Thank you Judy B for all of the great info and news. So far this year, fillies rule. Will be exciting watch them grow up. Hope the farms keep posting the pictures. Four months or less until the new Z baby gets here. Praying for a healthy Mama Z and baby.
Omaha drew post #5. Looks like a good one for him. Really sad for him and Mr. Mandella that this is the last time we will see him on the track. So glad Mr. Mandella had the guts to pull a horse so close to the Derby. But just goes to show how a good ethical trainer puts the horse first. I do think sometimes the owners want to run no matter what and pressure the trainers.
Justify’s little girl is very pretty. And those fillies just keep coming.
Really admire Mr. Mandella; he is a true horseman. Godspeed to OB and all horses everywhere; safe and sound. So many gorgeous fillies this year. Can’t wait to see our sweet Z’s Candy Ride. Love and Hugs, JB
Wow, just read the court papers in this case, wow.
Poor Bodemeister. Seems he should not have been sold and sent overseas.
Praying for all of those innocent horses.
Thanks for these links. The lawsuit against the Zayat Stables is quite shocking, and I join you in hoping American Pharoah and the other horses (such as Paynter, e.g.) remain safe.
Interesting article about Enable, Crystal Ocean and Waldgeist. Nice to see Vino Rosso in the fifth slot, too.
Congratulations to Funtastic and Tenshi on the arrival of this fine-looking filly! She is a real cutie. All the best to her for a long happy life with lots of love.

Our little girl, Zellda, worked again yesterday at Santa Anita.
I too was shocked at the lawsuit against the Zayat Stables. Thank goodness American Pharoah is safe. The majority of his breeding rights are owned by Darley (I think) and his true value is as a sire.
Hope Vino Rosso wins the Eclipse for older dirt horse. You all know how I love the Curlins.
Godspeed to our beautiful ZELLDA as she works toward her debut.
Our OB has lousy luck. Most important thing to know he is well loved and hopefully will heal soon and have a happy retirement. Hope Spun to Run is well soon too.
Rooting for Vino too for Best Older Horse and Max for Best Three Year Old. Love and Hugs, JB
Accelerate’s first foal is a colt. From the Paulick Report: “The first foal by the five-time Grade 1-winning champion Accelerate has hit the ground. The colt was born Jan. 21 in Lexington, Ky. This is the first foal out of the Congrats mare, Sweet Congrats”.
Joining everyone in concern for Zayat Stables and the horses.
Great idea Kathy – The Year of the Fillies!
Congrats to Enable, Crystal Ocean, Waldgeist, and Vino Rosso.
I’m sad to hear about Zayat Stables problems. This does not surprise me, though because I read something quite awhile back that lead me to believe that Mr. Zayat is addicted to gambling. Apparently, his gambling debts caught up to him. This is so sad because he is really passionate about horse racing and is very good to racing and its fans.
I hope that everything turns out ok for his horses and that Mr. Zayat gets help for his gambling problem.
Oh my goodness! I just saw BH articles that announce not only has Spun to Run been scratched in the Pegasus, but now Omaha Beach has been scratched, too! Wow!
It’s too bad, but as the connections of both horses stated, it is best to have these horses safe. Spun to Run has a skin rash (maybe allergy to wood shavings), and OB has some swelling in hind fetlock. Get well guys!
Here’s articles on Omaha Beach and Spun to Run with explanations of the reason for their being starched from the Pegasus. Sending healing prayers to both of them. Love and Hugs, JB
Omaha:
Omaha Beach has what appears to be the beginning of a fracture in his right hind leg and will be scratched from the $3 million Pegasus World Cup on Saturday at Gulfstream Park, trainer Richard Mandella said Thursday afternoon.
“He went out for a gallop this morning, cooled out great, but we noticed something later,” Mandella said. “We X-rayed his right-hind ankle. It’s questionable what’s there, but it looks like it might be the beginning of a cannon-bone fracture. We can’t take a chance.”
Mandella said the X-rays were sent to noted veterinarian Dr. Larry Bramlage, who evaluated the images.
The Pegasus was scheduled to be the final start for Omaha Beach before going to stud next month at Spendthrift Farm. His star-crossed career included having to be scratched from the Kentucky Derby owing to an entrapped epiglottis days before the race. He raced 10 times, and won three Grade 1 races.
Spun:
Spun to Run has developed skin disease on much of his body and will scratch from the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Dirt on Saturday at Gulfstream Park, trainer Juan Carlos Guerrero said Thursday morning.
“I’m not happy with the skin disease,” Guerrero said at Gulfstream Park. “His forearms are hot. It’s on his left hind leg. It’s for the best. I don’t even want to try to run.
“It happened within the last two weeks. He broke out in hives. It was on his stomach, back, all over his legs. He means so much to me I’m almost crying.”
I just read that Omaha Beach hes been scratched from the Pegasus Cup due to a small swelling in his right hind fetlock. He has had such bad luck in his short racing career. I believe that he could been horse of the year this year had he not missed so many races.
Fortunately for him, though that Mr. Mandella & Mr. Porter really care about him and do not race him when he has even a small problem. They set a shining example of what all trainers & owners should do with their horses.
I hope that Omaha Beach’s daughters & sons have better luck than he has had. We never got to see how good Omaha Beach really is. Hopefully he will pass his good characteristics on to his offspring and they will show how good their sire would have been had he not had such bad luck.
Dear Kathy, Ann, Carolina, Marshall, Barbara B., Shirlee and Z Fans:
Yes, the Zayat organization fall is both shocking and sad. Praying for Bodie, AP and safety all the horses.
Omaha Beach truly is a hard luck boy. I truly believe he never got the chance to show us how talented he really is. Wish him a happy, healthy retirement. Love and Hugs, JB
Thanks for all the updates! Was looking forward to seeing Spun to Run and Omaha Beach at the Pegasus. Well wishes for good health to both of those great horses.
Nineteen fillies to 5 colts – go girls! Love them all.
Such a shame about Spun to Run and Omaha Beach. You have to admire their connections for thinking of them first. Absolutely…good health to both of them and many colts and fillies to carry on in their names.
The “Horse Racing Integrity Act 2019-2020” (H.R.1754) is coming before the House of Representative next week.
It would establish The Horseracing Anti-Doping and Medication Control Authority.

Thanks for the post. Big Congratulations to all Eclipse winners and connections!
Very nice line-up. I am happy for Maxi, Vino and Bricks — and everyone of these wonderful entries! Well done.
Judy,
So happy that Max and Vino got the recognition they deserve. All the winners are to be congratulated and celebrated. Seems to be good choices.
I am sad about Omaha and Spun having to scratch but I think this shows the health of the horses are being put first. I know this is a terrible blow to their teams. Just wish the $5,000 claimers got the same scrutiny.
Think Tax and Mucho Gusto have much better chances now.
judy berube
Dear Shirlee:
Totally agree with everything you said. Especially wishing that Claimers get the same scrutiny as Stakes horses.
Yes, Mucho Gusto and Tax should be in the mix. Godspeed to all the horses and riders; safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB
So much going on the horse world this week! The fillies keep coming – maybe climate change is affecting the sires???? Very sad about Omaha Beach and Spun to run having to miss the Pegasus but also relieved that their connections did the right thing. Congrats to all of the Eclipse Award winners!! A few surprises but mostly what was being predicted. Still can’t believe that I didn’t go with Vino R in the BC Classic (duh!). Anyhow, Hovey has blotted his copy book yet again and fears that his Mum has murder on her mind.

Shirlee and Z fans,
Shirlee, one of your favorite boys has a baby running. Race 4, Gulfstream. Unconquered Lea.
Godspeed, safe and sound.
Good luck to all of them.
Pegasus Day. Godspeed and prayers for safe trips for all. Will be in front of the TV all day starting with International races and finishing up in Florida. Be safe and enjoy the races everyone!
I know you love Lea, but it was our Ann that posted his boy was in the 4th MSW at Gulfstream today. He finished 6th I think of 12. Name is Unconquered Lea.
Your boy’s Mucho Gusto won like the champ he is. Broadcaster said this was prep for Dubai Cup. Godspeed gorgeous boy. Made Papa proud. Love and Hugs, JB
Thanks for posting the replay. Mucho Gusto came through! I know Shirlee is smiling ear-to-ear. Well done, champ! Congrats to MG! More Congrats to Mr. Freeze for second and to War Story for third (advancing from last!).
I missed the events today. I drove to Virginia to collect a little terrier mix that I have adopted from a rescue/shelter. He is a real cutie and is the smallest dog I have had — ~15 lbs presently. He can stand to add a couple of pounds; we will work on that. Bailey met him last week, and it was a successful meeting. His shelter name was Candy Cane, but that must be changed. Right now we are trying out names — Fenn seems to fit (Welsh spelling of Finn). I have my work cut out for me since he is ~3 years old and just got neutered. He is in the habit of marking territory so will definitely be confined a lot when inside. He is settling in, and Bailey is happy to have another little brother. I have called him Smudge a couple of times already, but I think Smudge is wagging his tail, too. :-)
Yes, MG was brilliant today. Nice ride by Irad too. War story made up so much ground to finish 3rd and Mr. Freeze ran a nice 2nd. Our Shirlee must be doing a happy dance.
How wonderful you have a new boy and Bailey, a brother. All the best of luck with him. I think Fenn is a great name. Sheena would approve too. Love Ya. Hugs, JB
Marshall,
Bless you for adopting and rescuing this boy. So many need good homes and I know you will love and care for him. Soon he and Bailey will be running through the house and making the throw rug go flying. I think Fenn is a great name.
Yes, I am so thrilled with Mucho G’s win. I did not know he had been sold to someone in the Saudi royal family. I hope he and Max do well and are safe in the Middle East. My boy Muchie is really throwing some good ones. The way he ran, I don’t know if Omaha and Spun could have beaten him.
Good night and sleep tight all of my great Blog friends.
Judy Berube
Dear Shirlee:
So happy for MG and Papa. Peggy told me yesterday that MG is now owned by a Saudi Prince. Still trained by Bob B so hopefully after Dubai Cup, if he goes, he will be in Bob B’s barn in CA. His race before yesterday was Sept 2019; Mr Lund listed as owner, so apparently sold some tome after that race. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Shirlee and Judy,
I have had trouble coming up with a name this time — seems I can think of great names when I don’t need one. I also tried out Fergus, but Fenn has won out (I think). I have spent hours on the computer looking at dog names; however, I believe this fits best. Yes, I think Sheena approves, too.
