Today is Zenyatta’s 13th birthday, and she celebrated with her pals from Lane’s End Farm. There were cookies, cupcakes, and cards from fans around the world. Happy birthday to Queen Z and our boy Ziconic too!
My Gunnevera leaves Hallandale Beach at 8am for Louisville. He stops in Georgia. Sure wish I knew where. LOL Probably just stopping for a little rest.
Travel Safely my beautiful boy. Watch the legs. Be a good boy
Love Ya So Much.
Sue,
Safe travel for your boy Gunnevera. Guess from Florida to Louisville is a trip made by van. Safe trip to him in the Derby. Not to offend you, but safe trip to him behind a certain colt.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Shirlee, Hey. He is being vanned to Louisville. The 6 hour stop in Ga I am assuming just to break the trip up. I have read that the big vans such as Sallee like the night traveling as to go thru the big towns with the horses at night. I believe Gunnevera’s van will probably leave Ga this evening and arrive at Louisville in the morning. Just my thinking.
Hope your boy does well too in the Derby. Godspeed to all.
Happy belated Birthday, Kathy. Sorry I am late posting this. I hope you had a great one. I can still say, “Have a Great Year!” without being late.
I have enjoyed your devotionals as you posted them. I was able to find all three of the books of them, so I can read them now myself. Thank you for sharing them along with the names & author of the books.
Good morning Z-sters. Donna makes a good point above. If anyone is interested in getting the books for yourself, they are A Cherokee Feast of Days Daily Meditations, A Cherokee Feast of Days Volume Two and A Cherokee Feast of Days Volume III Many Moons. The author is Joyce Sequichie Hifler. Also, if you just want me to e-mail them to you privately, contact me at ksheere@hotmail.com. Happy Saturday, everyone!
A thrilling finish to the Scottish Grand National with Vincente winning for the 2nd year in a row for Paul Nicholls. He was bought by Trevor Hemmings after the tragic death of Many Clouds.Nico de Boinville had a nasty fall and the screens were up.As at Aintree the first 4 horses home were dismounted to be cooled down.Red Rum would have been annoyed not to visit the winner’s enclosure. No decision made about Annie yet she is in the early days of her pregnancy. What is poor Moosie thinking? The love of his life with another guy!!Vincente has made it to the winner’s enclosure.
As soon as the music of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by that Hawaiian singer began, I was tearing up. I don’t know why I’d never seen the Z Princess video “Remembering Z Princess” before (https://staging.zenyatta.com/z-princess-memorial#), but on the filly’s April 20 Birthday, Abigail posted a link to it on FB. I am so glad I saw this, it guts me, it is so sad, as well as a wonderful look at her life, and how Zenny “was” with her, catching and keeping up with her daughter’s sprints in the pasture, and so many affectionate nuzzles. Thanks.
Vicki
Thanks for posting about the video. I had not seen it in some time. Of course, I was in tears in the first two minutes. I don’t think any of us will ever forget this little Easter Lilly. It was sad about the little colt, but we had not watched him and grown to love him for 6 months as we had The Princess. It is so sad to think of what could have been had she lived. But that was not to be. She will remain forever in our hearts. A dancing young filly who celebrated every day.
You’re welcome, Shirlee, I too can’t help thinking about what might have been — that is so much of the sadness, along with her sweet disposition, and so full of life.
RIP Reach the World who suffered a fatal injury during a work out at SA today.By Tapit out of a Galileo mare he was trained Bob Baffert and had been ridden by Mike.
Oh my, how awful! This is just too sad — to lose another young horse, and in a workout.
Sincere condolences to all connections.
RIP Reach the World. Tragically gone way too soon, beautiful boy. Run happy with the angels now.

McGraw Wins Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award for “Here Comes Exterminator”
by Press Release | 04.20.2017 | Paulick Report
Eliza McGraw has won the 11th annual Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award for her masterful equine biography “Here Comes Exterminator! The Longshot Horse, the Great War, and the Making of an American Hero.”
McGraw, who has written for the New York Times and Washington Post, and who previously authored two acclaimed academic books, received a $10,000 winner’s check and Tipperary crystal trophy from Shane Ryan during an April 20 reception at Castleton Lyons farm near Lexington, Ky. Nearly a hundred aficionados of horse racing and good literature were on hand for the celebratory event, first hosted in 2006 by the late Dr. Tony Ryan. https://www.paulickreport.com/news/people/mcgraw-wins-dr-tony-ryan-book-award-comes-exterminator/

I’m a bit late, but I saw that Cozmic One has again worked out. He went 49.60 for 4 furlongs. Here’s hoping the fact he’s still working out means we might actually see him race this year. Fingers crossed. -Was sad to read of Arpege D’Alene’s passing. Even if you’re not familiar with a horse its hard to sed or hear that they’ve left us. We only about 2-4 weeks and Z17 may be may be making hisher debut. Fingers crossed. May Zsters and all animals everywhere have a sparkling day.
Hope Ann is with Z when she foals and that we hear from her on the Blog as we have in the past. She’s has so bonded with Z and all of the babies; I think Z will be waiting her. Love and Hugs, JB
How incredible — this poor little guy was definitely in need of kindness. What was the former owner thinking? So happy that this sweet creature can now enjoy a good life and can walk more normally, not to mention be free to graze and be fed nutritious food. He looks gorgeous now! May he live a long healthy and happy life with lots of love.

Fractured ankle will prevent Albarado from riding J Boys Echo in Kentucky Derby
By Marty McGee Daily Racing Form 04/23/2017
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Robby Albarado fractured his left ankle when thrown from his mount several strides out of the starting gate during the eighth race Sunday at Keeneland and will be forced to miss his upcoming ride in the Kentucky Derby with J Boys Echo.
Albarado was injured when his mount, Chiltern Street, broke awkwardly from the inside post in the 5 1/2-furlong turf allowance. Albarado fell off to the right side of his mount, landing feet first. No other horses or jockeys were involved. http://www.drf.com/news/fractured-ankle-will-prevent-albarado-riding-j-boys-echo-kentucky-derby
Tough luck for RA and J Boys Echo — very untimely injury. I’m sure he is disappointed to be out of the Derby, but fortunately he will recover from this and go on to ride again. Smooth healing to him, and best wishes to J Boys Echo and team.
