Oh my goodness, I goofed calling the new “foal” a filly! ESP maybe? Ha! Ha! So sorry, I should proof my text better before posting. But no matter, colt or filly, we are all going to love it and it’s going to have a good pedigree on both sides with some super star relatives. Can’t wait until he or she arrives.
Would love to see some recent pictures of Z’s one year old filly and Ziconic.
On this day in 1978 the most successful mare in NH history was born. Her name was Dawn Run.Not known for ladylike manners Willie Mullins’ mother describes her as the most ferocious horse in their yard.Indeed she loved to bite the horses that raced against her.She was trained by Willie’s father Paddy and ridden mostly by his son Tony although controversially jocked off in favour of Jonjo O’Neill for the Gold cup.In fact her owner Charmian Hill rode in 3 of her races. She remains the only horse to win the Champion Hurdle.Irish Champion Hurdle,French Champion Hurdle and Aintree Hurdle in the same season and of course she is the only horse to have won a Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup at Cheltenham.A statue of her with Jonjo on board stands opposite Arkle.Anyone who has watched her Gold cup win cannot help but be swept away with the sheer emotion of it all. Most horses are put away after a gold cup but Dawn raced at Aintree and promptly fell. She went on to Punchestown and won but Charmian wanted more and sent her over to Auteuil for the French champion hurdle.Paddy did not want to race her but no one questioned Charmian .Dawn Run died from a broken neck on June 27th 1986.Her remains were never even returned to the land of her birth.I have always felt some people do not deserve to own champions.Dawn had surely done enough that season and needed rest but it is all part of history now and those heady days when a magnificent mare ruled the world of NH will remain in our hearts for always.I am sure you are kicking up a storm in Heaven.Love you alwaysX
I love the feisty horses. She sounds like a female Hastings. She certainly deserved a very good retirement. This must have broken many admirers’ hearts. RIP champion.
It certainly did break our hearts. She was an amazing mare.
Max
Surprised that you did not mention that Mullins won the trainer’s title in Ireland with a run from behind that is pure Zenyatta. Trailing all season, he saved his best for the last minute and totally overwhelmed his rival. And he did it without any riding assistance from the short guy.
Congratulations to Supasundae for winning the hurdle at Punchestown today.Samcro and Melon had crashing falls but were fine.Wishing the short guy’s sister Katie Walsh a happy retirement She was given a rousing send off by her fellow jockeys.
Sheena,
Thanks for the video. He looks just amazing and is doing so well. Hope he stays with the De Sousas forever. Poor boy just need a job that occupied his mind and someone to understand him.
Dear Judy.So far 3J is on the nest tonight. She did’nt return until 4.31am this morning(friday)Surprised there was no nod to Scotland or Wales in the Royal name but then the Duke of Windsor was David so…Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Charles I and II were both from the House of Stuart. Scotland. Charles I was executed by Parliament and so began the republican period in British history.
I thought I would wait until the Finale before adding my congratulations for Mullins. He had such a super week at Punchestown.Ironic that the short guy should say that horses were replaceable there were plenty around to take his place this season!
Charles is most probably recognised as an English name these days although it originates from France and Germany.Yes .I do recall the Stuart family and when the Germans took over in 1714.I would have liked a nod to the Welsh given the Cambridges will become Prince and Princess of Wales one day.
Congratulations to Richard Johnson champion jockey this season again.
Max
Many replacements indeed at the Festival. That’s amazing about Richard Johnson. I thought that Davey Russell would be the Irish champion jockey this year. He was the leader going into Punchestown.
WOW fantastic news from the Dyfi Gwynant Glesni’s first born son IS BACK.He is a 4yr old now and 3J has laid a 3rd egg!!!As you can imagine we are all a little over eggscited http://www.facebook.com/dyfiospreyproject/

Altior went on to win the race.I feel this horse wants further. The ground was against him today he is still unbeaten over fences.Nina Carberry has announced her retirement and gone out on a win with Josies Orders.Sad we have lost 2 of our best females this week.
Congratulations to Nicky Henderson for winning the Trainer’s Title and across the Irish sea well done to the master Willie Mullins.A typical season of glory and sadness. On days like these I wonder why I love this sport so much but I do.Now for the Flat…..
This is becoming more and more common and there is a rational.
By coming in right on top of the race, the horse doesn’t have time to become affected by the significant change to his/her routine. In/race/out before the jet lag becomes an issue.
Bring them in a couple of weeks early and they regress while they experience jet lag and have to work through it.
So either send them 6 – 8 weeks in advance, which is incredibly costly, or come in on as tight a turn around schedule as quarantine will allow and avoid the issue entirely.
Dear Sheena, I dearly love this horse. A million good luck wishes sent his way. I just fell in love with him last year at the Breeders Cup. He’s been a favorite since. I felt so fortunate to get to see his sire Scat Daddy before he passed. So this is too, sentimental for me. He just might be my favorite for the Derby. I have heard good and negative comments about him. I so hope he proves the negative people wrong. I just believe with his pedigree on both sides he could just about run on anything.
Travel Safely Mendelssohn. God Speed.

I am looking for that long shot too. I settled on Lookin At Lee last year and did well. Those darn Curlins are pulling at my heart strings. Perhaps Solomini will have some long odds. Instilled Regard if he is in.

Dear Shirlee:
Solomini’s morning line odds are 30 to 1 (doubt he’ll go off that high) and Good Magic and Vino Rosso morning line odds are 12 to 1. They’ll probably go down. I’m looking at Combatant too. His ML odds are 50 to 1. So many to choose from. Good luck.

I have been thinking about Karen’s memorial service today. Santa Anita Clocker’s

My nephew had a horse in the 2nd race, Wild Lando . He bred him and owns him. He came in first. If this was the race that was dedicated to Karen, it was meant to be.
Zenyatta we await your baby with excitement and hope you are comfortable and resting this evening. My prayers for a safe delivery .

Am I the only one wondering when Zenyatta is going to foal? There are all kind of discussions going on here but no talk of Zenyatta! I thought this was her website. Am I wrong? Where is all the excitement of a new foal coming??? How about names?
This site has turned into a regular chat room!!! I come here to visit about Zenyatta and her siblings. Cosmic one was in a jumping event this past Friday. Where is all the conversation about him or Ziconic???
Maybe I’m just in the wrong place. If so sorry about the criticism.
The Forum side is a great place. Very organized by subject matter and staying on point.
Yes, full of wonderful and delightful conversation here on the blog side, as we pace, pace, pace. We are even treated to an occasional joke or update from two handsome Chestnut Champions. It’s GREAT!!!!! Talk about chatter- bugs, Biscuits and Gun can really carry on.

Oops — my apologies to you, Delrene.
Darn that autocorrect! It changed your name to Darlene, and I didn’t notice it before clicking on Submit. I noticed it this time though! :-)
Hugs and Love dear Delrene.

Donna Z,
Thanks for the reminder of the beautiful Songbird’s birthday. Miss her at the races but happy that she retired safe and healthy. That baby of hers should be something else! Happy Birthday to one of my very favorite girls! Wonder if “her” Mike will drop by for a visit?

Hi everyone
Am I the only one wondering when Zenyatta is going to foal? There are all kind of discussions going on here but no talk of Zenyatta! I thought this was her website. Am I wrong? Where is all the excitement of a new foal coming??? How about names?
This site has turned into a regular chat room!!! I come here to visit about Zenyatta and her siblings. Cosmic one was in a jumping event this past Friday. Where is all the conversation about him or Ziconic???
Maybe I’m just in the wrong place. If so sorry about the criticism.

If you care to look I post a lot about Coz’s new life.Obviously if there is no news about Zenyatta we talk about other horses and life in general.

Sheena,
Well said. There is only so much news about Zenyatta, Coz and The Red Prince.

Love to all.

Dear Ann and Z Fans:
So agree. Love the conversations, the humor and all of you. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
I would like to point out that the main ongoing topic of conversation between the two chestnuts is how to meet Zenyatta.

Dear Max:
