Dear Z Fans:
Asking you to pray for one of the horses at the farm. His name is Archie. He’s a beautiful Paint withe one blue eye and one brown, that Angela rescued four years ago from the New Holland kill pen in Pennsylvania. She rescued him and Willow, a TB mare, at the same time.
Archie is one of the Sweeties that I would give treats to when I visit Charlie. He would nicker and whinny when he heard my voice. I’m so very sad because I noticed last month that he wasn’t walking right and I asked Angela what was going on with him. She said he went lame and the vet was treating him with pain med. He has since developed laminitis and his condition is deteriorating. I saw him on Wednesday when I visited Charlie and he wouldn’t even come over to me for some carrots. Please pray for him. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
I am so sorry to hear this news about Archie. I certainly will keep him in thoughts and prayers — also, you and Angela, too. St. Francis, please watch over Archie. ?

Am praying for Archie – for miracles, please, God. Sheena, I am so sorry about Cujo. Am also praying for Kathy and Doug and you. Dear, sweet Hovis! He makes us joyful.
What a blessing to have such sweet animal and human lives that we get to know at least a bit and often ‘alot’. It is so hard to say good-bye when the time comes. I hope and plan to be united again with them and you all down the road – can’t imagine any other way than to be all together again. with love, Elizabeth

Royal Delta Dies Due to Foaling Complications
By BloodHorse Staff February 10, 2017
Three-time Eclipse Award winner Royal Delta passed away at age nine earlier this week due to complications from foaling a filly by Galileo at Coolmore Ireland. The surviving bay filly is reported to be doing well.

Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear BGG,
This is such awful news, and I am so sorry; this is a tragedy indeed. The only ray of sunshine here is that her one and only foal survived and is reportedly doing well. It does seem that a broodmare career just wasn’t for her. Bless her beautiful, strong-willed soul.
Rest in Peace, courageous Royal Delta. Running in the care of the angels now.

Good bye and good luck, Royal Delta

Does anyone know when Zenny’s due date is?? Was she not bred late? After her foal died so tragically? Please advise. Sheena?Anyone?
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Marilyn:
Believe Z is due late March, early April. Love and Hugs, JB
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Marilyn.I know Zenyatta was covered on April 21st so should be due towards the end of march.Hoping for an easy foaling.Hugs
Z13Rulz
If you go back through the blogs, Zenyatta was first bred to MdO on May 2nd. ( https://staging.zenyatta.com/news/zenyatta-bred-to-medaglia-doro )There is a specific blog post that says this. But she was not announced as being in foal to MdO till July 7th. (https://staging.zenyatta.com/news/zenyatta-in-foal-to-medaglia-doro )
She probably won’t be due to foal until late April early May. I offer this only so we don’t get into March and people start worrying when there is no foal yet.
sheena.davies(wales)
Thank you for this news.It looks as if we will get another April foal.Hugs
Max
If you read what 13 is saying about the times, it’s not certain when the breeding actually took. As 13 says, the birth of the foal could well be in May. We must await events.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Z13Rules, Sheena, Max and Z Fans:
Thank you for this info. Yes, wouldn’t want to cause alarm by giving the wrong due date. All of us are Anxious Aunties (and Uncles) as it is. We must be patient. Praying all will be well with Z and the new baby. Love and Hugs, JB
Z13Rulz
Max is correct.
On the May 2nd blog they said she was bred that morning and they would check at 15 days to see if she was in foal. Then we heard nothing till July 7th.
A few things could have happened.
1) She took on the May 2nd cover and they didn’t announce she was in foal until after 60+ days. In which case she would probably foal mid/late April.
2) She did NOT take on the May 2nd cover and they had to go back when she came back into season approximately 3 weeks later. Which would mean the July 7th announcement was 30+ days, which is historically when Team Z has announced her as being in foal. In which case her foaling date would be in May.
3) She did NOT take on two covers and went for a third cover sometime in June and the July 7th announcement was at 15+ days in foal. In which case she certainly won’t foal till late May.
Given Team Z’s history of waiting till the 36+ day mark to announce in foal (when the risk of absorption drops dramatically) I personally believe she had to go to MdO twice to get in foal, which puts her due date in early May.

So sorry to hear about Royal Delta. She was one of my favorite mares. She was a determined challenger in all her races, loved to see the look in her eye when she decided she was going to win.
Was the complication the size of the foal since she was delivering her first foal? I understand she did not settle the first year and then aborted the following year.
Such a talented Champion RIP Royal Delta….thank you for all your exciting races.

Dear Judy, will be sending lots of prayers Archie’s way, as I know all the good people on this site will do also. Such sad news about Royal Delta. May she rest in peace & run free beautiful girl, love Christine. P.S. Hope you dug your self out if our snowstorm ok.

Hi everyone. Just dropping into say hello again and that I think of all of the Dumplings –and ZENNY–(and her family) often. Not too much to add from SoCal now except more rain. (Yes I know it’s not like the east coast! Brr!) Sad about Royal Delta and happy for AP’s latest. Hope everyone’s critters are -or get to be–healthy. And yes we eagerly await what will happen with Gormley and Royal Mo. Go John!! (And Dottie, too. :-) ) And how about Unique Bella the other day? WOW. Ok….later all! Have a good weekend !
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Anne,
Good to see a post from you! Hope you all are doing well and aren’t suffering too much from all the rain. I know it is a mixed blessing — the drought is eased greatly, but the large quantity of rain in a short span of time can cause big problems. Either too much or too little.
Take care and keep in touch!

Unseen – Horse Practices in His Free Time
From article
But wait until we tell you a story, based on the video below! This horse enjoys spending some time on his own, doing the things that he loves to do- cutting! That’s why he is different, he likes to play around with the cows, who doesn’t seem to take him for serious, but still he loves to play cutting.

I too wish to say “Run Happy and Free” Royal Delta has left us much, much too soon. Also, I understand a horse named Archie is having difficulty also. Sure hope he can recover. LAMINITIS has taken far too many of our lovely, lovely horses Grr! On a happier note, I saw that Ziconic worked five furlongs today as did Gormley. Good luck to both of them. Judy B,
Sending up prayers for Archie’s healing. Hope the poor guy does well.
On a happier note, Claiborne and Ms. Dilschnider have a promising 3 year old filly running this weekend. Her name is Elate. She is out of MdO! They usually don’t breed to other than the Claiborne stallions and hopes are high for this girl. Also, Isabella Sings is entered this weekend. Safe trip to all of the horses, especially these 2 girls.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Thank you so much for your prayers for Archie. Very worried for him.
Like this filly’s name and love her Daddy. Godspeed to her and to Isabella. Hope Izzy gets a chance to rate a bit this time and finish strong. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
There is a breeding terminology problem here. A foal is always “out of” the dam. In this case, Elate is out of Cheery. It is therefore fairly clear where she may have gotten her name. She is “by” her sire, Medaglia D’oro.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Max and Shirlee:
Elate’s Dam, Cheery, is by Distorted Humor who’s sire is Forty Niner. Her great, great grandsire is Danzig. This filly has very nice breeding. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
She does indeed have excellent breeding on both sides. Danzig was a very tough customer. There is a video of him in the snow in his paddock at Claiborne with a look about him of don’t dare mess with me. He was not the most handsome of horses, but he managed however to produce one of most beautiful horses of all time, Danehill.
Christine
Dear Judy,
