Happy Friday!
We wish all Zenyatta fans a happy Valentine’s Day, and we’re sending extra love to those of you who put a valentine in the mail for Z. She enjoyed each and every one—particularly the peppermints!
What’s better than to celebrate with some new photos of 13Z in the snow and an up close and personal view of Zenyatta eating her peppermints? Thanks Alys!
Enjoy!

Dear Max. I think the Moose is actually enjoying his long break!Have just been on Sire de Grugy,s twitter, he’s sending his best wishes to SS and has had scarves made in his colours,is now a strong favourite for the champion. I hear Dave is holding a cabinet meeting in Aberdeen tomorrow.I don’t know how you feel about independence but I would hate to see the break-up of the UK.Hugs Sheena

Sheena. My ancesters fought for freedom against the English with William Wallace and later with Robert The Bruce. Our clan paid dearly with blood for freedom. We were then and will be forever more for a free Scotland.
shirleeinindy
Max, my ancestors came from a village in the foothills of the highlands called Dingwall. Visited there with my daughter. Her comment was “Mom, all these people look like you!” A look at the rocky steep landscape and I can see why they left.
Max
shirlee. Your daughter is right. My sister in law, who is not a Scot, went for a visit to a portrait gallery in Edinburgh and she said the same thing. We all look alike. Most of my family has red hair. The rest have black hair with some blondes thrown in there too. All blue eyes. My mother’s family background is Scottish and French, the Old Alliance. No English.

Max-The exchange between you and shirlee is one of the best ever on the blog.

Ann-if you blink you might miss it. The cab driver, irritated by what was happening, goes up to the betting window and puts his half of the money Trotter gave him on June Bug, the same name of his cat, who runs last. The seller is one of the main characters in the film, played by the same guy who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter films.

Thanks, TC for putting that face and character together. Another fine one, I knew I had seen recently but could not remember. Love Hagrid, wish he lived behind my house!

Worthy performances do not make us who we are, but little things and what we tell ourselves in the privacy of our own minds. We are what we see and what we believe is important. We are children to the end-innocent in ways we do not understand, aware of our spiritual connections and afraid to develop them. What would people think? How will I explain that I no longer enter into those activities that are thought so clever? There’s a world of things we do not have to explain. As much as we want others to understand and like us, if it takes us off our standing place into a world of unlikely places. then we flirt with disaster. No one can dictate to us if we are not listening. We will not lose our footing if we are not teetering. We are who we are by what we choose to cultivate, and all worthy performances are made up of very little parts.
God made me an Indian.

Yes I was up early as always. The Pack likes an early breakfast. I was delighted that little Angel is home. Praying she continues to improve. I did see Zoe’s video. She is a darling. Ray is a gorgeous boy and his mom and dad love him so, as it should be with all our animals. That is strange that the 10 million hasn’t been acknowledged. Maybe they thought making a big to-do would appear like bragging? Who knows? Boo is definitely styling in his adorable outfit. Looks like Ava got a lot of love on her birthday. Kathy-When the original diary written by Dottie on behalf of Zenyatta ended we regulars explored all aspects of the new web site. We all decided, that is the ones who segued from the diary, that the blog was most like what we were used to. Your idea has merit as the forum is a good place to exchange ideas but I will never desert the blog. It was an emotional time when we thought that the end of the diary was the end of the friendships we had built up. Will always be grateful to LE and the Mosses for continuing this web site. I have read some of the material posted elsewhere and there is some pretty awful stuff.

A No-Bid Mare & Newborn Foal Find A Home At Brandywine Farm
by Teresa Genaro Brooklyn Backstretch February 23, 2014
We know that we’re supposed to remember, always, that horse racing is a business. That even though we’re animal lovers, horses aren’t pets. That, as much as we cringe to read it, or to write it, they are property.
That truth is hammered home nowhere more clearly than the sales ring, when a literal price is put on a horse’s head, and the one that puts up the most money gets to take her home. It’s a transaction.
http://www.brooklynbackstretch.com/2014/02/23/a-no-bid-mare-newborn-foal-find-a-home-at-brandywine-farm/
Terry Crow
BGG-You are right in the context that those in the horse business, be it breeding or racing, are, in fact, conducting a business with cold blooded logic. However, there are a myriad of small people in the game for the love of the animals. When these type of people no longer exist in the sport, that will be a sad day, indeed.
Bluegrass Girl

That is why a story like this is so important. It is people who not only have heart but take action who saved the mare and the foal.

Mucho Macho Man, Will Take Charge Big ‘Cap Showdown Echoes 1988 Rivalry
Paulick Report Press Release February 23, 2014
With Mucho Macho Man and Will Take Charge scheduled to clash in the Grade I, $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap on March 8, Jon White points out the similarity to the 1988 renewal of the 1 1/4-mile event.
“The year before the ’88 Big ‘Cap, Ferdinand, at four an older horse, nosed out 3-year-old Alysheba in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Hollywood Park,” White said. “And then they had a rematch in the Big ’Cap. Similarly, in the Breeders’ Cup Classic last year here at Santa Anita, Mucho Macho Man, an older horse (five), won by a nose over Will Take Charge, a 3-year-old. And now they are scheduled to have a rematch in this year’s Big ’Cap.”

Sheena. I am worried for the health of The Tullow Tank and Last Instalment if these allegations are true. JudyB. Maybe her eyesight is not so bad. Falling into a swimming pool is a common practice among moose who wander into towns. I read about this almost every summer and fall. Rainbow? Yes. Pot of Gold? Not So Fast, by Jonathan Stettin
Posted by danonymousracing on Feb 24, 2014 in FEATURED, NEWS
If there is one thing the large majority of people tied to the racing industry can agree on, it is that we don’t need any black eyes. We have had our fair share and most people already perceive the industry as being in a steady decline. It is hard to intelligently argue against that view. That said, there are efforts being made to revive our game to the grand status it once held as the Sport of Kings. Esquire network is introducing viewers to the world of professional horse playing; a life style that is as challenging as any you’ll find and can be just as rewarding. Some racetracks are improving their facilities and showing a renewed interest in customer service. Contests and tournaments are being promoted and celebrated and all this is good but not the answer to our problems and not the end all be all. That is going to take a lot more and what we can’t afford is unnecessary hits

I was wondering if anyone would post something about this. Personally, I think the stewards have too much power. I daresay that a lot of people are having second thoughts about the stewards after this. Perhaps it should be contested in the courts. This is the best example of a test case I have ever seen.

Shirleeinindy,
Yes HC’s dad, Indy ran with his head down, reaching for the finish line. His head may be lower than most but you certainly don’t want them running with their heads way up in the air. We’ll have to see if it helps him as much as it did Indy, I am so rooting for him. hugs

Snow Chief was a big disappointment in the Derby but redeemed himself in the Preakness. A definite overachiever. You are not so old, shirlee.

When we stop fretting we gain more ground. If we can stop trying to control everything with our minds and let it go, even for a little while, we will get a clearer view. There is wisdom in the words, “Having done all, stand.” Do what can be done, build faith, know there is a Great Holy Spirit that knows even the very smallest thing we need. At this point, everything will challenge us, but just let it slide away, let it dissolve from inattention. The greatest steps are taken when we decide not to thrash out, not to hate and resent and lose ourselves in the confusion. Put it all down and walk away to something totally different. Having done all, stand, and refuse to be drawn back into a place of no peace.
The man who sat on the ground in his tipi meditating on life and its meaning, accepting the kinship of all creatures and acknowledging unity with the universe of things, was infusing into his being the true essence of civilization.
