Happy Friday!
We wish all Zenyatta fans a happy Valentine’s Day, and we’re sending extra love to those of you who put a valentine in the mail for Z. She enjoyed each and every one—particularly the peppermints!
What’s better than to celebrate with some new photos of 13Z in the snow and an up close and personal view of Zenyatta eating her peppermints? Thanks Alys!
Enjoy!

Dear Zenny and all my Z friends.
I am so far behind on catching up on the blog, but I wanted to stop and say
@Abigail. So sorry for the loss of your mother. Hugs to you.
@Sandy, I didn’t know you had been ill, but glad you are feeling better.
I know we are wishing for spring.
Take care and love to all.

I to have not been able to read alot here either.
Abilgail; Please know I express my sincere sympathy for the loss of your mother.
This is so sad and a burden on your heart right now. I went through this 7 years ago.
I still often talk to my mom today and I look above sometimes and say “what would you think of this mom”. Your mom will always be a part of your life.
God bless you, hugs, Sally Blank
Sorry Darlene, but your message was the first post that came up and I thought I would respond along with your message.
hugs

Darlene & Sally B: Thank you both so much. It is just wonderful to come here and read your warm thoughts and know that you understand. There’s really nothing quite like being a “Z Dumpling” is there? Always wonderful to join in the conversation. And I start each day watching Zenny eating her mints! HUGS

@Darlene-Good to hear from a charter member of the RN club. Here’s one I heard as a Russian joke, but you can substitute any country and any names as politics are pretty much the same all over. Why did Lenin wear shoes while Putin wears boots? The crap was only ankle high in Lenin’s day.
Darlene Daniels
HaHA. Good one Terry.
This is a true redneck story from my neck of the woods. One of my customers came into the bar one day and said he couldn’t stay long. He had to go help his neighbor with an electrical problem. The next day he came back in and said “you wouldn’t believe what that guy had done. He had his “chandelier” which was a wagon wheel with lights strung up by the cord holding it to the ceiling. Then he said it kept flickering and sparking. (The cord wore out from the weight of the “chandelier”. So, to get it fixed quickly for that nights poker game, they rewired it and strung it up to the ceiling with weed eater wire. True red neck story. Does this still qualify me for the Indiana chapter president?
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Darlene–welcome back! You have been missed.
@TC,GP–too funny. I couldn’t figure how that one could possibly end. I saw a horse joke the other day on MTB’s FB page, and I meant to send it to you, but I forgot it! LOL!
Terry Crow
That alone solidifies your place in the RN club.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Darlene, ha ha…I think it definitely does!

Dear TC GP and Darlene:
Both qualify. Too funny. Love and Hugs, JB

Darlene-You have never lost your standing. Unless you voluntarily relinquish your position, you will always be president of the Indiana chapter. At least he was getting it “fixed” for a good reason.
Rosemary McCauley
Darlene: Great RN story – you know duct tape is always a fix-it-all. I say that with experience as a RN.
Terry Crow
Rosemary-Always good to hear from a RN chapter president. What do you think of Game On Dude’s chances this Saturday?

This is so ironic I was just thinking about the Barbaro Family.
Such Beautiful little foals.
Thank you so much.

i think it is cool that the first foal sired by Lentenor was born at Calumet Farm — how is that for history in the making?

I do also, Tiz. Hard to get any info out of them but I am anxiously awaiting his first race. He looks like Barbaro so much and he could not be in better hands than the Jacksons. Is Michael Matz training him?

I was just asking Judy too, but have you seen a picture of the little one by Shackleford that belongs to Dale Romans? I think I heard this little one belongs to Dale and was born on his farm. I believe I heard it right. Would love to see a picture of him.

Peggy-here is the article on Shack’s baby-BGG
First Foals Reported for Shackleford
By Blood-Horse Staff January 9, 2014 12:09 PM
Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Shackleford sired his first reported foal, a filly born Jan. 4 at Alastar Thoroughbreds near Nicholasville, Ky.
The chestnut filly—sporting a strong white blaze like her sire—is out of the stakes-placed Saint Ballado mare Angel Flying.
Later in article
On Jan. 6, Shackleford sired his second reported foal when a bay colt out of the Maria’s Mon mare Mecanique was born at Dale Romans’ Romans Farm near Lexington.

March 4 Cherokee Devotional
Few things that count in life are taken by great strides. Little by little, step by step. we inch forward. Great progress in a short time is so often short-lived and gives us the wrong idea of how things work. We build a consciousness, use good judgment, di gu go ta nv in Cherokee, to move slowly and with awareness. But as we build, it is important to override the negatives that try to lodge in what we are doing. Our thinking is like a garden that needs to be cultivated. And our talking is even more important. The two go i tsu la, hand in hand, and what happens is a direct result of what we have dwelled on for many seasons. But it is in our power to make corrections and edge out trouble-little by little, but very surely.
Certain small ways and observances sometimes have connection with large and more profound ideas.

Hi Sheena! Regarding the Pancake Day we have a pancake race with Olney, England, and Liberal, Kansas. The same Olney girl has now won three years in a row. They have to run a certain distance(don’t remember how far) down the street with a pancake in a frying pan and have to flip it three times during the race. Lots of fun!
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
We learn so much on this site! Happy Pancake Day! That must be why they’re serving free short stacks at IHOP. At any rate, Ray and Zoe both looked adorable! You’re right, Zoe is a very good little twirler. Boo is quite the fundraiser. Love him in those little shoes. How do they stay on his little feet??? Prayers for little Daniel and his parents. So heart-wrenching. Marty isn’t the only one who made it into the selfie…Ava Gardner did, too! Marty is back to eating healthier again now that the festivities are over. Thank you for continued prayers for Audrey. Love and hugs from me, kisses from the Pack. Kathy

Sheena,
P.S. Enjoy Crufts!

@Abigail–You can find treasures you never knew existed when you go through the stuff that your parents intended you to see when you could appreciate them. Every once in a while I go through the old stuff and find things I overlooked before. Of course, I am much closer to seeing my dear departed friends and family again than most of those who post here. I hope I am keeping their memories the way that they wanted me to.

Dear Terry,
The best way to honor our departed friends and family is to be the best humans we can possibly be…testimonies to everything they put into who we are today.

Kathy-I am a fan of your devotionals. I am sure an American Indian said something like that at one time. I am trying my best, although some have told me that I laugh at inappropriate times. Of course, they say that while laughing themselves.

@Abigail, I want to add my heartfelt sympathy to you for the loss of your mother. I came by the following writing and think it is worth sharing:
Grief never ends….But it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. The sense of loss must give way if we are to value the life that was lived. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith….It is the price of love.

Dear Maryp,

Love that. Lost my mom little over a year ago. Mom and dad both gone now. Kind of a lost feeling.

Terry – Thanks for the question re Game on Dude’s chances this weekend. I think he has a very good chance at adding another Big Cap victory on Saturday. He is a tough, battling little dude and I think he’s up for it. The last I heard about whether or not he will be entered was that he was “probable.” Fingers crossed that he makes a big statement.
Please weigh in with your opinion.
Terry Crow
Rosemary-As you know, I am not as big a fan of Game On Dude as you are but I actually like his chances in this race, if he is healthy. He doesn’t have as much speed to bother him as the Rainbows horse is out. Somebody else has got to compromise their chances by running with the Dude and it may not happen. I think he will be asked the question turning for home by Stevens and MMM. We shall see what the answer is.
Rosemary McCauley
Terry – thanks for your comments re the Dude – It remains to be seen if he can answer all the questions may be posed to him on Saturday and I believe in him. I agree he will have to watch out for the dreaded Gary Stevens.
Here’s a redneck definition for “cashew”: v. and n. to exchange chips for hard currency. “I wanted to keep gambling, but the manager said, ‘I think we’d better CASHEW in’.”

Dear Rosemary and TC GP:
Rosemary, too funny. Thanks. Although I admire and respect The Dude, my heart belongs to MMM on Saturday. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Max.Thoroughly enjoyed your link about Willie Mullins,a great trainer but more than that,a gentleman.I read that Ruby said he’s had a year to get used to the fact he wouldn’t be riding Buck’s and that he’s certain Annie can get the trip.Only a week away!!Yay!neigh!Free the Moose. Sheena

Sheena. Mullins is superb. Saw a photo of him with The Fly. The Fly looked fantastic – well rested and aggressive. He had his teeth on Mullins’ gloves poised to strike at his wrists or forearm. Beautiful. BTW the Irish and Scots must have the same bloodlines. My uncles and maternal grandfather look like Mullins.
Don’t forget that Moosie asked Annie Power to visit him on her way to Cheltenham. So far, no reported response. She’s all business. Hoping that she does well at 3 miles. She certainly has the size to make that distance. She is a very big and beautiful filly. Go Annie!

Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Hi all Zsters! I spent time out this past Sun and today this Tues. working and feeding my special four horses. Sun. was the coldest, and I dressed in such layers as to represent the Pillsbury Doughboy kept me mostly warm once again. Heat packs in my gloves are a must. After two hours my final responsibility is to bring water from the log house by hose which is about two hundred feet, not the hundred I thought, so to fill our water trough as the water is frozen at the barn. I have to bring the hose through the fence and drag it over Sirs area to the trough. It means up and down and over several times. These past two times, after I had filled and wished to quickly drag the hose back to the house, big Sir has stood on the hose. I have spoken to him and he knows I am there, but he has not budged; I have tried to tug at the hose but not with his weight would it move. So, back down into the barn to get closer to Sir and get him to finally step away has been the case. I could swear he thinks this is a game! Hah I can not wait for spring when the pipes will unfreeze at the barn.
Early, after I feed all with their grain and began filling haynets, I looked out the barn as Sir wondered out to his big pasture. He looked so beautiful erectly standing, looking beyond and then, Sir began to run and kick out from his hindquarters so much like Zenyatta did when she was released at Lanes End, and run around, it was so awesome and all I did think of is Zenyatta doing this.
I think Sir attempts to do something about his boredom, because after all he was once a show horse, and now also has arthritis.
Then, I am bringing out apples in a muk bucket in a wheelbarrow to our poop area and I see Frito crossing over at the other end of the poop area into the goat area which we have restricted by a way of straps. It is more dangerous in this area stepping there so it is strapped off. I scolded Frito motioning him to go back and he willingly did after chasing down Brownie, one of the goats. Now I needed to be a repair person using some heavy twine to bring back the straps and temporarily shut this off, which I ironically had some in my car. I sent out an email for the eve people with a heads up to make things more durable. I wish I was not so old, all this would not tire me, but either way it was an adventure!! I have always loved an adventure!! When I left all were content and I felt content too. I wish I would have found this earlier in my life, but it is what I choose to do even older now and sometimes aching after.
Let us all think spring, flowers and green grass! Bless those that already have it, I am envious. hugs, Sally B
