Happy New Year Zenyatta!

Dear Zenyatta,
You and Vixana stay warm and comfortable during these cold snowy days. Your pictures warm my heart and make me smile.
I have the 2017 Claiborne Farm calendar. The January picture is a foal with snow on its nose. The fuzzy ears, expressive face and long lashes bring to mind the unforgettable and still mourned, Z Princess. Hoping for a MDO filly!

An insider history of Mike Smith with his take on Arrogate. Great read
Smith comes full circle with Arrogate
Sean Clancy January 27, 2017 The Inside Rail
The first was Bat Prospector.
Mike Smith had arrived in New York earlier that year. I hadn’t arrived anywhere. It was 1990. In the jocks’ room to ride a no-hoper in the opening jump race, I worked up the nerve to introduce myself to Smith, who was due to ride Mike Freeman’s Bat Prospector later that afternoon. I had galloped the filly a couple of times, figured it was an icebreaker, a conversation starter. We shook hands, talked about the filly and became fast friends. I was in awe of the New Mexico kid who had come to New York with finesse and flare.
I had watched Cordero, Velasquez, Santos and all their strength. I had watched Samyn, Krone and Antley and all their touch. I had watched Davis, Migliore and Bailey and their ability to simply win.
But I had never seen one like Smith.

Dear BGG,
Of course, since we’re from NM, we love Mike Smith! But also because he is such a gentleman and has the kindest heart. A kind heart . . .and a great competitive spirit. I think both attributes are synonymous with winning. Loved your comments about him!
Am having a hard time choosing between CC and Arrogate in the race. Hope you and everyone here on Zenny’s website have a wonderful evening.
with love, Elizabeth

Thank you! Wonderful article.

From article
“Yes, there have been injuries and cold spells, troughs and travails but for me, Smith has been Jordan since 1990, when he was a kid trying to make it big in New York. He’s ridden 32,725 races, won 5,372 (22nd all-time) with total purse earnings of $286,087,224 (fourth). He’s ridden Hall of Famers, won the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, the Belmont Stakes (twice), 25 Breeders’ Cup races. He’s also broken bones and seen his career peak, bottom out and peak again.”

January 28 Cherokee Devotional
Speak to me of serenity, of treasures yet to be found, of peace that flows like a river. Tell me of tranquil places that no hand has marred, no storm has scarred. Give me visions of standing in sunlight or the feeling of spring mist against my cheek as I live and move and breathe. Show me paths that wind through wild lilies and beds of buttercups. Sing me songs like the mingled voices of wrens and meadowlarks, the lowing of gentle cows, the soft mother-call of a mare to her colt. Lead me past a glass-smooth pond where frogs croak of coming-out parties, their graduation from frisky tadpoles to squat green frogs. Find me a place in the sunlight to sit and think and listen to the sweet inner voice that says so quietly, “Peace, be still.”

Oh,what a race Many Clouds has lowered Thistlecrack’s colours!!!Huge congratulations to Oliver Sherwood .Just heard Many Clouds is down at the end of the race same happened in the Grand National.Vets are tending to him.Pray all is well. These horses give their ALL.Mullins woes continue with Faugheen having pulled a muscle and is out of the Irish Champion Hurdle but there was much better news for him with Un de x winning the Clarence horse in fine style.
Devastating news about Many Clouds he has died.It beggars the question do we ask too much of them.He gave his all and his life.Run free now with all the other champions.Everyone is very subdued.RIP
Max
The win by Un de Sceaux was really remarkable because he journeyed twice to England in the last few weeks due to the rescheduling of the race to Cheltenham. A horse has to have nerves of steel to do that.
As to the sudden passing of Many Clouds, this news is very sad. Reminds me of Thomas Chippendale. One minute you are a winner basking in glory. The next, gone. RIP Many Clouds.
sheena.davies(wales)
Yes, a wonderful run from Un de Sceaux. The short guy was very pleased but shocked to hear Faugheen was out of tomorrow’s race.It is doubtful Un de Sceaux would take on Douvan in the Champion Chase.
A lot of tears and sadness at Cheltenham after Many Clouds tragic death.Oliver ran down to be with him.A massive heart attack they think. It was a great effort from him to beat Thistlecrack.Feeling down tonight.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
So sorry about this horrible occurrence. RIP Many Clouds, you gave your all.

Congratulations to Serena Williams for winning out in Melbourne earlier today.A record 23rd major title in the post open era beating sister Venus 6-4 6-4.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Kathy.Such a beautiful devotional today.I reread it after that race.Sombre scenes at Cheltenham after Many clouds dying. The jockey just asked too much of him today. He had collapsed after his GN win but recovered.Today was just one race too many.It makes me realise just how tough Red Rum was.But life goes and the races continue…
Not good news about Faugheen pulling a muscle and only 45 days to go before the Festival.I overslept this morning and the racing started early!I haven’t had a minute.Mother Theresa has arrived in Turkey. She will not care that the British papers are full of them holding hands. He was helping her because of her high heels. The conference went well really the Donald seemed quieter.Theresa is a real professional and very diplomatic.A fabulous win for Serena earlier today.I will have to go on Oliver’s page now to sympathise and his poor lass Lisa. How on earth is she coping? They have raised more than £2000 for Brutus now and are collecting at Morrison’s too.Carmen had her final surgery yesterday and Viktor hasn’t been well all week.Hope you enjoy your holiday.Have a great day CC tonight. Please stay safe all.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXOXOXO

Has anyone seen another post from Donna lately? I didn’t want to miss it, if you have. Am still praying for her and her dog, Amy

Dear Judy Berube, Thank You so much for letting Z fans here know that my family and I are ok after the Ga Storms. It was just horrific. We took a direct hit just right on the outskirts of town.
Dear Z Fans, I thank you all that sent me well wishes. I want say names as I am afraid of missing someone. It is still so sad because I heard just yesterday that 2 more bodies were found. And, there are still some missing plus a little toddler from Albany, Ga. Only 2. Just so sad. I just wish even if they can’t find him alive, just if they could find his body would help. That family is devastated.
I had a trip to Ocala planned and I did get to go middle week. I found out that my beloved Quiet had 2 daughters going to be at the sale. I did get to meet them and fell in love with them. Got another huge surprise. The handler that brought out Hassled Quiet’s daughter. Was speaking in latin and I didn’t understand him the first time what he said. I asked him could he say that again. And, he said “Baby” And I said you mean she has a baby here and he said See. So I got to see her beautiful little filly too. By Data Link, by War Front. And, she I have to say she did remimd me a little more of Grand Pa War Front. But, she was so sweet and beautiful. Her and moma’s demeaner did remind me of PaPa Quiet. One more huge happy face for me, Moma Hassled is in foal to The Big Beast, and everyone she is really big. Can’t wait to see this baby. If records are correct she should deliver this foal hopefully by May.
Neither Hassle or her baby by Data Link sold. They were so many that did not sell. Maybe the prices were just to low. Don’t know. Wonder if everyone is scared of what things are going to be like with the economy etc. Many, Many did not sell.
I am kind of glad they did not sell. Hopefully they will go back to the owners. They looked real healthy. Looked as if they were well taken care of. And a plus maybe mom and filly will get to be together a little longer. They were both with the same consignor.
The Good Lord and Quiet I believe just brought me to meet his daughters.
I had never seen any there before. Whenever you least expect it, good things can happen. I love Quiet American so much. He knows that.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
You’re so welcome. Wonderful that you got to visit with Quiet’s daughters. I know how much it meant to you. Hope the girls have long, happy, healthy lives. Love and Hugs, JB

Superb win by Arrogate and Mikey but what on earth happened to Chromie??I hope all is well with him.He looked a little unsteady.Gosh you guys enter the stalls much more quickly than we do.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Z Fans:
Congrats to Mikey and Arrogate.
I am concerned for Chrome; something’s not right with him. Praying it’s nothing serious. He appears to be walking off OK. Maybe just a bad day. Hope so.
Love you Chromie; you’re THE BEST Champ! Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Chromie looked good both before and after the race, like highly polished copper. Chrome will be remembered by his many admirers as a great and popular horse. He’s earned his retirement well. A proud chestnut. He just ran at the BCC and today against a horse who may be a legend in the making. That speech last week by his owner may also have required the racing gods to answer.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
I wish the racing gods didn’t answer quite this way. Just hope Chrome’s OK. That’s all that matters. He’s a one of a kind, special Chestnut boy.
Arrogate, 1/4 crack and all, stay safe and sound. You have potential to be a great one. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Unfortunatelly, the racing gods always exact a toll for that kind of thing. They at least spared us another speech from the owner. Juddmonte on the other hand is consistently high class. Bobby Frankel as you will recall was their US trainer.
Don’t worry however about Chrome. He looked okay after the race. Apparently his first date is Val’s Day. Taylor Made will care for him.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Waiting to hear what Chromie’s x-ray shows. Hoping just a chip and nothing major. No doubt Taylor Made will care for him very well. Love that boy. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
During the pre race coverage today, I was looking at Chrome in his stall before the race. That blaze is unforgettable. He’s a nice horse. I know that you have loved him since he was on the Derby trail. It’s tough when they retire. I miss the Danimal very much. Also Big D. A lot.
Did you see who appears in Arrogate’s pedigree on his distaff? He’s got a relative in common with your Charlie.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
Goodnight. Guess that 1/4 crack didn’t bother Arrogate at all. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Mama Z, COZ, ZI and DC:
Stay comfy and cozy in your stalls. Happy Dreams. Love You. Hugs, JB
Z Princess, Dubai, Baby Z, will always love you.

So sad for Chrome. He definitely wasn’t himself today. I felt tears in my eyes. I pray that he is ok. I normally root for anyone Mike is riding, but today I was hoping for Chrome to go out on top. No matter what, though, Chrome will always be a super horse to me.
I am glad that Art Sherman had Chrome for most of his career & not a trainer who has a huge stable of horses all over the country. Art & his team took wonderful care of Chrome & truly love him & gave him personal attention. We need more trainers like Art & Zenny’s John who don’t rely on a huge number of horses being in their stable to add wins to their operations. Thank you Art & team for always putting Chrome first.
Chromie, may you have the wonderful retirement you deserve after doing so much for racing. We will be looking forward to seeing your babies.
Donna Z
Congratulations to Mike & Arrogate. I am a Chrome fan, but since he did not run his race today, I am thrilled that you won. I wish you both continued success & pray you stay safe.
Mike, you will always be my #1 jockey. You are not only a great rider, but are also a wonderful person. I hope to see you at Saratoga this coming summer.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Judy.A very sombre day for us at Cheltenham. The Pegasus was a bit of an anti climax.Great win by Arrogate but I hope Chromie is alright Julie was up in Cheltenham and sent me some photos.Lovely one with Jamie next to Best Mate’s statue.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

Dear Sheena:
Sadly, I read that Many Clouds collapsed from a heart attack after beating Thistlecrack in the Cotswold Chase. Rest In Peace brave, beautiful Warrior. He was ten years old and still giving his all.
I hope Chromie is OK too. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you for asking about Amy & me. We need to give to give the antibiotic Amy is on a few more days to see how it is doing. She is on it for 21 days & Dr. Mike said it would probably be a week or so to know if it is working.
Amy & I had a bad day with a different problem yesterday. I woke up to hear Amy having problems breathing. She was wheezing very loudly. I was frantic & rushed her to the vets’ before they even opened. When Dr. Mike arrived, he examined her, but could find nothing stuck in her throat & her lungs sounded fine. The very loud breathing had stopped by then, so we went home.
After we had been home awhile, Amy’s breathing started getting very loud again, & I thought the problem was in her nose & called the doc. We hadn’t suspected the problem being in Amy’s nose when we were at the clinic because Amy had been panting & not breathing through her nose while we were there.
I held the phone up to Amy so Dr. Mike could hear her breathing & he agreed with my suspicion that something might be stuck in her sinus passages. By then it was too late in the day to knock Amy out to examine & flush her sinus passages, so Dr. Mike told me to give her some Claritin. The Claritin has helped. Amy still wheezes at times, but Dr. Mike assured me that she will be ok until I can set up an appointment on Monday to flush her sinuses. If anything worse were to happen, we do have a local animal emergency clinic fairly close by that I can take Amy to.
Cappy was so cute checking Amy over when we got home. They truly have a wonderful bond.
I trust Dr. Mike because Amy is one of his favorite patients. He would not even charge us for the unscheduled emergency appointment & exam yesterday morning because I have been out of work. The practice has four vets & Dr. Mike is usually the one who answers any message or question from me. Dr. Holly is like him as well.
I will keep everyone updated after the procedure is done as to how Amy is. Thank you everyone for your thoughts & prayers.
I am scheduled to go back to work this coming Wednesday. I see my doctor on Monday & I think that my medical leave is going to be extended.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Donna Z.,
Good to hear from you. How scary that breathing/wheezing episode with Amy must have been. It is comforting to have veterinarians that are so caring and accessible. Glad the Claritin seems to help Amy.
Hope you are doing better, too. Will continue to keep you and Amy in thoughts and prayers for healing. Keep us posted, please.
Hugs and Love
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Donna:
Hope you and Amy feel better soon. Good idea to take more time. Will keep both of you in my prayers. Hope she does well on Monday and the procedure does the trick. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Hope Chrome is okay. That sure was not him. Glad Victor did not try to push him once he saw it wasn’t his day. Hopefully the Old Warrior, Prayer For Relief, came out of the race healthy. At least he was not last! Hope they decide to retire him now.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Ditto. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Shirlee,
Glad Prayer For Relief wasn’t last and also hope he finished healthy. You are quite right that Chrome was not himself today — some days are like that, unfortunately. However, neither Chrome nor his trainers have anything to be ashamed of — they are quite brilliant!
Bravo, CC, the Shermans, and TaylorMade and many thanks, too.
Hugs and Love
Donna Z
Dear Peggy,
Even though I didn’t write, I kept you in my prayers. I am glad that you are ok & am still praying for the others who lost so much from the storms.
I thought it would be interested to know that my mailing address is Albany, NY, although I live in the suburb of Colonie. My job is located in the city, though.
