    ARCADIA >> Turns out all it took to steer the inconsistent Gormley back on the right track was a change in strategy, courtesy of trainer John Shirreffs.
    Gormley had been on or near the lead in his previous three victories, but jockey Victor Espinoza kept him back farther off the pace than normal Saturday, resulting in a half-length victory over Battle of Midway in the 80th running of the Santa Anita Derby.
    The on-track crowd of 36,155 saw Gormley, the 6-1 third betting choice, secure a berth in the Kentucky Derby on May 6 with the 100 points that went to the winner, meaning he’ll try to give Shirreffs and owner Jerry Moss their second victory in the Run for the Roses after their 50-1 shocker in 2005 with Giacomo.

    Judy-that was Mel Brooks, good eye. His picture was in the local papers this AM. I concur with both Shirlee and your assessment on the situation going on behind the scenes. Very sad all the way around. I believe this has been going on for some time now. Linda.

    Great news the Dyfi have raised over £20,000 towards their camera appeal.Sad to hear they got a lot of abuse on social media last about poor Ceri.These are the sort of people who nothing about wildlife.Mother nature shows no mercy.Even the ringers were abused and one of them has given up a job he loved.These people are all volunteers and deserve our support.This is the couple in love.

      Enjoyed the father son photos of both Mos. I know Gormley is the big Derby horse, but if I could have one of them, I would pick Royal Mo. I do confess to a weakness for the big boys.

    If anyone else is following the handsome Far From Over, he is progressing. His work this week was 4 Furlongs after a couple of 3 F works. Not setting the world on fire with his speed-50:20 but think he has been off for 9 months. Hope he is healthy and ready to go for the late summer and fall races.

        • Think that impressive pedigree is why his connections have stuck with him through two long layoffs. It is impossible to get any info on him. I had kept him in my virtual stable and they listed his first work.

    Awesome, thrilling site to see two horses in the Moss colors turning for home in the Santa Anita Derby. Hope Royal Mo survives the “cut” and gets to go to the Derby, too. So very happy for John, and all his staff. The Derby will have some extra excitement this year, that’s for sure!

    Thank you all at Lane’s End for sharing our Queen’s birthday with us. Any news on when she might have her foal? There was some confusion as to her breed date as the news coverage last year had it asMay 2. Apparently, it was later than that.

    Dear Judy:I happened to be late getting online today.I had been watching PC Keith Palmer’s funeral and then I saw the photo of Monty with blood on his leg.Everyone had palpitations!Another video got posted later and all seemed well then his leg had been washed while fishing and it looks okay.Could have been some blood from a fish or Glesni grabbing her dinner.3rd eggs have arrived in Rutland and Lowes this morning.We should have Easter eggs.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweetiesLove and hugs SheenaX

      SAW THE LEG, SHEENA. HOPING IT WAS FISH BLOOD FROM A catch earlier. Thanks to you I hv been following them since 2016. We need a mate for blue-am praying. Too bad Dai Dot not there.Need one of the newer male chicks. She’s so ready!. But for sure Glesni will lay eggs soon. Hooray! Going to Santa Anita today or tomorrow(at least soon) to visit Mario. Been friends since Zenny was on the shed row with my then racers in barn 55 at Hollywood. JS, too. Visited with Eblouissante there as well. Now have 2 babies 3 week old Piru Pi born on 3/14/2017 and yearling Big Red Valentine. Mario’s niece is the night nurse at the stable my brood mare is with the Pi. and where Big Red Valentine is. Got both names approved from jockey club. Of course Big Red is chestnut and big. and has Secretariat in pedigree, Man O’War too. They were both called Big Red. Big Red’s dam and sire are both bays but he’s got a lot of powerful chestnuts in his pedigree. So does the Pi. but she’s a bay like mom and dad. Suaces is the sire and Addison’s Honor is the dam of both my babies.

        I started following Monty in 2011 having met them on our Springwatch His partner was Nora then and they had 4 chicks 2 died in the 2012 storm and Nora never returned the next year.It was fun to see the “ladies”chasing Monty and Nora’s niece Glesni came along.There is certainly a shortage of males in these parts I would love Blue to find a partner.It’s great that you have a foal and a yearling with such amazing pedigrees and I hope you get to see them.You got to know Zenyatta up close and personal a wonderful experience.Good luck with your horses.Hugs

    Bonjour Zenyatta,

    April 10, 2016 (today is April 10, 2017) is the Birthday of your precious young colt who died on April 13, 2016.

    So sad but I did remember him.

    I placed a special dedication to him in my book that I wrote in 2016 called “Grieving and Loving My Extraordinary Dogs.” I also mentioned Princess Z’s death, too.

    When is the baby due? I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new baby.

      Whenever I visit the JS barn at Santa Anita I see Coz and Zi. Mario is always there too with the newer young horses. He also had Zi last year but he’s got Royal Mo this year. They have their hands full in that barn this year!!

    On this day in 1981 one of the most unbelievable stallions Sadlers Wells was born.On the 26th of this month in 2011 he died peacefully in his paddock just 4 days before his mighty grandson Frankel won an unforgettable 2000 Guineas.RIP
