I guess I just never noticed it before at Santa Anita for turf races that were not on the “down the hill” course (and that really freaks me out when they have to cross over the main track and then continue on the turf). It just seems like your footing would all of a sudden be different whether or not that had anything to do with Ziconic’s problems out of the gate.

You mentioned awhile back that you would like to have a photo of Barnaby in his new boots. As I mstill don’t know how to get photos onto the computer, and thus, to the blog, I will send you some by snail mail. I will try to take some this weekend and take them to the photo shop here and get some prints made to send to you. I have to go in there and get most of the phtos that are on my mini iPad printed off and store the rest in the “cloud”, I guess. My iPad is full and can’t take any ore until I clear it out.
Barnaby and Traveller are almost shedded out and have trimmed the little “feathers” he gets around his feet in the winter so his TB side is coming out !! He is looking very sleek and handsome. Traveller is just about fully back to her old self. What a lovely miracle !
The snow is all gone, down at the barn–I have daffodils and tulips about 5 inches out of the ground on the south side of my condo, but on the north side, there is still snow on the ground !! We had a few flakes flying around this AM, but it didn’t stick–thank goodness!!
Loved Zi’s race last Sunday–he ran SO well to place third, after the start he had. He was coing down the stretch like a freight train!! He would have won by many lengths had he had a better start!! I still hope to see Gary back in his irons one day !!

I went to the YouTube site to watch and to here Jerry Bailey describe how he fell in love with the Great Cigar. Yes, tears came. Then I went to see the 1995 Breeder’s Cup Classic Cigar won! Thank you so much, The truly Greats in Horseracing capture our hearts. Cigar did mine then, Zenyatta did and holds it still.

Spirited debate over whip use at panel discussion

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Representatives of riders and of racing commissions clashed over regulations designed to restrict the use of the whip during a panel on Wednesday at the Association of Racing Commissioners International meeting, illustrating the stark divide in the industry over an issue that has drawn increasing attention from animal-welfare advocates.
The issue has inflamed passions on both sides ever since the California Horse Racing Board passed whip restrictions several years ago limiting the number of times a rider could use a whip without giving a horse an opportunity to respond. For the most part, riders across the country have criticized the rules and objected to any suggestion that the restrictions should spread to other jurisdictions.
