and possible is suddenly out of reach or we find amazing success where we have failed a dozen times. If we give up, we forfeit everything. Look beyond rejection, see beyond limits, think around the bend in the road. It may be that we have been trying to settle for less than the best-and we have been doing it for a long time.

Very sorry to hear about The Usual Q.T. I remember several years ago being at the Derby Restaurant near-by Santa Anita- and Q. T.’s connections (sitting next to our table and very friendly) were having a great time, having won that day. They were in a VERY celebratory frame of mind! We always looked forward to seeing him run. :-(
We will be seeing The Million Dollar Quartet! Since we are staying at The Quad, right next door to Harrah’s, no travel will be required. :-) Also, our tickets include a buffet, so I will give a review of food and show upon our return. :-)
We saw Cowtownmary yesterday, hoping to give HIM carrots to celebrate his second place finish last week. However, he was hot walking at the time, so we waved our thanks and gave the carrots to his stable mates, including Caracortado, who is a sweetie and very smoochable. :-) Mike said Cowtown came out of his race in fine shape. No next race date yet. P.S. Caracortado loves Skittles, but I forgot to bring some–but he happily chomped on a carrot.

Dear Max Yes, hopefully Sprinter can come back after a long rest,I would hate to think his best days are over. They are hoping for better ground for Marty but we’ve been promised more of the wet stuff this week.I heard the bus driver took a test to prove he wasn’t drunk or drugged when he “saw” the croc.Hugs Sheena

Sheena. There have been some grainy videos published in the English media of a croc like creature swimming in the Avon. Who knows? Now there are sightings of Chris all over Bristol visiting coffee shops and bars, where he orders only stout, namely Z’s favorite Guinness. Maybe this is good for business in Bristol.
Well, I sure hope too that SS will rise again. Perhaps he can spend time with Moosie as they are now both on the layoff list until the fall. 9 months banishment for Moosie is too harsh, although the Moose seems to be in very good spirits. Free the Moose.
