    January 21 Cherokee Devotional

    In the darkest day in winter color is everywhere. They are colors we do not expect to see, so we do not see them. They float on early morning clouds that lie aloft in the southern sky and hover in the crevices of hills at midday. In the evening, the western horizon is purple-all shades of purple, which the Cherokee calls gi ge s di. The last rays of sunlight color the scudding clouds with purple, rose, and lilac.The Indian loves color and is tuned in to its joy. If we are caught in moods that are drab, our eyes have little chance of seeing color. A drab view can be changed. Even now a sa go ni ge (jay) and a brilliant gi ga ge (cardinal) can stir us with their blues and reds if we have the heart to see them.

      Dear Kathy,

      Another lovely devotional. We have had dull, gray, drizzly days so this was the perfect entry to brighten spirits. Likely to have heavier rain tomorrow — will watch the colorful birds at the feeders more to offset the gloom.

    The New One shows his class by winning the Champion Hurdle trial at Haydock.A very popular winner and his lad Wayne adores him.Jezki is back with an easy win after a 632 day absence.Hopefully we get to see Faugheen next week Annie may go straight to Cheltenham.

    Bristol de Mai slaughters a smart handicap field in the Peter Marsh memorial at Haydock to give Nigel TD(looking smart in his duffle coat)a double on the day.He may go for the Gold Cup and has been cut to 16-1.I wonder what Moosie would have to say?

    January 22 Cherokee Devotional

    Pushmataha, Chief of the Choctaws, understood our weaknesses as well as our strengths. He knew how willing we are to give in to abuse for fear of having no peace at all. Peace at any price is very familiar to the American Indian. And we know how a little success can do away with common sense-how it can remove the stops that keep us on the true path. A stable attitude can offset the extremes where we sometimes find ourselves. Good peace-to hi dv-is an inside job, a place where we cultivate the development of our own spirits before we look to our surroundings for strength and sustenance. The heart and soul that loves peace and wants others to be peaceful will never miss the mark of excellence.

    Never be elevated above measure by success…nor delighted with the sweets of peace to suffer insults.

    Congratulations to California Chrome for getting HOY last night.Thoroughly deserved.Let’s hope he goes out on a high next week in the Pegasus.
    RP is now down to the top10 in it’s Queen of the turf series with Black Caviar coming in at no 10.I have no idea who is going to get the no 1 spot.
