Today is Zenyatta’s 13th birthday, and she celebrated with her pals from Lane’s End Farm. There were cookies, cupcakes, and cards from fans around the world. Happy birthday to Queen Z and our boy Ziconic too!
Hay Z…
Well despite being busy with a bridal shower this morning, I did wish you happy birthday while at my sisters. And to Ziconic and another horse Toby, who helped me get my confidence back to riding horses again. Toby shares this day with you and Ziconic.
Looks like you had a marvelous time with all your best pals from LE’s! So glad they love you as much as we do!
Well I’m on giraffe watch…,so I best get back. But I’ll be waiting anxiously in a couple weeks to hear your own baby news.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZENYATTA and ZICONIC! !!! I hope you had a great day and ate your favorite treats. I had a wonderful time Zenny when I came to visit you 2 years ago. I miss you – I’m due for another visit. I hope to also meet Ziconic and Coz one day. I LOVE YOU and your family and I’m greatful that Team Z shares you with me and all your fans . Looking forward to your new Foal I’m praying for a healthy delivery and a healthy foal. God bless xoxoxo.
What a beauty she is:)
When is baby due? Soon by the look of her
How are her 2 racing sons doing
May Z have a safe delivery and a very healthy baby
Let’s pair her up with American Pharoh for the next baby daddy
Happy Birthday to my two favorite Z’s —- Zenyatta and Ziconic! I hope Queen Z enjoyed all of her birthday treats, I did not know that she liked Mrs. Pastures Horse Cookies.
Thank you to all those at Lane’s End who celebrated her 13th birthday with her and made it a special occasion. Keep her safe and healthy, hoping for news of a beautiful foal in the next few weeks.
What we know in our heads is not always workable until we get it down in our hearts. The heart is the very core of us-the spirit, the vital u li s go li yv. Some call it the subconscious, the file room of our experiences and beliefs-the substance of who we are. Sometimes we file things in this inner-storage that are not to our benefit-fear for the most part. And fear is the subtle destroyer of the human part. But there are other things there as well, some of it information we neither remember nor even know we have recorded. Like old files, it needs to be cleaned out. But how can we clean out what we do not know we have? By self-monitoring, by plumbing the depths in writing, drawing out our own thought the way we prime an old pump to draw up water. It takes honesty spiked with a good sense of humor. Getting to know oneself is worth the effort.
Again…I recall the great vision you sent me. It may be that some little root of the sacred tree still lives.
Black Elk 1912
Does anyone know where you can order the horse cookies she is getting. Would be fun to send some to her, Ziconic and some other of our favorites.
Love the look in her eyes. She seems so content and happy. The visits from her public appear to be a real joy to her. Of course, the goodies are a part of that. Wish I could see her but it is okay just to share parts of her life on this blog.
They have a website and the web address is a simple as can be. They can also be ordered on line via Google and Amazon. The company also sells to tackle and feed stores as well as farm supply stores.
You know Shirleeinindy – I was going to say something about her eyes, her expressions also when I saw your post. I have never in my life seen another race horse that I had any doubt realized what actually was going on around her like Zenny does. I mean you can SEE it in her expressions, even when she is looking at the birthday cards!
Just another reason we all love her so, right?
I know you, just as I am, are hoping and praying for an uneventful delivery, birth and ALL that goes with it. I didn’t think I could sink any lower into sadness after Princess Z but then the colt that didn’t make it…………..
PERISH those thoughts! Zenny’s new colt or filly is going to be healthy, happy and maybe just maybe be the one she will finally give up some of those champion genes to! Medaglia d’Oro sure is no slouch either!
I have officially starting my yearly pacing in the Waiting Room………………….
JudyFromAiken,
Yes, Z Princess broke my heart. On the anniversary of her death, I donate to Our Mims in her memory. I was sadden by the loss of the little foal but not like Z Princess. We had gotten to know and love her over many months. She was so beautiful. I do hope this one is a filly but most of all, just healthy.
Did you ever visit Palace Malice while he was in Aiken? What a big good looking dude he is.
On this day in 1977 a horse created history at Aintree. This horse was bred to be of little consequence.By a sprinting father out of a neurotic mare his racing began.ironically at Aintree,in 1967 just shy of his 2nd birthday. He dead heated in a selling plate. It was a tough introduction for him.He was to suffer much punishment in his early races but somehow the fire in his mother’s belly made his will as strong as steel.By all intents and purposes his racing career should only have lasted a couple of seasons but he alone knew he was destined for greater things. He survived in spite of people.5different trainers nearly 2 dozen jockeys,he survived the year of the cough and one of the worst diseases of the foot.He survived because he possessed immense courage. That horse was Red Rum and 40yrs ago today he won his 3rd Grand National when he was 12yrs old.In 1974 in the space of 3 weeks he ran 8 and a1/2 miles and jumped 57 fences carrying 12st at Aintree and 11st 13lbs at Ayr.This is the reason we adore our chasers.Red’s achievements at Aintree will never be equalled certainly not in my lifetime. He died in his 31st year on October 18th 1995 and was laid to rest at the place he called home the winning post at Aintree. The Grand National takes place this Saturday and I am sure the old boy will be looking down on the horses and wishing them a safe journey.RIP Red you earned your rest and our undying gratitude.X
I have just been watching the video.Just as thrilling today as 40yrs ago but I do wonder where all those years have gone.Seems like yesterday to me.Are you watching the Boat race?
Zenny, wow, look at those sweet treats and cards. How special. Hope you had a great day and Zi too!!

According to the Forum, Gary Stevens is going to work Royal Mo this week to see if he is in condition to run on the weekend. Glad to see Gary with this guy as he, like Mike, seems to have the patience to ride the larger horses. Think Royal MO is around 17 hands.
