    Just had to share this movie trailer with you. It’s called A Dog’s Purpose. The story is told from the dog’s perspective. It’s opening in theaters this week I think and it will be wise to take a box of Kleenex with you when you go to see it.

        The movie opens on the 27th. I have read the book & also the 2nd book called “A Dog’s Journey”, both by W Bruce Cameron. Every dog lover should read both of the books even if you see the movie. (The books are always better than the movies.) “A Dog’s Purpose” is one of my very favorite books that I have read in my life.

    January 15 Cherokee Devotional

    Feeling drained and weak in the knees is not so much a physical problem as an emotional one. Too much pressure drains away strength and we feel we are going to pieces. Inertia and lightheadedness may be the result of having to face something that seems beyond any power to overcome. But these will dissolve when met with strong words of strength and faith. As soon as strength takes hold and begins to flow again, we know we have struck down something so wily and subtle that it was both real and imaginary. But nothing has power against strong words, “I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick.” And then we can ride the waves of our emotions like a canoe and not get upset among the waves.

      Wonderful devotional, as always. Love “strong words of strength and faith” … so true and comforting. “Seeking that which is lost” is so deep down inside us, we have to search our hearts and seek what God has in store for us. He is always loving and kind and wanting the best for us. The clutter of life seems to get in our way of really seeing and knowing we can do ‘all things’ through Him.

    Dear Kathy.I hope you are having a great holiday weekend.Marty has posted his”twigs and berries” photo!Always have a laugh.At last Paul Nicholls has spoken of his dread at losing Kempton but I like his idea of using Ascot instead of Sandown for the King George.He hasn’t mentioned Kauto’s ashes or statue.

    If any of you all have some spare time and don’t mind, please go to the FB of Suddenbreakingnews and like him. A nice 4 year old who had some health issue last year but is now gelded and looking forward to a good year. My reason for liking him is that his broodmare sire is Afleet Alex who I just adore. He is out of Mineshaft. Thanks if you all can.

      I remember reading an article about SBN a couple of months ago. He is a very nice horse who was thought to be a gelding at first but turned out to be a ridgling — both testicles were undescended. I guess they may have gelded him now as preventative against health problems in future. Best wishes to him in his 4 yo racing!

        I love both Mineshaft & Afleet Alex, so I wish only the best for Suddenbreakingnews.
        Belated wishes to everyone for a great 2017. I have been ill & out of work since just after Thanksgiving & haven’t felt like posting. I do try to read the blog every day because it is a bright spot of my day.
        My older dog, Amy has not been well either & we will be going to her third appt. on Tuesday since before Christmas for an anal scent gland infection.
        Zenyatta, I am really looking forward to your new foal this year. I am keeping both you & baby-to-be in my prayers for a safe birth & the best of health for both of you.
        We all would also love to hear how your boys are doing…
        Good luck to Chromie in his last race. You will be very missed. I also think that you deserve Horse of the Year for 2016.

          Will keep praying for you and your sweet Amy. I hope the vet can help her feel better. It’s so hard when you don’t feel well, but please don’t give up about your health. Are you anywhere near a medical center? It can take the right specialist sometimes to figure out how to get you well. Don’t know if you have insurance, but the large medical centers will usually see you even if you don’t. Love to you and Amy, Elizabeth

        I remember your posting about WB Smudge (Smudge’s namesake). He raced at Oaklawn yesterday, Race 8 Allowance (Optional Claiming). He finished 3rd. Race before that was November 19, 2016 at Churchill Downs, also finishing 3rd. He didn’t run for a Tag yesterday, so no chance of being claimed away. Love and Hugs, JB

    Dear Z friends,

    Shirlee’s post about Suddenbreakingnews reminded me of another horse from last year: W.B. Smudge. He won the Sen. Robert Byrd Stakes at Mountaineer in August 2016 and had won a few races prior to that. Has anyone heard any news about him?
    Just wondering.

    Rules are made to keep us safe and honest and well-organized-but many of them become more important than the purpose for which they were written. We have a tendency to make rules only to fall under the power of them. If rules and laws are made and have governed us for any length of time, it is generally thought that there can be no exceptions-even to the point of being ridiculous. When a rule becomes so binding that it will not allow common sense and honest action to help the people to do the right thing, it is time to make a change. Rules are made to help us do our best, or i da tli ni gv si, in Cherokee. Rules are made to serve human beings-not human beings made to serve the rules. We need the rules, but wisdom as well.

    Dear Kathy.A lot of us seem to have forgotten the rules these days.Another late night watching the English Patient and then watched a docu about Sir Roger Bannister.All about his sub-4 minute mile.He was made a Companion of honour in the new year.A dull mild day here what ever happened to our big freeze??.There are expected to be demonstrations at the Cheltenham festival about the Kempton closure.All quiet and very British.Racing fans are not taking this news lying down.We are down to the 20’s in the Queens of the turf Personal Ensign is no 25 or 26.
    Gorgeous photos of Brutus and his “baby brother” Jamie on his FB today.Brutus shows no signs of wanting to go out yet but is still eating and drinking.He is having subcutaneous fluid therapy now.As a vet nurse Claire is able to inject him herself but somebody called Tomasz got into a row on her post yesterday he is upset because he knows Brutus and people were telling to him …. off and calling him a foreigner.Things soon calmed down though.
    The ratties have forgotten it’s a holiday in the US today!No turtling for you .Felix posted a live video from the station today.Blue Monday as it’s known but then isn’t every Monday blue.Alaa is returning to Syria today he been with Yasser in Istanbul while Yasser is in hospital.i posted a video from Viktor last night showing “the White House”Nancy lives there she has a cart now like Mango a lovely sanctuary for the dogs that have difficulty being rehomed.A swimming pool and all.We get to see a lot more of Viktor now.Poor Prince Philip was described as a walking corpse again he is 95 after all.I sent you a link Her Majesty looks much better now.Zoe has some surprise news later.Enjoy your day off.I won’t be here so much this week but will be on FB.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXOXO

        Al Kazeem is the pride of Wales. He’s a group 1 winning turf champion who was born in Wales and who retired twice, the first time to the stud of The Queen Elizabeth II. His stud career was cut short for fertility reasons and The Queen agreed to his return to racing, something that is rarely done and rarely a success. He worked long and hard to return successfully to top tier racing competition. They ran him up and down hills to get him back into condition to race. Pretty darn amazing in every way. The mother of the little filly is Avessia.

      Thanks for the post. This little foal is a filly. She is indeed a beauty. I like the lightning bolt across her forehead and those long eyelashes. Al himself continues to show that he is a wonder horse. May he have more success in his return to his stud career.

        He is covering a select band of mares and his schedule is carefully managed.As you know he managed to get some mares in foal the first time he retired.His filly is gorgeous.No wonder we are so proud of Al.Good to see a post from you.

        • You can be rightly proud of Al. To me, he’s an inspiration. His trainer, Charlton, said that Al was totally professional as a racehorse. He worked very hard to return to the track. This is a major accomplishment. It hardly ever happens. I also read that his owner is very careful about breeding. His foals so far are good looking like Al. Al is remarkably handsome.

    January 17 Cherokee Devotional

    Most changes are too subtle to be noticed. The fog, u gv ha dv, that blankets the early morning, hangs so thick in the woods that the hills beyond cannot be seen. Then, without us seeing it, it is there no longer. So it is in our relationship with other people. We do not understand the moods and changes that work their silent influence on us when we least expect it. We react to the moods of others like we do to the fog, not realizing what has happened until the silent influence has gone. When our feelings are so in command, it is difficult to change the circumstances around us. All the experiences of a lifetime have influenced our decisions and made us react in a way that destroyed something that may never be rebuilt. When the fog lifts it takes away the veil so that we can see a long way. But the inner-fog hides life and love and friendship-until we change it.

    I am satisfied…I am not afraid to avow the deed that I have done…I am willing to bury the tomahawk and smoke the pipe of peace…
