Dear Kathy.Racegoers are stunned over in the UK to hear Kempton Park is to be sold so houses can be built there.Money talks yet again they say the King George will be run at Sandown and a new AW course is to be constructed at Newmarket. Why?there is one near by at Chelmsford. What on earth will happen to Dessie’s and Kauto’s statues and ashes?I feel daunted so many memories for me.What next? Epsom Cheltenham? Our little Island is getting over-populated and of course as per usual humans come first!!! I heard you talking about Yosemite and Sequoia. Now you will get too much rain I can sympathise.Brutus is getting more perky he is pretty thin though. They got a beautiful bouquet and card from Morrisons saying they miss him. There is no blood in his urine now.Hopefully he can live awhile longer,
Felix cannot she has so many friends over 400 more now on her way to 200,000Larry has 103,000 followers now he said it was good to see the new improved Jezza was no different from the old one.Palmerston tweeted about the new diplocats Oreo and Pickles belong to Mike Pence. Our Bojo was out in Washington at Trump Towers Bojo was born in New York.I think he met Paul Ryan is he your speaker? The major crime unit are investigating George’ Michael’s death now he had recently visited the hospital in Vienna where he fought pneumonia in 2011 and his boyfriend has been warned to stay clear of the house. He had slept outside in the car on Christmas Eve.Strange??Carrie Fisher got cremated and some of her ashes were buried with Debbie in a green and white prozac capsule.Only in Hollywood!!Dr Jill trains the dogs well doesn’t she? I am waiting for photos of Mr Fibbs preparing for next week.Someone had posted about Prince Fluffy kareem on Hovis If you give the Aberdeen polo club a like they are donating to them and somebody comes on and says it’s a fake with a name like that Stupid!!!Hope you have good day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Sorry to hear Kempton Park is to be sold. I can understand your dismay about the greats’ ashes and statues. I feel the hurt. Speaking of hurt, I was crushed over the loss of that redwood tree that held such dear childhood memories for me. And the evacuation of Yosemite. I hope not too much of that breathtaking valley will be changed. That’s what happens when you get all your rain at once. Glad that Brutus is perkier. I can see how thin he is, though. Yes, saw that beautiful bouquet. Felix is doing great on her followers. Congratulations to her! All these cats in high positions on both sides of the pond…very heartwarming! Yes, Paul Ryan is the Speaker of the House. It will be interesting to hear the major crime unit’s findings in George Michael’s death. Yes, that’s strange spending Christmas Eve in a car. Yes, the people in Hollywood do some strange things! Whatever gets them through the day, I guess! I get such a kick out of Luni, Wookie, Sprout and Mouse. Dr. Jill does an amazing job training them. No wonder they’re featured in commercials. Yes, the Inauguration is just around the corner now. I agree that we need some pictures! Funny, that Prince Fluffy bit! I wish you a happy Tuesday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Dear Sheena,
Sorry to hear that Kempton Park will be going the way of Hollywood Park and so many others. I hate when these wonderful historic sites get razed “in the name of progress”. So many memories are buried and so much history lost. :-(

If anyone else is a big fan of Texas Red, there are new photos of him home in Kentucky on his FB. He is one of the best looking horses I have seen in years. Not a lot of chrome but beautiful expressive face and built like a race horse. Keith also kept him well groomed in the mane department. Too bad there is no horsey GQ for these handsome dudes!

Death confirmed of Black Caviar’s dam
Darryl Sherer Racenet – 11 Jan 2017
The death has been confirmed of Helsinge, the dam of Black Caviar and All Too Hard.
The 15-year-old daughter of Desert Sun owned by Rick Jamieson’s Gilgai Farm was in foal to Written Tycoon but was euthanised last week.
The unbeaten Black Caviar was the first foal of Helsinge followed by Moshe, now at stud, followed by Group I winner All Too Hard, also now at stud.
Helsinge’s last living foal is the unraced three-year-old Brigite, by Casino Prince, still owned by Jamieson who also has Naturale, a four-year-old sister to Black Caviar.

Dear Judy:All NH fans are so saddened by the news of Kempton Park.I looked through the list of winners and so many old names came up Mandarin,Pendil, the Dikler Captain Christy Arkle and of course now Dessie and Kauto.Nicky Henderson is heartbroken. He can never imagine the King George being run at Sandown.Completely different track.More sad news about Helsinge and in foal too.
Yes I had forgotten you had posted about Frankly Speaking as he was called then.I cannot understand how he didn’t meet his reserve. He looks to have a good home now though.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
So sad to hear about the passing of Helsinge and her foal; only 15 years old. RIP.
Kempton Park is closing? Sad to see tracks that we love gone. Still call the local casino that we have in RI by it’s race track name, Lincoln Downs; even though it’s name has been changed for at least ten years and live racing has been gone even longer.
Yes, hard to believe Mozu Ascot didn’t meet his Reserve. Hope he has a successful, healthy and happy life.
Have a pleasant evening. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT. Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties
Sue Noel in Sun Valley, ID
Hi Marshall and all who have been wondering about Barnaby and Traveller. SO sorry to have been away from the blog for so lond !! Living in a ski resort at holiday time is CRAZYn !! The store has been an absolute ZOO since Thanksgiving. It is only just beginning to slow down now–and this weekend will be crazy again, due to the 3 day holiday weekend.
My December was just wild, as I was working full time, and rehearsing and performing in 6 different Christmas concerts! It was all fun, but, wow! Luckily, I waited until Christmas morning to come down with a cold !
Wish you could see Sun Valley right now–it is simply gorgeous. By the end of this week, we will probably have 5 feet of new snow on the ground ! I’m really grateful the the free city bus stops right across the street from the front door of my condo. My little Mighty Matilda Miata is safely parked in her heated garage !!
Barnaby and Traveller are doing great. Before this weeks storms, when it actually watrmed up TO snow, we had a long spell of REALLY col;d weather. One morning, when we were going down to see the horses, it was 19 below in Elkhorn, where I live !! River Sage is feeding the horses extra hay to help keep them warm, we put down 6 extra bales of shavings for their beds a week ago, and they shot out more hair ! They were warm and toasty under their hair laast weekend. Tjhey are enjoying their winter down at the farm. PENNY, THE WONDERFUL LADY WHO OWNS IT, DID HER USUAL GREAT JOB OF DECORATING THE ARENA. Oops-I’m suffering from caps lock by mistake mania—again. Those of you for whom I am lucky enough to have addresses have already seen our holiday card with Barnaby John checking out “his” tree. I simly MUST learn how to post photos on here,as I know many of you would like to see him–and Miss Traveller.
He continues to help her get well, her conditioning is coming slowly back. Sue had to get her a new saddle, as her old one no longer fits. Barnaby got several nice Christmas gifts–2 of them being from Traveller, who gave him some really great new non-rotating bell boots, as he has a small crack in one of his front hooves and they will help protect his feet when he is being ridden. She also gave him some great fleece polo wraps, which are brightly colored with a pattern in two shades of orange, blue, green, with an over-laid black pattern. When he wore them for the first time and saw his legs in the arena mirror–he stopped dead in his tracks to look at his feet !! It was just hysterical ! Every time we would pass he mirror, he would stop and look at his legs. Then I would ride him a little further and he would stop to look down at them and sniff them and touch them with his lips !!
Now, he is getting used to them and I think he likes the cozy feel of them—but-he still looks at himself in the mirror !! What a character his is–he just never ceases to amaze me. He doesn’t miss a thing !!
It is so nice to begin to catch up on posts I have missed over the holidays and see the lovely phots of Zenny. And,hasn’t Mr. Gormley been burning up the track?? Maybe another Moss win in the Derby–GO Gormley !!
Happy and cozy night to our lovely Queen, and all who love her. Love to all from Barnaby, Traveller, Boss Mare Sue–and little OLD me !!!!
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Sue:
Glad to hear from you and know that Barnaby, Traveler and all of you are well. Love and Hugs, JB
Darlene Daniels
Dear Sue,
So glad to hear from you. I was hoping you were just busy with choir season and the Christmas season. I can picture dear Barnaby stopping to look at himself in the mirrors. Too cute. Take care and please try to post again when you can. Love and hugz to you and Barnaby and Traveller.
Elizabeth in NM
Dear Sue,
Love your posts! So happy to hear from you and get the news on Barnaby and Traveler. It would be wonderful to see photos from you. Your so busy, but maybe you’ll get a chance this year to squeeze in time to do that. Too cute about the “Barnaby boots”. Sounds as if Barnaby should be doing ads for the boot company!
We thought we’d get up to Idaho on our summer trip this past summer, but we got ‘hung up’ in Wyoming taking photos. So good to hear from you, and “Happy New Year” to you and your Barnaby and Traveler. with love, Elizabeth
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sue,
YAY! So great to hear from you! Glad that everyone is fine and that you have had such a busy (in a good way) time. Yes, I would love to see Sun Valley enrobed in snow — I can just imagine how lovely it is — like a Christmas card, I guess. It is good that you can take the city bus and that it is so convenient to your condo. Love your name for your little Miata, “Mighty Matilda”; glad she has a warm barn, too.
Love your description of Barnaby with his snazzy new wraps. Too funny!! He really is pretty amazing and very bright, too. How sweet that he is so attentive to Traveller. They are devoted friends.
Enjoy the rest of the skiing season — great that business is doing so well. Love and Best Wishes to Barnaby, Traveller, Boss Mare Sue and of course, you. We all look forward to your posts, dear friend.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!
Hugs and Love
P.S. We got a little snow (~3 inches) here in Chapel Hill last Friday and Saturday. A real cold snap has allowed it to stay around, but unnatural warming up to 70°F tomorrow and Friday will dispense with it. We had quite a bit of sleet mixed with this so the roads/streets have been extremely ice-covered. Maybe the next snowfall will be entirely snow. One (me) can only hope.
Ann NC
Marshall, OH, the ice! Glad you had more marshmallows. Sing it, Dean.
Good to hear from you, Sue N.
Barnaby is a delightful character and love that he loves his snazzy wraps.
Take care!
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Ann,
The ice was a bummer, but the marshmallow (snow) part was fun and pretty.
I loved hearing Dean sing on the radio during the holidays — I have been known to sing that song while walking Bailey and Smudge, too. :-)
Love the marshmallows!!
Take care and slather on the sunscreen Thursday and Friday (70°F) if it is sunny!

The owls call to each other early on a mid-winter evening. Just as the last rays of sunlight sink into a rosy glow, a silence settles over the countryside. For a short time, everything is hushed. In that near-dark hour the wind lays and no sound is heard-as though the whole forest listens. The moment is brief as daytime creatures find their nests and those of the night begin to awaken. It is time to rest from our own activity, to find a quiet hour to let pressures ebb away. One of the greatest wonders is the rhythm and order of nature. But even greater is the flexibility of human nature-that we can move, think, project, plan and see all of it in perspective. And as the day wanes we can put it all down and take on the peace of nature.
Heed little the melancholy nights that keep tune with sorrowful thought.

Dear Kathy.I needed your devotional today.I am running late and appreciated the peaceful lwords. We need quiet times more than ever now.Dessie’s owner Richard Burridge has spoken out about the housing development at Kempton and Janice his lass is mad.A lot of racegoers are talking about a petition but I think it’s a done deal. There are a lot of gifts arriving from diggytaries for President Fibbs. He was on MNN reporting about the storms he always reminds us to keep our doughnuts dry and he was calling for his secret serbice.I watched a bit of Obama’s speech last night (late again)Why oh why do you cry for politicians?I would never dream of shedding a tear over ours.
Felix has her own blog now she had written about her Christmas with Auntie Jean and was photographed with some fresh salmon. She is going to start a fundraiser for one of Auntie Jean’s friends shortly.
Viktor went on a bit of a rant last night about the trolls on his FB.Carmen is doing very well on her3 legs but will need more surgery.
It was sad about Helsinge and in foal too seems a bad reaction to penicillin.I haven’t had much time to visit the rest.We are awaiting the snow everything will grind to a halt!Hope you have a good day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

As time goes by we learn it isn’t the speed with which we do our work, but the quality of time that makes life an accomplishment. How much do we enjoy working, or playing, or just resting? Schedules and deadlines take up most of what we do. We seldom have time to enjoy something for the sake of doing it. If we feel pressured, we have little incentive to enjoy doing anything, much less doing it well. Many who have to sit all day are bored and have nothing to think about except how unhappy they are or how they feel physically. More time is not the answer. We need a better quality of life, i ga osi, deeper rest, and it begins with quality attitudes. What we have or what we do not have should never dictate the quality of our lives, or our capacity to simply enjoy.
Some pass without recognition, the grandest of all…

Zenyatta I was hoping you were enjoying the warm rays of sunshine we’re getting in VA today but I checked your weather and although it is warmer than usual you will probably have rain…better stay dry, girly….warm winter days followed by cold days is a good way to catch a cold! Dear Kathy.I did not enjoy shopping in the rain today but did a little jig when I saw the “yellow perils”popping up in the churchyard,It has turned colder now.Heathrow cancelled 80 flights and not a single snowflake has fallen yet. It’s the same in summer we get a heatwave warning after one warm day. It’s aunty Emily’s birthday and I shared a short video of Hovis.
Is’nt politics fun these days?that press conference yesterday our spy gone into hiding and Trump isn’t even President yet.I am amazed Larry is quiet today I hadn’t realised our Tom Hiddleston went on and on about South Sudan at the Golden Globes. Why don’t these celebs realise we don’t give a toss what they think. The Swiss are very wise they will not allow a Dutch woman become a Swiss citizen because she is annoying!!She’s a left-wing vegan who wants them to stop putting bells around the cow’s necks!
Felix is moving closer to 101,000 and Brutus is in the chronicle again. There is still much anger about Kempton I am surprised Paul Nicholls is keeping quiet. There was a lovely photo of Dessie’s owner Richard B and Janice in the RP today at Dessie’s memorial service in 2006.The ratties were asking for suggestions about cute fings in the store.President Fibbs only has a week to go now before his inauguration. Are you still getting rain? One of my friends on FB is getting his girls Poppy and Pebbles spayed today.William seems to talk a lot more about his mother now very expensive coat with Kate.Have a good Friday eve.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXOXO

Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Christine:
Thank you; Lola Mae is a Little Love.
Through Zenyatta’s Blog, I met the most wonderful group of women who rescue horses.
There was one particular horse, Papa Charlie, a great grandson of Secretariat, that I had followed since he was born in Saratoga, NY in 2006. He is 17.2 hands and has a beautiful deep Chestnut coat with dark auburn mane and tail. He’s a real “character” with a very gentle soul. He’s my heart. He was in need of rescuing in 2012 and the ladies in the group helped me do just that. Luckily, he’s at a farm in Western Cranston, just 10 minutes from me and I get to visit him often.
Another horse, Hudson Township, a Bay mare one year younger than Charlie, was at Suffolk Downs when I picked Charlie up. I fell in love with her beautiful face and sent photos to the girls and they wanted to rescue her too. We did, and due to circumstances too complicated to explain here, the group ended up rescuing her twice. She’s since been adopted by a mother and daughter team who are into show jumping and she’s at a barn in Scituate now; about 30 minutes away from me. I get to see her at least twice a month. She’s quite a Diva who is known to bite if the opportunity presents itself. The girls have been patient and loving with her and she’s come a long, long way. She loves to jump and is doing great in competition.
My lasting gratitude to my friends in the rescue group is unending. Without them, neither of these beauties would be safe in forever homes or so well loved.
Here are photos of them. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sheena,
Oh no!!! “Yellow perils!” I hope Hovis stays well away from them. If you do get snow they’ll freeze! Happy birthday, Auntie Emily! I’ll look for that video! Politics is absolutely nuts. We’re really in for something! I think the stars make a real mistake voicing their opinions on political issues during award ceremonies. Wow, the Swiss got it right! Felix is to be congratulated. That’s wonderful. Very sad about Kempton. Such a shame. Nice that Dessie’s owners are in RP today. I’m sure people have lots of suggestions about cute fings for the ratties to sell! Yes, we’re still getting rain. It’s drizzling right now. Feel better, Poppy and Pebbles! Poor William. Being a Royal doesn’t shield you from heartbreak. Will look for Kate’s coat. She has some beautiful ones! Have a good Friday Eve! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
