Happy Thursday!
We were at Lane’s End last week catching up with Zenyatta, her little princess, and Ziconic. Everyone is looking fabulous and healthy.
We’ll be back after the holiday with a recap of our trip and some special interviews for you.
Wishing everyone safe travels and a great 4th of July!

Hi Zenny, Ziconic, Princess Z and all Zsters:
Zenny your kids are beautiful! !
My Ziconic has really grown. He looks magnificent! !! I can’t tell from the picture but I am wondering if Princess Z still has her wavey, curly mane. How adorable is that.
I am hoping to see Coz on the track soon. If that happens, the second half of this year will really be awesome.
Thank you Team Z for the beautiful photos.
Love and hugs.

Hi Zen family.
I see that the news of Lammtarra’s passing has been posted. He was a HUGE love of mine: I have pictures, prints and books about him/featuring him. So I had to write something for THE VAULT to mark his passing:

Dear Abigail,
Thanks so much for the tribute to Lammtarra. What a gorgeous chestnut and so talented. I am very glad that he could live out his days at Darley where he was loved and cared for.
RIP Lammtarra, handsome boy

Sorry, I meant to write Dalham Park Stud instead of Darley, but thankful that Darley bought him back from Arrow Stud to keep him safe.

Sheena. This is the result when all but two of the horses in a race are on the loose. Nobody apparently got hurt. Moose, don’t look at this.

Horror show. The Guardian Angels were doing overtime for those horses and riders!
Celeste_in_TX
Oh my Goodness!! I’ve never seen anything like that!! Seems like the race course and jumps were really arranged weirdly and none of the jockeys knew which way to go when they actually stayed on their mounts a while. Wow! Scary!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Just watched the video you posted. What the heck kind of course was that. I can’t believe no one was hurt, especially that near miss when two horses and riders ran right across in front of the two horses headed for a jump. Crazy. Even the announcer didn’t seem to know what was happening. It’s ironic the winner was disqualified. Scary stuff. Love and Hugs, JB
Abigail_1849
Thanks so much, Sheena. I just really loved him. I have “checked up” on him since he returned to the UK pretty regularly. In a perfect world, I would have wanted him to live to be a ripe old age!
Max
It all unravelled when that one horse took a 180 turn. Then they all went Moose and freelanced over the entire course. I like the comment: ce n’est pas possible? Well, it was possible. Makes the Moose look brilliant. If this is going on, the Moose should be free!

Dear Max.I saw the video this afternoon and couldn’t stop laughing! Thanks for posting it.Thank goodness all horses were safe but it was hysterical to watch,I’m sure Moosie must have sent instructions from Yorkshire! The Grey Gatsby is running in France on sunday am sure he will do well.
I googled the Nova Scotia weather and they hope to get the power back by Friday.I’m not sure where Nissy lives but I follow the Tuxedo Party (more cats) in Halifax and they are fine. There have been a lot of complaints about the call centre at the power company.Hope Nissy and his peeps are coping.Free the Moose so he could join his friends in France!!!PU Dan Niss4PM Thinking of all sick horses everywhere.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. I saw that and thought of you and the Moosester. I loved it, especially those horses without riders who kept on racing. The commentator was rendered speechless. Can you imagine if Sea The Moon was leading in that race? He might decide to go in any direction?
Not sure either about Nissy’s coordinates but he might live in parts with lots of trees. Sounds from his description as if the lines are down right near his house. Mouses!
Looking to Grey Gatsby to do well. Read that Osborne is going to assess Toast when he gets back to Lambourn, and decide then on next races.
Free the Moose. Danny, eat well and recover. Sir and Reilly, the best to you. All who are sick, get well soon. Beast, keep training. Tasty, watch over Z and her young ones, especially Cozzy, away from home.

I went in a bird shop just today. Some beautifulbirds in there. I walked around this corner and there was this pretty little bird just walking around on the floor. I though OMG, I could have stepped on him. Don’t know if that was the norm with this bird. Too cute. Glad I wasn’t walking fast. This one big bird in there was really fussing.

July 9 Cherokee Devotional
When people are secure, they can let someone else have the credit for doing something worthwhile and not complain. Sooner or later, the truth comes out anyway. Life always balances the credit. People have thought many times they were getting something for nothing-but listen, nothing stands for nothing. There is always compensation. Call it what it is. The only thing we don’t pay for is love, real love, which the Cherokee call a da ge yu di. What we give, we receive. Life is reciprocal, it requires us to do the best we can and to leave judgment and balancing to Him Who works out all things to their perfection.
Tell your people…that since we were promised we should never be removed, we have moved five times.

Dear Kathy. As the beatles sang”All you need is love”!!Good news, Nissy is back he’s hoping peep#1 can help with his blog she’s got a mess to clean up.They were 3 and1/2 days with no power or water.Marty’s had a lot of mail I loved he felt so warm and fuzzy inside. He was doing well with his salad and nanners.Wonder what the big secret is with the pink string??
Yes, we do get humid weather over here but rarely hot!I can caught on one hand the heatwaves we’ve had in my lifetime! There was the legendary summer of 1976 very hot then and in 2003 we had a very dry spring and hot summer and last July was very warm! It’s windy today but sunny the “bobs” are doing well I’m thinking bob#2 is the female and bob#1 is a male we’ll see next week.Lovely to see Tom’s daughter visiting Joey and that he’s doing so well Saw that a police dog escaped his kennel and was killed, frightened by fireworks Very sad.Dolly looks cute in pink!Have a great day.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly, Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Glad Nissy is back. Feel bad for them having to deal with the aftermath of Arthur. 3 1/2 day without power! That’s awful! Marty is eating very healthy food. Good for him! You have to stay healthy to do a lot of internashunal bizness. Hope the pink string secret is revealed soon. It makes sense that you get humidity. Lots of water around you! I’m glad the “bobs” are doing well. Getting so big! It will be interesting to find out the genders for sure. Tom’s daughter is a very cute little girl. He’s a very proud papa, I’m sure! Hope we find out what caused Joey’s illness. I didn’t see the news about the police dog. How sad! I think pink is Dolly’s most flattering color. She’s so gorgeous! Have a wonderful day. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

This is a weird year. First we had snow. You know the cold white stuff that stays on the ground! For days. People here don’t know how to drive in snow and ice. At least people, me in particular, also don’t have the sense not to try. Now, perhaps thanks to all that snow and ice, I have a bumper crop of blueberries. When I shut my eyes at night I still see them. Bumper crop of insects, too.
Steve Haskins is a poet. Wouldn’t it be great to sit and talk with him about all the wonderful thoroughbreds he’s known and loved.
Ann NC
Love the blueberries! They are HUGE this year. Yummy.
Yes, Steve H is a gifted writer and his piece about Ms. Ruffian was special. I am so glad, Ruffian and Mr. Whitely had each other. It was just meant to be….

Dear Max.Nissy is back in the land of the living and a new post on his blog! The cats even had to eat off paper plates!Peep#1 has a lot of cleaning up to do as they had no water either and she’s very cranky without her coffee because the milk is sour in the fridge!Nissy washed his tail!A house at the end of their road, a tree fell on it in the middle of the night Mouses!
Have you heard Long Run was seriously injured on his way back from France in May.He got heat stressed after the race and thrashed about on his way home.I remember I often would tell him to “go away” when he was racing Kauto but I feel the Waley-Cohens are to put it bluntly”flogging a dead horse”A lot of critical remarks about the story on RP.He owes them NOTHING and should be retired. The Waley-Cohens are loaded and could easily afford another horse for Sam to ride!Free the Moose PUDan and all sick horses everywhere Niss4PM!!!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Glad Nissy is back. I can only deal with power outages of 30 minutes. I always walk around with a mag lite, the world’s best flash light. I have many. Black and silver are my favorites.
I read that about Long Run’s rough travel and the scathing comments about his owners. Very sad. I recall that LR’s last race was with shorty. That attitude that horses are all replaceable is not a good omen for any horse. Cecil never let Frankel travel outside of the UK. He was right. Dan only goes to Canada, which is also okay. Dan has relatives there. They love Danny, Titan of the Turf.
Free the Moose! Dan, enjoy your training. Beast, study Dan’s technique. Sir and Reilly, thinking of you. Sick horses, get well soon. Tasty, your job of protecting the Queen is still on. Watch over her and the three young ones, especially Cozzy, away from home.

New trends and new ideas interest us, but how we love the familiar. We like to keep those things that are dear to us, old songs, familiar places, the good faces. Most of us don’t want to recapture the old times. They have served their purpose and we have put too much into what counts for us now. But when something familiar comes to our ears, or a certain fragrance touches our memory, we are suddenly back there and reliving old times. It is tiresome to be forever striving toward the future. The road is unfamiliar-and every inch of it will have to be tested and tried. And then something we know by heart rises to the top and it buoys us up and we are ready to go again. Sometimes it takes the familiar to help us appreciate what we have today.
Grandfather, Great Spirit, the good road and the road of difficulties you have made me cross; and where they cross, the place is holy.

Dear Sheena,
Boo and Buddy were at the beauty parlor and are now ready to roll in some mud. One of Zoe’s maltese friends, Zack, has lost his human brother in an automobile accident. So tragic. Voted for Fubu. Hope he places in the contest. Cute video of him watching the gerbils and hamsters at Petsmart. Such a nice pic of Ray kissing his mom. Marty’s license map is really extensive. Not many more states to go. There is a nice pic of Disney World in the 70s. Marty’s great grandfather was there back then. Big “bob” might take to the air in about 2 1/2 weeks. Wasn’t Pirate Queen one of Zenny’s first pasture mates in 2011/12? If so her Quality Road colt brought $390,000 at the recent Ocala sale! I still need to get a print of that marvelous photo of all four laying down together at the top of the hill at Lanes End. Such memories.
