Dear Kathy,
Very wise words. Important to note by our attention deficient disposable culture today. Everybody is always eager to embrace the next new gadget or thing which is on the fast-track to obsolescence before it’s even manufactured. I personally love things that last — boy, am I a dinosaur! A proud dinosaur though.
Thanks for the devotionals.
Hugs and Love
Kathy
Dear Marshall,
I’m a dinosaur, too! lolol I’m right there with you on things that last!

Both STUNNING! Best of luck to them! Thank you for posting, Max.

Max,
Thanks for posting this article by Cynthia Holt. Her photos of Royal Mo and Gormley are great — especially the RM photo, you can “see” him running in this still! They are really good-looking colts, both of them — gorgeous.
Best wishes and fingers crossed for these two and of course, for JS and the Mosses.
Hugs
Max
Agree that these are great photos. Victor looks tiny on Mo’s back. Both of these colts are mighty fine.
shirleeinindy
Thanks Max.
Gormley appears to have a body much like Zi and Royal Mo is a big guy like Coz. So glad for the Zenyatta team to have these 2. No matter if either of these 2 are TC winners, John, Ann & Jerry will always be the Zenyatta Team!

Dear Max, Sally, Marshall, Sheena, Peggy, Ann and Z Fans:
Took advantage of the almost 60 degree day today and visited Hudson and Charlie.
Hudson was in the far paddock, so I called to her and she came flying over like a flash to get her treats. She was enjoying the lovely day and was caked in mud from rolling in it.
Charlie has been up to his old tricks chewing on the other horses tails, so Angela had him by himself in a small paddock that she made with some posts and fabric fencing. He’s been complaining by whinnying loudly his displeasure at being separated from his Buds. Last week he decided to make a run for it and jumped the fence. He then proceeded to prance around the lawn of the house and in the the area near the paddocks; tail flagged and enjoying his freedom until Angela got him on a lead rope. Have to say, he did look gorgeous parading proudly. Alex caught the whole thing on video.
I gave him a good talking to today, along wit some treats. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Perhaps Douvan has some competition if Charlie is taking up jumping. I’m always happy to hear about Charlie and Hudson. Characters in the finest sense. What’s happening with our favorite emu?
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Frank is doing just fine; still enjoying his jelly Munchkins treats from Dunkin Donuts. Love and Hugs, JB
Sally Blank (cherishes Z and her foals)
Dear Judy B; I am so glad I came here this evening. Oh yes! there seems to be a clear difference between Hudson and Charlie! ha, ha. I am happy that Charlie does like his buds even though he eats away their tails. It must have been quite an adventure having your precious Charlie jump a fence and then have him free.
I loved your post Judy.
love n hugs, Sally B
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Sally:
Yes, Hudson and Charlie are very different in personality. I wish I could show you the video of him.
How are Fancy, Jo and the goats doing? Hope you are doing well too. Love and Hugs, JB
Elizabeth in NM
Dear Judy and Z Family,
Have to say, I’m with Charlie . . . run as fast as you can! We all love our freedom. Love the ‘poncing’ (as Hovis would say – aka prancing)! Doesn’t it always feel good to let loose and then ponce?! I want to say to Charlie “RUN!”. But I know he’s being more than well cared for, and has a good home, so I’ll pray he only pushes as far as is ‘reasonable’. Sometimes I’m not fond of ‘reasonable’ myself. Hudson, on the other hand is a ‘girl’ after my own heart ~ just to hear the word ‘TREATS’ make me look in every direction until I see or ‘sniff’ their location (and of course – then get to munch).
On the home front, Baby (now soon to be ‘Papa’, so I suppose we can’t call him our ‘baby RR’ anymore ) and Momma (his new ‘wife) roadrunners are roosted ‘together’ in our cedar tree on the west side tonight. Soon little pterodactyls (as we call them – they have such a prehistoric voice and are a bit . . . well, more than a ‘bit’, carnivorous) we think will be arriving. I guess, I’ll have to give a shout to all of the birds every morning when we feed them to ‘RUN!’ (or ‘fly’ in their case) as fast as you can, or ‘you’ll be eaten’ by the RR’s! RR’s need to eat too, but I wish they’d become ‘vegans’!
Hope you and everyone here in Zenny’s family have a wonderful evening. Am so thankful, at least, that the RR’s don’t hunt at night.
Wishing you and Zenny and all Z Fans and horses have a wonderful evening.
with love, Elizabeth
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Elizabeth:
Yes, Charlie was so proud of himself. I have to agree with you and Hudson on the treats; very fond of them myself.
Please keep us posted on the RR couple. Beep, beep! Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Elizabeth,
Keep us posted on the “newly weds”! Pterodactyls — LOL!
I enjoy your descriptions very much.

Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Judy, Sounds like Charlie is having a terrific time. So glad you got out to see them before it gets a lot colder.
Love so much hearing about all of them.Makes my Day.
Got Jordan back to the vet today for his annual appointment shots. Was so worried because this is where he got loose almost a year ago. Was worried about getting him in his carrier without getting all bit up. He resisted a little at first, but then he settled and was so good. When the Dr and tech took him out of the carrier I was just shocked at how good he behaved. He did not growl at them once. Just a little gentleman. I stayed right with him. So proud of him. Still just so Thankful and blessed that I found him. Just my little miracle pet.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Peggy,
So happy to hear that Jordan behaved so well for you and the vet. He is a lucky little guy to have been found by you! ?
Hugs and Love
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Thank You Marshall. I looked for almost 2 months for him before I found him. I was so blessed that the man saw my reward and Jordan’s picture in the paper. I just felt like he was out there somewhere. Had looked everywhere for him.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
Charlie is a character and I just love him.
Oh, so good to hear that Jordan was such a good boy at his check up with the Vet. He truly is adorable. Love and Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Judy, I really think he’s matured a lot since last year. And, I was glad there were no dogs in there yesterday. That dog last year I guess about scared him to death. My heart was in my throat remembering what happened last year.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
I can imagine the visit brought back all the stress and memories of losing him. He is a miracle kitty and just so beautiful.
You never gave up and kept looking and investigating every possibility. Thank God and St. Francis you found him. Love and Hugs, JB
Elizabeth in NM
Dear Peggy,
So happy that Jordan was a good lad. I can sympathize with him – don’t like to be poked and prodded myself at the doctor’s – and she’s a friend of ours. But it’s great that it wasn’t an ‘ordeal’ Good for you and Jordan and the vet! Hope you have a wonderful day today. with love, Elizabeth
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Hey Elizabeth, Thank You. I think i’m one very lucky pet owner to have found my little baby. Never will I forget that call from that man. I had lots of calls from people thought they saw him. But, this call the man asked me if I had found my cat. He said I think I might have found him. Not sure, but it sure might be him. He was looking at his picture talking to me on the phone from the paper. He said it sure looks like him. It was, then we just had to catch him. Took a few days, but we finally got him.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
What a great post about Hudson and Charlie! So glad you had a nice day to visit them, too. Charlie is expanding his range of talents! I know he was so pleased with himself prancing around on the lawn, as if to say: “Ta-Da! Don’t fence me In ’cause I can jump!”
Like Hudson, I do like treats. I hope Charlie takes your talk to heart and will not jump out again and maybe lay off the tail-chewing, too. ?
Enjoyed this very much.
Hugs and Love
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
I’m with you and Hudson with the treats.
Oh, I do hope Charlie paid attention to my words today. I know he will have fun once the storm is over. Angela said she will let him in the paddock in the snow for a while with the other horses. He loves the snow and he’ll be too busy running and playing in it to rearrange any tails. Love and Hugs, JB

Classic Empire’s foot problem & Tepin Update
FYI FOY is the Mar. 4 GII Fountain of Youth S.
New Diagnosis for Classic Empire; FOY Possible
By Bill Finley TDN Wednesday, February 8, 2017
After originally concluding that Classic Empire (Pioneerof the Nile) ran poorly in Saturday’s GII Lambholm South Holy Bull S. because his colt did not handle the trip from Palm Meadows to Gulfstream, trainer Mark Casse has found a new explanation for the Eclipse Award-winning colt’s subpar performance.
It took a few days, but Casse discovered a significant problem with the colt’s right front foot and is now certain that’s why he ran a distant third as the heavy favorite in the race.

Dear BgG,
Wish Classic Empire would have more time before racing again.

February 9 – 12 Cherokee Devotionals
Hi everyone, I will be gone for a few days. Here are the Devotionals:
February 9
To some, power is domination, ruling anything defenseless. But that isn’t power, it is abuse, and abuse is cowardly. Abuse takes advantage where it can, always pretending to be the victim, but looking for the opportunity to overpower. Forget the idea that power is from the world. Whole worlds have been changed in minutes. Power that was bold and bragging can suddenly be a whimper. Empires have crashed and those that caused so much misery have deflated like balloons. Real power is not nigvnhdiha, which is understood by the Cherokee to be put on. It is from an inner source, characteristically calm, like a great river that flows smoothly but drives huge cities with energy. A single drop of water seems powerless and takes the way of least resistance, but joined to all the others, it has force. One person may seem inadequate to change anything, but united with others, can change anything.
The red man must leave the land of his youth and find a new home in the far west.
Shabonee 1827
February 10
Turn around right where you are and face the frightening situation, the lion, hlvdaji, on your path. Don’t waver and dodge. Look the problem in the eye and call it nothing. Speak to it in definitive words so that there is no doubt that it must go. Wisdom tells us to get out of harm’s way at times, but it never tells us to weep with fear. Once we turn to face it, a quiet determined strength pours in to end the terror. Fear is terrorism. It is not running from it that cripples us but refusing to call it what it is. When fear takes over it flows through all our thinking. If we have any faith at all, it is scared faith, but faith will grow when we charge it with determination and powerful words.
Make everything straight and strong.
Dragging-Canoe
February 11
Many things from the past echo faintly within us-voices, sounds, thoughts. Only a few ring clear like a bell from many long ago seasons. Persistent memories call us back to deal with details-some of them best forgotten. Why do we remember? Perhaps to clarify what we feel, to help us be more objective about the present moment. Or maybe to force us to see the pattern of our own lives so that we may throw out events that have been obstacles. Sometimes we remember just so we can be grateful. Like the well-fed dog that turns primitive at the sight of a bone, we pick up on our own instincts and react before we think. If we see what is about to happen we can meet it with good humor and have less need to make everyone in the present time pay dearly for what happened so long ago.
I want peace, that we may…sleep in our houses and rise in peace on both sides.
Bloody-Fellow
February 12
The Cherokee can agree with Sir Francis Drake when he wrote about the herb garden, “A perfect garden planted with herbs, when trod upon gives the very air a delightful fragrance.” But to the Cherokee it meant even more-food and medicine. As a child, I spent much time following my Grandmother Essie in search of herbs, mullein, lamb’s quarter and other things I hoped I wouldn’t have to eat in greens, but the hunt was a joy. Kneeling to dig the herbs, feeling the soil and the warmth of the sun, gave me the realization that the plants were only a part of a gift from Asga Ya Galun lati. I was also being given the day to day enjoyment, the songs of dozens of birds, the little meal I shared with Grandmother, and her company away from others.
A Cherokee woman is never idle and has no time to tattle or to create mischief.

Many thanks for all the birthday wishes and my best wishes to Marshall on our mutual special day.
We both share a special time with Fast Market who was 31 on February 4th. He is a son of Secretariat who lives in very happy retirement in Pennsylvania at Bright Futures farm. He was quite naughty when he was racing and is well remembered at our Fort Erie Track for his bad behavior, even tho he did win the Puss In Boots race. These days he is an absolute sweetie and enjoys visits from his friends, especially those from Fort Erie who always take him lots of treats.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Brenda,
Thanks for the birthday wishes and for posting the news of Fast Market. Happy Birthday to Fast Market (a little belated but no less sincere). Great to know a son of Secretariat is happy and doing well in Pennsylvania. Nice that he is remembered at Fort Erie, too. So he has mellowed in his mature years — that means there is hope for me, too. ?

Dear Judy B., Abigail and Shirlee,
Thanks so much for the warm birthday wishes! I have had a quiet day since I had the cataract surgery on my right eye on Tuesday. Everything went well, and the vision in that eye is amazingly clear. I drove myself to WalMart this afternoon because I was tired of being in the house. That went just fine, too.
I have birthday celebrations to come in the next few days and even into next week. My dear friends wanted to wait until I recovered from the procedure so I have good eats and CAKE in the very near future! ?
Hugs and Love to all
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Marshall.I am glad the cataract surgery was a success. You will have plenty of time to celebrate in the next few days and be able to enjoy your CAKE.Take care.Love and hugs Sheena.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
Thank you, my friend. Have a good weekend!
Hugs and Love
Brenda Springer
Marshall, I had my cataracts removed and I can now watch the races all the way around the track. What a bonus to be able to see them run the whole race instead of just a blur down the backside. Enjoy your new vision.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Brenda,
Yes, it is amazing the difference in vision without the cataract. I had no idea that cataracts were developing; I thought something needed tweaking since I had Lasik surgery done in 2012. The left eye will need doing, but I don’t know how soon — it isn’t as affected as yet. It is incredible how bright and crisp vision in the right eye is now compared to the vision in what I thought is my stronger eye, the left one.
Hugs and Love
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
Glad your recovery is going well. Have a wonderful time at your parties; enjoy your cake and treats. Love and Hugs to You, Bailey and Smudge, JB and LM

Dear quarterhossgal:
I know that ZI worked three times in December and three times in January. COZ did not have a Workout Heading on his Equibase chart when I last checked. I’m wondering if that means he’s not actively training.
Hope we hear something on the boys soon. We love them both so much. Love and Hugs, JB

Happy Birthday, Marshall ! I hope you have fun at all your upcoming celebrations. Glad the cataract surgery went well. Say “Hi” to Bailey & Smudge for Amy & Cappy.
Dear Judy,
Thinking of you & Lola Mae. Hope that you dig out of the big storm quickly. It was originally predicted that we were to get 3-5″ here – we ended up with about a foot. I had to call one of my brothers to help me get the snowblower started.
I enjoyed hearing about Charlie’s adventure. I’m glad you got to see Hudson & him before the storm.
Hi, Elizabeth,
I really like your updates on “your” Roadrunner & his family. I am a birder (birdwatcher) & I look forward to your bird stories as well as Sheena’s Osprey updates. I have never been to your part of the country, but hope to get there some day. The woman who was my best friend in high school lives in Albuquerque. Do you live near there?
Hi, beautiful Zenny!
I am looking forward to seeing you with your new little one soon. You are a fantastic mom and I can’t wait to see you teaching the new baby all she or he needs to know to have a wonderful life.
Hello to Coz & Ziconic. We would love to hear what you two have been up to. Please ask John to send us an update.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Donna,
Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! I look forward to celebrating the birthday for as many days as possible. :-) The cataract surgery went great, and I am enjoying the whiter whites and brighter colors. It is nice to know what to expect when the left eye gets done.
Hope you are doing okay and are improving with each day. How is Amy? Bailey and Smudge just reminded me to send regards and Woofs to Amy and Cappy! ??

How is Amy doing? I hope you are feeling better. Lola and I are doing fine. Thank you for asking. Love an Hugs, JB

Winx race postponed due to hot weather
Heat forces Randwick race move
Posted by: AAP 10/2/2017
The predicted extreme heat in Sydney has prompted racing officials to postpone the Apollo Stakes meeting at Randwick because of welfare concerns for horses and human participants.
Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club have moved the meeting from Saturday to Monday and adjusted the race times with the Apollo to jump at 5.40pm to allow as many people as possible to get to the track after work to watch Winx.
