On this day in 1952 the young Princess Elizabeth was told of her father’s death while visiting Treetops Hotel in Kenya.Today she becomes the first monarch in the UK to commemorate a Sapphire Jubilee. As usual she spends accession day quietly in Sandringham. She has seen Prime Ministers and Presidents come and go.We all know her and yet we don’t.She has an air of mystery about her which is as it should be.The one constant in this ever changing world. We are ,indeed, truly blessed to have her.God bless you Ma’am Long may you long continue to reign.

February 6 Cherokee Devotional
Little things heal our hurts. Sounds, scents, the spoken word, and music that may mean nothing to someone else can reach into our souls and do a work that ordinary methods cannot touch. Simple remedies can heal the deepest ills-a love that springs from inner wells, the sounds of birdsong and the laughter of children at play. Our work is to avoid the negative side-to think and speak only healing words, loving words. Choices are possible. Though we make many of them a day, we do it so unconsciously that we have not realized their effect-fretting about every little thing, letting the world steal our peace, and lying down when we should be up and doing. Choose to be well, to find contentment and to be a role model for those who watch. Listen for peace.
Listen! Or your tongue will make you deaf.

Dear Kathy,
What an inspiring and true devotional. We just don’t always realize it is our choice… about how we react, how we decide. It takes ‘breathing’ before we respond and thinking before we say words we cannot take back after being spoken. We get impatient and don’t give time to let ideas and words be thoughtfully sifted as through a filter. Hope you and everyone here on Zenny’s website have a wonderful evening. with love, Elizabeth PS I so appreciate your devotionals, and how much they make us more aware of the preciousness of not speaking thoughtlessly. Quietness is rare.
Kathy
Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you so much for your kind words! We would all be wise to really think before we speak. We can’t take those words back after the fact, and we can really affect others with our words. I wish you a good evening, as well. Hugs, Kathy

Just wondering…..any idea why we have not had any current information on how Zenyatta is doing? She is due pretty soon, like the end of March or early April, right? Also, no word on “the boys”. Any recent works? If they just are not making it as racehorses, what will the Moss’ do with them? Historically, any idea what they have done with their horses that just dont make the cut? I know we all love them because they are Zenyatta’s babies, but we also know not all thoroughbreds, no matter how good their pedigree, make it as racehorses.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Lynn:
Think you’re right on the due date for Z.
ZI worked twice in December and three times in January; last work 1/26/17. COZ’s chart shows no works this year. I’m starting to wonder if he’s still actively training. Love and Hugs, JB
Lynn Martin
I have a feeling you may be right about Coz. However, I doubt we will ever know where he ends up! I cant imagine a family or small farm lucky enough to get him for their own, facing the crowds of people who would want to come and see him, pet him, love on him. I know he will be lovingly cared for by someone, but I doubt we will ever know!
Max
Coz has too valuable genes (Z and Bernie and the generations before them) to end up as a pet on a farm. Maybe he’s no elite racehorse like his parents, but his offspring might well be.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Lynn and Max:
COZ has valuable genes alright; Z, Bernardini, Street Cry, Machiavellian, AP Indy, Secretariat, Roberto! He has potential to be a very successful sire.
I will never forget the night he was born; the excitement and the love pouring over on the pages of Z’s Blog and Ann’s sweet and tearful comments on the video about what a caring and protective Mom Z was to him. She said, “She loves him”, and all of us always will too. He’s the First Prince. Love and Hugs, JB
Lynn Martin
I was wondering about that, if he would be used at stud. Even though he has such good genes, would he be used much knowing he did not make it as a racehorse? Mare owners might ask why he did not make it in races. Confirmation problem or temperment problem? Could these problems be genetic? Interesting thought. When choosing a stud dog, I look not only at pedigree, but at the dog himself. Being a show champion is good as it shows he has good confirmation, movement and temperment. However, if I can see a dog in person, see his qualities and see that he has “what I want” in my bloodline, having not been shown to championship is not all that important. However an “all champion” pedigree is impressive!!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Judy.Good to hear Tepin is better she got some minor colic issues over the weekend.Rumour has it Annie Power is going to be a broodmare.Mullins hasn’t had the best of seasons but life never runs smoothly does it?Such an open champion Hurdle this year.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Max
Annie Power should retire. She’s had a brilliant career and has nothing whatsoever to prove. She’s also 9. Time to pass on her talent to her foals. A vacation in Yorkshire with the admiring Moose wouldn’t be a bad option either.
Mullins will have to draw on his up and comers for Cheltenham. He’s still got Douvan. No other horse can jump like Douvan can. His is totally effortless form combined with outstanding good looks. He also has the personality of a cooperative and sweet dispositioned pony. Douvan knows exactly what he is doing. A professional in every sense. Shorty is just along for the ride.
sheena.davies(wales)
As you can imagine Rich is rather frustrated. The prognosis on Annie isn’t good but no mention of retirement yet.He hopes Faugheen and Min will be back in time for the Punchestown festival.Yes,maybe some bracing Yorkshire air would help Annie and Moosie looks really fit and well now.We are all looking forward to seeing Douvan in the champion chase.Rich thinks it will be his stiffest test to date.I think the ‘Fly’ has mellowed now.He gets so many visitors.Montjeu was such a loss for Coolmore having sired I think 4 Derby winners. So many ups and downs in this sport we love.
Max
You are right. Constant change and not all of it good. Douvan races like he is all alone. It’s unusual to see a horse who is so other worldly. Shorty seems to have little or no role. Douvan wins on a hand ride after a display of superb jumping. He sails over those jumps. Mullins says that it’s the horse’s natural ability, not training that does it. Remarkable.
Max
Notice where the groom has her left hand – in Douvan’s mouth. Cannot see The Fly or Big D ever being that tranquil, especially after a race. The fingers would be history.
http://www.bbc.com/sport/horse-racing/38874902
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Wow, Douvan must have a very gentle disposition. Couldn’t try that with Hudson either. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Mullins has said that Douvan is so gentle that a kid could lead him. What is really unusual is that Douvan’s grand sire is Montjeu. He was a horse with issues, often called an eccentric genius of a horse. He most often passed on his character to his offspring. The Fly is his son. Douvan is clearly against the tide. He might take after his dam.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
Wishing Annie a healthy, happy life as a Mama. Sure Mullins will bounce back. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties

Sue Noel in Sun Valley, ID
Wow !! She is indeed stunning–and SO rare !! Her mom is very loelt too !!
Sheena–I am so glad you posted that reminder about Her Majesty. I remember that day as though it were yesterday !! I was just devastated.I had just lost my mom in a tragic auto accident, the September before and my younger brother and I had gone to live with my paternal grand parents, as my dad had been in the hospital for over 3 months after the accident, and had moved down to California, where we joined him after the end of the school year.
I had become fascinated with Her Majesty during the war,and more so, after reading The Little Princesses, by Marion Crawford”, When the King passed away, I was so sad for all of them, I wore grey and black for three months that 8th grade year. My grandmother couldn’t quite understand why I had to be in mourning, but got used to it.
When Prince Charles was born, I wrote to the palace asking if I could send a baby gift for him. I received back a short, but lovely, note from the Queen’s Lady in Waiting, on black bordered Windsor Castle stationery, saying that, unfortunately, the Royal Family was not allowed to accept gifts from the public. It meant so much to me to be acknowledged in that way. My grandfather was a newspaper man and so my story hit a couple of papers, which my photo holding the letter. It was quite a healing experience after losing my mom. It seems strange to see him now as an elderly man, as the other experience seems as if it were not that long ago.
I have never fallen out of love with Her Majesty-I surely hope that she outlives me,as I cannot imagine the world without her!
Traveller nicked her legs on the ice down there–she has been seen by the vet and is now sporting a thick gauze wrap, secured by one of Barnaby’s gaily-colored fleece wraps. Luckily, they are washable as I am sure it will be filthy by the time Sue changes it. The wraps came with very nice net laundry bag, so that they can be washed without tangling up. I rode Barnaby yesterday and suggested that we were a bit short of time, so it would be good if he wouldn’t play the “mounting block game” this time. He had other ideas, so Boss Mare Sue eventUALLY TIRED OF MY COAXING HIM AND CAME OVER TO HOLD HIM SO THAT i COULD GET ON. ( Ooops–the dreaded Caps Lock strikes again !!) He is such a character–sometimes just has to have things done his way !!
Sweet dreams, sweet Zenny–and to all; who love you !!

Always remember that certain circumstances are not ours to alter. We make the most of them and go on. We can only be examples, never controllers of other people’s lives, other people’s children, other people’s circumstances. Some would have us believe we contribute to harsh events by doing nothing. But some of the best work, some of the deepest caring and doing is not physically evident in the beginning. Help of any kind must be wanted and recognized before it can do any good. Too much help where it is not appreciated can make even a good person helpless. We have to be wise in our giving, and particularly wise in what we withhold, because it may be what we withhold helps the most.
We were contented to let things remain as the Great Spirit made them.

Japanese Horse Of The Year Maurice Will Shuttle To Australia In 2017
by Paulick Report Staff | 02.07.2017 |
Named the Horse of the Year by the Japan Racing Association in 2015, Maurice has already been booked full for his first northern hemisphere season at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan. Owner Katsumi Yoshida said that he will send Maurice the best mare in his band, Gentildonna, two-time Horse of the Year and seven-time Group 1 winner. On Tuesday, Australia’s Arrowfield Stud announced that the six-time Group 1 winner will shuttle to the southern hemisphere for its breeding season, beginning in 2017, according to livetradingnews.com.
“Nobody could fail to be impressed by Maurice’s extraordinary performances at the highest level,” said Arrowfield’s Chairman John Messara. “We are privileged to have the opportunity to stand the Yoshidas’ charismatic superstar whose physique, 1600-metre dominance and Danehill-free status make him a wonderful addition to our roster.”
In Australia, Maurice will stand for $A33,000 (approximately $25,000 US).

Yay Moosie !! He just needed t find the thing he WANTED to do !
Thanks, Sheena–It WAS a blow, coming two weeks before my 13th birthday. It always makes Sept. 14 a sad day for me. It may have made my sympathy for Her Majesty losing her father even stronger.
We are getting MORE snow today. Next week, they are going to start plowing out all of the pens–they did about half of each one to give them wide paths to their food and water a couple of weeks ago, now they are offering us the option of having the pens completely plowed out so that they will not flood when all of this snow melts in the spring. It will be well worth the extra money to have it done–and then Traveller shouldn’t get any more nicks on her legs from the ice. So far, Barnaby has done well tromping through the ice and snow without getting hurt. We haven’t had a winter like this in about 25 years!! It will be great for the water table this summer !!
Sweet dreams, Zenny girl. Wish you could see your new neighbor, down the road a piece–you would fall instantly madly in love with that gorgeous red boy!!

Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
It is quite hot here today considering it IS February — mid to upper 70’s! What a roller coaster this season has been. I think January represented three months: the first week with winter temps and snow, the middle had gray drizzly moderate temps rather like February usually is of late, and then we got some strong winds as occur in March at the end of January. Now February seems to think that it really is May or late April — CRAZY! Yet, climate change is a hoax, Hah! It may be cyclical, but humanity has certainly contributed negatively to the wacko weather patterns. IMHO.
It will be much cooler tomorrow, and then back up to unnaturally warm by the weekend. I dislike it very much, alas. I would gladly take a little of that snow!
Hugs and Love

It is interesting to see someone take one little idea and make it grow into something that benefits many people. Could it be that an idea hangs before us like a worm in a chrysalis that is able to emerge as a beautiful ka ma ma-butterfly? When we reach for the stars we should remember that we are rooted and grounded in little things. The basis for success that lasts is the knowledge that slow and careful construction cannot be toppled by fickle and fast-moving tastes. So much is made to be temporary-the fast-moving fads-and people jump aboard to ride them for the duration. In the process the ka ma ma is crushed before it ever develops, and the pupa-idea must begin all over again. But it remembers its beginnings, its basic purpose.
I may be forced to adopt a new way of life, but my heart and spirit spring from the red earth.
